Sprint Internet Backbone and VoIP? [7:70665]
Is anyone using the Sprint Internet backbone for VoIP? If so how is it working and are you running the VoIP just in the states or outside of the states? RE: BSCI 640-901 or 643-801??? [7:70658]
Hi, I took 643-801 recently and there are minor additions - like IPV6, RIPv2, NAT and such like things. I also took 640-603 (BSCN) in September last year. I would say: take 640-901 - unless you want to save some $75.00 for taking the Beta. Reason: you will know immediately the result and move on, rather than waiting 8 to 12 weeks for the Beta result. Hope this helps. Thanks, Having to wait for the results wasn't something I had considered. I guess I will go ahead and take the 901 test. I also don't want to test on the Ipv6 stuff yet either. Thanks for the heads up. I just looked over the test description again and the only thing they say is advanced IP addressing. if they are testing on IPv6 I think they need to let you know that. I guess that's why it's a BETA. By the way, How did you do? RE: BSCI 640-901 or 643-801??? [7:70658]
I'll correct myself before anyone else does. In the design portion of the test description, they list IPV6. I also didn't know that RIPv2 was on the test. I took the BSCI v1.2 class last year and have done all my studying based on the topics that were covered in that course. once again, GROUPSTUDY saves my butt. I just printed out the v2.0 test requirements to make sure I brush up on everything. Wireless problem [7:70674]
Hello all. Our office has a T1 connection to the internet that my boss wants to share with some of the other offices in our building (distances under 300').One office will have only 1 pc and the other will have 4.I figured wireless would be the easiest way to go since runing cable from our equipment to these offices would be a nitemare. I picked up an 802.11b (Linksys) access point and patched it through to my switch, set the SSID,and derived a wep key.The office with 4 devices in an attempt to save money bought an 802.11b (Linksys) access point as well.I provided their admin with all pertinent information (SSID,WEP key,IP\mask)and the access points do not seem to associate. Now I am by no means well versed in wireless but I assumed that as long as the SSID,WEP keys, and IP information was correct it would work.Im not sure what my problem is here and Im at a loss. Sorry forgot to mention some info that may be relevant. The office with 4 devices has their access point patched through into a hub that all 4 devices also connect to. VoIP over Aironet Wireless [7:70679]
Hi Guys, I have two sites connected with Aironet Wireless Bridges. We have implemented VoIP between these sites over this wireless link.Considering the Bandwidth of 11 Mbps for 802.11b , it should not have been a problem for a few IP phones.Even if we consider the throughput of the Wireless link actually is close to 4.5 Mbps, the bandwidth should be sufficient for a few g729 calls or even a few g711 calls, but to contrary the call quality is not good. Re: Cisco Beta exams [7:70659]
To be honest, I don't like them :-( I took few beta exams and never got to pass any of them. When I went for the final version once available, I had no problems clearing any of them. And I don't think the problem was with my preparations either. The few exams I took were rather poorly structured, with many questions having multiple right answers. Literally, you could have a question and 4 answers, with 2 of the answers being exactly the same, how do they score that beats me. So, my advice, if you get it for free, go ahead and test yourself but if you have to pay anything, save yourself the few bucks and time and prepare for the final thing. Rodrigo Baldez wrote in message news:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Just a curiosity.. What are the most diferences between the normal cisco exams and the temporary beta ones? On the page for BEFW11S4, which is a Wireless Access Point router, you can click on Where it fits into my network. It doesn't connect to other APs, just clients. The same with the WRT54G, as well as the WAP55G - clients only. A new Linksys, the WET54G is a bridge which means that you use 2 just like you already tried. RE: Wireless problem [7:70674]
This is correct. With almost all wireless implementations, you cannot connect an AP to an AP. You have to connect an AP -- Client or AP -- Bridge. The bridge would then attach to the hub. 7120-4T1 router [7:70688]
My 7120 router suddenly is not working. I can't even console to it. I was able to console first time, and the error message appeared, CAN'T CONNECT CABLE/CONNECTOR FE0/0, it appeared three times and went to start decompressing self image, and then the same message appeared again, and it hung. Nothing happened for 5 minutes so I decided to reboot again, and now I can't even Console. Nothing comes up when I console to it. I tried recreating new HyperTerminal Sessions, changed my speed settings, and even tried hit control-C few times by powering down and up to to see if it even can go to rommode. No luck. It's so frustrating to not get into a console since it is the first layer of troubleshooting. Thanks ___ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web! It's nice to know that at least one business out there doesn't hide behind an HR group that isn't prepared to perform the screening process properly and/or fairly. Ah, but let's not give him more credit than he's due. Read my reply to him. Essentially, while Robert's practices are commendable, he left out a very important piece of information - namely out of all the original candidates who submitted resumes, how exactly did he figure out who was to be granted an interview? Obviously he used some sort of a screening process - # years of experience, ccie status (or lack thereof), degree (or lack therefore), etc. But it's obvious that he used something because it is simply impossible to grant an interview to absolutely everybody who submits a resume. And whatever screening process he used to whittle the numbers down to something manageable is inherently imperfect.Perhaps Robert's screen is better than ones used by HR departments around the world, but let's not kid ourselves here - it wasn't perfect. No matter what screen you do, you run the risk of throwing what may turn out to be your best candidate. And that's really the bottom line. While we would all obviously prefer not to be treated like some number, the fact is, no company is really prepared to properly investigate every single candidate thorougly. Every candidate is going to make some sweeping generalizations that while they may not be totally fair, are done in the name of economic efficiency. Degree'd people tend to be more productive than non-degree'd people. That doesn't mean that every single non-degree'd person is worse than every single degree'd person, but the general rule holds enough times that companies can and will use it as a screen. Things like that. Re: Wireless problem [7:70674]
some things to consider. I admire your boss' generosity but let strangers onto your network like this? well - maybe you got nothing worth protecting anyway;- more thoughts in line below: Don Kanicki wrote in message news:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello all. Our office has a T1 connection to the internet that my boss wants to share with some of the other offices in our building (distances under 300'). 300 feet but how many cement floors / ceilings? how many walls? you really need to do a site survey to see if you really can get wireless connection between the other offices any your own. use a laptop and the Lynksys software. Works nice. I just put in a Lynksys here at home. My wife and kids get great reception in the living room and various bedrooms, and even on the back deck. ( the AP is in the living room ) but I get jack here in my home office / study, and I am not more than 100 feet away ( and a couple of walls ) as the crow flies, so to speak. there is anopther room in the house where I can get real slow link if I am sitting on the floor, but if I stand up I get 54 mbs ( I bought the wireless G, as you can tell.) One office will have only 1 pc and the other will have 4.I figured wireless would be the easiest way to go since runing cable from our equipment to these offices would be a nitemare. An AP is for communication to end stations. Bridges talk to other bridges. You want to make you new friends part of your own network? Bridge, assign them IP's from your network, and go for it. But I gotta say, you ( and your boss ) need to do a little bit of thinking. There are many ways to share the internet connection without opening up your internal network to the risk present by allowing strangers to use your connections. Just a thought You Others -- -- Linksys Bridge-Linksys Bridge-their network | Router---internet | internal network You would need one pair of bridges for each external network good luck Any help apreciated Don K. RE: BSCI 640-901 or 643-801??? [7:70658]
Hi, The new aspects of the exam (like IPv6, RIPv2, NAT, etc) seemed basic - probably because I was well prepared. The only reason you may want to do 640-901 has to do with waiting for more than 8 weeks; should one fail, it means one has to re-study again. That does not sound so good for me, considering that the other exam is of the same level and you know the result and plan your new move there and then. Good Luck; I guess in both exams, you have to know IS-IS, OSPF, BGP very well - including how to configure them :) Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=70690t=70658 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Craig Columbus wrote: passing from October 2002 to present. The most recent number I've seen is 11757. Which, averages about 170 people per month. Extrapolating to October, the number of people passing from Oct 2002 to Oct 2003 should turn out to be around 2044. My conclusion then, is that since the labs stay booked, and since the expected doubling of the people passing has not occurred, that the new lab is somewhat more difficult than the old lab. Therefore, the difficulty barrier was increased to partially, but not fully, counter the effects of lowering the quantity barrier (number of lab seats). Had the difficulty been raised enough to fully counter the quantity barrier, the number of those passing would have been held constant. Actually, I believe your numerical analysis is somewhat incomplete. At the same time that Cisco made the change from 2 days to 1, Cisco also (quietly) eliminated weekend testing. Also, Cisco has lately banked some test locations (i.e. Halifax). Finally, anecdotally I've been hearing that the number of empty seats in any particular location seems to be higher than it was in the past. For all these factors, I therefore don't think that there has been a true doubling of seats. Re: Wireless problem [7:70674]
Thanks for the responces. All of our machines are used for email\web with the exception of the accounting pc which is not on the network.Im going to look into some kind of software firewall for our network and I can only assume the other offices will do the same. All offices are on the same floor and next to each other. The largest of the two is the one with the 4 pcs and the distance between their AP and ours is less than 50' separated by 2 standard walls (no concrete or block). Our office is all ethernet to a switch which our AP and router connect to.The office with 4 machines is all ethernet to a hub which their AP connects to.and the other office with 1 pc is a stand alone box that will connect via wireless nic. I wasnt thrilled about this idea from the word go but my boss sees this as a way to cover some of the cost of the circuit as hes charging them a monthly fee. If I have both APs act as bridges to link the larger office will the small single pc office still be able to connect or would that require a separate AP? TIA Don K. Re: Cisco Beta exams [7:70659]
Hi, I agree. I think Beta exams are just for testing errors in the exams - from the comments we make. Like I had a lot of trouble with BGP Beta - because the drag and drop mechanism was not good; you drag, but as you drop, it comes out - I despised that aspect because I was meeting it very frequently. Anyway, do the real exam when it is out.
