It takes -48V DC. This is standard Telco power. If you can find
a Telco power supply, you could use it. However, the best thing would
probably be to find a replacement power supply.

I haven't seen any 2500 series routers with RPS connectors, so an

Simon, I bought an adaptor from Maplin Electronics in the UK
(www.maplin.co.uk) or you can also try Farnell Electronics
(www.farnell.co.uk), if you call them and explain what you need they are
quite helpful. It's quite good because the adaptors take 2 of the US plugs.

I just had this prob. I got a router for my home lab that had DC power.
Actually I just swapped an AC power supply from the same series router
that I had into the one I wanted to use and it works just fine. Hope
that helps, also I'm sure you can find them on e-bay.

You need a RPS. It converts AC to DC and can be used for a number of
chassis (2500,3600, 2950 etc) Not too cheap / or common (on ebay etc), but
you may want a look! New DC power for the 2600 is just under £300.

How many DC routers do you have ?

I know here in the US that APC makes some. Check out their site and see
if they offer them in the UK.

I'm not sure if the hardware changed on the 25XX routers but, none of
them support full duplex operation. Doesn't trunking require at least
full duplex interfaces to operate?

It is correct that the 2500 does not support trunking (at least, not yet).
But I don't know that the fact that they only support 10bt has anything to
do with it. For example, the 2610/2611 have only 10bt also and they support
trunking with the right IOS. I believe the 10bt ethernet module on one of
the 4000 series routers (probably the4700M) also supported trunking.

 Hi thomas;

AFAIK Dot1q is only supported in (some) FastEthernet interfaces, and 2501
has only Ethernet, so it isn't supported.

 Hi,

I've tried to configure dot1q on the LAN interface on my Cisco 2501

but it doesn't seem to know the encapsulation dot1q command.

Does anyone know if the 2500 series supports dot1q ?

I should have said the 10Bt chip set that it used

It is correct that the 2500 does not support trunking (at least, not yet).
But I don't know that the fact that they only support 10bt has anything to
do with it. For example, the 2610/2611 have only 10bt also and
 they support
trunking with the right IOS. I believe the 10bt ethernet module on one of
the 4000 series routers (probably the4700M) also supported trunking.

 Hi Guys/dolls

I've got a problem whereby Im connecting a cisco router with a lucent
router via a 128kb line. I've configured the serial interface on the
cisco router with Encap PPP and also on the Lucent router. When I show
the interface, I get the Line up protocol up statement, which tells
me that the link is working fine but for some reason I can't ping the
 other side. Any suggestion??

When you say a 128 line, what are you referring to (ISDN) ??? What protocol
framing are you running. I know OSPF Nortel OSPF Cisco, won't work out
without a little tweaking.

Strange problem with Cisco 2501 routers

2001-02-07 Thread Cisco Engineer

Hi Folks,

I have a few Cisco 2501 routers all eith the same
startup problem. On startup, the routers behave
normal, but after the "Press RETURN to get started"
message, the routers come up with errors about the
ethernet and serial interfaces, restarts and then hang
up completely.

Thinking that the problem may be with the DRAM, Flash
or software, I have replaced these with ones from
other Cisco 2501 routers in good working condition,
but the problem remained the same. The typical output
from these routers is as shown at the end of this
posting.

Any good ideas will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Re: Strange problem with Cisco 2501 routers

2001-02-07 Thread John Neiberger

The only startup errors evident in this output is this:

Unknown or ambiguous service arg - udp-small-servers
Unknown or ambiguous service arg - tcp-small-servers
 Illegal IP keyword - classless

You're probably seeing this because you are running IOS 11.1(7), but your config is
pasted in from a router running at least 11.2. 11.1(7) apparently doesn't understand
these lines:

service udp-small-servers
service tcp-small-servers
ip classless

You can upgrade your IOS or remove those lines from your config. The status messages
about the interfaces are not strange in any way. They look quite normal, assuming the
ethernet port was connected to something but the serial ports were not.

John

RE: Strange problem with Cisco 2501 routers

2001-02-07 Thread Maness, Drew

Do you have a TFTP server on the segment maybe with a file net-conf? It
could be pulling a bad configuration file from a tftp server. Also it might
be trying to pull a IOS image from a TFTP server that is not there. It
might have a boot system tftp command in the config. I assume you just got
these and you are experiencing the problem.

Try going into ROM mode and change the Configuration register to ignore the
start up config file (confreg 0x142). reload the router and see what the
config look like. I have a feeling it is looking for something off a TFTP
server. If you want you can make a copy of the config and then do a write
erase. Change back the Config Register to 0x2102 (Router#config-reg
0x2102). Reload the router and see if you get the same error.

Hope this helps

Drew

The ROM version of 3.3 catches my eye. Might be good to update those. Call
the TAC. They will provide them for shipping cost.

 Thank you.

I have a cisco router 2501 and I cannot boot to the prompt. The Router
starts fine and hangs during the boot up. I have tried to get into the

I need it for my home lab. Any help is welcomed.

2000-12-18 Thread Ole Drews Jensen

To get into the ROMMON prompt, you can connect to the router via a console
cable and press CTRL-ESC from a Hyper Terminal different than the one that
comes with Windows. I cannot remember the URL, but you can search on the
Internet for one.

BTW, what is the last message you see from the router before it goes into
orbit?

2000-09-07 Thread Gabriel . Neagoe

Hello Benny

the info on 2501 memory can be found here:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_fix/cis2500/2501/
2500ug/maint.htm

from my experience I can tell youthat you can put there usual computer 72
pin FPM simms (not EDO); if you have an old 486 in some dusty corner get the
memory and put it in the router

How do you make a Cisco 2501 and Cisco 3000 Talk?

2000-07-12 Thread rtc

...on the Serial Ports? The Cisco 3000 has a 50 PIN serial V2 cable
and the Cisco 2501 has a standard serial port, like that on the back
of a PC.What type of cable should i use? There are perhaps 4 different
types, I think
in the manuals, RS-232, X.25 The manuals do show connecting the
Routers to hubs, switches, etc, BUT NOT EACH OTHER.

RE: Cisco 2501 Memory

2000-06-27 Thread Daniel Cotts

There are two types of DRAM memory in the Cisco 2500 series routers: primary
and shared (packet). Primary memory is used to store the operating
configuration, routing tables, caches, queues, and packets. Shared memory is
used to store incoming and outgoing packets.
In your case there is no "fixed" DRAM soldered on the system board. Your 16
MB stick is used as 2 MB Shared and 14 MB Primary.

 Is this what
it's suppose to show for 16MB. The memory module I installed

Parity 70ns simm. Just wondering if that's the way it shows
 16MB of RAM.

When I install it on my Cisco 1000, I get 16MB upon bootup.
