Another nice feature with the Jabsco Y-valve is the adjustable outlets. I have
a photo on my blog showing the inlet coming up from below with one Y-outlet
going straight up to the deck for pump outs and the other Y-outlet coming out
horizontally with a short hose into the macerator.

Thanks all!

I have Forespar valves. I find them hard to impossible to turn. I'll see
how much room I have and go from there. I have to agree with Danny - If
Peggy and RC Collins agree there is a high probability they are right.

essentially as follows: 1) if space is an issue, go with Bosworth or Forespar
(Forespar preferred); 2) if space is not an issue, Jabsco is the best buy pick

I used the 101/102 on my boat. Although it can be a struggle there are some
things that mike it a bit easier to deal with. the heat gun will help it bend
a bit tighter and also help it slide over the fittings. heat the ends and use
the liquid soap and it will slide on fittings pretty easily. I think the
toughest scenario is a tight bend onto a fitting. I think it is good to have a
good 6 to 8 inches of a straight run into a fitting.

beyond that it is pretty straight forward. you need to be forceful routing it
and try not to bend it through any openings too tight. you'll probably feel
that you've had a bit of a workout in the end! LOL I know I did!

I researched and researched hoses and the consensus was trident 101/102 for
sanitation hose. I imagine every hose will have pros and cons. to me, the
deciding factors were recommendations from Peggie Hall and Mainesail.

Amazon has a 50 foot roll of 140 series Trident hose for $150. Any reason

Looking for recommendations on a Y valve. The bosworth seems like a good

This winter I am going to replace the sanitation hose and Y valves in
both

heads.

Amazon has a 50 foot roll of 140 series Trident hose for $150.  Any
reason

this is the wrong hose?  Anyone in Annapolis want to split a
roll?  (Beats

10/foot at the local stores)

Looking for recommendations on a Y valve.  The bosworth seems like a
good

option.  Anyone use them?

Stus-List Sanitation hose with wire

2017-11-06 Thread robert via CnC-List
Several of the hoses on my boat that are wired, I know because I either
put them there in the first place and/or replaced them, e.g. sanitation,
exhaust, scupper, etc.no hard or 90 deg. angle to try to
attach.like Paul E. cut with a hack saw, trim if necessary.I was
led to understand that these critical hoses should never get crushed,
obstructed, closed for any reason and therefore the wired hose was the
safest way to go.harder to compress a wired to stop the flow.

As for the Y-valve, I installed one on the boat 12 years ago and would
have to go to it to find out what brand/model it waswill get there
this week and get backbeen there 12 years and works fine for what
that is worth.

Re: Stus-List Sanitation hose and Y valves

2017-11-06 Thread Dreuge via CnC-List
Joel,

I have to agree with Danny. Trident 101 (or the white 102) is a much better
hose that Trident 140. I have worked with both and honestly I think working
with the white PVC sanitation hoses (i.e. 140) is a much great pain in the ass.

As for Y-valves, I have been real happy with the Jabsco Y-valve

Here is a quote from Maine Sail on Sailnet regarding sanitation hoses.

=
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do yourselves a favor and STOP USING THE WHITE PVC
SANITATION HOSE
<https://www.amazon.com/Trident-101-1124-Premium-Sanitation-Pressure/dp/B005FCIGG8>.
Unless you want to throw your hard earned money straight out the window this
stuff is PURE GARBAGE. It can odor permeate in as little as 12 months but
almost always in less than 2 years.

DO NOT USE:
Trident #148
Trident #140
Shields <https://www.brownells.com/search/index.htm?k=shields> #144
Shields #148
Clear PVC Anything

The above hoses are pure unadulterated JUNK and a wallet draining rip off.
Please stop supporting the companies that make this crap by purchasing it. It
is NOT a sanitation hose
<https://www.amazon.com/Trident-101-1124-Premium-Sanitation-Pressure/dp/B005FCIGG8>
no matter what they tell you.. If you want your vessel to smell like a
cess-pool go for it, otherwise use Trident #101 or Trident #102.

Do Use:
Trident #101 (black)
Trident #102 (white)

Eric,

Have you seen this:
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0419/9489/files/PS1312_War_Against_Head_Odors_2_reprint1404_web.pdf
?

This is a Practical Sailor's test. For whatever reason the PDF of the
results is available on that web site.

Despite the popular opinion that Trident 101/102 are the best out there,
other options were recommended even higher (e.g. Raritan).

Interesting results

Subject: Stus-List Sanitation hose

I am replacing the old sanitation hose from the pump out fitting to the hand
pump (used when we are offshore) and from the pump to the thru hull outlet.
The Trident Sani Shield seems to be a favorite (1.5 inches ID) but has a
bigger OD than other hoses. Does anyone know its OD? - it will be easier if
I don't have to make the hole it goes through (just plywood) bigger.

Best wishes to all the wonderful people on Stu's list for the holiday
season. I enjoy working on Cat's Paw on the hard during the winter as well
as the sailing season, and support from this group makes that much more
productive and fun.

Eric,

I just replaced a sanitation hose. I think I used Vetus. The wall was
about 1/4 inch, making the outside diameter 2 inches. I can measure a
piece of scrap in the next couple days. The Raritan is probably the most
flexible and is priced accordingly!

"I take it the "no 90deg bends" means no use ofa 90deg elbow. Does two 45 deg
elbows and a short section between them work?" To play it safe you could always
use the 2-45s and put a short piece of flexible pipe in between. However you
might be better off just making the whole turn with flexible tubing. PVC can
get more and more brittle over time and becomes very brittle in cold weather.
I think you have to deal with 90 degree turns as though they are a more fixed
connection.

I think it means the hose. I've been using PVC elbow in my system
without a problem for 10 years. You can get some ideas on my 'new tank

Peggie mentioned that lifetime waranty hose and said she would go with the
track record over the new product.  Meaning the Trident has been tried and true
for many years.  It is $9.92/ft. at Go2Marine.com for the black stuff.  They
don't appear to have the white version.

I went through several different revisions of sanitation hose in an attempt to
get rid of the smell.   In my experience, no matter what I did, marine grade
sanitation hose will permeate, in a sense that head will always smell like the
head.   I?ve been getting more and more advice from people in the industry and
liveaboards to go with Home Depot PVC plumbing.  Make sure there are no 90deg
bends, and use flexible hose in small sections where PVC attaches to rigid
elements (Toilet, through-hull, tank or macerator pump).  PVC does not permeate
any odor.

I have not done this yet, but I plan on doing it this offseason.  I live on the
boat, May through October and sleeping in the v-birth above stinky hose is not
fun.  This off season getting rid of the smell for good, is high on the
priority list.

Shields and Trident are different companies with products.  However, Bill
Shields is president of Trident Marine (Trident Rubber Inc.).

"Trident Rubber Inc. was founded by Bill Shields in 1985 in the Pittsburgh,
PA area. This followed a hostile takeover of Shields Rubber Corporation, a
third generation family business in which we owned the largest, but not
controlling interest. Shields Rubber was a large industrial rubber and hose
distributor with seven locations (two of which also specialized in marine
hose). Five years after the take over, Shields Rubber was sold, and its
marine hose division was spun off to Sierra Supply, then to Morse Controls,
and then to Teleflex. They remain a competitor with no family connection."

http://www.tridentmarine.com/stage/about.htm

Great information. I wondered if Trident and Shields had something in common,
product numbering looked similar.

Windburn was hauled on Saturday, so had a chance to contemplate using some PVC.
Looks like too many angles
and the only straight section has little access to get a piece in. I take it
the "no 90deg bends" means no use of
a 90deg elbow. Does two 45 deg elbows and a short section between them work?

If you talk with Peggie again, ask how it compare to Sealand Odorsafe
hose. Just wondering. Pose the question in a subservient manner,
because she loves to be pandered to, and gets belligerent if her
judgement is questioned.

Sealand changed suppliers for that product some years ago, but I managed
to get some original stuff, and it has been totally odor free for 10
years. (Some people might say I'm full of s___ and they might be right
but the hose seems to be bearing up under the strain.) The original
supplier is from Australia, and it might still be available under a
different brand.

Now, regarding Trident hose, I can say that it is much better than
Shields hose for all applications under the waterline. The walls are
significantly thicker. You get what you pay for.

For the five or six feet of hose I need ( C&C 30-1 ) the cost differential
