In other contexts such as a company that has a bunch of expensive PBXs that have to be integrated onto the WAN portion of the data network, one must exercise care to benefit from bypassing PSTN and other legacy solutions. Later steps can be taken to evolve to the full AVVID solution discussed in the CIPT book, but for now I have to focus on the Cvoice model, namely, using VoFR, VoATM and VoIP to stop the hemorrhage of funds into legacy long-distance voice networking. Getting those PBXs talking to each other over an FR or ATM cloud is no small matter, and the economic benefit is huge. -- TT Original Message Subject: RE: CVOICE book: VoATM and VoFR [7:53567] Date: 19 Sep 2002 00:29:26 - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Priscilla Oppenheimer) Organization: GroupStudy.com Discussion Groups Newsgroups: groupstudy.cisco Tom Scott wrote: Having asked about VoMPLS transcoding from analog voice to MPLS frames without intermediate IP packets, my lab partner noticed that the CVOICE book (edited by Steve McQuerry etal) discusses VoFR and VoATM (chapters 8 and 9): analog+---+ +---+ analog phone A1 | | ATM | | phone B1 ... | rtr A | or FR | rtr B |... analog | | cloud | | analog phone Ai +---+ +---+ phone Bj Are we reading this correctly, that the analog phones plug into the cisco routers and the analog voice traffic is transformed into FR frames or ATM cells, with no IP packets in between? Yup, you got it, although it may be even simpler than you imagine. Before AVVID, Cisco did VoIP, VoFR, and VoATM, as discussed in the CVOICE class. With these solutions, you simply connected analog phones to FXS ports on routers. The routers digitized and compressed the dialed digits and the voice itself and packetized it. If it was VoATM or VoFR, there was no IP. The data was simply put into data-link-layer frames (or cells with ATM). You asked about the call-control signaling from the analog phone, but how much would there be? These phones would be your basic $5.99 KMart special with no bells and whistles, so to speak. The router provides dial tone and picks up the dialed digits and forwards them to the other router. Hi Study Folk Just dropping a line to thank the group for the support and advice that was given - I knocked off this test successfully this afternoon at the eleventh hour (May 14 here - the US is still catching up). Michael I am using Caputo - Cisco Packetized Voice Data Integration ISBN 0-07-134777-1 it is good read but will require additional supplementary information (eg CIPT hardware etc)- but most on the list seem to recommend Integrating Voice and Data Networks by Scott Keagy (I have ordered it bit I won't see it before my test - takes two or more weeks to get to the bookstore) Another recent addition is Cisco Voice over Frame Relay, ATM and IP ISBN 1578702275 (have not read it can't say much more) There is also good supplementary information at http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/625/ccie/recertifications/multiserv_blueprint.html Good luck! Edmund, The Cisco Packetized Voice Data Integration by Robert Caputo is a great reference. I also like Integrating Voice and Data Networks by Scott Keagy. The cvoice test realy hits hard on dial-peer's, voip and vofr. There were some voatm questions but they were few and pretty generic. The CVOICE Version 2.0 (current version) class covers AVVID. See here for the CVOICE course objectives. http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/front.x/wwtraining/CELC/index.cgi?action=CourseDescCOURSE_ID=1359 Unfortunately, I don't think Cisco ever published any test objectives. RE: Is CVOICE1.0(1998) enough for CVOICE 2.0 Beta?
I'd took my CVOICE ver 1 training in S'pore 3 weeks ago. According to the instructor the CVOICE 2.0 is basically a subset of CVOICE 1.0 but their material are much more organized. However in the CVOICE 2.0 exam, you can expect the question more towards PBXes (told my the instructor). Taking the exam next week. Good luck everyone. RE: Is CVOICE1.0(1998) enough for CVOICE 2.0 Beta?
CVOICE2 isn't a subset of CVOICE1, though they did remove the sections on basic analog and digital voice technologies. They also added AVVID material and a section on PBXes. I helped work on CVOICE2. It's been out for quite a while. I'm surprised that your class was still CVOICE1. I don't know the status of the test, though. Is it based on CVOICE1 or CVOICE2?? Cisco's info links to the new version of the class, which implies that the test is based on CVOICE2, which means you'll have questions on AVVID and PBXes. See this URL: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/10/wwtraining/certprog/testing/current_exams/640-647.html Has anyone taken CVOICE recently? Did you have questions on AVVID and PBXes? Re: Which CVOICE book???
"Integrating Voice and Data Networks," by Scott Keagy. It's a book for engineers, not just test takers. If you like simple books that are thrown together as fast as possible to get market share, you might not like this book. But if you like books that are detailed, accurate, and relevant, this book is superb. Re: Trade CATM 2.0 for CVOICE 2.0
And did not sign any agreements or NDA's saying that I would not sell trade or give them away. The material is copyrighted so I could not copy it but as for a trade or sale? Looks like its changed unless our uni had a special license - http://www.cla.co.uk/www/fairdeal.htm states that non profit libraries can copy one chapter or *10 percent* of a book (and not a third) whichever is greater for people for private study or research purposes. Theres also "fair dealing" but that looks so hideously un-specified that I wouldnt like to go up against big lawyers with my interpretation. *This applies in the UK only, and obviously only if it is private study and not something your company wants* Theres links to similar organisations in other countries though. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] Lauren Child, BSc. Re: Trade CATM 2.0 for CVOICE 2.0
Why do you consider trading theft? The manual is the personal property of the person that took the class. If they wish to trade it to someone else that took another class who has personal property that they would like to trade, they may do so. If you have a book that you finish and give to your mom or a co-worker, do you consider that theft? RE: Trade CATM 2.0 for CVOICE 2.0
I have taken the course, but I would also recommend taking the course. I would not recommend copying or trading the material at all. We are professional individuals. I assume you all are some-what smart or more. But I find that us "techies" lack the full common sense of non-techies. We are successful, or are going to be succesful. So I would be very careful it what you do. The course is excellent. I myself, found it hard but very informative. The book is also on sale now. Hope we are talking about the same thing here. Any comments welcome-lets all be careful with our information. Roy PS-Maybe someone with a relative, or friend that is a lawyer could give us all some guidance on this issue. I myself would love to give out information if it is found to be legal. -Original Message- From: Brian [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, November 21, 2000 3:16 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Trade CATM 2.0 for CVOICE 2.0 I have the official Cisco ATM 2.0 courseware. Passed CVOICE - info for others
Just got back from the test. It was pretty much what I expected. . . harder than hell. The achieves are pretty bare on advice on passing this so here goes: I got ahold of the CVOICE 2.0 course notes. This was a recommendation from the archives and believe me it was a good one. There wasn't one question I didn't recognize from the notes. I got an 875, so obviously recognizing it doesn't mean I got it right. The next valuable study resource was the Boson test, Cisco Voice over Frame Relay 1.0, test #1. The only weakness was very little attention to 'new world' telephony/CIPT. Other then that very good for the test. I didn't try test #2 Finally, I purchased the Voice over IP CIM. I would rank it third on the list. The hands on was very good, but it covers just a portion of the objectives. The test cover Voice over Frame Relay and ATM and there's nothing on the CIM regarding these technologies. I hope this helps someone. I will probably get rid of my CVOICE course notes, if your interested drop me an email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -=Mike=- _ FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
