Re: Cisco 2501 DC Power adaptors ? [7:64300]
Simon, I bought an adaptor from Maplin Electronics in the UK (www.maplin.co.uk) or you can also try Farnell Electronics (www.farnell.co.uk), if you call them and explain what you need they are quite helpful. It's quite good because the adaptors take 2 of the US plugs. Re: Cisco 2501 DC Power adaptors ? [7:64300]
I just had this prob. I got a router for my home lab that had DC power. Actually I just swapped an AC power supply from the same series router that I had into the one I wanted to use and it works just fine. Hope that helps, also I'm sure you can find them on e-bay. RE: Cisco 2501 DC Power adaptors ? [7:64296]
You need a RPS. It converts AC to DC and can be used for a number of chassis (2500,3600, 2950 etc) Not too cheap / or common (on ebay etc), but you may want a look! New DC power for the 2600 is just under £300. How many DC routers do you have ? It is correct that the 2500 does not support trunking (at least, not yet). But I don't know that the fact that they only support 10bt has anything to do with it. For example, the 2610/2611 have only 10bt also and they support trunking with the right IOS. I mistakenly said that..:) I should have said the 10Bt chip set that it used probably wont support trunking. The 26xx chipset is newer and apparently does support trunkingsorry. Strange problem with Cisco 2501 routers
Hi Folks, I have a few Cisco 2501 routers all eith the same startup problem. On startup, the routers behave normal, but after the "Press RETURN to get started" message, the routers come up with errors about the ethernet and serial interfaces, restarts and then hang up completely. Thinking that the problem may be with the DRAM, Flash or software, I have replaced these with ones from other Cisco 2501 routers in good working condition, but the problem remained the same. The typical output from these routers is as shown at the end of this posting. Any good ideas will be appreciated. Thank you. Re: Strange problem with Cisco 2501 routers
The only startup errors evident in this output is this: Unknown or ambiguous service arg - udp-small-servers Unknown or ambiguous service arg - tcp-small-servers Illegal IP keyword - classless You're probably seeing this because you are running IOS 11.1(7), but your config is pasted in from a router running at least 11.2. 11.1(7) apparently doesn't understand these lines: service udp-small-servers service tcp-small-servers ip classless You can upgrade your IOS or remove those lines from your config. The status messages about the interfaces are not strange in any way. They look quite normal, assuming the ethernet port was connected to something but the serial ports were not. HTH, John Hi Folks, I have a few Cisco 2501 routers all eith the same startup problem. Thank you. You're right, but I think he is talking about the UPDOWN messages. This could be due to a "shutdown" line in each interface, but it would help to see the configuration. RE: Strange problem with Cisco 2501 routers
Do you have a TFTP server on the segment maybe with a file net-conf? It could be pulling a bad configuration file from a tftp server. Also it might be trying to pull a IOS image from a TFTP server that is not there. It might have a boot system tftp command in the config. I assume you just got these and you are experiencing the problem. Try going into ROM mode and change the Configuration register to ignore the start up config file (confreg 0x142). reload the router and see what the config look like. I have a feeling it is looking for something off a TFTP server. If you want you can make a copy of the config and then do a write erase. Change back the Config Register to 0x2102 (Router#config-reg 0x2102). Reload the router and see if you get the same error. Hope this helps Drew -Original Message- From: Ole Drews Jensen [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, February 07, 2001 7:31 AM To: 'John Neiberger'; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Strange problem with Cisco 2501 routers You're right, but I think he is talking about the UPDOWN messages. To get into the ROMMON prompt, you can connect to the router via a console cable and press CTRL-ESC from a Hyper Terminal different than the one that comes with Windows. Hi all, I believe this question has been asked by somebody. Can you point me the link to what type of memory can be added to a very old Cisco 2501 ? Thanks.
How do you make a Cisco 2501 and Cisco 3000 Talk?
...on the Serial Ports? The Cisco 3000 has a 50 PIN serial V2 cable and the Cisco 2501 has a standard serial port, like that on the back of a PC.What type of cable should i use? There are perhaps 4 different types, I think in the manuals, RS-232, X.25 The manuals do show connecting the Routers to hubs, switches, etc, BUT NOT EACH OTHER. ___ UPDATED Posting Guidelines: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/guide.html FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: Cisco 2501 Memory
There are two types of DRAM memory in the Cisco 2500 series routers: primary and shared (packet). Primary memory is used to store the operating configuration, routing tables, caches, queues, and packets. Shared memory is used to store incoming and outgoing packets. In your case there is no "fixed" DRAM soldered on the system board. Your 16 MB stick is used as 2 MB Shared and 14 MB Primary. -Original Message- From: Tai Ngo [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, June 27, 2000 1:07 PM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: Cisco 2501 Memory I recently purchased a 2501 Router with IOS 12.0 and upgraded the memory to 16MB. But when the router boots up, it shows 14,???K/2048K. Is this what it's suppose to show for 16MB. The memory module I installed is a 16MB Parity 70ns simm. Just wondering if that's the way it shows 16MB of RAM. When I install it on my Cisco 1000, I get 16MB upon bootup. ___ UPDATED Posting Guidelines: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/guide.html FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ UPDATED Posting Guidelines: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/guide.html FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
