My Toshiba laptop doesn't seem to work the volume with the function key
but does work as Russ indicated with the volume control on the system tray.

Mike, I have a Toshiba but am not certain if this will help, but here goes
   anyway.

   1. Press insert F11 to bring up the system tray.
   2. At the bottom you may see the volume control.
   3. Enter here twice to find a volume mixer.]
   4. I just up/down arrow to change volume.

   Sure hope this helps.

Hi Ed,

Below is some information I've had saved for quite awhile & hope that the
phone numbers are still good.

This headset allows you to listen to both your computer and the telephone at
the same time.

Name, Dual Head Sets by Plantronics.
Model or part number SMH1783-11. Price $350.00 to $400.00.

Name of distributor, Phone supplements
Phone, 1-800-742-1800

I've used Plantronics for years. The newer models unplug part way down the
cord so you can switch out the end you need. I have an eighth inch plug on 1
side and a phone plug on the other. I believe the model line you are needing
is the Supra. Don't let someone talk you into a stereo set, it won't work.

Here is the contact info for a company called Headsets Direct. That's where
I got my last set from.

Keep in mind everyone doesn't understand what we need with a different cord
for each ear. I know the best person you will talk to there is Ed, in tech
support. Everyone is friendly, and I've never spoken with anyone that didn't
speak English clearly...

1-888-244-0483 Toll Free . 928-777-9100 Telephone .
www.HeadsetsDirect.com
Bob

Hello Jim, I agree with others on this list that Plantronics equipment is
the way to go. For some reason buying from vendors is cheaper than buying
from Plantronics direct. SKC Communication Products Inc.

800 882 7779

SMH1783-11 headset special, price around $240.00I think

Also get the optional AC adapter 26503-01

If they ask who told you, Art from Pittsburgh.

Good luck.

Hope this helps. Take care.

  Hello all:
I have a real challenge, and I am thinking that someone on this list may
have an idea as to a solution.
Frequently, I will have telephone conversations with a client while
reviewing a document on screen. So, I have the screen reader talking to me
through my headset. I also use the microphone on my headset to dictate to
my computer using Naturally Speaking.
At present, my office phone is inaccessible. So, I propose to use my
iPhone.
The computer in use has two Jacks: a microphone jack and an audio jack.
The iPhone, by contrast, uses a single jack.
I am wondering how I can use a single headset with a microphone that will
allow me simultaneously to listen to my iPhone and listen to my computer and
then, alternatively, talk either to the person at the other end of the line
on the telephone or talk to my computer.
Surely I am not the only person with this problem.
I have tried to explain this situation to Radio Shack Personnel. They are
completely stumped.
In fact, they have told me such a configuration is impossible. Indeed, my
searches on the Internet have proved futile. Just trying to find an adapter
to allow a combination microphone/audio jack to interface with separate
microphone and audio jacks has proved challenging.
  Thanks.

Hi
I am not sure if this is possible but there should be a way in the
software to mute the sound going over the phone line while you are using
voice command. Then you should be able to mute voice command while talking
on the phone. If you could connect the switch to a key on the phone it would
be the best.

Ed, do you have a mixer of some sort. If you did, this would solve your
problem. You can get a Berrenger for around 50 or 60 dollars. That might
be the way to go, considering you're wanting to listen to multiple audio
sources at the same time. That would also eliminate the need to plug and
unplug your devices.

Firstly, you write what I consider to be a good email: it is funny (in a sad

However, I really don't have a solution for you. It sounds like the restore

Hi,

I have a long email to write and I hope someone can help. If it helps, get
your beer, smoke or tea and activate the say all command and sit back and
chill while I type this lol.

First off, I have an hp machine running windows seven pro 64 bit, which was
a Christmas gift fror me last year.

A few weekes ago, I was going to do some work on my laptop from scratch,
which involved me setting it back to factory defaults.

While it was going through the motions of setting it back to factory
defaults, a message came up and said it was unable to boot.

I turned it off completely and when I turned it back on, it said boot
manager device missing/opporating system missing. I was like huh? Thinking
to myself, don't tell me that is what I think it means. I called hp,
explained to them what I wrote above, they told me that I needed a windows 7
pro recovery cd, so I paid for it, they sent the cd, I ran it, supposedly it
would've worked right? Well it didn't.

My jaws, window eyes, NVDA, dam near every sound coming out of my comp was
very choppy and could barely be understood. I tried navigating the best I
could, opening up programs here and there to see what else was up with the
comp after the install and by golly everything was taking 44 for evers to
load.

I ran the recovery cd again and after that everything was back to normal,
screen readers working fine, nothing was taking 44 for evers to load but.,
in the CTRL panel, it told me I had three days to enter in a product key,
which after running the recovery cd, wouldn't the key had been installed?

I waited three days, to see what would happen, so after three days, it said
I have 30 days to activate windows. Huh?

So, I called hp, gave them the shpeel, they did some trouble shooting stuff
with me and in the end, they said, since your laptop is out of worentee
status, we cannot service your laptop without a fee of anywhere to 200-300
dollars.

I told them, all I need is a key to activate windows, but sir, we do not
have any of that information on file, but you can find that information on
the bottom of your laptop, which I told them, no, the characters you are
asking me to read off to you are warn out and not one person can make out
what it is.

Hp also instructed to me to call Microsoft and ask for a key seeing as
windows seven is their product and they should be able to give you the key.
Of course, I already knew what the answer was going to be before calling
Microsoft, but what the hell, I called anyways. Low and behold, they told me
what I thought.

Sir, hp is responcible for providing you with a replacement key seeing as
windows 7 pro came preinstalled on the laptop when it was purchased.

I called hp back, told them the situation and did some more standard trouble
shooting stuff and in the end, she stated, we cannot give you a key and you
will need to purchase windows 7 pro again, wh

Forgive my sometimer's memory, as I may have asked this question previously.
I was wanting to find out if there is a software program, that works with
JAWS version 11, for creating wills, or other types of legal documents like
that. I am using Windows Vista on a 32 bit system. Any feedback will be
appreciated. Many thanks. Jerry

Carliss: There is a step by step instructional section on the JAWS User's
site. It is under the Tips and Tricks heading. I found it yesterday and am
going to try it out sometime next week. Nero is not exactly the most
simplistic program out there, but with practice, it is useable by folks like
us. Take care. Jerry

Listers,

I just recently bought a dvd drive and it came with Nero10, can I use this
program with Jaws12? If I can, is there a tutorial that I can learn how to
use it? I don't know, but I heard that Nero isn't easy to use. So it would
be better for me to have a tutorial to make using it easier.

Thanks to all.

My question is this: How do I navigate these crazy ribbons to get to the

Re: [Blind-Computing] windows 7 product key

2011-11-11 Thread Bob W
I googled "product key" registry windows/7

I got quite a few results.

Here's an "about.com" article that pretty well explains it.
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/productkeysactivation/ht/windows-7-key.htm

Bottom line, it's not as easy to get as it used to be, but it's there.

Firstly, you write what I consider to be a good email: it is funny (in a sad
sort of way) it gives all the necessary facts.

However, I really don't have a solution for you. It sounds like the restore
disk was faulty, but that's probably just wishful thinking on my part.

I'm pretty sure the window key is stored somewhere in the registry, but a)
it's probably useless by this point, and b) I don't remember where the key
is stored. Perhaps google could help.

Best wishes and heart felt sympathies,
Bob

I called hp back, told them the situation and did some more standard trouble
shooting stuff and in the end, she stated, we cannot give you a key and you
will need to purchase windows 7 pro again, which we have a promotion for
right now!

So, seeing as I have no money to purchase win pro or to send it to hp for
repair, what is a good way to get my windows 7 pro key? I ran bilark adviser
and the majic jelly bean finder and they produced the same key, I entered it
in and it gave me an error, pretty much invalid key.

When I went into the bios to verify the s/n for my comp, it said, serial
number: UID: and a bunch of zeros, so what is up with that? What does all
the zeros mean and why after running the recovery cd, twice, the key did not
get installed? Hp said, there could be something wrong with my mother board.

If someone can help me figure out how to obtain my windows 7 pro key that
would be great, besides paying for one because lol, I am broke.

Thanks for listening.

Hello there;

I think you need to go a little higher up the ladder.
Apparently, your not getting the support/understanding from the customer
support, so, go up the ladder to a higher position.

Another thing is,
Are you sure your typing in the correct key?
