urgent (How can we bypass web server when data contains “&”)

2001-02-19 Thread ramesh deva

Hi

Here i am in loop..

Actually here we are receiving one variable
information(form.xmlpacket) from "posting system" but
when they have "&" data
(Like address field = "a&brothers")
they are converting into "&" for further
processing to xmlparsers (in our system)

This data they are posting properly to our cold fusion
server(and we have one webserver (IIS) is also there
in between their server and our coldfusion application
server.

When they are sending data to us(contains "&"), i
could n't able to see whole data in that
variable("form.xmlpacket"). After "&" data is not
displaying.

I hope (may be) web server is stopping to send after
"&" data

Any how is there any way to read the whole data with
"&" . I believe you understand well.

And i have one doubt if we post from first system to
second system, Then will it be comes thru first system
web server or directly it comes thru to second web
server to second system.

Awaiting your response or valuable suggestion

Thanks & Regards
Ramesh

I like the CF-Talk list, but once it's complete we definitely need the FAQ
on the HOF website (if Michael's nice enough to put it there)

Like quite a few of us, I'll be immediately joining the "advanced" list, but
will still be here as too many good things come from this list

Also, with Ben, Dave, Hal, Michael and many others, this is an amazing
resource for knowledge

We just need to try and stop the "How do I get the current date" type of
questions (which is why we originally started the talk of the FAQ)

The docs that come with it should help enough

It builds some standard variables which you can use - I've used it myself,
it's relatively easy

I would do but the dates are input into a form by our client. They are
under the assumption that selecting the two dates will include them I'm
trying to find a clean way to get the system to do that without having to
spend untold time explaining it to the client on the web form..

What you've got to remember is that a straight date is effectively midnight
at that date and because a DateTime field is exactly that, you have to
consider a BETWEEN to return the results you specify

If you want to get the results between 1 Jan 2001 and 19 Feb 2001, you can
either do
BETWEEN '1 Jan 2001' AND '20 Feb 2001'
or
BETWEEN '1 Jan 2001 00:00:00' AND '19 Feb 2001 23:59:59'

It should always return the whole day of the Low Date in a BETWEEN, if it's
not, you should check your data and ensure there is actually data there in
the first place

OT: Adding CF Template to File:New in Windows

2001-02-19 Thread Brad Roberts

Does anyone know how to add file types under "FILE : NEW" in Windows
Explorer (same as right click, new). I'd like to have the ability to right
click in folder view and add a CF template.

Just to make this clear, you usually use FILE : NEW to add a new folder,
shortcut, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help,

CF DevSys and Code Generator

2001-02-19 Thread rromano

Good morning,

For those of you who downloaded the Spindal Web Application Development software from
 http://www.ConquestDataSystems.com.

Thanks for the tremendous number of you who downloaded the software, and the most
valuable feedback received. I hope you have been able to put this software to good
use.

There is now an updated version available which does includes the code generator
templates for both ColdFusion and ASP, in addition to the HTML template that was
already included. Also, the help system is now fully enabled.

BTW: I am the developer of this package and would appreciate any additional comments
or input you might care to make regarding this products features and functions.

Thanks, Sincerely,

RE: Oracle Port?

2001-02-19 Thread mherbene

No, sorry. According to
http://www.isi.edu/in-notes/iana/assignments/port-numbers, the "Well-known"
ports are 0-1023, the "registered" ports are 1024-49151, and the
"dynamic/private" ports are 49152-65535, so logically it should be that last
range. But I don't know if Oracle followed the rules.

On a client NT machine currently connected to the DB you could run "netstat"
at a command prompt and see what port it's using this time - do it a few
times and you might see a pattern.

Interesting. Would you know the range of ports needed given method 1?

I opened 1500-1700 (due to references I found for 1521, 1526 and 1610) but
am still having problems (TNS: unable to connect to destination) although
it could be something else...

Re: Looping over form data?

2001-02-19 Thread Tony Schreiber

Dylan suggestion was one of two techniques I've used. You can name the
fields dynamically using the ID of the record as a prefix:

 VALUE=""...

The other thing I've done is leave the names alone and use the fact that
same-named variables will result in a comma separated list of values. So
as long as you have an ID field (usually hidden) with a list of IDs, you
can use ListFind and ListGetAt to pick all the values for that ID from all
the fields. Two major caveats however with that method. 1) You can't have
commas in the data and 2) Empty fields do not have a "placeholder" comma.

I've never been able to get past #1 because there's no way to access the
data (to replace commas) before it comes a formfield...

RE: Oracle Port?

2001-02-19 Thread bflynn

This sounds like a different problem. If your network engineer has a packet
sniffer, I'd ask him to check out stuff from both sides of the firewall.
There are three areas that could be a problem...

Client: You don't have your client configured right. Client config is
pretty easy, but there are a number of things that can easily go wrong.
Firewall: If you have ports 1500-1700 open right now, this is probably not
an issue. You might try moving this machine inside the firewall if possible
and giving it a try
Server: Oracle also has to be configured to listen for connections on the
network. If you've never been doing this before, its probably not configed
that way.

Lots of possibilities still...

Interesting. Would you know the range of ports needed given method 1?

I opened 1500-1700 (due to references I found for 1521, 1526 and 1610) but
am still having problems (TNS: unable to connect to destination) although
it could be something else...

CFile (another question while we're all on topic!)

2001-02-19 Thread Ethan Rosch

Is there a way to verify the mime type of a file before the user clicks submit on the
form?

Such that if it is an incorrect mime type, we can call an error?

I don't think you can check the form field because it creates a .tmp file as its value
and by the time you can call a server variable, it's too late!

Thanks,

Ethan

You can specify a list of accepted MIME types in the CFFILE tag. Keep in
mind that it is the browser that reports this information to the server, and
sometimes it gets it wrong. And the MacIntosh is notorious for not reporting
properly.

Re: CFile (another question while we're all on topic!)

2001-02-19 Thread Ethan Rosch

Sorry, I think I wrote my first message poorly.

My problem is that when the user uploads the wrong mime-type CFFile spits
out an error.
Right Now, I am using CFTry to catch that error. However, this only works
after the file is uploaded because it is uploaded as a .tmp file. After
that, I can query the variable file.serverfile to see what the file was, I
would like to be able to validate it before the user uploads it to save the
transfer hassle of uploading a bad file.

I hope this makes this clearer, its still early here and I haven't finished
my first cup of go-go juice yet

thanks again,

Ethan

If you want it BEFORE it goes to the server, then you'll have to do some
client side validation in JavaScript

RE: advanced list

2001-02-19 Thread Douglas . Knudsen

My apologies to the list and for starting a thread that went way too long. The
intent of my question concerning other more advanced list-servs for CF stuff was
not to slight anyone on this list. This list is quite useful, helpful, and
attended by some very knowledgeable people. I was just looking for something
with a bit less volume of questions pertaining to topics that can be answered by
reading first. Again, this is not to slight those that ask nor to discourage
anyone from posting nor is it an invitation for flaming. Again, my apologies.

Cheers!

I wouldn't doubt that. But I'm setting it up identical to the config of a
client that exists on that local network already. And that one works.

Well, I tried opening up all the way to 65535 to see what would happen -
same thing: ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination

I'm specifying the host as "green" which corresponds to an entry in my
local hosts file for an IP address. Wonder if that's a problem.

Well, there's a client on the network that works already. It's local, but
my remote pc would be coming in from the router which is on the same
network as the local pc, so I think it'd look the same...

12203 can be a lot of things, unfortunately. You might check the oracle
docs (/network.804/a58230/ch10.htm#428653) for instructions on turning on
logging on the client. The log files are not real easy to read but can
provide some clues.

Subject:Looping over form data?

I need to pull a number of records at once from a database, edit them on
one page, then send the data back to the database. Looping over the query,
I've been able to place the data correctly on the page.

However, I'm at a loss as to how to update the edited records back into the
database. I'm currently trying to post them as form data but it fails
because each record's input fields have the same name.

Is there a way to loop over form data or to dynamically rename form fields?
And/or is there a better way to edit multiple records at once than by using
a form?

Thanks for any help,
Les

RE:

I run into this a lot and use this as work around. Dump you query into an
application varible as an array, then when you update the info, update the
db then lock your array and clear it and repopulate it. Then you still get
the spead of having a cached query and can update it anytime you need to.

You're right about CFCACHE not detecting changes to your database. If it
could do that, it would have to query the database to check for those
changes, and you'd be right back where you started performance-wise.

If you want changes in your database to be reflected immediately in your
pages even if they're cached using CFCACHE, you'll need to add some logic to
the scripts which update the database - have them clear out the cache with
ACTION="FLUSH". Alternatively, you might decide that you don't need to show
updates immediately, and just figure out the best lifespans for your cached
pages.

Also, you have to specify a filesystem path, not a URL, in your CFCACHE
DIRECTORY attribute.

Re: advanced list

2001-02-19 Thread Michael Dinowitz

There's a FAQ on the HoF site for the last year or so. Problem is, its just
not used much and not much has gone into it. That's on the list for
upgrading. In addition, a list member who's name escapes me at the moment
has his own CF-Talk FAQ that he offered up as a link. Once he's ready with
it, I'll add in a link to it for the communities use.
I do have to apologize for the slowness that these projects are taking. Due
to my contract with the federal reserve, I'm totally out of touch with the
entire world from about 9-7 or so (unless I can hack it, but they don't even
like that). Once I find a permanent position or win the lottery, I should
have more list and community time. :)

ODBC sources aren't dealt with via HTTP, therefore anything that's only
available via HTTP (probably) won't be dealable with a CFQuery

If you can get to the database via sharing (on NT), then you can setup the
ODBC datasource and just query it

qForms JavaScript API v1.0 Released!!!

2001-02-19 Thread Dan G. Switzer, II

Folks,

I just wanted to announce that I've finally released the qForms API. qForms
is released under the GNU License and is designed to ease the pain of
develop client side JavaScript to interact with forms. Here's a brief
rundown on the features available:

- Common methods for setting and retrieving form field values
- Automatically prevents forms from being submitted multiple times
- Dozens of easy to use validation methods
- An extendable API
- Automatic Event Capturing
- Methods for handling complex tasks dealing with form fields-such as
transfering items between select boxes
- The ability to lock/disable form fields (Works with Netscape v3.0!!!)
- The API was written for Netscape v3.0 and higher
- And much, much more...

The best part is, it's all *free*! :) The only catch is that if you create
your own libraries or make modifications, that I'd like you to send them to
me. It's not a requirement, but I'm hoping that developers will be willing
to share their add-on libraries with the rest of the development community.

If you find coding JavaScript a hassle, I think you'll find qForms extremely
helpful. I guarantee it'll ease the creation of client-side validation.

All the information you need is available at:
http://www.pengoworks.com/qforms/

Sincerely,
Dan G. Switzer, II
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

PS - I'm sending this message out to both the JS-Jive and CFTalk lists, only
because I commonly see questions relating to JavaScript interaction with
form elements.

RE: Query Question

2001-02-19 Thread Andy Ewings

Sorry my answer wasn't very informative!!!

What you need to do is be explicit in your SQL statement to include the
server, database, and owner before the table name. So instead of:

SELECT * FROM

you use

SELECT ...

The only requirement is that the server(s) that you want to talk to are
contained within the system table sysservers on the SQL server that the sql
statement is running on

Re: Query Question

2001-02-19 Thread Jeffry Houser

As said below, this has nothing to do with a query. It has to do w/ DSN setup.
Setting up the DSN will depend
upon the type of database you are using. I've done this a lot for SQL Server,
although don't want to go through
the trials of explaining it if youu aren't using it.

RE: Query Question

2001-02-19 Thread Dylan Bromby

do you know how to set up a DSN? the only thing you'll do differently, is in
the CF admin console, use the server name of the second machine where the
database is kept.

queries are just the same. the fact that the database is on a second machine
(assuming it's networked somehow) is handled by the DSN. just use the
datasource name you give it when you write your query.

if i'm missing something that makes this more complex, let me know...

I'm doing this on Linux with McAffee. I simply use CFEXECUTE to call a shell script

Write me off-list if you need more information ONLY if you need more info about doing

browsing records from a query

2001-02-19 Thread Jon Tillman

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

hello again,
I am building an application to allow users to read reviews stored in a
database. I am trying to give them as many options as possible in regards to
how they group the reviews.
My problem comes in making an alphabetical list. I would like to make a
little table of the letters of the alphabet, and have links to pages for each
letter that will contain only the records that begin with that letter. In
addition, I would like to be able to have the links on the list active or
incative based on whether or not there are matching results from a query.
Does anyone have any pointers as to how to go about this? either SQL or CF is
fine as long as it gets the job done.

RE: Query Question

2001-02-19 Thread Andy Ewings

Rich

If you want to select records from 2 tables in 2 different databases across
2 servers all within a single SQL statement then you will have to do it via
Transact SQL (server.database.owner.table), because you will not be able to
do it via DSN's as you can only use one DSN at a time. If you are only
selecting from a single database on one SQL server within each SQL query you
have then set up multiple DSN's to connect to each database you want to use
as others have suggested.

Aside from the aforementioned CFGRID, which is probably the easiest
CF-specific way to do it (all in one go!), the alternative is likely to be
something like this:

When first looping the records to be displayed on screen, add the current
row number to the end of each form field name. This is so that when you
submit the form back again, CF will get form variables called name1,
address1, name2, address2 etc etc (or whatever). You should know how many
iterations you get back (after all, you put them on-screen in the first
place!). Once you get the form back, just loop over that number, break
off the suffix digit to get the 'proper' field name, and
check/update/insert back into the database as appropriate. Send the ID of
the database record as a hidden field to make it easy on the way back too.
You can use this method to create 'check-the-box' fields to mass-delete
records at the same time...

Querying a db with all caps

2001-02-19 Thread DSJ / PC1, Inc.

Hello All,

I am querying a database that uses only capital letters in all of the values
inside each field. When I perform a search using smaller case letters,
nothing shows up, however, when I type in ALL CAPS in my search, it works as
expected.

Now, my question is, is there a way that I can make my query work even if
someone uses all smaller case letters in the search field?

Any help would be greatly appreciated here.

Thanks,

The thing about the HOF FAQ is that it ins't a real CF FAQ, it covers some
simple things, but there's loads of things that should be covered (the
questions that are asked about 2-3 times a week in some cases)

If we have a link to that somewhere, then it should cut down on the people
who ask the regular questions... and those who do can just be pointed at the
FAQ (off-list, preferrably)

Especially if we can make it an expanding FAQ, then (hopefully) it'll cover
about 70-80% of the questions that get repeated... and it'll be easier than
searching through the archives - especially since I currently have over
40,000 CF-Talk messages in my Outlook

Re: advanced list

2001-02-19 Thread Michael Dinowitz

Difference between design and implementation. It was designed and intended
as a true FAQ where you could just hit the CFMAIL section to know something
about it. Problem was in putting info in.
I wanted to hire someone to read the posts and write FAQs for it but the
problem was cash. Didn't think the subscribers would pay for a summery
digest and it never got moving. If we could get people to write up summaries
and post them, then we could have a true FAQ rather than the sparsely
populated one we have now.

RE: Querying a db with all caps

2001-02-19 Thread Simon Horwith

Hmmm...that's strange. If the table is definitely always storing the data
in all caps, the UPPER() function will execute faster anyway. However, the
LIKE keyword is supposed to be the ANSI 92 Standard way to do non-case
sensitive searches. I haven't ever tested it on SQL 2000.

SQL Server outputs aggrigate functions on the field type of the field, thus
SUM, AVG etc. will remain an INT if they are an INT

If you want to have a FLOAT or NUMERIC as the return, then try;
SELECT ContestantID, SUM(CONVERT(FLOAT,AdjPoints)) as TOTALPTS

If the field isn't a numeric field type (i.e. DateTime or SmallDateTime)
then this (probably) won't give a decent answer anyway

Is there anyway to change this? The file is supposed to not have
underscores in it, so it won't match what's in the DB.

CFFile puts underscores in the name where spaces are.

I believe CFFile bases it's overwrite decision off the #file.serverfile#
variable.

If Aidan's building his FAQ, maybe we could amalgamate them into the
Ultimate CF FAQ (I just had this odd image if UltraMan with a CF on his
chest - maybe I saw "Dude Where's My Car" too recently...)

In about 6 weeks I'll have a *little* more time, so I can go through my
archives and organise them properly and add to the FAQ with useful but
little-asked stuff

Re: SUM rounding

2001-02-19 Thread Jay Patton

this is what i tried,

SELECT ContestantID, SUM (AdjPoints) as TOTALPTS, SUM (Points) as PTS,
SUM(Convert(Float,TimeTaken)) as TOTALTIME, RodeoID, Place
FROM ResultsManager
WHERE EventID = #url.EventID# AND RodeoID = #url.RodeoID#
GROUP BY ContestantID, RodeoID, Place
ORDER BY Place

the 'timetaken' field is a Number field (access for now) with a format of
"Fixed" and Decimal Places as '2'

#NumberFormat(EventResults.TOTALTIME,"__.__")#

and i get this error:

Error Diagnostic Information
ODBC Error Code = 37000 (Syntax error or access violation)

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Undefined function 'Convert' in
expression.

The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of
(CFQUERY), occupying document position (1:1) to (3:23).

any ideas?

4.51 going wacko on me-HELP!!!

2001-02-19 Thread Bud

Hi all. I am working with my shopping cart, which runs beautiful on
4.01. I'm supposed to upgrade a customer running on 4.51 on
virtualscape to my latest version. I just so happened to install 4.51
on my Win 98 development box the other day to make sure all my apps
are up to snuff before upgrading my real server to 4.51. I thought
everything was going well, until now!

Anyway, about every 3rd or 4th time I enter something into the cart,
when overwriting what's in there, I get all kinds of wacky errors.
The pcode errors, parser errors, all kinds of crap. And this:

page=CFTempOnlyForSetVariableNeverUseThisNameInYourCFMLCode1223335654321

WHAT THE ^%$&^^ IS THAT?!?!

Once that one hits, no cfm pages can be accessed until cfserver is restarted.

I don't see how it can be the code, because it's nothing fancy where
it seems to be choking.
It's a simple:

newbasket = querynew
queryaddrow
querysetcell (a few cells)

Then I turn it to wddx and save it in the client database.

Then I output to variables.basket right afterwards to show the cart contents.

I thought since I only had 64 MB RAM, that was probably the problem,
so I ran out and got another 128 MB. No dice. So I installed WebSite
Pro and turned off PWS. Still no dice.

Is this me? Is there a problem with WDDX and 4.51 SP2? Anyone see
anything I'm doing wrong that will help me? I'm supposed to have this
2 or 3 hour job done and uploaded by 6 PM and I've been at it since 4
AM.

RE: 4.51 going wacko on me-HELP!!!

2001-02-19 Thread Simon Horwith

two things:
make sure you're using cflocks, and UPGRADE TO 4.5.1 SP2. 4.5.1 had many
bugs that were fixed in service pack 2.

Hi all. I am working with my shopping cart, which runs beautiful on

everything was going well, until now!

Anyway, about every 3rd or 4th time I enter something into the cart,
when overwriting what's in there, I get all kinds of wacky errors.
The pcode errors, parser errors, all kinds of crap. And this:

page=CFTempOnlyForSetVariableNeverUseThisNameInYourCFMLCode122333565

WHAT THE ^%$&^^ IS THAT?!?!

Once that one hits, no cfm pages can be accessed until cfserver is
restarted.

I don't see how it can be the code, because it's nothing fancy where
it seems to be choking.
It's a simple:

newbasket = querynew
queryaddrow
querysetcell (a few cells)

Then I turn it to wddx and save it in the client database.

Then I output to variables.basket right afterwards to show the cart
contents.

CONVERT is a SQL Server command

Not sure about Access as it's been about 2-3 years since I've had to write
any SQL in it...

The simple tests I've just done in Access were on Double numeric fields -
this returns decimals quite happily

More testing required I think

This is CF saying that your're trying to set a variable to another variable
name of "" (as in nothing)

Something is happening in your WDDX that's passing no field name or your
Query field name is empty

That's an internal variable name, used temporarily by CF when you use a
CFPARAM tag, or a function which creates a new variable.

It could be some problem with CF 4.5.x on Windows 98. I suspect it's caused
by Win98's crappy memory management. If you want to do this sort of stuff
locally, I'd strongly recommend using a decent OS. I know that's not what
you want to hear right now, but my guess is that you wouldn't have this
problem on NT or 2K.

RE: CFFILE & spaces

2001-02-19 Thread Chad Gray

When you write to the DB use #file.serverfile# for the name of the file
with the underscores, or use #file.clientfile# for the name of the file
with spaces.

(im assuming you are writing/reading to the DB after the file is uploaded)

Whenever I start getting weird errors after an upgrade the first thing I
look at is the MDAC version. Version 2.5 (not 2.5sp1) works 100% on all of
our servers.

Here is the link to the MDAC page.

Once upon a time I started to make a dynaimc wddx-base cf portal. You could
probably implement something similiar here

That is, anyone who has answered a frequently-asked-question can place them
in an xml or wddx file on their own site. Along with a wddx file acting as a
simple directory of these single faqs.

You write code on your site that allows anyone to add the url to their
directory wddx to your database. Your code then routinely grabs their
directory and promptly updates your faq. Within further interaction from
you... beyond initial approving any directory urls. In other words a
distributed faq.

Somewhere on my freeware page there is some old initial code for something
similiar.

A thought.

Stored Procedures - Am I going insane?

2001-02-19 Thread Philip Arnold - ASP

Just to prove to myself that I'm not going insane...

Is it possible in a SQL Server Stored Procedure to have dynamic table names?

I'm currently trying to;
Create Procedure update_pages (@tablename varchar(255), @rowlist
varchar(255))
as
begin
update [@tablename] inner join Central_Pages on
[@tablename].ID=Central_Pages.ID
set [@tablename].Title=Central_Pages.Title,
[@tablename].Body=Central_Pages.Body
where [@tablename].ID in (@rowlist)
end
GO

When I check the syntax I get "Error 156: Incorrect syntax near the keyword
'inner'."

Please tell me I'm not going completely mad and that it'll let me do this

The problem is that I've got to update upto 200 tables and only specific
pages, I don't specifically want to do this via CF (for obvious reasons)

While I'm on the SP subject - something I've never had to do inside one is
loop over a select and do something on the result... is this possible?

You can do what you want, but not as simply as this.

Typically, when you're building SQL on the fly, you'll have to build a
string, then use EXECUTE (in SQL 6.5) or sp_executesql (in SQL 7 or 2000) to
execute the string.
