Looking for flashmx / cf 5.0 tutorial example
Not much of a flash developer at all, so if this seems trivial please forgive me. I've tried flashcfm.com, but I am not figuring it our from the examples there. If anyone has another tutorial source or suggestion, I'm up for it. My other option is to dynamically write the link names over a .gif and use an image map, so if you have suggestions as what I could use to do that I'm open to that. The environment that I am working with is CF5 / flashMX. To oversimplify what I want to do is pass in a series of link titles and urls to flash. Ideally this would be from a database, but it could be XML or querystring. Basically I want to have a certain number of clickable regions, lets say four. I'd like to pass in the following data: Link1, URL1 Link2, URL2 Link3, URL3 Link4, URL4 And the display would be something like this, again over simplified. The final display is not going to be a table. +--+---+ | | | | Link 1 |Link 2 | | | | +--+---+ | Link 3 |Link 4 | | | | +--+---+ TIA, John ~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?forumid=4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?method=subscribeforumid=4 FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq This list and all House of Fusion resources hosted by CFHosting.com. Errors: can not locate info on
I'm starting to think that our CF 5 installation is corrupted though the box has been running smoothly for over a year and a half and the areas that seem to be affected are areas where the code has not been changed in months. Over this week, we've encountered another two errors that I can not locate information on that made all of our applications unavailable. The first (in the application log): Synchronization error. Please paste the text of this error into a mail message to the system administrator. The service timed-out waiting for the operating system's attempt to guarantee one thread mutually exclusive access to generate a unique Cold Fusion client ID. The second (in the server log): The mutex timed-out in GenerateUniqueClient(). When these errors were encountered, new visitors to the site could not view it because the client variables were not available to them. On this particular server, we are also having a problem with verity search collections. One minute we get collection failed to open errors, the next minute the collection is available. The collections are not using the K2 server as I do not want to introduce another process into the mix until I've resolved the existing issues. It also seems that right before the server has trouble, a series of searches are conducted with the collection unavailable. Although this may be completely unrelated. I am in the process of putting a more detailed analysis of the problem together so that I can call tech support, but if anyone has any info on the above to errors, I would greatly appreciate it. SOT: SQL error returned to coldfusion
I think I must be the king of strange errors and events, but I do have another one to ask about. Today, all of our applications on one server which all have been performing for over a year with client variables in a SQL database started showing up with the following error. An error occurred while evaluating the expression: request.urltoken=client.urltoken Error near line 12, column 7. Error resolving parameter CLIENT.URLTOKEN The client variable URLTOKEN does not exist. The cause of this error is very likely one of the following things:The name of the client variable has been misspelled. The client variable has not yet been created or has timed out. The code for that has not been changed in over six months and this is affecting client variables across all sites, so that leads me to believe that there is an ODBC problem that is not creating the client variable. A little further into the application log, I come across the following error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Cannot generate SSPI context It seems that the SSPI error only occurs on templates with a cflocation in it. Otherwise, the first error was occurring. Of course, rebooting the server quick fixed the problem, but I am trying to find more information about the SSPI error. As far as I can determine it has to do with authentication to the SQL server, but I'm not sure. The only other event that occurred prior to these bout of errors was a couple of searches that failed open the verity collections. We are definitely having a problem with the verity collections getting corrupted. I'm trying to determine if one issue lead to the next or if there is a bigger issue with connectivity to the SQL server (which has been fine and unchanged for over a year). Config: W2K, IIS, CF 5 Pro - W2K, SQL 7.0 Anyone else experience a similar issue? I wouldn't set up a separate instance for title...use a text field. For a teaser and a text field, then you'd need a separate instance unless you just wanted a short 2-line teaser with no htmlthen use a textarea. Registry Error
Good Morning, Over the past two days our server has been encountering the following error. Error Diagnostic Information A problem was encountered trying to access the system registry. Error number 6 occurred. Our client variables are being stored in a database, so I am not sure what is causing the problem with the registry. Although I did find something interesting in the executive log. When I restarted the CF service, it purged client variables. Most of the entries look like: Purged client data from Data Source 'jifiowj'; last visit older than '{ts '2002-10-10 22:07:41'}'. However, there are a few in there that appear as: Purged client ID '279692-29774756'; Last visited '{ts '2002-07-22 17:09:15'}'. Is it possible that somewhere there are client variables still getting written to the registry even though it is specified to use the datasource? Are there other causes for Error number 6 that I can look into? I've tried the archives because I know this was discussed sometime, but I can't find it. Our server is running w2k, iis 5, cf 5.0 professional, 1 GB RAM, 1 GHZ processor and that databases are on a separate SQL server. Any ideas would be appreciated. More Win 232 error troubles
If anyone can give me any insight into trouble shooting this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. I've already searched the archives, macromedia and wherever else I could to figure this one out, so I've figure out what win 232 is, I just cant seem to find what is causing it. We have three applications (public web site www.hubinternational.com, intranet, content management system) running on a win2k server, IIS 5.0, CF 5.0 with 1GB RAM and 1GHZ processor. This is running along with a dual processor win2k SQL7 server with 1 GB RAM. In the past three weeks, the applications have begun to have performance issues. The execution times for the pages are always about the same and minimal. However, the sites are getting intermittingly hung up. A sample of 5 minutes or so will routinely get you hung up. Then, at other times, it is smooth sailing. I can't pin it down to any one thing. There are no session/application/server variables being utilized. Client variables are stored in the SQL server. I have been fighting with this on and off over the past three weeks and can not seem to resolve the issue. In the coldfusion server log, there are an increasing amount of Win 232 and Win 109 errors. I have searched and read much of what I could find on the various lists about these errors as well as the Macromedia tech notes. Unfortunately, I can not seem to find the cause or at least remedy it. I have checked the application log and have not found anything unusual there that correlates with the server log threads. CF is set up limit simultaneous requests to 5. Timeout after 75 seconds Restart at 3 unresponsive requests These applications were running smoothly until recently and there have been no major code revisions. If anyone has experienced the same issue and would be willing to share there resolution or anything else that might be helpful (or even not helpful), I would greatly appreciate hearing it. NT 232 - Missing graphics and not enough excedrin
Good morning, (hopefully for all of you anyway) We have a production server Win2K SP2, IIS CF5.0.0.0 Professional (and all security patches) which connects to a Win2K SQL 7.0 database server behind our firewall. Both servers are Compaq Proliant's with 1GHZ and 1GB RAM. These servers have been running in production since July with no problematic errors. We have seen occassional NT 232 errors. I have searched the forums and archives for the mailing list and understand the NT 232 error to be related to named pipes. We utilize TCP/IP ODBC connections to the SQL server box. At some point yesterday, the web server experienced a problem and locked up. It would return 500 Internal Server errors to the web browser. The logs only show: Error number 232 occurred attempting to close connection to web server. There is nothing unusual in the logs as far as long-running templates. This morning the sites can be browsed, but graphics from the pages are intermittenly disappearing. This may be only one or two of the graphics not all of them. And, the graphics that disappear are random in order. In some cases, the pages load just fine which causes this to be very perplexing. There have been no code changes to the templates that are on the production server, so this is a case of new errors for pages that previously worked fine. Client storage is stored in the SQL database and not the registry. Our configuration is: 1. Limit simultaneous requests to 5 2. Timeout requests after 75 seconds 3. Restart after 3 unresponsive threads 4. Restart when requests terminate abnormally 5. Drive space on the webserver is 30+ GB free So, I guess my questions are as follows: 1. Has anyone solved their own NT 232 problems and might have some insight into what you did to resolve the issue? 2. Is there any reason that the NT 232 error would cause graphics not to display? ~~ Get the mailserver that powers this list at http://www.coolfusion.com FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-talk@houseoffusion.com/ Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists

If you can get your users to zip the folder into a file, as others have mentioned, you can then upload that file, but HTML forms by themselves don't provide a way to upload an entire folder. I wouldn't be surprised if there are ActiveX controls to allow this, but of course they'd only work on IE. RE: Mailing List Manager
I would also like to add that Howie does not exaggerate the abilities of his product. We utilize another mail server package that we have been happy with for our customers email. Our problem began when locked down our mail server to prevent relays for unauthorized users. We moved to smtp authentication which caused us problems with our CF templates that were sending mail because we could not authenticate. We tried using allow relay for IP with our mail server and still had problems. To make a long story short, we wasted several hours and lots of frustration on trying to get CF to work with our current mail server once we locked down our mailserver. We went to coolfusion and downloaded the IMS-SE product and had the demo up and running within minutes. Within another few minutes, our CF servers were kicking mail out like champs. To make a long story short, a few minutes, $250 and IMS-SE made up for several days worth of trouble that should have been avoided. IMS is a great product and very effective IMHO. As for .NET well you could use SOAP,and BizTalk (funny side note we wrote the first BizTalk server in June 4, 1999 with ColdFusion, WDDX, and XSLT to translate the WDDX to XDR/BizTalk) but you have to use a older version of SOAP not 1.2 since the .NET framework is lagging a bit and their are some scheme interpretation issues which is a little funny since MS is one of the motivateing forces behind SOAP. Since SOAP is XML and since XML is in general easy to work with and is platform independant XML makes the most sensible approach to a .Net integration all though you should be able to easily call and wrap the various COM interfaces to it from CF. Or you could use C# and call it. Frankly I have not paid much attention to .NET in that most of our client base will not touch a product until its been in production for a year or so and they generally use some flavour of UNIX so I am sure there is some one on this list who would be a better source for you. CF 5.0 and Java 2
I have a corporate client who has recently upgraded their servers to CF 5.0. Of course, the administration areas of their intranet that utilize cftree, etc... no longer work because the browsers require Java2. They are utilizing IE, but IE is not automatically updating the browser. I have been asked by the IT manager for step by step instructions for upgrading to Java2. RE: New CF5 Partner Hosting License
Raymond, I was just going on what was posted in the earlier threads about the end of Spectra. That's why I added the with or without the facts comment. During that thread, there was much speculation about what would possibly be added to CF 5.0 (misinterpreted as future versions of CF), and I am not certain that was ever resolved. You have resolved this issue. My point was that the thread contiued before any real information was given (just as the hosting license thread). In the seven years that I spent as Public Relations Officer in a fire department, I can understand the frustrations of releasing information after a fire has started (such as the Partner email coming to the list prior to the FAQ being posted). However, we also were in the practice of fire prevention and gave out information to help prevent the fires. In this case, I think MM could have used some fire prevention. For example, telling someone not to throw a gasoline onto a fire before they do it, can be effective. Telling them not to throw gasoline onto a fire after they do it is kind of a moot point. This is similar to the case with the FAQ. A lot of the fuel for the Hosting Fire would have been prevented by giving out the FAQ up front (and somebody had to know those questions would be asked). However, giving out that information as a reaction to the fire is too late. It's a good effort, but we have already seen people who would have strung people up who mumbled the word PHP up as heretics that are now ready to learn it themselves. That is how far out of control the fire got before the wait an FAQ is coming and then hey, the FAQ is here messages came out. I do not think that all of the negativity towards MM is warranted. I do believe though that from a information/marketing position MM did not think out the release of information properly and did not prepare for the potential reaction that it got. 1. Somebody had to realize that an email addressed to the partners would eventually make the discussion lists. This is classic I got mine, did you get yours? 2. Somebody had to realize that the questions in the FAQ would arise? So, why not put the whole package together first before releasing the information right before the weekend. In doing so, much of the time spent on this thread may have minimalized. The same could have held true for the information that came out about Spectra. My issue is not with your product. I was pointing out that people were complaining about the price increase in CF 5.0 and that maybe there is a benefit to that whereas the people who already shelled out the big $$$ for Spectra are the ones who are really taking the hit. Again, it is an information issue. MM has to realize that the cf community is going to be cautious under the circumstances. And, the fact that they have acquired a company that is about to have a major release is no picnic for them either. Their best option would to inform, if not over-inform, the community with proper, well planned information releases that answer more questions than the usual 5 W's. MM has to gain the trust of the cf community and CF 5.0 is their prime opportunity to do so. So, giving out a little more information would have shown that MM is committed to the community because it took the time to consider all of the questions/concerns that could arise. Most people assume a price increase with an upgrade. Introducing a completely new licensing scheme a few days before the price list comes out without any prior information or supplemental information is alienating. And, to say that the information was not available because the decision was just recently made is just irresponsible and in that case any release of information should have waited. RE: New CF5 Partner Hosting License
I agree Dave. I was just trying to lighten the mood (on Friday) with the book comment. Our position is to wait and see. I think that if we had purchased Spectra at its price tag and then learned that there would not be future releases (and that some of its components would be in CF 5.0 at a lesser cost than Spectra), then we would be more concerned about getting what we are paying for. Here's how we are using the moreover feeds: http://www.wjol.com/news/national/index.cfm?fuseaction=currentheadlines We created a database with the moreover feed information and then utilized one of the moreover tags in the tag gallery to fetch the headlines. mega-poll
Has anyone seen any poll tags that handle 15 or so options? I've got a radio station that wants to poll their top 8 at 8 songs on their site. I've seen tags in the developer gallery that will hand between 5 and 10 that I'm sure we could modify, but was wondering if anyone had already done this. The other issue is that 15 items could get to look messy, so I was interested in how others may have handled that aspect. Thanks in advance. RE: CFGRID Display Problem
If you are using an NT/2000 web server and the CFIDE directory is not located within your web site directory, you will need to create a virtual directory called CFIDE and map it to default CFIDE directory on the web server. At least that is what our problem with cf_tree was. John Lucas [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: Les Mizzell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, March 19, 2001 2:47 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: CFGRID Display Problem I've just started using CFGRID for a couple of projects, but I'm having a major problem/setback. CFGRID displays and functions perfectly on my dev machine, plus displays perfectly once posted to the clients site, but only on my dev machine... However, my client is unable to view the grid from his location. He simply gets a big gray box and nothing I've tested on several different machines other than my dev machines as well and am getting the same thing. Since it's a JAVA app, the applet already exist on my local machine, and thusly CFGRID will run. Any idea what may be keeping it from running on any other box though? RE: OT: Cheaper Alternative to SQL Server 2000
You can run MySQL on a win box. Windows versions of MySQL require a license. However, it is considerably less that SQL Server. http://www.abriasoft.com/products11.php has a Win32 compiled version. The standard version runs $109.00 One thing to consider with MySQL is that while it is supported on Linux and NT/2000, the databases are not compatible. MySQL saves the databases as files on the server. The files structure differences between Linux and NT/2000 makes it "virtually" impossible to simply move the database from one to the other. However, you could always create a new database on the one being move to and do a query update. You'll have to install the MySQL drivers on the NT/2000 box to use ODBC. CF does not natively handle MySQL DSN setup through CF Administrator on the NT/2000 platform, but you could create the datasources through the ODBC manager on the server. I believe there my be a tag in the Allaire tag gallery that will do this for you as well. Additionally, you can use Access to create your structures on MySQL through an ODBC connection. www.accessmysql.com ($30.00) John Lucas [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: Adrian Cooper [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, February 22, 2001 2:58 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: Re: OT: Cheaper Alternative to SQL Server 2000 - Original Message - From: "JustinMacCarthy" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, February 22, 2001 7:03 PM You could look at MySql -Free Except for the fact if you are running NT/2000, you will need a seperate machine to run Linux/mySQL and which then costs the same as SQL Server for an appropriate spec machine. I agree that_if_you have a decent Linux box already - mySQL is a good solution for sure, but beyond that I am intrigued by the possibilities for MSDE - anyone tried that? virtual memory error, CF, and the infinite loop
I've gone through the archives and realize that this issue has been talked about. I would just like to further input if anyone has some. We've got a PIII 500 Win2k CFPro 4.5.1 box with 512MB RAM running. Up until the last two weeks or so, we have had no problems with this machine. However, we've recently run into situations where CF is pegged out causing the server to crash. I know that my problem probably lies within a file that is looping. My question is: Can anyone tell me the best method for finding out which file is causing the loop? I've checked the eventviewer and can not find anything special there. I've looked through the CF logs, but to be perfectly honest, I have no idea what I am looking for in there...they haven't been too much help. The situation is further complicated because we are in the process of staging a replacement server that is a Dual PIII 866 with 1GB RAM. I would like to try an locate this file before we move everything to our new server which is 15 days from being installed, plus I have to keep the current server functional until the switch. Thanks in advance for any information especially for information leading to the arrest or capture of this looping bandit. John Lucas [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~~ Structure your ColdFusion code with Fusebox. maketree
I have a strange problem that I can not figure out. I have tried both the cf_maketree tag and the cfx_make_tree cfx tag. On one development machine, the icons display correctly. However, when we moved the setup to another development machine, the folder icons are missing. Both machines are WIN2K Servers with CF Professional 4.5.1. I can't seem to find any image files to associate with the tags. Anyone else ever come across this? Thanks, John Lucas ~~ Structure your ColdFusion code with Fusebox.
