FWIW I like the multifunction nature of the i70. You can reconfigure the
display to include many or few data points, page through different layouts,
etc. One instrument rather than several, and with a nmea 2000 backbone its
future proof. (Ish).

Don’t have wind inst (yet) but would first try my single i70 with that, and add
a second if that wasn’t satisfactory.
Ymmv of course

Persistence has the i50/i60 series and previous boat had the ST60 series.

I50/i60 are very nice to use and easy to read. I think the ST60 is a bit more
robust though. The i50/i60 series are mounted with four tiny screws on the
corners that are covered by a bevel whereas ST60 had much more robust
fasteners. I would think that if you had to remove these each Fall this could
be a point of concern. Persistence is covered so I leave ours mounted making
this not a problem.

Functionally the i50/i60 are very good and I would not hesitate to go this
route again

2018-12-02 Thread Ken Heaton via CnC-List
Hi John,

When we purchased out boat back in 2010 it had a full suite of old Autohelm
ST50 instruments which had a number of issues so we replaced then all with
the following:

Nav Station – Raymarine i70 Multifunction Instrument

Cockpit – Cabin House aft bulkhead port: Raymarine i50 Speed and i50 Depth,
and i60 Wind Instruments, and House aft bulkhead starboard: i60 Close
Hauled Wind / VMG Instrument

Helm – Raymarine i70 Multifunction Instrument

The i70 installed at the Nav Station below and also at the helm let you
display anything that is on any of the other instruments, as well as some
any other data that may be on the network, such as AIS information, water
temperature, etc. We're please with the setup. If we replace our autopilot
controller and / or our Chartplotter at some point in the future we tie
those into the network too, so they can all work together.

As we had the i70 at the helm we didn't really need the i60 Close Hauled /
VMG but there was a hole in the bulkhead for it and I was used to having it
there so we got it anyway.

I like my Raymarine gear, st60 set if memory serves, about 6-8 years old
cant remember, onset of dementia maybe. I added a separate graphic display
to speed depth and wind in the package and that display is mostly used to
show apparent wind speed and apparent wind angle in big digits but
sometimes for sea temp and battery voltage. Anything or combinations of 4
things that the other 3 units measure.

advanced functions and integrates well with the Expedition planning software,

Re: Stus-List Instruments - Powerless

2018-06-15 Thread Jim Reinardy via CnC-List
Ray,

What brand and series of instruments are these? Do you know if it is NMEA 0183
or 2000? That will make some difference as to how the power is hooked up and
routed.

I would start simple though. Do you have a dedicated breaker or switch for the
instruments? The place to start by making sure you have power coming off the
terminals in your electrical panel. Trace those wires as best you can to find
what is on the other end. You likely have an issue somewhere in that main
power feed since multiple things are not working.

Where do you keep your boat? I am in the south section of McKinley so I might
be able to help you at some point. Hoping to spend some time down there this
weekend beyond racing tonight, but not sure what my schedule is yet.

Regards,

  Everyone:

Nice sunny day breezy day in Milwaukee. It would probably help tell what my
wind direction, depth and speed was if my instruments had power.

I finished the season with everything working. I tested everything and they
only thing that is not working is my wind/speed/ depth.

I never messed with the electrical so any one has advise on what to check for
before calling in the $$$ (marina people)?

Ray — are these Raymarine ST50/ST60 instruments by any chance? If so, they’re
all powered (and share data) over SeaTalk1 cabling. There should be a power
drop from the first instrument in the chain that runs to your DC panel and a
breaker there, probably labeled “Instruments” or “Electronics” or something
like that.  There may be an inline fuse after the breaker on this power drop;
if you can find one, see if it’s blown.

Otherwise, get us more info.

I have Wind and speed displays listed on theboatlist.org.  I recovered
them from my Redwing 35 (C 35-1). Contact me offlist if you are
interested.

I have a lot of other hardware on theboatlist.org available (Andersen
Self-tailing winches, electrical panels, etc.)

Harold,

I may have what you need. I removed a complete B system from my boat two
years ago. I still have all the pieces. Contact me off list and we can
discuss exactly what you need.

Does anyone have a B & G Harrier 6 boat speed and log cockpit instrument
surplus to their needs which I could purchase. I know that this is an old
instrument but for the amount of use it gets on my boat, I would like to
continue with this model. I know that the transducer is OK because the cabin
monitor gives a speed reading. The countdown function still operates on the
cockpit bulkhead. Or are there any suggestions for a transducer compatible
alternative, or at least with a transducer that fits the same thru hull.
Just hoping.
