Help with Etherchannel

2000-09-21 Thread Lonnie Paschall

I have a 2916XL that is connected to a compaq server with two NC3130 NIC
cards and is configured for Cisco Etherchannel. I placed the two contigous
ports in a port group. When I look at the switch both interfaces are up, the
switch shows that they are both in group 1 but one port is in blocking mode
while the other is forwarding. Shouldnt they both be in forwarding mode? I
am not sure if the Etherchannel is working. I have the same sort of problem
when I try to connect a 1900XL EN to the 2916 switch via etherchannel (two
bundles), one port always goes into blocking mode or shows disabled .

Thanks,

Lonnie

Re: Help with Etherchannel

2000-09-21 Thread Lonnie Paschall

The NICS I have support Etherchannel, IN fact they say they are configured
as a Etherchannel, but the switch does not seem to recognize the bundle as
STP blocks or disables one of the ports.

Re: Help with Etherchannel

2000-09-21 Thread Lonnie Paschall

I think that the Etherchannel configuration is working correctly. After
placing two ports in a port group, oneof the ports shows that STP is
"disabled" and the other shows that it is in a forwarding state. I believe
this is correct and that the switch only allows one of the ports in the
group to participate in STP. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

Thanks,

Etherchannel between 2916XL and 2924XL

2000-09-28 Thread Lonnie Paschall

I cannot seem to get an Etherchannel connection between these two
switches.The 2924 is running v12.0(5.1) and the 2916 is running v11.2(8).
When I group two ports on each switch and then connect the additional
ethernet cable the devices cannot communicate. The switches show that the
ports are up, but the devices cannot communicate over the link. I cannot
figure out the problem.

Thanks,

linking two 2924XL switches with two ports. Do I need to configure a port

EtherChannel Problem

2000-10-02 Thread Lonnie Paschall

Hello all,

I have a really wierd problem related to Etherchannel. First off I have
multiple Compaq servers using Etherchannel capable cards connecting to
2924XL switches. My backup server cannot seem to connect to my notees server
when using an Etherchannel connection. I can ping the server, but cannot map
a drive (net use..) From the backup server I can map to other servers
running Etherchannel and not. Just not to the notes server . If I
disconnect one of the Ethernet cable from my backup server.(still keeping my
etherchannel config on the switch and server) I can then connect to the
notes server fine. Plug it back in and a few minutes later, no (net use)
connectivity to the notes server again. The Notes server is not running and
Etherchannel connection and is connected to a second 2924 switch which has a
100TX connection to the switch that the backup server is connected to. One
more wrench in the equation, I have another server running the same nic
cards inan Etherchannel config, in a Etherchannel group on the same switch
as the backup server that has no problem mapping to the notes server I have
checked my config and everything is good. ports in the group set to
portfast/100/full duplex..Any Ideas??

Re: an AppleTalk question

2000-10-16 Thread Lonnie Paschall

AppleTalk uses NBP to register an NBP object name and object type within a
zone for translation from name to address. DDP takes care of assigning
socket numbers, as well as node and network numbers, to provide a unique
identification for every process running on a AppleTalk network. At least
that is my take on it. of course there are alot of other protocols involved
from the time an Appletalk device starts up to when it servicing client
requests.

Clayton is correct. You only have to take the CID exam.

Re: Clear channel question?

2000-07-25 Thread Lonnie Paschall

Clear channel is a t1 with B8ZS (Binary Eight Zero Substitution) line
coding. AMI line coding steals 1 bit from every 8 for timing. Which results
in 56Kbps instead of 64Kbps. B8ZS coding allows you to use the full DS0 rate
of 64Kbps by using the BPV's in the signal for timing. I may not be 100%
technically right but it gives you a good picture of whats going on.

Re: Citrix ICA and PIX

2000-08-30 Thread Lonnie Paschall

I think you probably need to use altaddr command on the citrix server so
that the server will respond to the client with the translated address. It
may also be that the PIX is not letting the high TCP and UDP ports out.
Check out this document

I agree "suckered" may not have been the best choice of wording to represent
all who purchased a Zero CIR for the network. In some situations it my be
appropriate.

Excessive collisions

2000-09-11 Thread Lonnie Paschall

I have a 4500 with a two port Ethernet module. Each port on the module
connects to a different 2924 switch and is in a different subnet. I keep
getting excessive collisions on the Ethernet interfaces, no runts, no
giants, no CRC errors, just collisions. Any thoughts? There is no command to
set the duplex or speed on the module.

Thanks,

Lonnie

Thank you. I verified that the module that I have is only half duplex /
10BaseT and the collisions are not as excessive as I first thought.

Re: Excessive collisions

2000-09-12 Thread Lonnie Paschall

Thats funny, I have a spare 3640 that I could use in place of the 4500. I
would need to purchase an Ethernet module though. On paper the 3640 and the
4500 seem very similiar performance wise, both have 100MHZ Risc processors
and have the same amount of memory. The 3640 can handle up to 128MB thought
I think. What would be the advantage of replacing the 4500 with the 3640?

Exam info for BCRAN?

2000-07-06 Thread Lonnie Paschall

Anyone have any tips for the BCRAN exam 505? I am scheduled to take the exam
this monday and any last minute tips would be appreciated. I have been using
the Cisco Building Ciso Remote Access networks book and cisco.com to
prepare. I am going the CCNP 1.0 track as I have already passed ACRC and
CLSW. I decided at the last minute to take the BCRAN instead of the CMTD
because I had no experience with the older cisco routers that are on the
CMTD. Again, any help would be appreciated.

Passed BCRAN today!!

2000-07-10 Thread Lonnie Paschall

Just passed the BCRAN today. I used the Cisco Press Builiding Cisco Remote
Access Networks book and the boson exams. The test was easier than the
others (ACRC, CLSC). I was suprised to find so many x25 questions in such a
new exam. Cant actually tell you any questions but I would know you ISDN
commands, X25, and Frame-Relay. Now on to CIT!!!
