BGP Table and SNMP [7:75016]

2003-09-08 Thread Alejandro Acosta
Hi all,
I wonder if any of you have succesfully retrieved the BGP table from a
Cisco router using SNMP?. I read a lot of documents and tried a lot of
MIBs/OID without any success. I used the MIB navigation tool at the Cisco
TAC but I did not find something really useful. I only could read the
peerings, uptime of the BGP session and few more thing. By the moment I
think it should be done using snmpwalk, am I right?
FYI, I do have the full routing table in one of my routers (IOS 12.2.6)

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank

Alejandro Acosta

Accounting. Pay-per-use service [7:72690]

2003-07-21 Thread Alejandro Acosta
Hello,
I wanted to hear some suggestions from you in this case:

My company is thinking to add an Internet product where we can charge
the customer regarding the bandwidth usage, something like "pay per
use". Do you have any experience about it?. I would like to hear some
recommendations like what software you are using, or if this products is
just a headache and does not worth the time for implementing it.
I have used Netflow just for traffic analysis, never for accounting,
can I do this using netflow or there are other software/methods?

Thanks

Alejandro Acosta,-

Re: 802.1Q trunking on 2500?? [7:56690]

2002-11-02 Thread Alejandro Acosta A
Hello,
Well, the link provided below is really good, I didn4t know it.
However, I do have a question: I searched for ISL feature with the router
1750 selected, and it was found, then I repeated the search selecting the
router 1751 (since 1750 is discontinued) and it looks there is not ISL
support avalaible for this model (there is only 802.1q support). Don4t you
think there is probably an error?.
Which is the smallest router than can support ISL or 802.1q?

Thanks

BGP Question [7:38858]

2002-03-19 Thread Alejandro Acosta

Hi all,
I am having a BGP problem, and I am not sure how to solve it. Like Jeff
Doyle's book says: BGP is not a difficult problem, the problem is the
scenario. This is the scenario that I have:

   ---
   | I N T E R N E T |
   ---
   |Link A |Link B
   ||
--- Link E ---
| AS 1 | -- | AS 3 |

   |Link C | Link D
   | |

   | I am here|

When all links are up everything works fine.

The problem is: When Link "B" goes down, there is not any traffic on Link D.
In this case Link C gets full and my customer start to call me!. I know it
is because there is one more AS hop to reach AS 1, one of the BGP metrics is
the amount of AS hops between links. I can manually add one or two prepends
for AS 3 and the traffic goes ok, I am taking advantage of Link E

My question is: Is there any way that this can be done automaticly?, do I
have to use BGP communities?

Thanks in advanced, any approach is appreciated.

Why not just use floating static routes? With only one active exit
point, I
don't see the reason for burdening your router with the BGP routing
table,
unless you are just receiving aggregates from your provider. Even then
the
floating static's should work.

We said ICMP error messages shouldn't be broadcast. ICMP is mostly used
to
report a problem. Ping is the exception and yes you can send a ping to a

broadcast address. It's not a nice thing to do, but that doesn't stop
people! ;-)

Here's a list of ICMP messages:

ICMP Types and Codes
TypeCodeMeaning

8 0 Echo (ping)
0 0 Echo reply (ping reply)
3 x Destination unreachable (generic category)
3 0 Network unreachable
3 1 Host unreachable
3 2 Protocol unreachable
3 3 Port unreachable
3 4 Fragmentation was needed and the don't fragment (DF) bit

was set
3 5 Source route failed
3 13 Packet administratively prohibited
4 0 Source quench
11 x Time exceeded (generic category)
11 0 Time-to-live (TTL) exceeded
11 1 Fragment reassembly time exceeded

Have you got a sniffer to trace the error ?

It would be interesting to see the packet in question
since ICMP has 20 ish different error codes.

The ICMP error should not be broadcast either, it
should be unicast back to the originator of the
erroring device. Off the top of my head I cannot think
of a purpose for b/cast ICMP. I'll have a dig around
in the RFC to confirm.

Re: BGP and ip load-sharing [7:28960]

2001-12-13 Thread Alejandro Acosta

Hello,
  Thanks for answering me.
I am using BGP because we have 2 Internet access and my customer
has 2 providers too. Then, we have to use BGP

This is the BGP configuration

neighbor xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx description eBGP with Mycustomer
 neighbor xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ebgp-multihop 2
 neighbor xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx password 7 -
 neighbor xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx update-source Loopback1
 neighbor xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx version 4
 neighbor xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx maximum-prefix 8

I don't know why the packets that I am sending to my customer are
not simetric in both links. However, the customer sends to me almost
the same amount of traffic in both interfaces

Thanks

Alejandro

BGP and ip load-sharing [7:28960]

2001-12-12 Thread Alejandro Acosta

Hi All,
This is my first message in the list.
I am running a BGP session with a customer. It has 2 serial links with us
(Each link of 2 Mbps). The customer and me have selected per-packet sharing
in order to balanced the link.
In this moment, the traffic that comes from the customer is very simetric
in both links, however, the traffic that is sent to the customer from us is
not simetric. As far as I know (if I am not wrong), if we are using load
balacing per-packet, the incoming and outgoing traffic should be very very
similar, right?. Why only the incoming traffic is simetric in this moment.

This is the configuration for both interfaces in my router:

interface Serial2/0
 description Link 1
 bandwidth 2048
 ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
 no ip directed-broadcast
 ip load-sharing per-packet
 no ip mroute-cache
 load-interval 30
 no cdp enable
 hold-queue 1024 out
!

interface Serial2/4
 description Link number 2
 bandwidth 2048
 ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
 no ip directed-broadcast
 ip load-sharing per-packet
 no ip mroute-cache
 load-interval 30
 no fair-queue
 no cdp enable

Any ideas?

Thanks

Alejandro Acosta

P.D. I am using IOS 12.0(7)T
