to clear up some questions before I do it again..

What happen if there is no signal / LED for DTR on a modem ?

What is service common for AH and ESP ?

What is status Delete on Frame Relay Mean ?

What is Dial Fast Idle command spec. in DDR ?

LCP repond for neighbor of which function ?

What happen if AAA is enable but authentication not set ?

What is termination at local loop BRI call ?

what is caht scrip function ?

how you do a Load sharing in NAT ( 2 actions )
Please help if you know the answer for those questions. Thanks

RE: BCRAN 2.0 questions [7:13450]

2003-08-26 Thread Reimer, Fred
We tend not to answer specific short questions like those that appear they
may come from an actual test, especially when presented in a list like that.
There is a confidentiality agreement you should have read when you took the
test... The purpose of the exams is to test your understanding of the
technologies, not your memorization skills for specific point questions. If
you have questions on AH and ESP for example, then give more background so
that we can understand what you are having problems with understanding IPsec
communications. We would be more than happy to oblige then...

Not that I speak for the whole list though...

I agree that you should know the generalities of the 700 series. I bought
one anyway off of ebay, it was only $20 for a 776M, so I wasn't out a whole

Hi there,
Yes I have cleared BCMSN and CIT. I do have a solid grounding in both but I
myself don't feel too good about BSCI (especially after IS-IS) so I think I
will try my luck with BCRAN. I have hands-on experience so I don't think
there should be much of a problem. Besides, I will study before appearing
for the test. Am counting on the official course book and Boson so will keep
you guys posted as to what turns out.

Cheers,

2002-12-11 Thread Maccubbin, Duncan
Having taken the original Remote Access exam and 640-605 with both books,
there is a difference. Since I passed the 605 exam with the certification
guide it can be done. It seemed to me the certification guide assumes you
know remote access and you just want to brush up. It didn't really put a lot
of effort into explaining things. I felt the 604 certification guide was
much better. I did look at the 604 blue print and saw ATM was not on it so I
skipped that chapter in the 604 book and there were no questions on ATM. I
looked at the 605 blue print and I did not see the 700 on there and skipped
that chapter and it was on the exam...go figure.

I can't comment on this book because I haven't read it. However, I've found
that using the Cisco Press books along with the exam blueprint and CCO is
normally the best bet for success. Also, 505 materials will normally be
sufficient to pass the 605 exam.

Concerning BCRAN, I don't see anything in the current exam topics that
specify the configuration of a Cisco 700 series router. The Cisco books I
have (605 series) devote an entire Chapter on this topic. Was it relevant to
the 605 exam and not the 606? I'm reading the chapter anyway as I have not
had experience with this device, just wondering if I need to commit things
to memory.

Hi,

I am in the same situation - except that I did BSCN and BCRAN, and I am
considering the remaining two.

I would suggest that you just continue without delay - keep the momentum, so
to speak.

Which one first? BSCI is a lot more difficult than BCRAN. I would suggest
you do BSCI first, as it will really make it easy to do BCRAN...but do you
mean you have already done Support?

Good Luck!

narrow my study focus because this seems to me to be the most difficult to

hi,
well as far as simulation Q is concerned .In exam i had only one Q
that was a frame relay question. In routing i had one Question as well
that was OSPF question.

I used simulation software at home but in exam it noo
it was a bad choice to put that type of format. it doesn't support anything.
If cisco want to have simulation questions thay should have a batter
simulation software. first in exan computer took long time to load that Q
after that it was working very slow. anyway if you know how to
configure.U won't have any problem

2002-09-19 Thread Claudia Walter

Hi Avnish,

I have asked the same question a while ago. Looks like they are not too keen
on wanting to know all the commands but put more emphasis on the
understanding of the different profiles and what features are supported. The
ExamCram book says the same btw, so don't get your head burning with all
those crazy commands ;-)

2002-09-19 Thread Kaminski, Shawn G

Especially know the 766 router and what ports are included on it . Also,
since the 700 series has been discontinued, you may want to look over the
800 series, which are taking the place of the 700 series. Know the 1600
series routers, as well. Don't forget product positioning (700/800 - SOHO
and Telecommuter, 1600 - Small/Medium business and small branch office,
etc.) You can find more info on Cisco's website.

Congrats! I'm going to sit it myself soon, without breaking the NDA was it
similar to BSCN ie: pick from list of cmds and enter yada, yada. How about
the dilaer cmds, AAA, 700 - I'm hoping those aren't on the test that much. TIA

RE: bcran test [7:42664]

2002-04-26 Thread Kaminski, Shawn G

If I remember correctly, you have to pick from a list of about 80-100
commands and then type the command exactly as shown in the command exhibit.
This is probably 40% of the exam. AAA was covered, but not much. You'll
probably need to know how the 700 series routers are positioned in the
market and also the profiles (system, LAN, etc.), but little on the
commands.

Re: BCRAN ISDN [7:25118]

2001-11-02 Thread news

Hello,

Though ISDN is covered in only one chapter per se, but other 1 or two
chapter is related to ISDN config.
When I did my BCRAN exam, I had about 10 questions on ISDN. However, exam
may have changed by now.

BCRAN is only of the easy exam since you have to select the commands from a
list where if any one can make a guess can get the right answer. For
example, they ask you to write the command that display the status of ISDN
for all the layer.

in the list there is only one or two command related to ISDN such as

show isdn history
show isdn status

So it is obious that it is the 2nd one.

don't forget to study x.25 even though this bugger is not supported by cisco
that much.

good luck
faisal

those
of you who have passed BCRAN, would you say that ISDN was not such a

did
OK on ISDN questions? I just want to know if my final cram sessions should

If you're not too bothered about actually learning the 700 (I wasn't
either), I'd say that if you read the chapter from the Cisco Press book, you
will know enough to answer the questions. I'd say that deep knowledge is not
a must for the exam, just an understanding of the concepts. I didn't study
the chapter, just read through it.

That may be true for a number of the exams. I've been a bit disappointed on
how little my study work was tested on some of the exams.

the objectives, try some sample exams..

My recommendations for this exam can be found on my RouterChief.com site
(click link below).

On there, you can also find exam info with a link to CramSession that has a
scale 1 to 5 of difficulty for each exam.

Re: BCRAN test....was there fill in the blank? [7:10284]

2001-06-29 Thread Oletu Hosea Godswill, CCNA.

No, I did BCRAN last week, the commands did not require you to know the
modes and you do not need to type in the modes, it was exactly like this:

For the purpose of making it clear so that many will benefit, am going into
these example question, it does not represent any exact exam question, it is
just to drive home the point this trend is generating, so that would be
writers of these exams will be better guided.

Which command is used to trigger load backup when the primary link has
reached 50% utilization and will remain up, even when the primary link
utilization decreases.

You will then be asked to click on the exhibit, where you will see things
like:

1. backup interface 50 never
2. encapsulation ppp
3. ppp authentication chap
4. framing esf
5. x25 map ip 10.98.98.25 65252525552 broadcast
6. backup load 50 never

We will then be required to type in the correct command.

Offcourse the answer you will type in this particular case will be 'backup
load 50 never' . you do not need to type:

'Router2(config-if)# backup load 50 never'

Cos there was no option like this and you are not require to do it, you do,
you got it wrong.

I wrote the BCSN on April 20 this year. In the case of BCSN you must know
the modes cos the options were like this:

1. Router#Show running-configuration
2. Router(config)#ip address 65.76.123.1 255.0.0.0
etc

In the case of BCSN you are only required to type in the number
corresponding to the correct command, ie either 1 or 3 or 4. You are not
required to they in the command itself.

Note:
Am driven the more to do this cos, I do not want anybody in this list to
make the same mistake I made when I was writing my BCSN. Because of what I
gathered before that very exam from some one, mostly cos of the near
demi-god that exam had been publicly proclaimed to be, I was so filled with
emotions, so getting there, questions like the last set above were asked,
cos of what I had gathered either in the group or elsewhere, I just type-in
the exact command as it appears in the exhibit I was shown ie something like
'Show running-configuration' instead of '1' . I had done this for about 5
very cheap questions until I realized my mistakes (then the tension had cold
down, cos I discovered that the exam was not a demi-god afterall), but you
know it is adaptative, I can't go back. I lost good 5 cheap questions. Well,
I passed with about 854.

So please, be calm, the exams are very simple, read your cisco press or any
material you are using very well. Close your pick up the pinted scheme for
that particular exam you must have downloaded from www.cisco.com or
elsewhere, look at the outline and see whether you can explain all the
topics, practice as many sample questions as possible, and you will fly at
the end of the day.

Regards.
Oletu

A friend of mine did the BCRAN at the same time as I did the BSCN a couple
of days ago. Both of the exams used the same format. Choose from an
indexed
 list of commands.
This still means that you may need to know the correct mode as some of the
commands are replicated at different modes. ie. The indexed list does
contain commands which are shown in the wrong mode.

When I did the BCMSN 2 months ago, it didn't use this format. Anybody know
if this has gone over to this format now? Some of the lads in the office
 were wondering.

Both my BCRAN and BSCN were choose from a list of commands.

And although I don't remember every single detail about every single
command, it should be obvious which commands are used in global
configuration mode, interface configuration mode, etc.

I agree with Patrick, I took the exam last friday and mostly I had to choose
from a list of command which is fairly easy if u know your commands. Study
PPP. That is what I had the most of. So Frame and a Few ISDN.. Also have
have to type in the commands once you choose them so be careful when tying
them. I know some of the commands right off but I had to remeber that I
could not abbreviate. Hope this helps.

2001-05-04 Thread W Jones

The main focus point as the Cisco course suggests is Remote Access.
If you can understand all that is listed in the Cisco Press book, you will
be okay.

Think remote access and study towards that and all will be well.

Jason,

Why do you perceive the 700 series as not being worth your time? Do you
believe that you'll never run into it in the field? Would it surprise you
to learn that several well known Enterprises have very large installed
bases of the 700 series? Given your presence on this mailing list I would
have assumed that you were about learning and acquiring knowledge. This
means knowing how to configure and troubleshoot older protocols such as
AppleTalk, DECNET, IPX and routers such as the 700. Despite claims to the
contrary there are still a large number of networks that aren't entirely IP
or running IOS-driven hardware.

When is Cisco going to EOL those piece of junks? Sure, sure, they're great
cheap desktop routers (ip ipx), but the 800 line isn't that much more.

OT: 700 rants and other things [Re: BCRAN exam [7:2890]

2001-05-03 Thread Jason Roysdon

I have a customer with 20 700s. I can't stand the beasts. They only
support IP IPX to the best of my knowledge. I dislike non-IOS based Cisco
routers ;-p I've gotten to know CatOS fairly well, plus that's on switches
so I'm already prepared for it when I have to deal with them ;-)'

Oh, I should rant about a customer today that has 50 3Com NetBuilder IIs
they want me to support. $%(@#%(#$ things. I'll spare you the details.
BTW: Did you know that the 10Base-T port on them doesn't support 10/100
autosensing hubs/switches/NICs? Just sits there and keeps resetting. Works
fine if you lock the speed on the other device (but that's no good on dumb
autosensing hubs/switches), or use a 10base-T device. Wait, did I say I
wasn't going to rant?

Let me just say that I enjoy learning new things and new technologies. TR
SNA is just killing me having to learn. What I love learning is technology
that I'll have my hands on at a fairly regular basis. VoIP has been a blast
like that. I haven't even looked deep into the CCIE to see if I need to
learn X.25. Gawd, I hope not. Can you even get X.25 anywhere anymore other
than third-world countries?

The 700s? Well, I just documented the very basic minimal commands to change
the IP/IPX info and Spids, and we just don't touch them otherwise ;-) They
just look so friendly like an 800, but down deep their evil little beasties.

ISDN sucks anyway. One day I think I know about all I need to regarding it,
and the next day my carrier is installing NT1s at certain locations! WTF is
with that? Since when do NA telco's install NT1s? I had to make them come
out and remove them all so my U-port ISDN devices will work (remember that
install I talked about at the end of last week? Yeah, took 3 hours to get
them to fess up that one site had NT1s and get them removed). Once it was
done, everything worked beautifully. Funny thing was that the SPIDs were at
locations 40 miles apart, but only the last digit was different and just one
lower than the other, and only one SPID per site (which made me think it was
a pair of SPIDs for just one side at first). ISDN, geeze.

Oh, regarding troubleshooting on the 700s, they suck for that. The 800
series and IOS-based debug kicks, which is yet another reason I hate 700s.
I bring my own 804 on 700 installs just so I can debug with a decent router.

Finally, the potential for them is so limited. Other than corporate remote
small offices, they're not much use (which, granted, has a large base, but
ISDN is far to slow for most these days). Step up to an 800 and you can get
NAT, QoS, Firewall, and even IPSEC.

Re: BCRAN [7:3118]

2001-05-03 Thread Circusnuts

The test is totally based on the Cisco Press BCRAN book. If you know it,
you'll do fine. The only advice I could give, is not to study too in-depth.
The test is broad, so instead of focusing on minute details... make sure you
generally know a little about everything. Don't forget your key commands
for trouble shooting each technology. I believe it's the BCRAN book, that
had the great end of chapter summaries. Boson's the Exam Cram helped me
prepare, but don't be fooled... it's all in the Cisco Press.

Good Luck

Kerry,
Search the groupstudy history, someone just asked the same question less
than a week ago. Anyways I liked McGraw Hill BCRAN book. I said BCRAN not
BCSN.
(Aparently the McGraw Hill BCSN really sucks and everyone rants about it I
just wanted to further clarify I liked the McGraw Hill BCRAN I never read
their BCSN I took the ACRC, so I don't know if that one is any good or not,
but I did like their BCRAN? McGraw Hill's BCRAN is basically the Ciscopress
BCRAN book, but easier to read)

Re: BCRAN

2001-01-10 Thread Cyrax

I am assuming you mean dialup access to the central site. If i am correct,
then you can configure it on your NAS. Now there are two ways i know you can
do this.

1) Local based AAA
2) Server based AAA

With the local based AAA setup, users are authenticated based on local AAA
IOS accounts. Here user accounts are stored in the router, also you are
limited to the set of AV pairs that are supported on that IOS.

On the other hand with the Server based AAA setup, users are authenticated
based on AAA negotiations between the router and the AAA server. In this
case, user/group profiles and accounting records can be stored in an
internal or externel database. You also have a wider array of AV pairs
supported. This is more of an enterprise solution.

Common AAA Servers are Tacacs+ and Radius, depending on requirements.

I hope this is hopeful.

Re: BCRAN COLT Question

2000-12-26 Thread Jim Erickson

Remember that the COLT questions are ones that didn't make the final cut on
the actual exams. Either because they were wrong, worded funny, too
difficult, or whatever. I personally wouldn't use the COLT exams as
indicators of my level of knowledge for a particular exam, but instead as a
general guide to the types of questions, and the manner in which they are
asked - "Cisco-speak", if you will. If you want something to measure your
knowledge level, and to point out areas in which you need futher study, grab
the Boson tests.

Re: BCRAN Questions

2000-12-23 Thread Adam Quiggle

VPDN was on CMTD, but not BCRAN (at least not that I've seen or heard). I
saw the outline in question on Cisco's web site a while ago, but so far as
I can tell, no one who has taken and reported back to this group that any
of these topics have appeared on the BCRAN exam.

I assumed that some Cisco employee inadvertently put this outline on the
web site and just forgot about it. I'm really quite surprised it is still
there after several months, especially since no one, specifically those who
provide certified Cisco training, are jumping to expand the outline of
their BCRAN material.

http://db.globalknowledge.com/catalog/outline.asp?course=5500cat=6

In addition if you look at the switching link:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/10/wwtraining/certprog/testing/pdf/bcmsn.pdf

you will see a requirement to understand DDR (Dial On Demand
Routing). This inconsistency just leads me to suspect that someone made a
mistake and just hasn't corrected it. Does anyone know anything different?

It is important to understand what is in the Cisco Press BCRAN book. Whilst the
little extra knowledge is hard to acquire once you have it it is easy to carry.

I found the BCRAN the most useful exam in my day to day life. Understanding the
different routers is not a bad thing.

my

but an errata is available from the authors)
also
Remote Access Study Guide by Buchmann et al (Syngress). They balance each
other quite well. You will find that one chapter
in
Quiggle maybe more detailed than Buchmann and vice versa. Quiggle is great
for"hands-on" (case studies and tips on how to hook up
a
BCRAN lab)memory-charts and exam-tips. Buchmann appears to be more
weighty but has a good layout for test prepping.
And
the book is supplied on the enclosed CD so you can pop it in ur pc
or laptop rather than break ur back with a ton-weight of

Re: BCRAN questions

2000-11-21 Thread Jason Roysdon

1) I would say B is the best answer. A could be true if you were using the
European model which expects the NT1 to be provided by the telco (so the BRI
is going to have 4-wire coming to it). A North American BRI would have the
NT1 integrated, so in that case the answer would be false.

2) I suck at OSPF, plus someone else answered already

3) Too late for me to think this one through, sorry.

4) d. Standard ACL can specify source/dest. ip. Extended adds source/dest.
ports.

5) a, you're right (the dialer-group's interesting traffic is defined by the
matching dialer-list ACL)

6) Dialer pools map dialer profiles to interfaces, or say what interfaces
are available for dialers (well, another way is to say interfaces specify
which pools they belong to). Interfaces (ie interface bri2/0) have a
setting called 'dialer priority.' Looks like they're right on that one.
