[Cooker] Problems with dependencies in different prefixes
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I am seeing some problems with dependencies missing on grass built on current cooker (which is why we don't have 5.0.3 in cooker contrib at the moment). For example, compare grass-5.0.3 build on 9.1: $ rpm -qRp RPMS.mdk9.1/i586/grass-5.0.3-1mdk.i586.rpm xterm /bin/sh /bin/sh rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) = 4.0-1 rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) = 3.0.4-1 ld-linux.so.2 libcrypto.so.0.9.7 libcrypt.so.1 libc.so.6 libdl.so.2 libfftw.so.2 libfreetype.so.6 libgcc_s.so.1 libgdal.1.1.so libgd.so.2 libGL.so.1 libGLU.so.1 libgpm.so.1 libgrass5.so.0 libhistory.so.4.3 libICE.so.6 libjpeg.so.62 libm.so.6 libncurses.so.5 libnsl.so.1 libodbc.so.1 libpng.so.3 libpq.so.3 libpthread.so.0 libreadline.so.4.3 libresolv.so.2 libSM.so.6 libssl.so.0.9.7 libstdc++.so.5 libtcl8.3.so libtermcap.so.2 libtiff.so.3 libtk8.3.so libungif.so.4 libX11.so.6 libXext.so.6 libXm.so.2 libXmu.so.6 libXpm.so.4 libXp.so.6 libXt.so.6 libz.so.1 libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.0) libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1) libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1.3) libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.2) libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3) libm.so.6(GLIBC_2.0) to a package built on cooker from the same SRPM: $ rpm -qRp RPMS.mdk10.0/i586/grass-5.0.3-1mdk.i586.rpm xterm /bin/sh /bin/sh rpmlib(PartialHardlinkSets) = 4.0.4-1 rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) = 4.0-1 rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) = 3.0.4-1 So, only manual dependencies and pre/post script dependencies are taking effect on cooker. I just rebuilt the grass-5.0.2-1mdk SRPM that is currently in contrib on klama, and again the binary package misses all the automatic deps, while the binary in contrib itself has the correct deps (from when it was built on klama a few months ago). So, something is definitely broken. [Cooker] Problems with new kde 3.1.93
Hi I've just updated the packages to kde 3.1.93 on my system and now I seem to have lost anti-aliased fonts, along with icons on the menu items (icons on the hierarchies are ok, but the actual programs seem to have no icon with them). I've also lost the ability to use the k control centre, all that appears is a Network menu with nothing in it! Whats up??! Cheers cris.

Sorry, I think you misanderstood what I would say (ah my english ...) : I have access to all configuration items using entries which are presents in Start-Configuration - KDE. Kcontrol still doesn't work. I added, as remark, that I had two submenus named Sytem : - The first one with Crypto and Passwords items. - The second one with Date, Fonts and Paths items. Hope this is more understandable in this way ;-( ? Sébastien. [Cooker] Problems with 2.4.22-21mdk
Since upgrading to 2.4.22-21mdk from stock 9.2 kernel I have had cyrus-imapd stop multiple times, and require a database recovery before it would accept new mail. JA Anyone seen similar issues, or have any possible ideas what could be causing JA this? Maybe this has nothing to do with kernel, most probably the problem is with some other updated package. I had a similar issue a while ago with 8.2 but it turned out to be a problem with a bad memory.

You see, even though the crecord.old binary has exactly the same permissions, it is allowed to set the scheduling, while the v2.0 'cdrecord' isn't. What's more interesting is that I can execute the 'cdrecord' as root. Then, it *does* set the scheduling. However the buffer *is not 100% full* , as it should have been. The 'nice' value (eid=0=root) is still 0, but no warning. I haven't gone into the source code yet (I believe I must fetch your tree just to keep in sync) but I have the feeling that cdrecord 2.0 does not perform the correct sequence of actions needed to set its priority. Did v1.1 have the same threads v2.0 has?

[Cooker] Problems with RC1...
I never got any messages from Bugzilla letting me in, and I'm not sure what modules I'd blame for this anyway... but I've gotten some fairly new hardware to turn into a new system and run into a few problems. I'm hoping that by the final release of 9.2 these problems might not exist anymore - this is from a post I made to a private newsgroup: I didn't believe I could do it, but it appears that I may have finally stepped just beyond the bleeding edge of current Linux capabilities with this sytem. It all comes down to device drivers of course, and the apparent inability of hardware manufacturers to write ones for Linux for their current hardware. I found 3rd party drivers for my ATI 9600 Pro that appear to work.The ones out of the RC1 (or 9.1) distro did not - simply didn't even load X, even though it did recognize the card as some form of Radeon. http://www.schneider-digital.de/html/download_ati.html,get the glx1_linux_X4.3.zip package. Those worked. The 9.2RC1 of Mandrake Linux contains support for the Serial ATA (so did 9.1, sort of, but it didn't work very well) on my Gigabyte GA-7NNXP (Athlon XP) board.I haven't tried the hardware RAID under 9.2, but I'm not especially hopeful - it wasn't recognized under 9.1 at all. The Intel-based gigabit ethernet controller was recognized... The nVidia nForce2 Ultra400 based 10/100 network port is recognized by the LAN automatic sensing thing in 9.2...but the install program gets all weird and doesn't seem to be doing anything.,It see's it, asks if it's the only one (at that point, yes), and then asks what you'd like to install... Dialup, DSL, Cable or LAN... endless loop time. It doesn't offer a cancel option either. Three-fingered salute appeared to be the only option. This was after the install, when I deactivated the Gigabit controller in hopes that Harddrake would look beyond it to find the 10/100 controller. The nForce2 stuff seems to be making it's way onto a lot of boards, so I'm hoping that drivers for it show up. Frustrating for me, but I hope it gives Mandrake some things to look at to make their very good distro the best, most comprehensive one out there.

The nForce2 stuff seems to be making it's way onto a lot of boards, so I'm hoping that drivers for it show up. Nvidia will not release the spec for the port, which is why there's no open source driver. Drakconnect recognises it because there's a closed-source driver provided by Nvidia which it will deal with if you install it yourself; the driver is nvnet, part of the nforce driver suite you can get from nvidia.com (not the same thing as the nvidia graphics driver). Download the .tar.gz, extract it and just run make and make install from the nvnet subdirectory; don't bother with the nvaudio module, it's not necessary and it can be a pain to build. Frustrating for me, but I hope it gives Mandrake some things to look at to make their very good distro the best, most comprehensive one out there. Mandrake would not carry nvnet in its free version on ethical grounds (no non-free software in free Mandrake). It may be included in the box sets, I'm not sure. -- adamw

[Cooker] Problems in drakxtools regarding ltmodem
I would like to see ltmodem support out-the-box for boxed sets, and have working packages, that with drakconnect (on beta2) do most things right (drakconnect will install them when a ltmodem is found if they are accessible by urpmi). The problem is still that drakconnect for some reason insists on making a link for /dev/modem (at present it asks you which of 8 serial ports to use, or if /usr/lib/libDrakx/network/modem.pm is patched, whatever device is listed there for ltmodem, in 9.1 this was ttyS14), and this breaks auto-loading of the lt_serial module (which works via 'alias /dev/modem lt_serial' in modules.conf, and registering the symlink via devfs). With the current status, the modem will work fine after configuration by drakconnect (I assume it loads the module), but on next boot it is broken. I can add 'lt_serial' to /etc/modules in %post instead, but this should not be necessary. Can someone please fix this? (or make a better ltmodem package). Hmm, I have tried some fixes (to network/modem.pm), but am not sure I have tested correctly ... so I am not sure if my attempts to fix worked or not .. will need to test more before I submit a patch since it seems I will have to uninstall the ltmodem packages for each test, and you *must* reboot to see if it works afterwards. Anyway, the current srpm can be found here: http://ranger.dnsalias.com/mandrake/cooker/ltmodem-8.26a9-3mdk.src.rpm (BTW, this is all on beta2 ... will try to update to cooker tomorrow) Regards, Buchan -- |Registered Linux User #182071-| Buchan MilneMechanical Engineer, Network Manager Cellphone * Work+27 82 472 2231 * +27 21 8828820x121 Stellenbosch Automotive Engineering http://www.cae.co.za GPG Key http://ranger.dnsalias.com/bgmilne.asc 1024D/60D204A7 2919 E232 5610 A038 87B1 72D6 AC92 BA50 60D2 04A7 * Please click on http://www.cae.co.za/disclaimer.htm to read our e-mail disclaimer or send an e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for a copy. *

I even went and checked the Cooker development page to make sure I was using the right URL (ftp://ftp.linux-mandrake.com/incoming/). The address resolves to 63.209.80.249, on a few different nameservers, so I assume the problem is with the FTP server itself--either it's down, or it's been incredibly busy. I've already sent out the emails for these packages; when I get back later today, I'll try the uploads again.
Re: [Cooker] problems with compiling kernel 2.4.21-0.13mdk (from 9.1)
Well, I've filed an incident report (btw, Mandrake soft should *REALLY* streamline their bugtracking facilities, it's too painful to report any problem right now) but it seems that nobody's interested (which is strange, since it looks like a major nuisance to me). I really don't know what else can we do. I'm going off the list now, so please, Cc: me from now on. Thanks, Roman. [Cooker] Problems changing colours in Galaxy theme gtkrc (GTK2)
I don't know if this is a valid bug or not, but I'll report it anyway :) I am having trouble changing the colours in the GTK2 Galaxy theme. In /usr/share/themes/Galaxy/gtk-2.0/gtkrc, I can change the colours by modifying the fg, bg, base and text values. For the most part that works fine. However, if I change the colour for bg[NORMAL] (which by default is #E6E7E6) the Galaxy buttons (including combo boxes and drop-down menu buttons) stop working in my GTK2 apps. Instead, I get the default GNOME button theme, with the colour I selected. The scrollbars stay as Galaxy. This does not happen if I modify the GTK1 version of Galaxy, so I think this may be a bug with the GTK2 version. -- Sridhar Dhanapalan [Yama | http://www.pclinuxonline.com/] Windows XP is not an operating system. [Cooker] Problems with the xserver
Very often now when running xemacs and mozilla simultaneously the following situation arrises. (This is with latest cooker, but has been happening for a couple of months now.) o I cannot type in mozilla, i.e. text entry fields stop working. I can fix this by o Switching to a terminal and typing some random characters. When I return to mozilla I can type again. o At the same time xemacs looses contact with the server and spits out a bunch of messages like the following: == xemacs: X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) Major opcode of failed request: 25 (X_SendEvent) Resource id in failed request: 0x2600399 Serial number of failed request: 437549 Current serial number in output stream: 437550 Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x6ad2e)! xemacs: X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) Major opcode of failed request: 18 (X_ChangeProperty) Resource id in failed request: 0x2600399 Serial number of failed request: 437548 Current serial number in output stream: 437550 The really bad thing is that xemacs does not autosave when this happens and I am repeatedly loosing work. hi this happens to me too, its very strange, I thought it was due to me having a recompiled mozill with gcc 3.2, but the problem exists with the normal cooker mozilla too - its only recently started happening for me though. [Cooker] problems making kde 3.1.1 rpms
I'm working in create the kde 3.1.1 rpms, based from MDK 9.1 (Cooker) SRPMS, and found a problem with kdelibs. While I'm not an expert probably is something stupid, but here it comes. I'm compiling the RPMS as a user, arts compile without problem. Have to remove (as commentary) some patches references from the kdelibs specfile, which were #208, 210-218, 220-223. Without them kdelibs compiled without problem, also got in the routine to generate the kdelibs documentation from Rawhide (8.1) SRPMS. The documentation is also created without problem. But after compilation it gives me this error: make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/me/rpm/BUILD/kdelibs-3.1.1' + install -d -m 0755 /home/me/rpm/tmp/kdelibs-3.1.1-1drk-root//usr/share/icons/mdk-hicolor/ + install -m 0644 /home/me/rpm/SOURCES/kdelibs-3.O-mdk-hicolor-index.desktop /home/me/rpm/tmp/kdelibs-3.1.1-1drk-root//usr/share/icons/mdk-hicolor/index.desktop /home/me/rpm/tmp/rpm-tmp.54272: line 38: unexpected EOF while looking for matching ``' error: Bad exit status from /home/me/rpm/tmp/rpm-tmp.54272 (%install) RPM build errors: Bad exit status from /home/me/rpm/tmp/rpm-tmp.54272 (%install) the file kdelibs-3.O-mdk-hicolor-index.desktop is at the right place and the copy it creates (index.desktop) its also at the place supposed to be found. [Cooker] Problems with harddrake
When I try to run harddrake It dies. Here is the output: Name harddrake::data::tree used only once: possible typo at /usr/sbin/harddrake2 line 201 (#1) (W once) Typographical errors often show up as unique variable names. If you had a good reason for having a unique name, then just mention it again somehow to suppress the message. The our declaration is provided for this purpose. sbus_probing::main::prom_walk() called too early to check prototype at /usr/lib/libDrakX/sbus_probing/main.pm line 126 (#2) (W prototype) You've called a function that has a prototype before the parser saw a definition or declaration for it, and Perl could not check that the call conforms to the prototype. You need to either add an early prototype declaration for the subroutine in question, or move the subroutine definition ahead of the call to get proper prototype checking. Alternatively, if you are certain that you're calling the function correctly, you may put an ampersand before the name to avoid the warning. See perlsub. sbus_probing::main::prom_walk() called too early to check prototype at /usr/lib/libDrakX/sbus_probing/main.pm line 127 (#2) Use of uninitialized value in hash element at /usr/lib/libDrakX/sbus_probing/main.pm line 91 (#3) (W uninitialized) An undefined value was used as if it were already defined. It was interpreted as a or a 0, but maybe it was a mistake. To suppress this warning assign a defined value to your variables. To help you figure out what was undefined, perl tells you what operation you used the undefined value in. Note, however, that perl optimizes your program and the operation displayed in the warning may not necessarily appear literally in your program. For example, that $foo is usually optimized into that . $foo, and the warning will refer to the concatenation (.) operator, even though there is no . in your program.
