Ditto. Sailing or motoring in mid 90's is OK but sleeping on the boat just sucks. The Admiral and I just spent the weekend on Touche' in Pensacola. The 16KBTU Cruisair kept the boat pleasantly cool. Generally holds the cabin about 74 during the 100+ heat index days. At night it's always <70F below. We stay on the hook with our Caframo fans up until June 1. After that it's shore power and air conditioning. Dennis C. In parts of the far southern U.S., it's so hot that many people don't consider summer part of the sailing season. In fact, the cruising club I belong to in St Petersburg, Fl., suspends all sailing activities from June through early September because it is just too hot. Today, for example, the heat index hit 105. The temperature reached 92 with humidity in the 80s. The overnight low will be about 82, with a heat index in the upper 80s. A still night is like a sauna. In late July and August, it will be much worse. AC is the only way to survive a night on the boat. Jack Brennan Former C 25 Shanachie, 1974 Bristol 30 Tierra Verde, Fl. I wanted to go to Baltimore a few years ago to see the Indy Car race. Great marina a block from Camden Yards and the temporary race track. Built a platform for the foredeck to hold an extra window A/C we happened to have sitting around. Opened the hatch and fabricated sides to keep the air in….. worked like a charm – lots cheaper than a CruiseAir. Did it for three years until they discontinued the race. Re: Stus-List Fan Frustration!
I hear you. If it's that hot we switch to the 16,000 BTU CruisAir and set the thermostat on "meat locker". Of course, we need to be hooked to shore power. :( Dennis C. Re: Stus-List Fan Frustration!
As I said, I'm using it outside on hot days. It moves a lot of air, and noise doesn't matter much in that application. Inside, I'm using Boras. They are very quiet and use less power than the rest of the Caframo line. I have a Bora that is doing well too. The Sirocco is bigger and moves more air and some of them are quiet.
