Re: [Cooker] VMware 4.0 fails to install on anything but standard kernel
when you compile VMWARE it does a check btween the version of the kernel you are running version 2.4.22-6mdk-i686-up-4GB and /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h if I remember correctly. Simply change the version.h to match your runnign kernel description BErnard Robert Fox wrote: > When I use the vmware config tool - it complains about the header file > being wrong. I don't brigde the wireless, I bridge the built-in ethernet card. Also be reminded that it works fine in Mandrake 8.2 and if I use 9.0 with the 8.2 kernel (2.4.18-6) is works fine. - Original Message - From: "Ben Reser" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, October 04, 2002 9:53 PM Subject: Re: [Cooker] VMWare on Mandrake 9.0 > On Fri, Oct 04, 2002 at 09:03:50PM -0400, o beckles wrote: > > VMWare's bridged networking does not work properly on my Toshiba Sat. > > Pro 6100. I am using vmware with current cooker kernel-2.4.19.9mdk-1-1mdk VMwareWorkstation-3.1.1-1790 I am using bridged networking, and I had to compile the kernel modules (using vmware-config.pl). Re: [Cooker] vmware wont compile
Make sure that when prompted for the path to the kernel headers you use: /lib/modules//build That is supposed to be set to the place the kernel-source package installs. Of course, I don't use the Mandrake kernel packages so YMMV. I actually got it working using the stock Mandrake kernel (although I had previously run your makeoldconfig, make dep suggestion and was still having problems). The catch is to specify the correct directory spec for the include files. It's /usr/src/linux/include. Once I got that right, the rest went smoothly. When I do this it complains that my kernel is 11mdksmp and my inculdes are for 11mdk. See error below. Keith The directory of kernel headers (version 2.4.0-11mdk) does not match your running kernel (version 2.4.0-11mdksmp). Consequently, even if the compilation of the module was successful, the module would not load into the running kernel. Cooker is the always changing development version of Mandrake (now 7+). Before a package makes it as an Air update, it is tested in cooker. This is also the meaning of the decimal 0.7 build number, not ready for prime time. When it is, the build number will be pumped up to 1, and the 2.2.15-1mdk will appear as an Air update. Now, this is mainly a guess, anyone correct me if I am wrong. -=- kk1 __ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
