Hello,

The Vette is up and running. After reading everyone's suggestions, I went
to Autozone and picked up an HEI coil (a stock one, as in cheap!). After
installing the coil, I turned the key and it started - for a mintute, then
it died. I tried again and it started doing what it was doing before! I
moved the distributor around a few times and it finally started and stayed
running. It appears that the coil went bad - it was a farily new coil so I
figured it wasn't the problem.

For now everything seems to be back to normal (except for the empty house).
In a couple hours I'll go out and see if it still starts. Thanks for all
your input - again

fixable is one thing; bottom line is what the insurance company wants to do is what the insurance company will do. good luck dealing with them. i hope it is a decent insurance company. i just dealt with State Farm on a 87 buick park avenue that was mint (mother -in-laws -57000 miles) . i went online and did some research and also used some NADA books. when the smoke cleared their offer was within $100.00 of my figures. They weren't close to my mother-in-laws figures but she didn't even know what year (this is another story) the car was.

Sorry that I didn't answer before.

I had the same problem on my van last summer, I can bet a beer that it is
the hei module, mine started, run really raw with loads of bing and bangs.
I changed plugs and wires and cap and coil and everything except the module,
when I finally changed the module I could put all the new parts back in the
boxes and the car started as a new one.

When my 67 Nova was T-boned, the insurance company considered it totaled.
That only meant that they would not pay as much to fix it as it would cost.
I didn't have to buy it back all I had to do was *not* junk it. I had just
rebuilt the engine and it had about 1,000 miles on it. Luckily I found a 63
Nova in great cosmetic shape w/ no engine in it for $300.

It may be something that varies from state to state, or it may be that they
did things differently back then, but I don't remember having to pay
anything to buy the car back. All I had to do was tow it home and accept
the few hundred dollar maximum payout.

Brake rotors, some tubing (old driveshafts?), and some Stanchion Rope (only
$5.25 for 8 ft on the web) and you could cover the rope with velvet in your
cars colour (or paint the stanchions the exterior colour and do the rope in
the same colour as the cars interior) for the extra touch. Or even chrome
them as shown below (from http://www.skperformance.com/SKP_STANCHTION.htm )
although I'd be tempted to blow some paint on homemade ones and call it quits.

Well it's time to think about what's next on the list for the Chevelle.

I am going to put in a new exhaust system from the collectors back and was
wondering what the list members recommend,I sort have been leaning toward
the flowmaster system because of the number of people that have gone that
way , it would be the 3 chamber if I go that route.

But I wondered about the other systems out there and their positives and
negatives, Flowtech,Borla etc. and any others that might be available here
in Canada.

Kelly, treat you car and medical damages separately. If the car is

For medical you would have what ever expenses you personally incurred. For
pain and suffering, typical settlements are 3 times your medical bills. If
you wife works, you could also be entitled to any lost wages due to time
lost resulting from the accident. I've been down this path after getting
T-boned by a kid doing 50 mph - I walked away - the car was totaled -
bought it back from the insurance company as I had just rebuilt the engine
- parted everything else out and paid $20 for the salvage yard to pick up
the shell.

Hope everything works out for you and our wife!

that will be between you and the adjuster. they will have a set price that
they will let you have the car for. is it drivable? if it int figure if you
do keep it that it will have to be towed again. then were will you keep it?
can she be without a car for the amount of time it takes you to fix it? can
you get all the parts you need immediately ? ` i think after you get your
bids you will be surprised how much it will cost to fix. well maybe you
won't but a lot of people get the sticker shock  and just don't believe how
expensive it is to fix a crunched up car. you may want to look at what you
can buy another decent one for if they total it and use it for leverage on
the price.
I just pulled up the value and found that it rests somewhere between $3300
and $4150. It could cost that much to fix, but I doubt it. We've discussed
the options that lie ahead and she wants to keep it if she canif not
it's her call about what comes next. I told her that 1979 is the cutoff
year, so no telling what she might pick next...her ears perked up when I
said Firebird or Camaro

We talked to several people todaygot her MRI and evaluation and also
talked to a lawyer. Allstate, it seems, is very hard to deal with and
doesn't like to pay claims. Glad we called the pro in to help deal with the
insurance company. My insurance company also said our PIP would pay the
costs of the medical if his insurance was not paying or wasn't current, so
we're covered on her injury either way.

We won't know until tomorrow, what the MRI or evaluation says, but she has
several areas that will require therapy..

Well, I finally got my '69 SS elky back today. It looks great, for the money.

In the meantime, I need the little rubber bumbers that go inside the gascap

I agree with Steve. Call first, they most likely
charged you the regular price and not the special. If they overcharged, they
should call your bank to correct any problems.

I have the 1968-72 El Camino rubber bumper kit in stock for $11.95. Includes
rubber bumpers for doors, trunk lid, hood, side of hood, gas tank door, and
glove box. No charge for shipping in the U.S. for the rest of this month, so
take advantage everybody while it lasts.

BTW, outrageous shipping charges are a peeve of my own. When we do start
charging for shipping, we will try very hard to post what we believe will be
the actual shipping cost for each item.

Kelly, treat you car and medical damages separately. If the car is
totalled come back at the insurance with any newer repairs or
reconditioning done to the car as part of a revised settlement on the car.

It won't go to total unless they are really high on the estimates. I
haven't done much to the car since we bought it. The lowest value I've
found for it online is only $200 less than we paid for it.

For medical you would have what ever expenses you personally incurred.

We aren't paying anything up front for medical, they are working with the
lawyers and the guy at fault's insurance will get all the bills.

For pain and suffering, typical settlements are 3 times your medical bills.

If she goes into therapy and treatment, I guess it'll take them awhile to
complete the treatment until we know what the amount is. I wonder how long
all this will takeguess that's up to the doctor (who treated Jana 8
years ago for a similar problem)

If you wife works, you could also be entitled to any lost wages due to time
lost resulting from the accident.

She owns her own business, so I don't know if they can figure for that or not.

Hope everything works out for you and our wife!

Thanks, I think she'll be okay, we won't know about the MRI until tomorrow
evening or Friday. As far as I go, I just want her to be well and for her
not to lose the car to a total and a shitty payout for itI'm doing my
homework on it tonite

To join the Olds list, go to
http://www.acs.ucalgary.ca/~csimpson/442Mail.html

There are a few people on this list who are also on the Olds list. I have
been on the Olds list for a couple of years now, and it is a good group.
Since starting Old Car Network late last year, I have also been helping a
lot of the Olds guys find NOS parts because there is not nearly as much
repro Olds stuff out there as there is for Chevelle. I hope to be adding a
couple thousand NOS parts to the OCN web site soon. I'll let you guys know
when it's there. It's been on the back burner because they are mostly
one-off items and it's a lot of work. It seems like there aren't enough
hours in the day lately...

Also, I was just kidding about you calling Trevor first. Trevor has a great
business going and I've bought stuff from him myself (because he has good
used parts and I don't). He is also on the west coast like you and he is
great to deal with.

tone when under acceleration but has no drone at highway speeds. I have a

Well,
gotta disagree with John on this. Ground Uphas helped to
support this mailing list, no other company does, even those that put
their business in the signature line on every email.
Hopefully a communication issue. Ken and the crew have been great at
supporting all the Chevelle activity online and haven't buried us in banners.
Please give them a call.

Keith is right. "Slow
down and find out first."

These issues are bestresolved via a
phone call to Ken at Ground Up, not on a mailing
list.

  MaybeI am

  out:
  Under
specials, then Chevelles, theres a Deluxe weatherstip kit, including all door

felt Does it say that the felt kit is an UPGRADE and they are going to
charge you more, and zap your card, without letting me know??? NO IT DOESN'T.
Strange that my invoice saved from the online order states $169.00

demand a refund?? Anyone else have this problem with this

  Sam I have
ordered 90% of the parts for my 70 form Ground UP, and continue to go to
them for all the needs of my 69. I have never had a problem with them.
Did you call them to make sure the discount was applicable to this
and/or that it was still current not expired?? I have spent in the
range of $7,000-$9,000 with them thus far and am very happy with them. I
am actually also on a first name basis with Ken, the owner. I have them
bring decent size orders to swap meets I know they attend. I usually get
a discount when I pick items up at these swap meets, and get free shipping on
most items since I am a frequent customer plus I get everything in 1 day since
they are in NY, and i am in NJ. I will say that they are the best resto
parts supplier I have dealt with yet, Year one OPG are overpriced and
like to rape you on shipping, they also neglect to tell you of back orders.

Sorry, Kelly. We started as a Classic Chevlle Club ('64 - '72) and that's
where we plan on staying. Seems funny nobody has started a club for the
later models, however, as there seems to be some interest among the owners.

Thanks for answering Chuck. It'll happen one day I think...the interest is
growing a bit and parts manufacturers are starting to carry the
partsthat's a good sign...maybe I will help get it started. Until then
I'll keep plugging away at my business until I can get the '70 SS 454 Elky
I want! Then I can join in the fun.

you may have been a little out of line by shaming Sam for patronizing the

Very cool, Dale. What mufflers are you using with the American Thunder pipes?
I've got a pair of 70-series big-block Flows on my '71 small-block convert and
really like the deep rumble. Also, same as you, no drone at cruise speeds.
Was curious about the 50-series Delta Flows. Anybody got a set on their
Chevelle? Opinions? The only problem with the 70-series is their size... it's
a tight fit because of their length, and the installation requires some
judicious trimming on both the mufflers and tailpipes to make 'em fit.
Flowmaster claims the Delta Flow design eliminates in-car rumble, and looking
at the size chart, they'll fit up a whole lot easier. Thinking about putting a
set on my wagon, and some feedback here would help with the decision.
