Good Review However one correction, you've mentioned that EIGRP is a link state routing protocol, when it is a hybrid distance vector protocol. Hi John At the moment I'm just going through my old ACRC,CLSC,CMTD CIT stuff coupled with Doyles Routing TCP/IP Cisco's Network Design Case Studies for IS-IS BGP, an MLS supplement Priscilla O recommended I'm going to go through test questions from CCxx Productions. VLAN Tagging on Cat 3550 Another question [7:71703]

REMOTE SITE PC's-CISCO 3550--CISCO 2600~~(256K LEASE LINE) (VLAN3) (802.1q TRUNK) MAIN SITE ~~CISCO 3600ALCATEL SWITCHPIX...INTERNET ROUTER/INTERNET. (256K LINK) (802.1qTRUNK) (VLAN3) A client wants to allow a group of PC's on a remote site, access to the internet via the main site's ISP.But wants these group of Pc's on their own VLAN so they have no connection to the rest of the network (except for the internet router which the whole network uses to access the internet) they have been advised by a third party to do it as above. They have a Cisco 3550EMI switch at the remote site a Alcatel Omnicore L3 switch at the Main site. The WAN link is a 256k lease line. They want to configure the PC's on the remote site with the same VLAN as a dedicated PIX on the Main site (also on the same subnet). The Cat 3550 is not using it's L3 capabilities and is trunked to the remote site's router Can this be done ? I'm sure thinking of the basic laws of routing it won't be possible to have devices being on the same subnet but across different WAN links, as routing loops can occur. Also would it be best to enable the layer 3 capabilities of the switches, or to let the routers do the work. You will bring the ring down. Dave take a look at this, it sounds like what you want to do, you need to change your bridge number though as they should not match. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/tech/tk331/tk336/technologies_tech_note09186a0080094548.shtml Simon Watson wrote: Hi MadmanAre you recommending me to configure both Token-Ring HSRP interfaces with the same SRB statement ? i.e source-bridge 101 2 300.Thanks Simon. Hi Guys I hope you can help me. (i.e put in the new boot Rom first then the DRAM SIMMS etc) as they want a worst case scenario(i.e if there is a problem to re-install the original kit) As my AS5300 Knowledge is pretty rusty, in what order do you think I should proceed with the upgrade ??. Do you think there will be any problems in having software compression running on the WAN link with the 3600 on the main site running 12.0(7), and a router on the remote site(2600) running 12.2(x). I've never heard of one before, before I start reading the manual, has any of you guys have experience of one before ?, how much different is it to configure compared to say, a Catalyst switch ?/DIV DIVnbsp;/DIV DIVAny thoughts will be appreciated./DIV DIVnbsp;/DIV DIVThanks/DIV DIVnbsp;/DIV DIVSimon Watson CCNP./DIVbr clear=allhrGet Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at a href="http://www.hotmail.com"http://www.hotmail.com/a.br/p/html _ FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
NAT HSRP Problem
htmlDIVHi Guys/DIV DIVnbsp;/DIV DIVI've got 2 dual ethernet Cisco 1605 routers connected to each other via 2 cascaded hubs. Both sets of interfaces are set up for HSRP.(eth0 of both routers arenbsp;in one HSRP group amp; eth1 are in another HSRP group). Both routers have also been set up to staically NAT a device(which will be called Test PC)nbsp;on the local network which is connected to eth 1 of the routers. Also tracking is set on both of the primary router's interfaces to monitor the other interface./DIV DIVnbsp;/DIV DIVEth0 on both routers are connected to a Core router via a hub. In normal operation, nbsp;ifnbsp;nbsp;the test PCnbsp;nbsp;sent continous PING's to a device hanging on the Core router, it's local IP address is translated by the HSRP Primary router amp; routed towards the core router amp; all is well. On inspection of the Core routersnbsp;ARP cache shows the translated IP address of test PC and the virtual MAC- address of the primary (int eth0) HSRP router as expected./DIV DIVnbsp;/DIV DIVHowever if the cable on eth1 of the Primary router is plugged out to invoke the Standby router to become nbsp;active the PING's seemed to be not getting through. On inspection of the 2 1600 routers the changover of the Standby router from standby to active has taken place, with the Primary router now in a standby state./DIV DIVnbsp;/DIV DIVHowever on inspecting the ARP cache of the core router, instead of seeing the translated IP address of the test PC with the virtual MAC address, the translated IP address was seen with the REAL hardware address of the now standby interface on the primary router, thus causing the PING's not to work./DIV DIVnbsp;/DIV DIVI've tried this with another set of routers amp; the same thing happened. Has Cisco got a bug with HSRP being configured with a router when NAT is also configued. Plase let me know your thoughts on this matter./DIV DIVnbsp;/DIV DIVThanks/DIV DIVSimon CCNP/DIVbr clear=allhrGet Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at a href="http://www.hotmail.com"http://www.hotmail.com/a.br/p/html _ FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Question on Subnetting
Hi Guys I've got a customer who has a VSAT WAN network consisting of Cisco routers, who has for a point to point connection between 2 routers used different subnet masks i.e on the interface of one router the IP address is 172.16.8.1 Mask 255.255.240.0, on the interface of the router at the other end of the link an IP address of 172.16.8.35 mask 255.255.255.240. (No dynamic routing protocol is in operation at the moment). For the remote router to send data accross the link a static route has to be configured as 172.16.8.1 is not in it's subnet. I'm trying to find documents on the web (i.e RFC's) to show to the customer that this subnetting scheme, is unconventional, unadvisable and not recommended, and that devices residing on the same network should have the same subnet mask. Can anyone help Thanks in advance Simon CCNP _ Get more from the Web. Re: Passed CCNP
Hi On the question if you should take the CCNP1.0 or 2.0. It depends what you have studied for in the pass if you are already prepared to take the exams. The CCNP1.0 exams expire on the 31st July(in 6 days) so if you have just commenced studying it would be advisable to go the version 2.0 route. Unfortunatley I can't help you much with recommeded reading, I had the student course work for all the exams plus the cisco ACRC book from ciscopress. Rgrds Simon From: "Phan H. The path I took was the FRS exam and then the CIT got 900 out of 1000 on the FRS( 91% ACRC,91% CMTD,79% CLSC) 778 out off 1000 for the CIT. I found the CIT the hardest exam, make sure you know ISDN well as there was a lot of ISDN questions on my exam. This was for the CCNP1.0, how long before I need to recertify ??.I've heard it is 2 years. Well I must thank God for his immense help, and for you guys for your valuble input.
