Re: [CnD] Flat top stoves
The best method I have found to find burners on a flat top stove is to place the pan where you think the burner is then turn the heat on low until you feel it. Just a tip, when something is boiling on the burner the pans tend to dance so I have learned to put a lid on the handle of the pan to keep it still. -Original Message- From: Wendy via Cookinginthedark [mailto:cookinginthedark@acbradio.org] Sent: Sunday, June 5, 2016 6:42 PM To: cookinginthedark@acbradio.org Cc: Wendy Subject: [CnD] Flat top stoves How do you find the burners on flat top stoves. Re: [CnD] Flat top stoves
I use the heat. I put the pot/pan on the burner, then turn it on. If there's heat coming from one edge of the pot, I move it until the heat stops. By doing this, I can easily center the pot, or determine (for a new stove or pot/pan) if the burner is too large or small for the current use. I used to hate this kind of cooktop, but honestly, I've gotten so used to doing this now that I think nothing of it. > On Jun 5, 2016, at 19:42, Wendy via Cookinginthedark > wrote: > > How do you find the burners on flat top stoves. I have been using a flat-top stove for many years. In fact, I'm using my second flat-top stove. I love it! You can pretty much feel where the burner is by raising your hand above the burner and with practice, and it's infinitely easier to clean and maintain! Re: [CnD] Flat top
Hello, I use a range that has no buttons or switches. What I did to make it accessible is a small list of actions to make this range accessible. I bought a piece of a plastic type of material named Lexann. I bought this at home depot I believe, (a big box store). Next I marked places on the Lexann that corresponded with the touch spots. I then drilled holes in the Lexann so that I could put my finger tip in the hole and thereby touch the touch spots. Next, I used Velcro adhered to the panel with the touch spots. The velcro was adhered to the Lexann. Thus, the Velcro on the Lexann stucked to the Velcro on the panel. To protect the position of the template, I made a strip of wood to be under the Lexann so that if anyone pressed down on the Lexann template, the wood not permit the template from moving down. This may sound complicated, but I can utilize every feature of the stove. Then I felt around the burner to see what was hot. I then put my fingers around the pot on the flat surface and judged how much room there was between the sides of the stove and the pot. I am able to put my four fingers flat on the stove glass and not get burned. I hope this helps. However, even if your stove doesn't have such markings, you can use it successfully with a little practice. Hold your hand a few inches above the burner to feel the location of the heat, and then place your pan accordingly. I find I do this just as much as I position pans according to the lines surrounding my burners. hth, Erin -- From: "Dhunthausen" Sent: Monday, December 28, 2009 10:36 PM To: Subject: [CnD] flat top stoves Do any of you have experience using a flat top stove with no vision? Are there any techniques that make it easier to navigate the burners?
