Does anybody know of any good place to purchase a home lab to study for the
ccnp series of tests? Any information would be much appreciated.

I'm going to have to say that the answer to that is: The one that transmitts
first! The question never said that they were transmitting at the same time
and/or on the same physical segment.

Re: WHIZZ KIDS WHO HAVE THE CCIE number

2000-10-18 Thread Bob Edmonds

I got my CCNA in July and I will be turning 19 on October 31, 2000. I don't
feel that I missed out one bit on my child hood. I've been to more parties
than I care to remember and had laughs that I wish I could remember. I got
started in A+ when I was 16 and it appealed to me. It was interesting and
made me look smart when I could fix others computers. I then began to
wander about the internet and how it work. When I turned 17 I enrolled in
the Cisco Network Academey. I then fell in love with networking! I did a
review for ciscopress' Exam Gear software, and the erata that you see on
their page is all mine (many more minor mistakes)! They paid me well for
it, I requested no money but just free books. I got the CCNP Library 1.0,
BCMSN, (old) ACRC, CCDA, DCN, and CID(9 books in all). And when the box of
books came I found a check for $500.00 inside as well (nice compensation).

Now I'm working toward my CCNP along with a full course load here at the
University of Toledo, where I'm studying Computer Science and Engineering
Technology. Well all I'm saying is that it interests me and I still have
time for a girlfriend and other social activities.

Ken,

I tried the link but it seems that it's broken... Now that I know I can
do it, I think it'd be cool to try! I don't have CCO access so where do you
think I could go to research the subject? Is there any Ciscopress books
that would cover the topic?

Thanks in advance,

Remote access [7:2607]

I was wondering how I could configure my 2521 with 4 serial, two of which
are (A/S), to connect to the internet via a modem? I would like to know
what type of modem to buy, what type of cables/connectors will be needed to
connect the modem to the (A/S) serial ports. I searched for other modems
but I can never seem to find anything, that I "know" would be able to hook
into my router. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well that would be me. It's just a simple home lab and I happen to have a

as to not cause them any problems, that way I would also be able to telnet

Memory upgrade: Simple concerns [7:8944]

2001-06-18 Thread Bob Edmonds

Hi all,

I just purchased 8MB of Flash for a 2501, I was wondering how one would go
about installing it? Is it mere open the router and plug&chug? I also am
going to load a new IOS on it, so should I erease the old IOS and then copy
from the image from the tftp server to the router? Thanks!!!

Re: I think I was right??? (PPP question)

2000-07-13 Thread Bob Edmonds

If you look on page 105 of the BCRAN book it says that PPP uses NCP to
configure Layer 3 protocols not necessarily the Layer 3 address. IPCP is
the NCP used to establish and configure the IP protocol. But on the other
side why would you use an NCP to have the PPP session support the protocol
and not the individual station address?

Re: 2620 keeps rebooting on and on and ....!!!

2000-07-22 Thread Bob Edmonds

I had the same problem with one of my 2502s, I just called tech support and
they asked me to open the router up and re-seat some cards. I'm sure if you
call them they will tell you to do the same.

Good luck,

Studying info and help?

2000-07-26 Thread Bob Edmonds

Hi all,

I recently passed my CCNA exam with a score of 916 and now I'm planning on
going for CCNP 2.0. I was wondering if anybody knew of a good study group
in the Toledo, Ohio area. I will be attending school there in about 3 weeks
and would like to join a group of fellow Cisco studiers! If anyone has any
info it would be a great help.

Thanks in advance

Bob

Re: Studying info and help?

2000-07-27 Thread Bob Edmonds

It is true that I started studying Cisco related material at the age of 16,
at my high school they offered a course that basically encompassed the CCNA
course with a little bit more in-depth information. But when I said school
I ment that I'm going to the University of Toledo I am now 18 which is the
usual age that Americans start attending college, I know that in the UK the
usual age for college is 16 so maybe it was a cultural thing.

Conflicting answers

2000-08-02 Thread Bob Edmonds

I have an html file with some CCNA study notes on it and it describes one
aspect of the Data-link layer as so:

***Data Link
Layer*

Provides Flow control -- Flow control involves moderating the transmission
of data so that the receiving device is not overwhelmed with more traffic
than it can handle at one time.

*
But while I was taking a CCIE practice test at cisco.com I encountered this
question and answer to a question:

Q: Some disadvantages of bridging versus routing are: (more than one answer)

A. Bridges cannot provide any form of flow control.
B. Bridges cannot provide congestive feedback information to end nodes.
C. Bridges offer no form of filtering.
D. Bridges are more difficult to administer/maintain than routers.
E. Bridges create more overhead traffic than routers.

Answer = A&B. Flow Control and Congestive Feedback are functions of the
Network layer. As bridges operate at the Data Link layer, these
responsibilities fall to the end stations in a bridged environment.

So my questions is which layer provides flow control?

Questions on CCNP exams

2000-07-10 Thread Bob Edmonds

I was enrolled in the cisco networking academy for 2 years at my highschool
and have just graduated this year. While in the academy I was using a CCNA
practice exam program that ciscopress put out. While using this program I
noticed many errors, you know wrong questions/answers. I sent and email to
ciscopress notifying them of this problem, and they responed by asking me to
do a review of the 850 questions and let them know which ones were bad, and
in return they said that they would pay me. I wrote them back saying that I
would gladly do the review and as far as payment went all I wanted was some
free books. The executive editor of ciscopress wrote back saying just send
me a list of the books you want and you'll have them. I sent a list that
consisted of 9 books and sure enough, once I completed the review, he sent
me the books as well as a check (the check was much unexpected and much
appreciated!!!).
Now begins the questions. I've read that the CCNP exams' format has
been changed and new material will be covered in order to reach the level of
CCNP. I was wondering if the books that I got: which are the CCNP
preperation library, BCMSN, ACRC (Laura Chappell), as well as DCN (for the
CCDA), CCDA, and the CID book: will these books be "outdated" due to the
change? And if so, what will I need to supplement this change in the exams?
Basically what I'm asking is , where can I get the knowlege need to pass the
exams?
I've been reading the posts on this news group for a 2 days now and it
seems to me that this place is awesome!!! Everyone here is soo helpful and
knowlegable of cisco equipment. Ohhh, and by the way I just passed the CCNA
exam on July 8th, I only whish I would have found this group before I did.
I found it the night before the test and spent hours reading the posts.
Well this is getting rather lengthy so I'll be stopping now. Any
information be helpful.

Thank you,

Bob
