Re: [Chevelle-List] car sits lower on one side
May be bad body bushings (collapsed) or the springs may not be seated. If I had to venture a guess I'd say that the 30 year old rubber bushings have died of old age. There are about 4-6 bushings on each side (between frame & body) check them all. rick On Tue, 23 Apr 2002 21:07:10 -0700 "Doug Fugere" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: O.K. it looks as though the elcy sits one inch lower on the drivers side. Re: [Chevelle-List] tranny speedo gear
i goofed on the last reply the black gear is the one with the most teeth, 41 i believe, after that, you have to change the tailshaft gear. I have the black gear in my TH400 and the speedo still reads fast. I am gonna drop down the rear end gears from the 4.10's to 3.73's i figured out that should put it dead on accurate Tom

RE: [Chevelle-List] door panels
I have never tried it for this purpose, but I would consider contact cement for this unless anybody knows a reason not to. You put a light coat of it on both surfaces, wait 10 or 15 minutes and then stick them together. It is a very soupy liquid and needs to be applied with a brush. [Chevelle-List] RE: Pigeon Forge
Hey my fellow Ohio buddy, you talked me into it. Not sure how many guys would be interested, but we'll see. Here's my report: The good: Great Cars of all types. Don's buddy Mike mentioned he thought there were more Chevelles than any other specific type of car. I am not certain, could be! I know that Mustangs and Cameros were not far behind though. Fantastic weather in a great location. Couldn't ask for better! Tons of 55's-57's there in all kinds of shapes including show quality. Guys had cars there in all conditions...including some I wouldn't have the guts to try to show off. Some were really bad. But made me feel better about not having to have show quality to bring it to a rod run. There did appear to be a few good deals for those looking to buy, but had to come early to get them, or on Sunday when prices came down. Most rods were for sale. Plenty to choose from for buyers. People lining the 2 mile long strip with chairs to watch the cruise Could still get in the restaurants, the town handled the crowds well. Cops were on hand but only got out and busted people when safety (stupidity) became an issue. Great job by local law enforcement! Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum was worth the $8.25 for admission, and while there were some neat cars and even 2 69 Chevelles, they were stock as from the factory cars. The Bad: Too many teeny boppers there in mom and dad's car (non rods) cruising for most of the rods to come out and cruise. Although a few did. The traffic into town started Friday afternoon and didn't end until midnight Saturday. Trying to get through town could take you hours! The hotels rates were jacked up from around $40 normal rates to well over $100 and most were sold out. Car prices that were too high in my opinion and included just a shell of a 55 chevy for $8,500 Not Sure/Interesting?: Teen boys in pickup trucks with large American and Rebel flags sticking up in the back bed with several shirtless guys singing to country music. I took a couple pics myself with my digital. I can try to get one down to size to fit in an attachment to the list if anyone is interested. I remember one knock out red paint job that I just had to take a pic of. What I was able to hear in the short time it ran sounded great though, and after I cleaned up the mess, both on the car and myself, I decided to walk away from it until tomorrow. Re: [Chevelle-List] Any advice for a Quadrajet on a 69 SS396
Mel, Thanks for the testimonial. Earlier today, I called the Edelbrock tech line and they told me that it is indeed a direct bolt-in for my original 7029214 original Qjet & I can use my stock fuel line and throttle linkage, but it is NICE to hear that someone has actually done it (I'd like to have my original 7029214 rebuilt and reconditioned someday, but I'm nervous as heck to send my numbers correct one off to someone I don't know & may never see it again & have my car "down" during this time to boot, so I'm going to hunt around for somebody local to rebuild my original one when the time comes & meanwhile I'll either pick up an Edelbrock 1910 or an OEM unit new/rebuilt one to put on and run). [Chevelle-List] Lowering the front end on my '69
My '69 sits too high in the front. I have new set of TRW OEM replacement BBC springs, and yes a BBC engine. I've really not lightened the front end much, but I have a FG hood, aluminum intake and aluminum radiator. Everything else is pretty much stock. Any suggestions on how I could lower this 1"-2" ? Properly? I cut a coil off my existing springs, and it dropped too far to be driveable (tires hit inner fenders, header nearly on the ground, etc). I do have a new set of SBC springs, but I wonder if they would be appropriate. I guess it's only labor to install them and see. Although I hate to do it. It's all I can do to compress a spring with 2 hands, set it in place, push up the lower aframe with one foot, and put the ball joint nut on with my other foot And not pop a vein in the process. :-) Thanks for any suggestions... -- Check out my webpage at http://www.ProStreetCar.com and my For Sale page at http://www.ProStreetCar.com/classifieds.html Tremec Distributor at http://www.tremectransmissions.com/ Team Chevelle membership #178 (Gold) - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [Chevelle-List] oil pressure and lifter ticking+ Fram Filters
I'm familiar with 2 rules of thumb when it comes to SBC oil pressure: 10 psi for each 1000 RPM, and the same rule plus an additional 10 psi. For example, at 2000 RPM one rule would be that 20 psi is fine and the other would be that 30 psi is fine. Sounds like you're doing OK in the oil pressure department. One thing that should be done when rehabbing a set of heads (especially if a high-volume oil pump will be used) is the cleanup of the oil return passages. Often there's a lot of leftover casting flash that reduces the size of the passages; a rotary tool (Dremel) and carbide cutters will do the job just fine. Once the oil has dripped down to the top of the head it serves no purpose and should return to the pan ASAP... Brad O. PS I prefer ACDelco Duraguard oil filters. > Actually, The heads were redone, and by cleaning them up, I meant cleaned up > the ports after they were redone to help flow a little bit better. RE: [Chevelle-List] '72 Chevelle w/Cadillac 425
The 425 was used in Oldsmobiles in the early 60s, but was replaced in 1968 by the 455 (which is a stroked 425). I don't know if it's exactly the same engine, but Olds & Cadillac used a lot of the same parts. The Olds 425 & 455 engines are considered to be very good because of the high nickel content in the blocks (among other things). John Nasta -Original Message- IIRC the 425 was introduced in the mid to late '70s after the 472 and 500 had been phased out. It's probably got pretty good low-end torque but I suspect aftermarket parts may be relatively scarce compared to Chevy and other GM engines. I know Edelbrock came out with some 472-500 parts in the last couple of years but they might not fit the 425; perhaps you can find some info at edelbrock.com. Re: [Chevelle-List] Any advice for a Quadrajet on a 69 SS396
I just installed the Edelbrock #1901 about two weeks ago as I was having all kinds of troubles with the old Rochester. All problems cured when the 1901 was installed, the install was flawless and quick. All linkages, etc are exact. Included are new gasket, threaded rod and wing nut to secure air cleaner lid, caps to plug vacuum ports you may not use, stud to connect accelerator cable and instructions. Very happy with the Edelbrock carb. -- Jeff Fischer Lake Elmo, MN '71 Chevelle SS, 454, 4 spd http://home.attbi.com/~addss/chevelle.html At 08:24 PM 4/22/2002 -0400, you wrote: >Hi, > > I'd like to find a replacement Quadrajet for my 69 SS396. That's correct. All 4-bbl 283s used Rochester 4G or Carter carbs. The Q-Jet first appeared in '65 on the 396 and in '66 began transitioning to the smallblock; the '66 327 could be had with either a squarebore or the Q-Jet. Re: [Chevelle-List] oil pressure and lifter ticking+ Fram Filters
Sounds to me like either your oil pump is too much for your application. I was going to put a high volume one in a 350 I rebuilt a while back but an old school mechanic and a few other guys told me it can be a bad idea 'cause the HV can put out more of the oil in your pan quicker than a stock which is a good idea. if you have a larger capacity pan, if not you can run out of oil in the bottom end, which is deffinatly not good. And then again it does sound like a possibly bad set of lifters. You said that you just cleaned up the heads so I'm taking it that you cleaned 'em painted 'em and threw them on (guilty on this so don't feel bad) so its possible. With your Fram oil filter all I have to say is personally I would stop using them, cut a Fram apart and then cut apart an AC Delco or basically anything else. I ran across an old display at my old work (AutoZone, getting ready to go to a real parts store old school locally owned) with all the filters' tops cut off so the customer could see basically the Fram looks like junk compared to even the cheep filters!!! Fram threatened to sue AutoZone for having this display a few years back thats why you don't see it anymore. Well I'll shut up, later. Re: [Chevelle-List] 1966 1967 console Question
Your correct Larry. The 350 THM is a medium duty 3 speed used from 1969 to 1987. Generally used in straight and V6 and small block engines. Only able to handle about 400 foot pounds of torque. In the red book I see a m40 turbohydramatic with 13,272 being sold. I believe this is a th400. as from what I've always read no BB chevs ever came with a th350 and also the th350 came out until 69 anyway. Did you know even in 68 you could get a powerglide with the big block? Wasn't the m10 a three speed overdrive manual transmission? Larry (z)
