Virtual Routing instances [7:72332]
Hi Group, Does any body know what is the smallest Cisco box that can do multiple routing instances? I know that juniper's M20 can do that. We are in a situation that we have to have multiple agencies on the same router but having separate routing and forwarding tables for each one of them, without running MPLS and BGP. If not we have to have a separate physical router for each agency and with redundancy we are talking about 20 routers. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Re: router simulation on ccnp recertification [7:71765]
DJ, I had the same problem last Sunday when I took the CCNP recert. I got 715 out of 732 The simulation writing was so small that I could not even see it plus all the scroll down and up finally I gave up after 5 minutes and just clicked next because I was so frustrated. The question itself was so long by the time I got to the last line I forgot what the question was about and the bad part it that I new exactly how to do the configs but I was already running out of time 120 question with 120 minutes that is only 1 minute per question. when I got the second simulation I had the same issue and I just clicked next because I had spent so much time on the first one. So, do not feel bad I am in the same situation my NP expires in August I will take it aging in two weeks Keep in touch. Re: Is 'troubleshooting campus netwroks' enough for C [7:66091]
If you are looking for Priscilla,s book the ISBN is 0471210137 HTH Reza Mike Reilly wrote in message news:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello I was looking at purchasing this book and want to make sure that I have the correct one. ISBN = 0471428094 If not can someone give me the correct one? Priscilla Oppenheimer wrote in message news:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Newell Ryan D SrA 18 CS/SCBT wrote: I have read a part of this book. It seems to line up with the CIT. Will this be enough reading material to pass the CIT? Did you retransmit the message or did Group Study send it again by mistake? Unfortunately, due to no marketing by the publisher, not very many people know that the Troubleshooting Campus Networks book exists and that it's a great tool for studying for the Support (CIT) test. So you may not get an answer from anyone but me, the main author. :-) It makes me sad to see you post the question and not get an answer, because it's evidence of the poor sales. Joseph Bardwell and I went to a huge amount of effort to produce high-quality, targetted content. The result is a terrific book. It doesn't matter that it's terrific. With no marketing, it might as well not exist. Also the title is not quite right. It covers more than campus networks, including tons of info on routing protocols and a chapter on WAN troubleshooting. The Amazon description that the publisher wrote is laughable, but sad. :-( So, it has a lot going against it despite its great content. Anyway, Troubleshooting Campus Networks should be enough to pass the Support Test. That was one of my main goals for writing the book. I was one of the devleopers of the CIT course and have a good feel for what's in it. I was the developer for version 3.0, but a revierwer for the more recent versions. I have take the Support test a couple times to get a good feel for what's on it. Troubleshooting Campus Networks covers more than you will need for the test. To make your studying more efficient, be sure to spend time with the tables that describe the Cisco show and debug commands. The Support exam has a big focus on those. Also study the output from these commands and the descriptions of what they mean. If your goal is just to pass the test, don't spend a lot of time on the wireless chapter. The current test doesn't have any wireless questions. Don't spend a lot of time with the protocol analyzer output. Although I think a troubleshooter should have to know that level of detail, Cisco does not. :-) To pass the Support exam, about all you have to know about TCP is that there's a 3-way handshake. A lot of Cisco people think that's the only relevant thing to know about TCP. In Chapter 2, I wrote a lot about troubleshooting methods. Cisco, of course, expects you just to know their method, which I did cover. :-) I didn't spend much time on Cisco troubleshooting tools. That's one thing you may want to get from the official Cisco book or read up on these topics on CCO, (if you can still find them. The test is outdated). Gain some familiarity with what the following tools do for a troubleshooter: CiscoWorks CWSI Netsys TrafficDirector VLANDirector WAN Manager StackDecoder Core Dump CCO MarketPlace CCO Software Center CCO Bug Toolkit CCO Troubleshooting Engine CCO Open Forum The only other topic that my book doesn't cover in much detail that you may see on the test is the internal architecture of the Catalyst 5000 and troubleshooting with the LEDs on the 5000. The test is not very hard, by the way, not nearly as hard as BSCI, from what I hear. Good luck with it! ___ Priscilla Oppenheimer www.troubleshootingnetworks.com www.priscilla.com Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=66091t=66091 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Wanted-CCIE Lessons Learned/Attitude/Plan [7:49167]
Tom, Thanks for the input about taking the lab. Where did you find 12.1 IOS Docs?. I looked at Cisco Press and other book stores on line, they only have 12.0. Is 12.1 being used in the lab?. Thanks Reza Thomas Larus wrote in message news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... (I recently failed my first attempt, so weigh my advice accordingly.) The short form is: 1)Read obsessively and quickly start doing simple labs 2) Labs will raise questions, sending you back to the books and IOS docs 3) Do complex lab scenarios created by other people until you are blue in the face 4) Always strive to nail down things you are unsure of, and nail down every setting that you are permitted to nail down in you configs (advice from Caslow in NMC-1 class, which class is highly recommended and worth every penny). An important motto of the quest for CCIE is Nail everything down. As for time periods, that is impossible for me to set out. Everyone is different. We all start at different places when we set out for the CCIE. Some are top network engineers when they start and have less to learn than someone like me. I have found that this takes much more time than I ever planned for initially. You should read always and everywhere. IOS docs, TAC articles, Cisco Press Books, McGraw Hill technical expert books, Caslow, Doyle, etc. You start off by doing labs on individual technologies, such as those provided by fatkid, ipexpert, and the like, or labbing up the scenarios in Doyle, etc. When you do these labs, you will have questions, which you send you back to the books with a keen interest. I think that reading in order to find an answer or to learn about something that you are dying to learn about leads to greater absorption than reading straight through a book with the goal of reading so many pages a day. I know we need to do both kinds of reading, but I am making the point that doing labs makes your absorption and compehension of what you read so much deeper. You can try to do you own labs, but you may find that you move much faster through teh material doing labs prepared by someone else. Plus, doing labs written by others gets you practice interpreting instructions. You soon move on to complex lab scenarios. Do lots and lots of these. The commercial labs will teach you a lot, and are worth spending money on, even though they may not be perfect. These commercial labs will teach you that many knowledgeable CCIEs make the same kinds of mistakes that you are scared to death of making on the CCIE lab. It is frustrating, yet somehow comforting, to find the glaring errors and omissions in expensive labs written by CCIEs. The authors will tell you to configure something, and then completely forget to configure it themselves. (and then continue to forget to configure it through several revisions of their labs and lab solutions) You learn from this that it is possible to pass the CCIE even though you are prone to making almost unforgivably glaring errors when you have years to do it right. I am a bit absent-minded myself, so that is comforting. (I simply need an 8-hour lucid interval of perfect focus on getting every detail right and avoiding landmines, while moving through the tasks at high speed.) In short, use lab scenarios early on, and do reading and lab scenarios concurrently, and read everything. I bought the 12.1 IOS Docs in printed format, and have really enjoyed reading them. They are loaded with good stuff. Do NOT buy the old books of IOS docs (I bought a bunch of these, mainly as half-price closeouts), because out-of-date docs are almost worse than no docs at all. This IOS has changed a lot from 11.2 or even 12.0 to 12.1. Jennifer Mellone wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... LESSONS LEARNED, ATTITUDE, AND STRUCTURED STUDY PLAN I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on lessons learned when studying for CCIE. What did you do right? What did you do wrong? If you had to do it all over again, what would you change - especially if someone wants to pass the first time? I think the attitude do it right and try and pass the first time could be helpful (I know it doesn't always happen in reality). It seems more positive than I'll fail the first time so I know what to expect the second or third or later time. My instinct tells me that determination and practicing on the routers every night and on weekends for at least 6 months is key, and is easier said than done. There are no short-cuts. This is fine; it's the price one must pay. But how does one do that in a methodical and structured manner such that all the major stones are unturned? Of course, some stones will be unturned quicker than others due to experience, and others will be slower due to lack of experience/knowledge. I feel ad hoc practice could be counter productive. For example, a structured approach would be s

Jason, I am not sure but I think it depends on the type contract you have. I have the same issue. I know there are people on this list that have ordered 12.2 but when I look for it on the list I don't see it, I only see 12.1. Reza Barbee Jason wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... And I'm concerned about billing too, it appears it will charge our Cisco Reseller for the shipping and/or costs. Do these documents cost anything or is it just the cost of shipping? I thought I had read a thread that mentioned this somewhere, but I couldn't find it using the groupstudy google search engine, and the older archive search engine gave a glimpse not found error. Re: web based cbt training for ccnp....any good
For BSCN all you really need is read the Cisco Press Routing book. Reza "Moahzam Durrani" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... How effective are the cbt , netg training modules. I get them free through the organization.Has anybody used them before. I was browsing through the NETG course for the BSCN and it had some simulations and hands on and also tried sticking to topics found in the cisco press book., but i was to tired looking at a pc screen... ill still stick to the books and hands on labs Mo Durrani IST WYSE\EDS phone:408-473 1246 [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: Doing things backwards - Question for the CCDPs in the list.
The CCDA exam has a lot of case study questions and at least 30 of the questions are case study so make sure that you do all the case studies at the end of Cisco's DCN book. the CID exam does not have any case studies. Reza CCNP,CCDP ""Miller, Nathan - BSC"" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... I know that this is not the list for CCDA questions but I hope that you will humor me. I have recently completed CCNP and studied with another engineer who was already CCDA certified. We studied for the CID (640-025) exam together and I passed this exam today. My question is this: Is the DCN (CCDA) exam sufficiently different from the CID that I will need to study for it separately or will the prep for the CID exam suffice. Thanks in advance for your advice. VPN3000
Does any body know this: I am configuring the VPN 3000 to send SNMP traps to our network monitoring system. I need to know the text that the VPN 3000 generates for all events in certain event classes. I will set the VPN 3000 to forward these events as traps.
