I've had a turbo charged Mustang before! It was fun, but it's not an instant demand product. There is a tiny bit of lag. A Supercharger is positive, although it does have to hit a certain boost level. When I drop the hammer things happen. Ride in my 468 with the 8-71 BDSI'll bet on it VS a turbo any day!!(GRIN) Bring it on! Mostly, I just wondered how well that much overbore would work or if it might cause overheating due to the thin walls. It is an '82 4 bolt with 4 eyebrow flat tops. Probably go with a comp 268 or so hydraulic cam, dual plane and headers. Hoping for about 300 horses and decent torque. I updated the cooling system to accommodate the heating up problem. I used 9.5:1 pistons then used a set of completely reworked 64cc heads that were shaved to bring the compression ratio to 10.75:1 . I would suggest getting a good radiator preferable aluminum. I'm sure other people have other opinions. But this combination worked well for me. I also have an electric fan installed with an override switch for driving in traffic. The switch bypasses the temp switch leaving the fan run continuously. Re: [Chevelle-list] RE: Chevelle-list Digest, Vol 28, Issue 32
Cracks on BBC starter mounts are almost always the result of using the wrong bolt. Starter bolts have knurling between the threads and the head that is meant to fit tightly in the block to absorb the torque of the starter. The bolts are different for each starter (auto, stick are different) and may even differ from year to year. If you have an original starter, rebuild it and reuse it and use the exact correct length and grade bolt. In other words, use the original bolts... Also, I have heard the bolts are no longer being produced. There are companies out there that claim they have them, but they do not have the correct bolt. The moral of the story is don't throw your old bolts out... - Original Message - From: BILL HINDMAN [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Chevelle-list@chevelles.net Sent: Monday, November 14, 2005 11:41 AM Subject: [Chevelle-list] RE: Chevelle-list Digest, Vol 28, Issue 32 Does anyone have any information concerning mini-starters cracking in the bolt holes on big blocks. Ron I agree with you that GM really needs some new design engineers badly. Maybe get some fresh college grads in there with some hot new ideas. Hopefully not more rice burners though. I haven't seen one in person yet but Chevy High Performance had a write up about the HHR in their September issue and I think appearance wise it could compete with the PT Cruiser. Perhaps for the person that wants some real get up and go it will fall short, and they may have done something different with the grill, but in all it has a decent appearance. I may check them out and if they are as nice as the article made out I might try to talk the company into getting me one when they replace my Windstar. The wife and daughter will kill me if they do each time we have to move my daughter to and from Purdue University though. The Windstar isn't huge, but compared to our cars with the seats out and stacked to the ceiling it will carry a lot. Pontiac had a great idea...I just wish that they weren't stuck on having everything look like a Grand Am It seems that GM really needs help in it's design department, I cant think of a nice looking vehicle (Corvette is the exception) that they are currently producing, certainly nothing that makes the style headlines like the Mustang, PT Cruiser, Magnum, 300. It seems that Mopar has all the style, Ford has the retro, and GM is left with the LaCrosse (or is that really just an ugly Taraus?), the HHR's,, The Vue, and the H3. (not even THINKING about the Avalanche) What the H3ll are they thinking? If it weren't for the trucks and the SUV's they would have gone out of business long ago, and as far as I am concerned, they haven't made any nice looking trucks since 2002! Sorry if I have stepped on any toes, but I remember when GM meant the best looking AND the best performing vehicles. I wish they would go back to leading instead of being content to fall to the wayside. Keith - Original Message - Didn't mean offend by my comments, but to me the styling of the current GTO is rather bland. GM has a great plateform to build from, they just have not hit the right spot with me.

Welcome to the list. There is someone else on the list who is from SA, he posted some pictures of several interesting cars a few months ago. I hope that he chimes in. you may think that about the GTO, but the 05' with the 6.0L vette engine will beat down the charger no matter what engine you get with it. for the money you cant get a charger for 30k with the good engine. the mustang is cheaper then the gto yes but hey its you that has to drive it if you buy it. performance wise i'll keep my new goat and can beat almost anything on the road. also everytime i'm at a stoplight i always get heads turning to look at it. so much for it being vanilla i guess. The 05 GTO is a much more muscular looking car than the 04 and definitely stands out more. I don't know if it would work or if you even have the room to try it, but what about using one of the cans of compressed air that they use to blow out printed circuit boards on computers to get any dust or dirt out of the switch. Now that I think about it I think the switch completely incased so this wouldn't work. Yes they do look better...and they do perform. I would just like to see GM step up and do something special with it. Look what our options are from them for a V8, rear wheel car - a truck (have a '04 Tahoe), Corvette (a lot of money), GTO, and a Cadillac CTS-V (I drove a friend's CTS-V and it rocked, but again a lot of money). My family will be in the market for a new ride sometime soon ('bout time to get rid of the DeVille - the old man car) and I'm just not seeing anything on the GM side that fits the bill. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Clint Hooper Sent: Tuesday, August 30, 2005 9:08 PM To: The Chevelle Mailing List Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Re: Chevelle-list Digest, Vol 25, Issue 73 I don't think any offense was taken,Ron. John, I have an 8-71 BDS blower sticking through the hood so I don't need a scoop.(GRIN) I like the slight rise of the ZL II hood. First time contribution, long time reader. On age,man where has the time gone,I am 63!First time Chevelle, got out of the U.S.Navy,Seabees,direct from Viet Nam in 1967,bought a used 66 SS from Baldwin Chevrolet,Marina Blue, black interior,4 speed,360 h.p.373 rear, all stock low mileage car, previous owner was drafted! Purchased it in Dec.67,for $2100 and some change went to work for Eastern Airlines same month at JFK it was stolen from me in Feb.68 never recovered. With the insurance money I bought another Chevelle from Baldwin Chevrolet,a 67 Malibu, convertible,Madeira Maroon, black interior,4speed,373 rear and a 327/325 h.p. engine, man what a sleeper she was!Wish I still had them both.Fast forward,I now have a 69 El Camino,4 speed,350/350,not the stock engine,Madeira maroon, really liked this color, black interior air car, and have owned it since 1977 and it is a daily driver.Purchased it in ATL for $900.00,a 3 speed,307,331 rear, air, am/fm radio. What can I say I like Chevelles!!!Also tool around in a Corvette that I have,I like to think of it as the the best of two worlds. Re: [Chevelle-list] RE: Chevelle-list Digest, Vol 19, Issue 17
Dan, I wanted to add my thoughts as I had several things chromed over the years. You, pretty much, have the price range. $200 or so per bumber is about right. I used a company called Superior in Houston. They go to the DFW swap meets. I also used a Harley shop called Show-n-go chrome. You might want to think about that. Bikes are real popular these days and if the bumpers don't not need any work, that might be a good option. Otherwise find a company that can fix the bumper right and then chrome it so it will last. Hope this helps regards mike --- Dan Mascheck [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: What does it cost to re-chrome a bumper? I would like to get both of mine re-chromed for a 72 Chevelle. DO NOT use central plating in CA it was my worst experence in chroming i have ever had!!! they redid my bumper 3- times and kept adding more chrome plate to it each time- by the 3rd time it was coming off in sheets, i sent some small parts with the bumper to be done and they lost them all- promised to refund my money- never did Harlan

I'll check into the re-chroming. The price is not that bad, and my bumpers are in good shape, but re-chroming would enhance the package!! Thanks!! I'm trying to find some place in Houston, TX area. There are several places that do industrial chrome, but I need to find one that doesn't mind doing car bumpers on the side! Thanks Mike..I live in Wharton so Houston is close. I notice the name Superior on a Google Search, but was unsure to try them. My Bumpers are in good shape..they have some minor etching or pitting from sand I guess. You have to get close to notice it, but I do want to correct the problem. It always seems like there is so much you want to correct and only so much cash to go around!(GRIN) I'm putting a new BDS 8-72 blower on my 454 and that took a chunk! Dan The price varies from shop to shop.. I have used Tri-City Plating in Tenn. over the years..They go to major shows in the East coast..There cost is about $220 a piece. aprox. Plus shipping. My last set took 4 weeks turn around.. There plating is top shelf. and guaranteed for life ! I had a problem with a 65 bumper and they replaced it ( exchange) no problem... I exchanget it at one of the Carlisle PA shows. A repop is cheaper for sure. you need no core .. I helped install a set of repop (goodmark) on a 70 Chevelle , just after the new year. Te chrome is not a deep and the metal lighter then original but all in all IMO a good bang for the BUCK... I had mine done locally. Cost was $175 each. Not a deep show chrome, but a very nice job. Probably closer to original than the show chrome. A repop is cheaper for sure. you need no core .. I helped install a set of repop (goodmark) on a 70 Chevelle , just after the new year. Te chrome is not a deep and the metal lighter then original but all in all IMO a good bang for the BUCK... I installed the switch motor from an 80 camaro in my 72 elky. Works just like factory. I have hidden wipers they do PARK in correct location. MIST - Sweeps 2X then Parks DELAY - Time adjustable sweep. Lo - Low speed HI- High speed much faster than my original motor. More info pics here: http://www.chevelles.com/forum/ultimatebb.php/topic/39/170.html Apparently you can use an early 80's truck setup also. I would recommend the edelbrock style for a street driven car. They are very well mannered and easy to tune. I've personally never had good luck with Holly's. They are more the racers choice and like to be tampered with from what I have seen. If you want a good mannered carb that doesn't require a lot of tweeking go with the Edelbrock. If you're looking for that extra .10th in the quarter go with the Holly of BG. I would'nt go any bigger than 750 on your engine. A 650 would spin it to 6,000 with no problem. I have a modified 283 which is bored, 2.02 intake valves, ported, .454 lift cam and I have run a 750 on it fine. I currently am running a 600 and it seems to run well up 6,000 with that. I'm sure a 650 would do fine on a 327. It's only a function of your CID, max engine rpm and volumetric efficiency which is probably 90% for a modified engine. Here is a link to an article on carb sizing formulas http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/56919/. Good luck. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 1/13/2005 11:59 AM To: Chevelle-list@chevelles.net Chevelle-list@chevelles.net Subject: Chevelle-list Digest, Vol 18, Issue 21 Send Chevelle-list mailing list submissions to Chevelle-list@chevelles.net To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://chevelles.net/mailman/listinfo/chevelle-list_chevelles.net or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can reach the person managing the list at [EMAIL PROTECTED] When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than Re: Contents of Chevelle-list digest...

Many moons ago, while living in Memphis TN..I had a turbo charged Mustang...I know this is a Chevelle area...And I do love my 73 454 Chevelle. The point is, we had a major ice storm which is normal for Memphis in February. Well. my 5 year old son took a claw hammer and commences to rake the ice off of the whole car. Days later..I was giving the Wife a hard time about where in the heck she was parking in the shopping centers. There were about 9000 scratch marks on our new car!! My son carefully whispered in my Wife's ear, he was only trying to help and it was his fault!! He was only five and did tell the truth...What can you do but laugh!!! Some people will believe anything just because it is written in a newspaper. It's a shame so many Americans are unwilling to think for themselves. We will all be in a sorry state if Kerry is elected. Would you like for your son to marry another man? He would not only be able to, but would also be encouraged to by the laws the Dems will push for. Nuff said that has to be the stupidist thing i've read in this forum! both sides are against same sex marriages dumbass. kerry's side is just for letting them have equal benefits when they have been in a long standing relationship. i for one dont like either one but when it comes down to it i wont let bush send more of my friends over to iraq and die for his bullshit. iraq was no more a threat to us then mexico is now. the only weapon they had that could carry a decent warhead was a scud that could only travel 500 miles at most. kerry will not get rid of our old cars, and he will not ban guns like all the rednecked nra members would like to try and make you believe. now this is not the place to be posting politics but when you spew shit like that i have to respond. Dale,Gene here I have a friend who i s big into BMW's.He races them and owns three of them.He told me more than likely it is for your tire pressure set for the computer to reference your tire pressure. You air your tires up to your the pressure you want, turn on the ignition switch and then press and depress that switch and your computer references that setting and as the wheels rotate the computer can read the rotation of the tires. If one starts to loose air a transducer to the wheel sends the information to the computer and it can tell by the tire size that you are loosing air by comparing the diameter to the other tires. That's what he told me and I hope I told you right.I am at work now and he said he would bring me his manual to verify that he is right.Hope this helps, more info to come if you want it.Later Gene (69 ELKY) From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Chevelle-list Digest, Vol 14, Issue 24 Date: 20 Sep 2004 12:00:13 -0700 Send Chevelle-list mailing list submissions to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://chevelles.net/mailman/listinfo/chevelle-list_chevelles.net or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can reach the person managing the list at [EMAIL PROTECTED] When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than Re: Contents of Chevelle-list digest... for a blazer the housings are leaf springs i believe. so the pumpkin hook up would probally be totally different and not have the ears on top. not 100% on this but from the leaf spring rears i've seen before this seems correct. you would still be able to use all the guts of the 12bolts though barring anything is bent up. guess it depends on how orginal you want it to look. for someone thats a good welder i'm sure they could modify them to work. This would make more sense with astock Malibu 283/PG combo. My 66 Malibu came with 283/195HP, PG, and 10 bolt open 3.08 "CA" rear. In this case, you wouldn't even have to change out the ring and pinion to the 2.73s you have as 3.08s are a good cruzin gear.Do you know for sure that the rearis a posi? Re: [Chevelle-list] Re: Chevelle-list Digest, Vol 5, Issue 43
I wish Kurt! Actually it is at my parent's place since I live in an apartment with no garages. I had two guys lined up to store it for me as usual, but they both bricked on me. Rather irritating. But the car gets a couple floor patches in the spring and the dispite the pics it has a few bubbles in the lower quarters and one on the passenger door... so she isn't mint (I would never want to subject a mint SS or even a mint/clean chevelle to the abuse I put her through on the track. Body panels would never stay 100% straitght). So I figured one winter outside would be ok. Plus the good thing is I can work on it easier this way :) Mikey - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, December 24, 2003 9:02 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Chevelle-list] Re: Chevelle-list Digest, Vol 5, Issue 43 In a message dated 12/23/03 1:00:33 PM Eastern Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: http://www.mnracing.org/modules/coppermine/albums/userpics/winterwork.jpg If that is outside, WHAT IS IN THE GARAGE?!?!?!
