Yes but you'll notice the only HA Chevelle (A) code is 1969. It could
very well be an engine block from a full size Chevrolet (B) though. In
any event, it's probably a good engine and no reason not to use it
unless you enter in some shows as an original or original restored car
and they even check engine codes - which many do not, not even AACA.

That motor came with a carter 4027s, there is one on ebay right now from a
66. I can't find any info on the CFM. The Holley that came on the L79 350HP
was 585 so I'm sure it wouldn't be any more than that. I found a discussion
thread where a guy flow tested them and said they were 582 but take that for
what it is worth.

I think if you look again, it's the number "1". The letter "I" was used
to represent the number "1" on pre 69 engine build date stampings but
beginning in 1969 the number "1" was beginning to be used; like these
http://chevellestuff.net/1969/engines/index.htm.

A suffix code of "IHA" makes no sense and neither would a data of T052 -
not enough numbers to make a mm/dd code. Dealers would not have
installed a warranty engine with a date coded and suffix stamped engine.
The warranty was only 2 years or 24000 miles for 1966 Chevelles.

Sounds more like someone stamped a 1969 engine suffix code (or tried to)
on the engine block but without a photo... If you have a photo of the
engine pad, could email it to me off list at ad...@chevellestuff.net?

327 crank. The owner had a 283 he was having problems with. So after
while the dealer installed a new engine. Thats the story i got.

That motor came with a carter 4027s, there is one on ebay right now from

It is leaking so fast it cannot be driven. I may have to install a pipe to

Simply cut off the flares, slide on the male ends and re-flare. You may
already have the male ends on the lines they have just slide down the
lines.
You may also buy premade ends that can be spliced on to the old lines with
a

coupler. Any trans shop, brake or radiator shop can do it for you.

They sell fittings with the male pipe threads on one end & the female flared
on the other end, just buy the fittings & you don't have to do any cutting

I did the painless system on my 67. It was ok, but I am in electronics. The
painless system uses the same color codes as the original harness and many
features of the new micro-fuse blocks in current production cars and trucks.

It comes down to a few questions like Brad said. What do you want such as 14
circuits? Do you think you can pigtail and splice the harness back in?

I was doing mine one evening and a skunk scampered by the garage door. We had
a few tense moments.

Re: [Chevelle-list] 66 rewired

2008-07-10 Thread bad66chevelle454

 Dale,

M&H actually makes the OEM dash harness, but with new blade style fuses. I
don't know if they will add circuits though. I was going to replace my dash
harness with the blade one, but my original harness was in perfect shape, so I
just reused it. I know M&H will also make the engine harness ready for HEI and
not points. I personally installed their rear harness and it couldn't of worked
any better...when I use to work at True Connections, we sold tons of their
harness's, and I don't remember one complaint from them. So a big thumbs up
from me! :o)

If you want OEM replacement stuff, try M&H
Electric Fabricators at http://www.wiringharness.com/.
They are expensive but are reported to be very, very good quality.
If you’re adding or want additional circuits there are any number of
universal kits available that include the newer spade fuses.

rewired

Has anyone rewired a 66 Chevell
e? I have a 66 Chevelle
originally a 6 now an 8. I was wondering if you could shed some light on the
different products out there for a complete redo of the wiring. Are there any
ones I should seek out or avoid. How long a process is this, it seems to be a
straight forward swap. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I agree, M & H are great!! I have installed many of them on my car. You can
customize to your needs for the engine harness. Hei or points, guages and
such.

If you want OEM replacement stuff, try M&H Electric Fabricators at
http://www.wiringharness.com/. They are expensive but are reported to be
very, very good quality. If you're adding or want additional circuits there
are any number of universal kits available that include the newer spade
fuses.

I haven't completely rewired my carbut I've done a fair share of work on
it. If you want to just rewire everything stock, I HIGHLY recommend M&H Wire
Harness's. I used one of their harness's in my 66, and it was perfect. Colors
the same as original, came with all the new clips/connectors, correct lengths,
etc. I know that True-Connections, www.true-connections.com stocks and sells
M&H harness's. I've never used or seen Painless wiring harness's, so I don't
know about themthe only thing I've heard about them is that they are more
of a generic type harness.

As far as wiring...it's pretty involved. There is a forward lamp harness,
engine harness, dash harness, intermediate wiring, and the rear lamp harness.
Not impossiblebut requires a decent amount of work.

Screws are original. They look good in my opinion. As far as other options, you
can do whatever you like. But if you need to remove the panel, screws are easy.
Drill new holes as the old holes are probably worn out or too big. You can
drill right thru the panel and door with a drill half the size of the screw.

Quick question. The door panels on my 66, are the little clips that go into
the cones the only thing that hold the panel on? The molding holds the top, and
the clips/cones hold the sides, the arm rest holds it in the middle, but I
guess my real question is if anything holds it at the bottom? Just seems like
it would flop around over time. The clips came with screws alsowhat are
those for?

center brace rod, #3584940 nuts for the #9414764 screws that screw the top
and two sides plus other various screws for things like glove box, trim,

There isn't a dash bolt kit, but there is a interior screw kit. It comes with
the screws that attach the lower dash to the upper dash, but not the bolts.
There is about 8-10 screws, 2 bolts per side, a bolt in the middle, plus the
steering column nuts that hold the dash in.

How yah doing buddy. I just installed the Goodmark 66 Cowl steel hood,
yesterday. I can take pictures of anything you'd like. For me, it fit pretty
good. Its a little bit off, but I just bolted it on, no adjustments. Plus my
hood hinges are worn out. I figured whats the point of adjusting if I'm just
getting new hood hinges. I just put the hood on there so I can get it to the
paint shop. Let me know if you want pictures or anything. As far as where to
get oneI live right next to/work at True Connections, so naturally I
went there. Shipping is going to be hellWhen I worked at True
Connections as thier shipper, I shipped quite a few hoods. We never had any
problems, but it's expensive. Good luck-

Herb, We used the Goodmark hood on the 66 I just finished. It was a major
pain to make fit. When I set the hood on the floor, one corner was 4" off
the floor. It was made worst by the use of aftermarket fenders. If Harwood
makes one buy it. From my experience their hoods are worth the price
difference.

Yeah I know how you are Mike! I guess I'll have to do more research on the
'ol net until I can come up with something. I don't mind going for a drive
if it means I can inspect the hood before I buy it. Considering how much
work went into the 'glass hood on the Elky, I'm trying to find an easier
(cheaper) route. Thanks.

I guess our industry standard is not too good. The one we went with was the
second one. The first we refused. It was maybe six inches out. I buy those
type of parts from Classic Muscle. They deliver to us daily with no freight
charge. (to the body shop) They are a div. of Modern Chevrolet and a huge
supplier of body panels in our State. Harwood does not list a 66 cowl hood.
According to Claude we would have had much less time fitting a glass hood.
The overall quality of the hood was good, it was just way out square. You
know how peculiar I am about fit.

Hi Mike, I thought Goodmark was supposed to be the industry standard! Could
it have been damaged during shipping?

As for Harwood, I was trying to stay away from a 'glass hood this time

Herb, We used the Goodmark hood on the 66 I just finished. It was a major
pain to make fit. When I set the hood on the floor, one corner was 4" off
the floor. It was made worst by the use of aftermarket fenders. If Harwood
makes one buy it. From my experience their hoods are worth the price
difference.

2008-01-13 Thread bad66chevelle454

Herb,

How yah doing buddy. I just installed the Goodmark 66 Cowl steel hood,
yesterday. I can take pictures of anything you'd like. For me, it fit pretty
good. Its a little bit off, but I just bolted it on, no adjustments. Plus my
hood hinges are worn out. I figured whats the point of adjusting if I'm just
getting new hood hinges. I just put the hood on there so I can get it to the
paint shop. Let me know if you want pictures or anything. As far as where to
get oneI live right next to/work at True Connections, so naturally I went
there. Shipping is going to be hellWhen I worked at True Connections as
thier shipper, I shipped quite a few hoods. We never had any problems, but it's
expensive. Good luck-

2007-10-21 Thread DK239
Two years ago I got a restored 1966 Chevelle SS (clone) from my Son and
Daughter-in-law for Fathers Day. The shop that did the work really stuck it to
him and there were many problems that were promised to be resolved but never
were.
Today the next chapter of the story began, at 9:00 am Frank and Lisa from
Prodigy Customs arrived and picked up my 66 and my sons 69 Camaro for a trip
to Florida to have all the problems repaired.

I have had these stored for 10 years. I was told they were
66 Chevelle SS seats, might fit 66 GTO & others. I read the
66 was one year only. They have the metal backs, they need
foam & covers, the springs are like new, slides work.

I may put them on Ebay someday, but I will not ship them.
They have to be picked up in Dallas, TX. $225.00 firm .

Re: [Chevelle-list] 66 Rear Quarter Extension Gasket Question

2007-04-01 Thread rocky hill
Rich,

If you look in your 66 Fisher body service manual,
section 9-29 view "A" item number 3 from the factory
there was a foam type gasket that lay in the groove
that runs around the outer edge of the quater
extension where it meets with the quarter panel.

It act as a cushon between the two surfaces and keeps
the paint from chipping when the two pieces are drawn
together, and also act as a water seal. It is called a
Paint Chip Gasket, that is the name of it in the
Fisher Body Manual.

The replacement doesn't look like the original. I
figured it out yesterday when I removed my rear
quarter extensions to reseal, I have had a small leak
for the last 9 years and finally got around to fixing
it. The new gasket looks like this U> and id made of
rubber It clips around the lower edge and the flat
taper part lay across the groove, unlike the factory
original that lays IN the groove and was made of a
foam type material.

Hope that helps.

Basically the same. The big block does not have a bolt in the front of the
engine block you can remove to thread a longer bolt into to keep the fuel
pump rod up and out of the way like the small block. The big block has a
plug below the fuel pump mounting boss to remove the fuel pump rod but you
shouldn't have to bother with that unless you want to have someone hold a
thin rod up against the fuel pump rod when you install the pump - much like
the procedure above for a small block. There is no 'adapter' plate to remove
if needed like the small block, the pump bolts directly to the machined area
on the block.

These steps should do it.

1. Ensure new pump is correct with correct fuel line sizes and
connection angles. If not correct, make it so.
2. Install gasket on new pump and set aside to dry.
3. Disconnect negative terminal on battery. (I just always do.)
4. Disconnect fuel lines on pump and be prepared for draining fuel.
5. Remove two bolts that mount the pump and remove.
6. Clean gasket mounting surface on block as needed.
7. Optional: Remove plug below fuel pump to allow access to fuel pump
rod and either place some grease on the camshaft end of rod to keep it in
place or have someone with a thin, stiff piece of wire push the rod up
against the camshaft when installing new pump. Either way, the rod needs to
be held up so arm of fuel pump can be inserted below it
8. With at least one (preferably both) bolts in the new pump, install
pump and start the two bolts evenly ensuring the fuel pump rod is properly
positioned on top of the fuel pump actuating lever.
9. Snug down the two fuel pump mounting bolts.
10. Reattach fuel lines - replace rubber line from tank line to pump if
necessary.
11. Reinstall fuel pump rod plug if removed in step 7.
12. Reconnect battery.
13. Start car and check for leaks.

I miss anything?
