urgent (How can we bypass web server when data contains &)
Hi Here i am in loop.. Actually here we are receiving one variable information(form.xmlpacket) from "posting system" but when they have "&" data (Like address field = "a&brothers") they are converting into "&" for further processing to xmlparsers (in our system) This data they are posting properly to our cold fusion server(and we have one webserver (IIS) is also there in between their server and our coldfusion application server. When they are sending data to us(contains "&"), i could n't able to see whole data in that variable("form.xmlpacket"). After "&" data is not displaying. I hope (may be) web server is stopping to send after "&" data Any how is there any way to read the whole data with "&" . I believe you understand well. And i have one doubt if we post from first system to second system, Then will it be comes thru first system web server or directly it comes thru to second web server to second system. Good morning, For those of you who downloaded the Spindal Web Application Development software from http://www.ConquestDataSystems.com. Thanks for the tremendous number of you who downloaded the software, and the most valuable feedback received. I hope you have been able to put this software to good use. There is now an updated version available which does includes the code generator templates for both ColdFusion and ASP, in addition to the HTML template that was already included. Also, the help system is now fully enabled. BTW: I am the developer of this package and would appreciate any additional comments or input you might care to make regarding this products features and functions. RE: Oracle Port?
No, sorry. According to http://www.isi.edu/in-notes/iana/assignments/port-numbers, the "Well-known" ports are 0-1023, the "registered" ports are 1024-49151, and the "dynamic/private" ports are 49152-65535, so logically it should be that last range. But I don't know if Oracle followed the rules. On a client NT machine currently connected to the DB you could run "netstat" at a command prompt and see what port it's using this time - do it a few times and you might see a pattern. -Original Message- From: Tony Schreiber [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, February 16, 2001 5:35 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: Oracle Port? Re: Looping over form data?
Dylan suggestion was one of two techniques I've used. You can name the fields dynamically using the ID of the record as a prefix: VALUE=""... The other thing I've done is leave the names alone and use the fact that same-named variables will result in a comma separated list of values. So as long as you have an ID field (usually hidden) with a list of IDs, you can use ListFind and ListGetAt to pick all the values for that ID from all the fields. Two major caveats however with that method. 1) You can't have commas in the data and 2) Empty fields do not have a "placeholder" comma. I've never been able to get past #1 because there's no way to access the data (to replace commas) before it comes a formfield... > I need to pull a number of records at once from a database, edit them on > one page, then send the data back to the database. RE: Oracle Port?
This sounds like a different problem. If your network engineer has a packet sniffer, I'd ask him to check out stuff from both sides of the firewall. There are three areas that could be a problem... Client: You don't have your client configured right. Client config is pretty easy, but there are a number of things that can easily go wrong. Firewall: If you have ports 1500-1700 open right now, this is probably not an issue. You might try moving this machine inside the firewall if possible and giving it a try Server: Oracle also has to be configured to listen for connections on the network. If you've never been doing this before, its probably not configed that way. Lots of possibilities still... CFile (another question while we're all on topic!)
Is there a way to verify the mime type of a file before the user clicks submit on the form? Such that if it is an incorrect mime type, we can call an error? I don't think you can check the form field because it creates a .tmp file as its value and by the time you can call a server variable, it's too late! You can specify a list of accepted MIME types in the CFFILE tag. Keep in mind that it is the browser that reports this information to the server, and sometimes it gets it wrong. Re: CFile (another question while we're all on topic!)
Sorry, I think I wrote my first message poorly. My problem is that when the user uploads the wrong mime-type CFFile spits out an error. Right Now, I am using CFTry to catch that error. However, this only works after the file is uploaded because it is uploaded as a .tmp file. After that, I can query the variable file.serverfile to see what the file was, I would like to be able to validate it before the user uploads it to save the transfer hassle of uploading a bad file. I hope this makes this clearer, its still early here and I haven't finished my first cup of go-go juice yet thanks again, Ethan - Original Message - From: "David E. My apologies to the list and for starting a thread that went way too long. The intent of my question concerning other more advanced list-servs for CF stuff was not to slight anyone on this list. This list is quite useful, helpful, and attended by some very knowledgeable people. I was just looking for something with a bit less volume of questions pertaining to topics that can be answered by reading first. Again, this is not to slight those that ask nor to discourage anyone from posting nor is it an invitation for flaming. Again, my apologies. RE:
I run into this a lot and use this as work around. Dump you query into an application varible as an array, then when you update the info, update the db then lock your array and clear it and repopulate it. Then you still get the spead of having a cached query and can update it anytime you need to. If it could do that, it would have to query the database to check for those changes, and you'd be right back where you started performance-wise. If you want changes in your database to be reflected immediately in your pages even if they're cached using CFCACHE, you'll need to add some logic to the scripts which update the database - have them clear out the cache with ACTION="FLUSH". Alternatively, you might decide that you don't need to show updates immediately, and just figure out the best lifespans for your cached pages. Re: advanced list
There's a FAQ on the HoF site for the last year or so. Problem is, its just not used much and not much has gone into it. That's on the list for upgrading. In addition, a list member who's name escapes me at the moment has his own CF-Talk FAQ that he offered up as a link. Once he's ready with it, I'll add in a link to it for the communities use. I do have to apologize for the slowness that these projects are taking. Due to my contract with the federal reserve, I'm totally out of touch with the entire world from about 9-7 or so (unless I can hack it, but they don't even like that). Once I find a permanent position or win the lottery, I should have more list and community time. :) > > > I have to agree. I like the list the way it is. > > > > > > We all have delete keys. qForms JavaScript API v1.0 Released!!!
Folks, I just wanted to announce that I've finally released the qForms API. qForms is released under the GNU License and is designed to ease the pain of develop client side JavaScript to interact with forms. Here's a brief rundown on the features available: - Common methods for setting and retrieving form field values - Automatically prevents forms from being submitted multiple times - Dozens of easy to use validation methods - An extendable API - Automatic Event Capturing - Methods for handling complex tasks dealing with form fields-such as transfering items between select boxes - The ability to lock/disable form fields (Works with Netscape v3.0!!!) - The API was written for Netscape v3.0 and higher - And much, much more... The best part is, it's all *free*! :) The only catch is that if you create your own libraries or make modifications, that I'd like you to send them to me. It's not a requirement, but I'm hoping that developers will be willing to share their add-on libraries with the rest of the development community. If you find coding JavaScript a hassle, I think you'll find qForms extremely helpful. I guarantee it'll ease the creation of client-side validation. All the information you need is available at: http://www.pengoworks.com/qforms/ Sincerely, Dan G. Switzer, II [EMAIL PROTECTED] PS - I'm sending this message out to both the JS-Jive and CFTalk lists, only because I commonly see questions relating to JavaScript interaction with form elements. ~~ Structure your ColdFusion code with Fusebox. Sorry my answer wasn't very informative!!! What you need to do is be explicit in your SQL statement to include the server, database, and owner before the table name. Re: Query Question
As said below, this has nothing to do with a query. It has to do w/ DSN setup. Setting up the DSN will depend upon the type of database you are using. I've done this a lot for SQL Server, although don't want to go through the trials of explaining it if youu aren't using it. ibtoad wrote: > Can you write me a sample query? > Rich > > -Original Message- > From: Dylan Bromby [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Monday, February 19, 2001 11:32 AM > To: CF-Talk > Subject: RE: Query Question > > sure. you can make a DSN on machine 1 for a database on machine 2. > > -Original Message- > From: ibtoad [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Monday, February 19, 2001 8:31 AM > To: CF-Talk > Subject: Query Question > > Is it possible to query a database on a different server? do you know how to set up a DSN? the only thing you'll do differently, is in the CF admin console, use the server name of the second machine where the database is kept. queries are just the same. the fact that the database is on a second machine (assuming it's networked somehow) is handled by the DSN. just use the datasource name you give it when you write your query. if i'm missing something that makes this more complex, let me know... -Original Message- From: ibtoad [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, February 19, 2001 8:49 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: Query Question Can you write me a sample query? browsing records from a query
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 hello again, I am building an application to allow users to read reviews stored in a database. I am trying to give them as many options as possible in regards to how they group the reviews. My problem comes in making an alphabetical list. In addition, I would like to be able to have the links on the list active or incative based on whether or not there are matching results from a query. RE: Query Question
Rich If you want to select records from 2 tables in 2 different databases across 2 servers all within a single SQL statement then you will have to do it via Transact SQL (server.database.owner.table), because you will not be able to do it via DSN's as you can only use one DSN at a time. If you are only selecting from a single database on one SQL server within each SQL query you have then set up multiple DSN's to connect to each database you want to use as others have suggested. -- Andrew Ewings Project Manager Thoughtbubble Ltd http://www.thoughtbubble.net -- United Kingdom http://www.thoughtbubble.co.uk/ Tel: +44 (0) 20 7387 8890 -- New Zealand http://www.thoughtbubble.co.nz/ Tel: +64 (0) 9 488 9131 -- The information in this email and in any attachments is confidential and intended solely for the attention and use of the named addressee(s). Aside from the aforementioned CFGRID, which is probably the easiest CF-specific way to do it (all in one go!), the alternative is likely to be something like this: When first looping the records to be displayed on screen, add the current row number to the end of each form field name. This is so that when you submit the form back again, CF will get form variables called name1, address1, name2, address2 etc etc (or whatever). You should know how many iterations you get back (after all, you put them on-screen in the first place!). Once you get the form back, just loop over that number, break off the suffix digit to get the 'proper' field name, and check/update/insert back into the database as appropriate. Send the ID of the database record as a hidden field to make it easy on the way back too. You can use this method to create 'check-the-box' fields to mass-delete records at the same time... Querying a db with all caps
Hello All, I am querying a database that uses only capital letters in all of the values inside each field. When I perform a search using smaller case letters, nothing shows up, however, when I type in ALL CAPS in my search, it works as expected. Now, my question is, is there a way that I can make my query work even if someone uses all smaller case letters in the search field? Any help would be greatly appreciated here. When I perform a search using smaller case letters, nothing shows up, however, when I type in ALL CAPS in my search, it works as expected. Now, my question is, is there a way that I can make my query work even if someone uses all smaller case letters in the search field? Any help would be greatly appreciated here. Re: advanced list
Difference between design and implementation. It was designed and intended as a true FAQ where you could just hit the CFMAIL section to know something about it. Problem was in putting info in. I wanted to hire someone to read the posts and write FAQs for it but the problem was cash. Didn't think the subscribers would pay for a summery digest and it never got moving. If we could get people to write up summaries and post them, then we could have a true FAQ rather than the sparsely populated one we have now. > > The thing about the HOF FAQ is that it ins't a real CF FAQ, it covers some > simple things, but there's loads of things that should be covered (the > questions that are asked about 2-3 times a week in some cases) > > If we have a link to that somewhere, then it should cut down on the people > who ask the regular questions... and those who do can just be pointed at the > FAQ (off-list, preferrably) > > Especially if we can make it an expanding FAQ, then (hopefully) it'll cover > about 70-80% of the questions that get repeated... and it'll be easier than > searching through the archives - especially since I currently have over > 40,000 CF-Talk messages in my Outlook > > Philip Arnold > Director > Certified ColdFusion Developer > ASP Multimedia Limited > T: +44 (0)20 8680 1133 > > "Websites for the real world" > > ** > This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and > intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they > are addressed. Hmmm...that's strange. If the table is definitely always storing the data in all caps, the UPPER() function will execute faster anyway. 4.51 going wacko on me-HELP!!!
Hi all. I am working with my shopping cart, which runs beautiful on 4.01. I'm supposed to upgrade a customer running on 4.51 on virtualscape to my latest version. I just so happened to install 4.51 on my Win 98 development box the other day to make sure all my apps are up to snuff before upgrading my real server to 4.51. I thought everything was going well, until now! Anyway, about every 3rd or 4th time I enter something into the cart, when overwriting what's in there, I get all kinds of wacky errors. The pcode errors, parser errors, all kinds of crap. And this: page=CFTempOnlyForSetVariableNeverUseThisNameInYourCFMLCode1223335654321 WHAT THE ^%$&^^ IS THAT?!?! Once that one hits, no cfm pages can be accessed until cfserver is restarted. I don't see how it can be the code, because it's nothing fancy where it seems to be choking. It's a simple: newbasket = querynew queryaddrow querysetcell (a few cells) Then I turn it to wddx and save it in the client database. Then I output to variables.basket right afterwards to show the cart contents. I thought since I only had 64 MB RAM, that was probably the problem, so I ran out and got another 128 MB. No dice. So I installed WebSite Pro and turned off PWS. Still no dice. Is this me? Is there a problem with WDDX and 4.51 SP2? Anyone see anything I'm doing wrong that will help me? I'm supposed to have this 2 or 3 hour job done and uploaded by 6 PM and I've been at it since 4 AM. -- Bud Schneehagen - Tropical Web Creations _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ ColdFusion Solutions / eCommerce Development [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.twcreations.com/ 954.721.3452 ~~ Structure your ColdFusion code with Fusebox. two things: make sure you're using cflocks, and UPGRADE TO 4.5.1 SP2. 4.5.1 had many bugs that were fixed in service pack 2. ~Simon > Simon Horwith > Allaire Certified Instructor > Certified ColdFusion Developer > Fig Leaf Software > 1400 16th St NW, # 220 > Washington DC 20036 > 202.797.6570 (direct line) > www.figleaf.com > -Original Message- From: Bud [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, February 19, 2001 3:40 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: 4.51 going wacko on me-HELP!!! I suspect it's caused by Win98's crappy memory management. If you want to do this sort of stuff locally, I'd strongly recommend using a decent OS. I know that's not what you want to hear right now, but my guess is that you wouldn't have this problem on NT or 2K. When you write to the DB use #file.serverfile# for the name of the file with the underscores, or use #file.clientfile# for the name of the file with spaces. Whenever I start getting weird errors after an upgrade the first thing I look at is the MDAC version. Version 2.5 (not 2.5sp1) works 100% on all of our servers. Here is the link to the MDAC page. http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm jon - Original Message - From: "Bud" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "CF-Talk" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, February 19, 2001 3:39 PM Subject: 4.51 going wacko on me-HELP!!! > Hi all. Once upon a time I started to make a dynaimc wddx-base cf portal. You could probably implement something similiar here That is, anyone who has answered a frequently-asked-question can place them in an xml or wddx file on their own site. Along with a wddx file acting as a simple directory of these single faqs. You write code on your site that allows anyone to add the url to their directory wddx to your database. Your code then routinely grabs their directory and promptly updates your faq. Within further interaction from you... beyond initial approving any directory urls. In other words a distributed faq. Somewhere on my freeware page there is some old initial code for something similiar. A thought. --min ~~ Structure your ColdFusion code with Fusebox. Stored Procedures - Am I going insane?
Just to prove to myself that I'm not going insane... Is it possible in a SQL Server Stored Procedure to have dynamic table names? I'm currently trying to; Create Procedure update_pages (@tablename varchar(255), @rowlist varchar(255)) as begin update [@tablename] inner join Central_Pages on [@tablename].ID=Central_Pages.ID set [@tablename].Title=Central_Pages.Title, [@tablename].Body=Central_Pages.Body where [@tablename].ID in (@rowlist) end GO When I check the syntax I get "Error 156: Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'inner'." Please tell me I'm not going completely mad and that it'll let me do this The problem is that I've got to update upto 200 tables and only specific pages, I don't specifically want to do this via CF (for obvious reasons) While I'm on the SP subject - something I've never had to do inside one is loop over a select and do something on the result... is this possible? Typically, when you're building SQL on the fly, you'll have to build a string, then use EXECUTE (in SQL 6.5) or sp_executesql (in SQL 7 or 2000) to execute the string.
