This method won't be intelligent about words, but it will work.

If you want it to look snazzy, then you'll want to mess about with checking
when a word ends, and only put up to the end of the last full word.

That's as long as it's a sentence and not just a lump of characters/numbers.

I had some code to do this, but I'll have to dig it out - which may take

RE: contained in a list

2000-07-10 Thread Philip Arnold - ASP

Correct me if I'm wrong here people, but I believe that if the
list contains actual numbers (like from a numeric data field)
then this list function will work correctly, but if it's a text
 string it won't.

It's been a while since I checked on this.

ListContains looks to see if any entries in the list CONTAINS the item
you're looking for

Therefore;
ListContains("1,2,4,5,13,18,23,30","3") will product a number,
ListFind("1,2,4,5,13,18,23,30","3") won't.

CF doesn't treat numbers different from string when you're running a
non-numeric function on them.

What's the linkage to SomeOtherQuery? When you are about to display
"#myquery.seminarsfor#", how do you know what you want to display (is it by
MyKey, or something else)?

You might be able to do it like this:

cfquery name="variables.myquery"
Select * from mytable
/cfquery

cfset variables.mykeys = valuelist(variables.myquery)

cfoutput
The value of field #variables.myquery.myvar[key_value]# is
#variables.myquery.myvalue[key_value]#.
cfoutput

but this requires knowing what key_value you want where.

Hello,

The "why" for the following is an email unto itself, so if possible any
ideas on "how" would be greatly appreciate.

The cfquery name="MyQuery" is selecting from the following db table:

MyKey|MyVar| MyValue
-
0001|ClientName |Rick
0002|SeminarsFor|aerospace
0003|RAMPrice|stable

Now I need to write (without looping or cfifing or cfswitching) or (changing
the the table itself) and (caching of some sort is desired):

The name of your seminar is: #MyQuery.SeminarsFor#
The state of CA is: #SomeOtherQuery.HighTaxes#

The only way I've been able to do it so far is to rebuild the above table
into:
ClientName |SeminarsFor|RAMPrice

Rick|aeospace| stable

But this constant table manipulation isn't practical.

Is the answer in sql? structures? arrays? or ?

TIA,

Rick

Oops, I meant:

cfoutput
The value of field #variables.myquery.myvar[listfind(variables.mykeys,
key_value)]# is
#variables.myquery.myvalue[listfind(variables.mykeys, key_value)]#.
cfoutput

This would probably be faster with the list portion implemented as a
structure, but I didn't take the time to think it out. Also, the query and
list/structure could be kept as app or session vars if desired.

whatever the reason, it sure wouldn't bode well with me if I was

Re: CFCONTENT

2000-07-10 Thread dscheide

Hey,
I had the same problem. I realized a simple work-around thou. Im using IIS,
so i have the ability to specify a template as an error page( Say for 404 -
Filenot found) on a per DIR basis. So what i did was create a template with
code simlar to what you have. Then in a page i would link to the file i wanted
(output.xsl) as if it were in the current directory.

ie:
http://blah.com/index.html
it has a link to output.xls (thus looking like http://blah.com/output.xls
)

But, output.xsl doesnt exist there ... it exists some place else (ie non
accessable via the web). So i causes a 404 Error, and i told IIS to use a
speical template, so as to when the 404 happends, it will fetch the file and
CFCONTENT to the client as the content of the error page. But the client has no
idea they caused a 404 ... And the file name (when they goto save) will be
output.xls.

the only downside might be an abundence of 404s in your server logs...

David Scheiderich

 When using cfcontent as in:
 cfcontent type="application/msexcel" file="d:\templates\OUTPUT.XLS"
 deletefile="YES"
the file comes back with a .cfm extension but in XLS format. What do I need
 to do to correct this?

RE: MySql ODBC Driver

2000-07-10 Thread Dave Watts

Q1. Has anyone had experience with "manually" installing the
CF server since it doesn't detect the Apache server in this
configuration (i.e. not a service per se on a win 95 machine).
I have it mostly working by coping the cfdocs and cfide stuff
to my ../htdocs/ directory. What won't work is any file system
"Browse" function (like in the ODBC/DSN config page where you
might press the "browse" button to find the database for the
DSN). If I hit the browse button it tries indefinitely, but
dose not return (I can however press "cancel" and regain control).
I can't help but think it is related to my "manual" installation
 procedure being deficient somehow.

There isn't that much involved in setting up CF with Apache on Windows. All
you have to do is add the line for the Apache module in httpd.conf (which it
sounds like you've done) and put the CFIDE directory in the document root of
your web server. I suspect your problem is a Java applet problem, unrelated
to your install procedure. The browse functionality in CF Administrator is
provided by the CFTREE Java applet. You might try it with another browser.

Q2. Has anyone had experience with installing ODBC drivers?
I installed the MyODBC drivers and tested fine. You can see it
from the win95 control panel and such. However in the CF
administrator page it is not displayed as an option in the
drop down selection box. I looked in the registry to see
if it got set up in there and that looks fine (and tests fine
within the driver test program). Again I think it could be
related to my manual install attempt. Is there any documentation
 out there on this?

Again, I think your install is fine. I haven't worked with MyODBC on
Windows, but I suspect that CF just can't work directly with creating and
managing datasources using that driver. This isn't the end of the world -
you should be able to create MyODBC datasources in the Control Panel, and
still be able to use them. Try this, and let me know if it doesn't work.

RE: When should I use CFLOCK?

2000-07-10 Thread Dave Watts

After reading the Allaire KB article on locking, I put CFLOCK's
around all instances of any session or server variables. The one
place that seems a bit muddy is if the read is within a CFIF
statement. I put the lock around the entire CFIF but is that
required? I implied that it was from the KB article but I have
never seen that specifc guidance anywhere.

If you're doing something like this:

cfif IsDefined("Session.Foo")

then it should be locked. On the other hand, if you're just referencing a
session variable within a CFIF:

cfif Variables.Foo IS "bar"
cfset Session.Foo = "baz"
/cfif

then you could put the CFLOCK within the CFIF.

Ok, what if you are using application variables as a part of the IF
statement and session in the IF? e.g:

CFIF Application.Foo

CFSET Session.bar = 1

/CFIF

Is it ok to nest different types of Locks (session and application). And
what if Application.foo was actually session.foo? Would I need nested
session lock-ing or will the outer Lock around the if statement lock all
session variables with in?

Re: Please Help me for my interview

2000-07-10 Thread Billy Cravens

I've found that most beginner developers (and non-beginners alike!) are
very dependent upon CFStudio's wizards -- either the query builder, or
just the buttons in Studio (ie they know what to click to get a
cfinclude)

However, during a job interview, you won't have studio in front of you
-- you will need to know both CFML and SQL. Since CFStudio makes it
easy to program (and program well if you can), you can do so without
knowing the language. So I'd pick up the references and start reading
(recommendations: CFML - language reference at the back of Forta's book,
SQL - SQL for Dummies or Forta's Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes.

RE: strong authentication and CF

2000-07-10 Thread Steve Bernard

I haven't had any experience tying SecureID into CF but, I'm interested in
your decision to implement SecureID over PKI. If you don't mind sharing,
what were the major points driving this decision? I ask because I too am
interested in SecureID as well as PKI. PKI seems more cost effective, easier
to implement, and provides more security over the wire than SecureID. Of
course, SecureID has its strong points too, like the two factor
authentication. I am interested in hearing your experience.

Subject: strong authentication and CF

Greetings:

We're looking to build an application that will automate the process
whereby people "sign off" at various stages of a
work flow process. Security concerns dictate that we use some kind of
digital signature/strong authentication methodology such as certificates
(PKI), smartPass, etc. We're not ready for a PKI solution yet but are
considering one which uses the SecurID token system (from Security
Dynamics), which requires the user to input a number generated by the
token, which changes with time. The user is authenticated by a SecurID
server on one host (not a Web server) and we want to tie this to our CF
app, running on another server. I think we'll need to get CF to talk to the
other box through some API (TBD) via a CFX tag written in C++ or Java.

Has anyone had success doing this kind of thing? Suggestions for tools,
approaches would be welcome.

Thanks,
Bruce

Rick,

You may want to take a look at a custom tag called CF_QueryToStruct.
Basically it will take a query like yours and convert it to a struct that
would look like this:

I've used this tag with great success in a situation something like yours.

Find the tag at:

error "illegal character". FYI, Now() outputs a timestamp like:
   {ts '/mm/dd hh24/mi/ss'}

stranger yet... all my queries work when i run the application locally on a
workstation with an ODBC connection out to the database. however, the
application refuses to work when i run the application locally on the
database.

the workstations are Win2000, CF 4.5.1 Ent, Oracle 8.1.6.0 ODBC driver
the server is WinNT SP6a, CF 4.5.1 Ent, Oracle 8.1.6.0 ODBC driver

ideas???

OK. So what I've been trying to say is that couldn't CF

analogous to Round Robin in DNS?

And the datasources could be on different SQL Server

It depends on what exactly I was trying to do. However, what I'd probably
end up with is using the clustering in SQL Server 7 Enterprise Edition,
which allows you to create a cluster of two machines (which is enough for
most purposes).

RE: Getting the ID after insert...

2000-07-10 Thread Dave Watts

I have a question about the code below. This was done by a
colleague of mine, he is pretty handy with SQL coding. One of
his observations was the time involved in writing stored
procedures and then calling them with CFSTORPROC. I agree, that
discouraged me somewhat in the past, but I knew of no other way.
He put this transact-sql query together and it seems solid,
 works well.

My question(s): Have any of you tried this? Any problems? Can
 anyone see a potential problem?

 Thanks. -Gary McNeel

 CFQUERY name="InsertLkpRec" datasource="#Application.DSN#"
   DECLARE @LookupID char(6)
   DECLARE @MembersID char(6)
!--- Insert Member Lookup Record ---
   INSERT INTO tblMemberLkp
   (DBAName, ReferredBy )
   VALUES
   ('#Form.DBAName#', '#Form.ReferredBy#')

   SELECT @LookupID = @@IDENTITY

 ! Members Record ---
   INSERT INTO Members
   (MemberLkpID)
 VALUES
   (@LookupID)

 SELECT @MembersID = @@IDENTITY

!--- Insert Site Info record ---
   INSERT INTO tblSiteInfo
   (BusName, Website, RecStatusID, RecOriginID, MembersID,
   PartnerNumber, SourceID, ApplicationDate)
 VALUES
   ('#Form.BusName#', '#Lcase(Form.Website)#', 2, 1, @MembersID,
   '#Form.PartnerNumber#', '#Form.SourceID#', getdate())
 /CFQUERY

There isn't anything really wrong with that, from a general standpoint. ODBC
2 and later allow you to run SQL batches, and as long as your ODBC driver
supports it (and the SQL Server one certainly does), you can write batches
using T-SQL.

However, I don't really think it takes any longer to write that as a stored
procedure, which will give you better results generally. SQL Server can
perform better optimization of stored procedures than it can with ODBC
passthrough queries, usually. I've seen performance and reliability
increases using stored procedures for INSERTs, believe it or not!

Also, from a security standpoint, you'd generally want to lock down your
ODBC datasources as much as possible; stored procedures give you an easy way
to do this.

the basic version of Verity available with CF. No?

Is there a way to index META tags with CFindex?

If you're indexing static pages, and those pages contain META tags, then
you're indexing META tags. If you're dynamically generating the contents of
META tags from a database query, you can index the contents of the pertinent
database tables by building a query to retrieve all the tags, and indexing
that query. If you want to ONLY index META tags, that's probably the route
 you'd take.

Another CFHTTP challenge

Can't quite figger this one out...

I have a page that uses one CFHTTP POST to do an automatic login to another site, and
a
second CFHTTP POST on the same page to pass parameters and request a secure page.

The login always succeeds but the second CFHTTP gets kicked right back to the login
screen on the FIRST try -- if I've just restarted CF. On the second try, assuming I
haven't restarted the CFServer, the login and page request BOTH work as desired.

Seems it must have something to do with the passing of CFID/CFTOKEN via cookies, but I
could use some suggestions for further diagnosis/correction...

Thanks!

RE: When should I use CFLOCK?

2000-07-10 Thread Dave Watts

You should use CFLOCK when you are setting session
variables to insure that you maintain consistency throughout
your code. Reading however, is not a problem.

Unfortunately, under high-volume usage, this may not be the case. If you're
reading a variable, and another request is changing it, your read might not
work out too well. You'd think that unless an application uses frames this
wouldn't be a problem, but you may run into odd problems with multi-threaded
browser requests or CFLOCATION wackiness.

The gist of this is that you should lock your reads with TYPE="READONLY".

I'm going to write an extension to do hex returns as well. Thanks for the

 G
Sure sure trick us into writing your tag for you lol :)
I wrote something like that in perl in about 10 minutes :P
They are HEX addresses. So typing

 0xCF1F7A8D

 Pulss up 207.31.122.141

its pretty east use a CFLIST with a period for a delimiter
convert each list member to hex. assemble your
new address.. Viola :) Hope I did not spoil

RE: Checking zip codes against USPS

2000-07-10 Thread Mark Warrick

Yes, there are several custom tags that you could probably use to do this. Or you
could download the zip codes database from the UPSP and build something yourself.
You're looking for the "Tiger/Zip" database which is updated each month by the USPS.
If the USPS site wasn't so slow, I'd give you a link to the database.

You can read about the Tiger/Zip database here:
http://www.tpsnet.com/html/tigerzip-specs.html

You don't HAVE to buy this database from anyone although you might find it more
convenient to do so.

Re: FW: oracle timestamps

2000-07-10 Thread Stephen Garrett

Yes, I agree completely. It also has the characteristic that the time
is that of the database server, not the webserver. In this example,
that may be a good or a bad thing if the person is updating/inserting
other types of dates into their tables.

We always use SP's for updates / inserts, and always reference the time
to the database machine, so as to remain consistent. I actually prefer
this method of encapsulation, but to each his/her own...

stranger yet... all my queries work when i run the application locally on a

the workstations are Win2000, CF 4.5.1 Ent, Oracle 8.1.6.0 ODBC driver
the server is WinNT SP6a, CF 4.5.1 Ent, Oracle 8.1.6.0 ODBC driver

Just for fun and keeping on the topic of testing and such, I'm assigning a
test to the CF community. Lets say you have an IP address. (207.31.122.141)
This IP address can also be seen as a long binary number using dotless IP
addressing (3474946701). The way the internet works, either address will
work properly. Now using the search terms "dotless IP address binary
decimal", find the information on how to convert from a standard Ip to a
long binary IP. Once you have the information, write a module that takes an
IP address and converts it.

RE: cfregistry and basic security

2000-07-10 Thread Dave Watts

In CF4.51 administrator, one can disable tags such as CFREGISTRY
for security purposes. There is also a setting for "unsecured
tags directory" where these imposed tag restrictions should not
apply. Why then can I not run scheduled tasks when CFREGISTRY is
disabled. From its behavior, it would seem that the "unsecured tags
directory" is not recursive. I see mention of this issue in the
support forums, but no explanation or resolution. Does anyone know
why this must be, or if there is some workaround?

You're correct; the only unsecured directory is the root directory of the CF
Administrator. I tried adding multiple directories to the Registry, but this
didn't work so well. I also tried moving the scheduler page into the same
directory, and it's got some CFINCLUDEs with absolute paths, so that didn't
work well either (and I was too lazy to dig further in that direction).

However, if you want a workaround, there is a way to do it. It's an annoying
way, but it'll work. You'll have to enable CFREGISTRY while you're
scheduling your task, then disable it when you're done.

rudimentary.

   /cfscript

cfif NOT isDefined("Error")
   cfset Caller.DotlessIP = DotlessIP

Writing to .txt file

2000-07-10 Thread Dave Hannum

Hello,

I'm writing a query to a text file using CFX_Dumptext. I am retrieving the
file via CFCONTENT. Here is my quesion. When the file comes back to the
browser as a downloadable, it comes back named script.cfm (script being the
name of my script that is running) vs. file.txt (file being what I name the
file). Why is this?

TIA

Re: Testing Assignment

2000-07-10 Thread Jeremy Allen

IPv6 will ahve addresses like so
00:AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF

6 128Bit parts to it.. thus giving us some insane
address space that is like ~150 Ip's / square foot on
earth :) In a word yes these lil tricks should work :)
but thats why we have DNS to abstract us from
the entire IP layer of networking :)

So I'm trying to get rid of the spaces and out them back in another

I've tried

CFSET Title= #REPLACE(Title," ","_","ALL")#
CFSET Title= #REPLACE(Title,"","_","ALL")#
CFSET Title= #REPLACE(#Title#," ","_","ALL")#

What is the hex value for space?

I believe that you have to type all inside your last pair of quotes in
order
to replace ALL of the spaces.

Your code should like this:

#Replace(CompanyName, " ", "ALL")#

Force database connections to close....

Hello all,
It looks like CF doesnt like to release the
data brought down, which hogs up on the memory.

Is there a way to force the database connection to close or to
release memory as data is dumped to the client..???

some like connection.close()

This would really be a powerful feature to have...

Any ideas

  Hello Ric,

What you are looking for is an ASCII table. A quick search
should find one for you - or you could look it up in any
refernce manual you have on programming (should be one in one of
them). To be sure you have found what you are looking for
just compare the table values of 10 and 13 to verify that you
have a carraige return and a line feed.

CF_DotlessIP IP="207.31.122.141"

RE: OLEDB Date type

2000-07-10 Thread Mark Zukiwsky

Im trying to convert some existing access apps from using ODBC
to OLEDB, only theres an issue with the ODBC date format ( {ts
 '2000-07-06 14:34:00} ). How do I properly escape/format a date/time
 value in an OLEDB query?

Last year I did a ODBC to OLE conversion for an Access '97 database
and posted some caveats to the list on my experience. This portion of
the original post deals with the dates. I basically figured it out by
trial and error.

Dates with Access OLE
-

Since I couldn't pass ODBC dates, I used something like:

  cfset DateTimeStamp = DateFormat(now(), "MM/DD/")  " "
TimeFormat(now(), "h:mm:ss tt")

To pass the variable in an SQL statement:

  Values(#widget_ID_number#, '#widget_name#', '#DateTimeStamp#')

It was pointed out to me that you could also pass the date using the
Access date() and time() functions in an SQL statement, so I now use:

  Values(#widget_ID_number#, '#widget_name#', Date()  ' '  Time())

In Access you need to set the default for the field to "=now()".

So, for easy date entry in Access 97 using OLE, simply use the date()
function in your SQL statements. I think this also applies to SQL
Server OLE using the getDate() function.

To use a form date in an SQL query:

   cfif FORM.DateStart IS NOT ""
 cfset startDate = DateFormat(FORM.DateStart,'DD/MM/')
 AND (A.testCompDate = DateValue(#DE(startDate)#))
   /cfif

Using the date in SQL search queries I recall that Access was
particluar about the date format, but I can't remember the details.
The DD/MM/ format worked for me, so I'm guessing that perhaps it
was the date format MM/DD/ that didn't work.

Hope this helps.

I think that we should take all the options that you and others have

good simple web board been done?

2000-07-10 Thread Jeff Fongemie

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a good, simple web bulletin board where users can post
messages and replies that does not require users to create an account, and
is not a "drill-down" type application. Client wants a greats topics and
replies to be a great big list like the old cgi types (Mats Scripts).

Thanks,

Jeff

You can't use any kind of tag in cfscript. 4.5 finally has support
for creating objects in script instead of with CFObject, but that's
about the best you can do so far. I do hope Allaire makes the rest
of CF's functionality accessible from script soon!

(I know Dixon isn't actually in Ticonderoga any more, but I grew up
there. It's neat to see the name again...)

The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows

Any guesses?

I think that we should take all the options that you and others have
mentioned and make a single CF_IP that will have options for them all.
Make
it a 'group project' with myself or someone else as the primary caretaker
(a
 la open source software).

Hey, that was more fun than work!

Thoughts for future versions . . . reverse (dotless to dotted), octal
addresses, hexadecimal addresses, combinations of hex, octal and dotted,
masked ip addresses with multiples of 256 added to a dotted IP or
 multiples
of 4294967296 added to dotless IPs.

I didn't know any of these existed until now! I found out about it from
  http://www.nwi.net/~pchelp/obscure.htm.

Wonder if the list is down? Or just quiet because everyone is working
on

Just for fun and keeping on the topic of testing and such, I'm assigning
a
test to the CF community. Lets say you have an IP address.
 (207.31.122.141)
This IP address can also be seen as a long binary number using dotless
IP
addressing (3474946701). The way the internet works, either address will
work properly. Now using the search terms "dotless IP address binary
decimal", find the information on how to convert from a standard Ip to a
long binary IP. Once you have the information, write a module that takes
 an
  IP address and converts it.
  CF_DotlessIP IP="207.31.122.141"

I'm holding back from posting my tag result to the gallery so I can see
 what
others will try. If anyone wants the tag now without trying to do it
  themselves, contact me off list.

Oracle CLOBs and Native Drivers

2000-07-10 Thread Pete Miller

We are having some problems with ColdFusion's native drivers for
Oracle. Connecting to Oracle 8i (8.1.6), we receive an error whenever
attempting to read or write to a field of CLOB datatype. I saw an
earlier reference to upgrading to ColdFusion 4.5.1. Does this fix the
problem? Does this same problem exist using Oracle's ODBC drivers
instead?

thedate = cfif
IsDate(form.thedate)#CreateODBCDate(form.thedate)#cfelseNULL/cfif

Thanks,
Jim

We are having some problems with ColdFusion's native drivers for
Oracle. Connecting to Oracle 8i (8.1.6), we receive an error whenever
attempting to read or write to a field of CLOB datatype. I saw an
earlier reference to upgrading to ColdFusion 4.5.1. Does this fix the
problem? Does this same problem exist using Oracle's ODBC drivers
instead?

 Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a good, simple web bulletin board where users can post
messages and replies that does not require users to create an account, and
is not a "drill-down" type application. Client wants a greats topics and
replies to be a great big list like the old cgi types (Mats Scripts).

 Thanks,

 Jeff

Thanks for everyone's help, didn't know
I'd get such a response. I like playing
with ascii characters for little pointers
exclaimations and such.

What is the error message? What is the type of information going into the
field?

okay there are some fuseaction bugs that I will address later. That's what
you get for posting a "here go look at it " app.

I can give you code for a simple one if you want. It's written in fusebox.
It was one of the first things I built so its not all that cool. but it
sounds like what you are looking for. If nothing else it will give you an
idea where to start and it would be free.

I think my brother put it on the site he is starting to build for fun. you
 can check it out at

You'll need to enable one of the "long text" options in the CF datasource
settings:

port/index.cfm

Also, as a side note, I just learned that if you're using CF on Solaris with
the Oracle 8.1.6 client, you'll want to upgrade:

port/index.cfm

CFTREE and CFGRID problems with IE

2000-07-10 Thread Stephen L. McMahon

I'm very new to this list (started today), so please forgive me if this is
an old topic:

I am building some tools for a couple of clients which look very attractive
with CFTREEs and CFGRIDs. However, I'm finding that in Internet Explorer
(version 5 for sure...and I think version 4), the grids and trees
(especially the trees) are missing sometimes if I leave the page and come
back to it or if it goes out of focus for any reason. No amount of
refreshing will bring them back...I generally have to kill the application
and restart it in order to get these items to display again.

Can anyone let me know what might be causing such behavior?

Thanks in advance,

Stephen L. McMahon
