Re: [Chevelle-list] (no subject)
No, I've never tried an anodizing kit, I did use an anodizing remover (BlueLightning Brand) with success. 10-15 years ago I polished the lower trim on my elky, and the polish job was pretty good, but not great. To protect it, I spray the pieces with a clear coat product from Eastwood. The look lasted for a bit, but at this point needs to be redone. I am currently trying to find time to strip and paint the Elky and when it comes time for the trim I'll need to make a decision about which way to go, either D-I-Y or let a pro do it. Cost will definitely be a factor. For the hood trim, I'm assuming its Pot Metal, check with Superior Plating or Superior Chrome out of Houston. I left the 2 forward corner trim pieces from the bed with them this past weekend. Their estimate at the swap meet was reasonable compared to repro trim and I know that they fit. As for the bumper $400 does not seem too far out of line for a show finish.Check with TriCity (I think that is the name) out of Tennesse, they come highly recommended in the chevelletech forums. Again, with original you know that there should not be fitment issues. I know that there are people on this list who know a lot more about this than I so hopefully someone else will check-in. Re: [Chevelle-list] (no subject)
It could be that no vendors are advertising it or even offering it; maybe because Windows Virtual PC no longer requires a hardware enabled CPU to run in XP or 32-bit mode as Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 did - apparently two different products. 64-bit is pretty much becoming the standard for new PCs and CPUs. I bought Windows 7 Pro a few months ago and it comes with both 32- and 64-bit DVDs. I installed the 64-bit version initially. That's when I discovered you needed a CPU with hardware virtualization to run 32-bit programs with Virtual PC 2007. So, I reloaded the drive with the 32-bit version so I could run my old software. Now that Windows Virtual PC is not suppose to be hardware dependant I may reinstall the 64-bit version and test it. On the MS website they still show 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows Home Premium for sale. In either case I'm sure you need the Pro version to run Windows Virtual PC as I just tried to download the software to my laptop (with 64-bit home version) and got a dialog box saying I needed the Pro version to run it. Re: [Chevelle-list] (no subject)
' The best deal for packages under 1 pound is USPS Priority Mail at $4.60 to anywhere in the U.S. in 2-3 business days. However, for the shipper it is often less convenient to ship USPS. That rate does not include tracking or the automatic $100 insurance that you get w/ UPS/FedEx, and it often requires sending somebody to stand in line at the post office, and of course an employee's time costs money John I know that the PO now has carrier pickup you can buy print the postage online. I haven't used it myself so it may not be as convenient as the commercials my carrier says it is. www.usps.com But no matter who you are buying from/shipping with, it stinks to pay more for shipping handling than the item cost you. I almost always wait to consolidate my order OR go looking for more to buy to make it worthwhile. Re: [Chevelle-list] (no subject)
I have not checked into the pickup situation either. Priority Mail is pretty convenient for small stuff, especially with the new flat rate boxes. Like you said, anything you can fit into that box goes for that rate (presumably, and as long as it's legal). For bigger items though I find that FedEx Ground has better rates than UPS, but I don't have a UPS account or any discount with them, so I guess I get the tourist rate with them. I have a package place about a block and a half away that I just drop stuff off at. I put my own label on it and FedEx picks it up there. Don't forget about the new USPS 13-ounce rule (any package over 13 ounces has to be taken to the customer counter at the post office). I don't know how it affects pickups. I wonder if that's nationwide or just here because we have public street mailboxes for outgoing mail... Quoting Dave Corgill [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Yep, I use USPS, print my labels they pick it up. Re: [Chevelle-list] (no subject)
I don't know about UPS but with FedEx, Ground (to a business) is cheaper than Home Delivery (to a residence). Even a local (next county) package less than one pound costs about $8.50 - $9.00 for Home Delivery, maybe $5 to $6 Ground. Having said that, I usually find FedEx Home Delivery to be less expensive than UPS Ground. Of course this also depends on the business and what deal they have with their shipper. Presumably OPGi is in a position to negotiate a good rate. The best deal for packages under 1 pound is USPS Priority Mail at $4.60 to anywhere in the U.S. in 2-3 business days. However, for the shipper it is often less convenient to ship USPS. Still, $22 - $24 seems exorbitant for shipping a door latch, assuming you live in the continental US. Re: [Chevelle-list] (no subject)
Residential deliveries with UPS are always a dollar and some change higher than commercial addresses. The other thing I forgot to add in is that some companies, particularly OPG, like to base their shipping charges on dollar value. UPS packages are automatically insured up to $99, anything after that is a charge of about 75 cents per $100 of value. They also like to rape you for items going oversize. I can say that oversize charges are not $10 per piece, more like $2. To be honest I do not remember any of the restoration companies having parts specifically for 4 door models. A lot of the parts from the 2 doors will be interchangeable with the four door. C.A.R.S., Inc. might be a good one to look up and then phone and talk to, if they can't help you they may be able to put you in the right direction. Good luck. Hope this helps. I remember a guy in high school who had a '55 Caddy hearse. He was a drummer in a rock band and it was his ride. I think, on a good day, he got around 9 miles to the gal mileage, but gas was 35 cents a gal so it wasn't a issue. His folks were well off anyway. He also drove a '65/'66 XKE Jaguar. While polishing my chrome today on my 69 Chevelle, I accidentally pushed too hard and bent the trim piece on the top portion of the windshield. Re: [Chevelle-list] (no subject)
I had mine straightened and polished a few years ago. You could try looking locally for someone specializing in stainless steel trim. If you don't have any luck, I have seen some shops recommended on Team Chevelle, but you would them have to deal with shipping. -Matt At 11:17 PM 4/30/2007, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: While polishing my chrome today on my 69 Chevelle, I accidentally pushed too hard and bent the trim piece on the top portion of the windshield. Joe, That is a very common piece. I believe it is the same for 68 - 72 Chevelles. I've taken dents out of stainless trim that looked pretty bad in the past. It just takes some patience and time. #1 I disconnected the ground I added and the light is still on #2 I disconnected the wire to the sending unit and the light is still on #3 I did a continuity check on the blue wire that goes to the sending unit, no signal. ALL WITH KEY ON If I remove the ground I added the temp and fuel gauge will not work. If you have any more suggestions please send them. I am at a loss at this point and I am ready to just remove the bulb so I can enjoy the car. Thanks again for all your help! I know you do not want to hear this- guy has owned since high school (in his fiftys) Always in garage, driven few times a yr- uncut except for fenderwell headers. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mike Holleman Sent: Monday, March 12, 2007 5:38 PM To: The Chevelle Mailing List Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Off subject of chevelles Joe, That model is a worthless piece of junk. Nobody wants a 66 Nova SS w/L79 option. Give me the info on where it is and I'll get it out of the way so noone get's burned. 13,000 original miles? If it's not been sitting out in the weather for several years should be worth a wad. I have a customer that has one with 26,000 miles in mint condition. I would price his in the high fifties. Ryan- Glad that sway bar worked out for you. It’s probably going to be a couple of years before I have the funds to do the tranny, unless you want to give me 3K for my Muncie. I would really be interested in it. The rear sway bar you sold me is mounted and looking awesome! Thanks again for that. I am leaning towards using the 3.31's because I am looking more for a good driver than something to really romp on. I think those gears would get me where I want to be. let me know when you are thinking about changing your tranny! Ryan -- No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. My present frame off is my 69 convertible SS, but 4 years ago I did a complete restoration on a Plymouth Superbird. For the last year I have been trying to get in touch with Richard Petty who of course made the car famous in nascar in 1970. It finally happened and that day was today. I met up with him at his museum, and he was a pleasant and great person, of course he had the big cowboy hat, dark sunglasses and cowboy boots, typical Petty, he spoke to me about his early racing years, and he signed my dash. Now my car is complete. I visited the museum while I was there, lots of great stuff. What a good day this was, thank you guys for letting me share this with the group..
