RES: fast switching v.s. cef switching [7:71815]

2003-07-03 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada
Besides, load balance in CEF considers origin/destination , whereas Fast
Switching only makes load balance by destination .
Of course, there is per-packet in both , also.

RES: VLAN Tagging on Cat 3550 [7:71703]

2003-07-01 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada
Vlan tagging is commonly called by Cisco as trunks.
Have you ever configured trunks as ISL ou 802.1q ?
Actually the name vlan tagging makes more sense on non Cisco equipment,
where only exists 802.1q .
ISL doesn't do tag as 802.1q , but reencapsulates the packet with a new
header .

The key point in this case is to have OSPF advertising the real subnet,
instead of /32 address.
In order to achieve it , add ip ospf network ponit-to-pont under interface
config.

I also use Checkpoint Securemote behind my home router doing NAT. No problem
.
Are you using ISAKMP or FWZ ?
FWZ doesn't work behind nat .

RES: Force OSPF DR/BDR Election [7:70139]

2003-06-05 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada
If you change OSPF priority, it will only take effect in the next ellection
.
If the ellection is already done , clear process is needed , or, at least ,
remove current DR and BDR from network .

RES: RES: Help with router config [7:69612]

2003-05-29 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada
Karyn ,

Regarding this problem , for sure the other end must know how to get back
the packets to your network where your host
muse is ( maybe 198.182.157.0).

Regarding the other one , ask them to issue a trace form their router to the
network 198.182.157.0 and to 192.168.1.2 .
Ask for the results, and post it , if your problem is still unresolved.

RES: Help with router config [7:69612]

2003-05-29 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada
Actually , this /32 route is correct .

It is default, when you have a PPP link .
In order to disable it, you'll need to do a no peer neighbor-route , under
interface config .

Interface seems to be up , IPCP as well . Do you have any connectivity
problem , besides this "fake" route problem ?

RES: CCNP Sw question [7:69683]

2003-05-29 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada
Roseli,

For sure, native vlans need to match , no matter SW revision, product,
vendor , whatever .
If not , imagine vlan 2 native in side A and 3 in side B . SIde A won't
tag vlan 2 frames, and side B won't tag vlan 3 frames .

Trunk will come up, but both vlans won't work properly .

Regarding the other question , as far as I know, set trunk desirable works
only between two switches in same VTP domain.
set trunk on should always works , not sure about negotiate and nonegotiate
.

RE: OSPF authentication question. [7:18813]

2001-09-09 Thread Henrique Issamu terada

Well, I got something like this while playing with tacacs+ AAA .

Cat 6509 MSFC and Tacacs+ server weren't talk to each other . Configuration
looked good , the key was correct , but wasn't working . Besides , the 7200
router had the same tacacs+ config and was working .

On MSFC I had to remove the tacacs+ key and enter it again . My guess is
that maybe I had typed the space bar after the key ,and the router
recognized it as part of key . I removed , typed the tacacs+ key , and
pressed enter . This worked .

Hope this helps ,

Terada

Re: HSRP with 4 MSFC's....Best practice [7:15734]

Tony

What do you think about convert the boxes to Native IOS ?
I personally like this mode , since the switch runs L2/L3 on same software .
Did HSRP with them , working fine until now . Besides , I think it is
easier to customer to maintain by himself, since he doesn't need to care
about 4 MSFCs running HSRP , 4 OSPF equal-cost paths , etc .

If your tftp server is not at same network of your
router , you can use ip default-gateway, in order to reach the TFTP server. So,
you'll be able to do the download.

Re: Radius !!

2000-09-19 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada

Change your config-register to 0x2142 in rommon mode , then router will boot
without configuration.
Type enable, and then , type config memory in order to reload the
configuration in NVRAM into RAM.

Bridge and flow control

2000-08-30 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada

Hi group

>From Cisco Website, there are sample questions for CCIE Qualification Exam.
One of these questions is described below.
I couldn't understand when the answer says :

"Bridges cannot provide any form of flow control".
Flow control is a function of Network Layer.

Is this not a function of Data Link Layer , or Transport layer ? Why does
the answer say Network layer ?

Can anyone explain me this ?

thanks a lot

Henrique

6) Some disadvantages of bridging versus routing are: (more than one answer)

a) Bridges cannot provide any form of flow control.

b) Bridges cannot provide congestive feedback information to end nodes.

c) Bridges offer no form of filtering.

d) Bridges are more difficult to administer/maintain than routers.

e) Bridges create more overhead traffic than routers.

Answer for Question 6
a. Bridges cannot provide any form of flow control
and
b. Bridges cannot provide congestive feedback information to end nodes

Flow Control and Congestive Feedback are functions of the Network layer. As
bridges operate at the Data Link layer, these responsibilities fall to the
end stations in a bridged environment. Most bridges do offer some filtering
capabilities, at least on MAC addresses, and they are much simpler to
administer. At first glance, it may appear that bridges create more overhead
than routers, due to the BPDU frame that is sent out every second. However,
these frames are very small compared to route advertisements sent out by
routers, which can grow to be quite large in complex networks. Also, routers
must tie Network addresses to Data Link addresses, which often creates more
overhead (Example: IP ARP).

Reference: Perlman, Interconnections, Chapter 12.

do you know if it is possible to configure different modem pools on a 3620 ?
And if so, does it matter what kind of modem module I use

use the modem-pool IOS command ?
Thanks in advance for your help, I couldn't find any docs online on this.

General question about using the debug command. If I've turned
up debug for a number of different types of events, am I guaranteed
to see these events logged in the order in which they occurr? Is it
possible that the different events don't actually get logged in
the precise order they're observed (assume all events are related to
inbound packets, on one interface, and thus are serialized)

Thanks

Hi,
I have enable dynamic nat on a 2501 and cannot take it out. It gives me an
error msg. "Pool Internet in use;Cannot redefine". "Dynamic mapping in use.
Cannot remove"

Basically, instead of specifying a legal range of addresses for the pool, I
specified the internet addresses 10.11.10.2 through 10.11.10.20.

I also have access list 1 specified for 10.11.10.0 0.0.0.255.
I have for E0 - ip nat inside and for S0 - ip nat outside

What do I do first to modify the ip nat pool Internet line to include the
legal range?

I first removed the access-list and then the nat for both s0 and e0? I still
get the error msg. I did a no ip nat and still get the error msg.?

Please advise
Thank you.

RES: AUX Port capacity in Cisco Router?

Aux 0 speed is up to 38.4Kbps, but it DOES support PPP.
It does not support PPP framing in microcode.

RES: CCIE review....

Answering just one question.

1) Who handles retransmition is Layer 4 , through TCP flow control.
I'm not sure if there is also a retransmition in HDLC, but I'm sure that
there's no one in Frame Relay , and there is in X25.

While doing a scan of my review outline, I realized
there were several points I was unclear on in my weak
areas

1)Who handles retransmission between two ethernet
hosts
over HDLC serial links if there is a line hit? Router
or hosts?

2)What are some typical reasons that a Lec could fail
to find a lecs in ATM LANE?

3)What does a star (asterisk *) next to the S mean in
a routing table?

4)How does IPX queuing work with STUN?

Any help on any of these weak areas would be
appreciated!

Hi Steve

Yes, we did it some months ago, when a customer wanted to use Service Load
Balance.
Follow exactly the steps, and also, I would suggest you to open a TAC Case ,
and keep the Cisco Engineer at phone when you do that.
We got some problems with the PCMCIA Flash card at slot 0 , and as this is
not a trivial task , we spent some hours to find when was the problem , and
complete the upgrade on 2 MSFC's.

Can I use Teraterm for remote access ?
For exemple , using my internal modem of
laptop , dial to a modem which is attached to a aux port from
router.
I can do that with Hyper Terminal , but I did not
find this option on TeraTerm.

thanks

Your IOS should be at least IP Plus.
IP only does not support NAT.

I don't think there is the squezze command in 3640.
7000 have it.
I would recommend partition flash in two , so you can erase the specified
partition that bad IOS belongs to.

For Cat 5500 console (Only for Sup III) , you should use a straight-ahead
cable. Not rollover cable.
For 6500 , I think it's rollover .

2000-06-25 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada

Hi everybody

Well, just arrived at home . I did Foundation 2.0
Beta today .
It had 232 questions , 180 minutes.
A lot of questions of BGP , OSPF (Routing part ) .
A little of multicast . NO Appletalk , no IPX .
For BCRAN ,  a lot of Cisco 700 questions ,
and dial on demand routing , and PPP. A little bit of queue questions
too.
Refering to Switching , trunk , MLS ,
spantree questions , and a little of switching hardware. No ATM LANE , no

Catalyst hardware issues.

I agree.

Not for OSPF only, but for all routing protocols .

Re: erase flash

2000-05-24 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada

In my opinion , erase some files depends of which router you are handling.
Is a 7500 , you can use the command squezze to set which files you want to
erase , then delete this marked files.
But for 3600 , I don't know how to do it. A workaround is partitioning flash
, and put one image into each partition

CiscoSecure

2000-05-24 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada

Hi everybody

I've got an AS5300 , with a fast Ethernet , and a
Ethernet interface.
When customers dial into network , they must get an
IP address different , based on its domain in the username. They will dial to
same number.
For example , if the username is [EMAIL PROTECTED], they
wil forward to Ethernet interface nw.
If their userneme is [EMAIL PROTECTED] , they will be
forwarwed to Ethernet interface nw.
There is a Cisco Secure, running under Windows NT ,
which is a Radius server.
Does anybody know how to configure Cisco Secure to
authenticates user , and assign IP address to users ?

thanks

Re: 2511 restarts with BUS Error

2000-05-15 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada

No

This is related with a software problem.
See the command show stack, and you'll see some stack traces about it.
Open a case at Cisco TAC, for help.
Otherwise, which IOS are you running ?

Re: WildCard Masks

2000-05-15 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada

Hi Robert

Actually , wildcard bits means which bits router should verify , or ignore,
when analyse an incoming or ourgoing packet.
So , if you use
access-list 1 permit 172.16.0.0 0.0.255.255
, it means that all packets with source address 172.16.0.0 should be
permitted.
If you use access-list 1 permit 172.16.0.0 0.0.15.255 , it means that
router must verify the first's 4 bits, and ignore the last four bits of the
third octet.

Best regards

Henrique
