Stus-List Haul for Winter or not-do full-time in-water boat’s possibly suffer more from osmosis?

2019-09-03 Thread Christian Planton via CnC-List
My question is do full-time in-water boat’s possibly suffer more from
osmosis? I have gotten the reply that I should every few years to let the
hull dry out. What do boats in the tropics do?

Stus-List Temp Gauge diagram or replacement

2019-07-24 Thread Christian Planton via CnC-List
My heat gauge does not work but it is also inside on the interior bulkhead.
I am looking to replace it and move it were I can see it in the cockpit. It
is on a Yanmar 2GM20F

First I would like to see a diagram of the original to see if it is just
wired incorrectly.

Second any suggestions on a replacement?

Thank you

Re: Stus-List CnC-List Digest, Vol 157, Issue 59

2019-02-26 Thread Christian Planton via CnC-List
My boat is still in the water at Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club in Westport,
CT. We have a great bubblier system. Dirt cheap in the winter in a well
protected harbor. (It is open to the public to winter there. Half the
members pull their boats/ half don't) During Sandy our club house had two
feet of water but not a single boat that stayed in the water had damage.
Some that took their boats out in a neighboring town where floated of their
stands. Went down there yesterday at 10pm ish. The wind had pushed the
water out of the basin to a level I've never seen it that low. The docks
near shore where in the mud and you could see the bottom of the pilings. I
usually have water under my keel at low tide but last night it was in the
mud. Boat was upright held there by the dock lines. Luckly we have a soft
mud bottom. Lots of wind pushing about 100 or so boats with covers or
shrink wrap on. I saw no damage but a couple of kayaks and boards that were
not tied down well got blown around. Interesting to walk down those docks
with that much wind. They were getting pushed around. I looked like a
drunken sailor. Does anybody know of a yard that actually ties boats on the
hard down?

Hope the damage was minimal!

I have the butyl tape already for this summer to do the job. Was just

Re: Stus-List CnC-List Digest, Vol 147, Issue 101

2018-04-26 Thread Christian Planton via CnC-List
Dave Godwin,

My worry with butyl is that with all the movement of the plates it will
somehow not seal as well where its is not under as much compression. I was
toying with the idea of doing one side with butyl and the other with 4200.
To see which lwas easier to work with, lasted longer, and other stuff...My
plates look to have a plate that screws down around the plates that pass
thru the deck. I think all I have to do is lift that, clean well, and
rebed. It is a small leak.

Stus-List Standing rigging leak

2018-04-25 Thread Christian Planton via CnC-List
I have a small leak at the chain plate. Anybody tried to fix this with
something else than putting caulking around the base?

Stus-List Toe Rail water drain

2018-02-11 Thread Christian Planton via CnC-List
Thank you for all those who posted. I never even thought of using a wick.
Sometimes when you are out on your boat you tend to over think a problem.

I do have hardware that is leaking. In the spring/summer I am going to
rebed them. Fun times!

Thanks again,

Stus-List Toe rail water drain

2018-02-10 Thread Christian Planton via CnC-List
Hello everybody,

I am going to rebed my deck hardware. When I do I'm thinking of rebedding
the toe rail. Has anybody cut drain points into it so the water drains out.
I was even thinking of cutting 1/8" plastic strips and in a couple of
places "Lifting up" the toe rail to create a path for the water to drain.

I get puddles aft on both sides of the cockpit.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Stus-List Toe rail leak

2017-10-03 Thread Christian Planton via CnC-List
I know my toe rail leaks in a couple of places. Has anybody redone the
whole thing? If yes about how much time did it take you? I am going to try
to tighten the bolts first. If that doesn't work I'm going to take out each
bolt and try to get in there as much B-tape as possible and then tighten.
Any other thoughts or suggestions?

Stus-List Selling Catalina 27 bought C 34

2017-09-06 Thread Christian Planton via CnC-List
I was not in the market for a new boat but a friend of mine decided to sell
his C 34 for a price I could not pass up. The problem is I still have my
Catalina 27. It is a great boat and ready to go sailing. Universal Diesel.
I can send anybody who is interested a full list of the equipment. I will
let it go for a great price. If anybody knows someone looking I am a very
motivated seller. Wife is not happy we have a navy. To save my marriage I
have to sell this boat. The boat is in Connecticut on the Housatonic River.
