Re: [CnD] Flat top stoves

2016-06-06 Thread Louise Ervin via Cookinginthedark
The best method I have found to find burners on a flat top stove is to place
the pan where you think the burner is then turn the heat on low until you feel
it. Just a tip, when something is boiling on the burner the pans tend to dance
so I have learned to put a lid on the handle of the pan to keep it still.

Sugar's Grape Salad

I make this for a crowd, but you can make half...

Ingrediants:
4lbs of grapes(seedless)
I use 2lbs of green and 2lbs of the red
1 8ounce cream cheese(room temperature)
16ounce sour cream
1tea spoon of vanilla extract
1Cup of sugar
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/2cup of sliced pecans(candied is optional)

Directions:
Wash and clean grapes thoroughly.
Place them on a tea towl or paper towl to dry completely.

While they are drying take a bowl and mix in cream cheese, sour cream, vanilla
extract and sugar.
Mix well until creamy with a hand mixer.

When grapes are dried well, place grapes in a large bowl and pour the mixture
slowly while mixing it all together.

Once all is covered add the brown sugar and pecans and stir around once again.

Refridgerate a bit before serving,so that the creaminess get's a bit thick.
Enjoy

I use the heat. I put the pot/pan on the burner, then turn it on. If there's
heat coming from one edge of the pot, I move it until the heat stops. By doing
this, I can easily center the pot, or determine (for a new stove or pot/pan) if
the burner is too large or small for the current use. I used to hate this kind
of cooktop, but honestly, I've gotten so used to doing this now that I think
nothing of it.

I have been using a flat-top stove for many years. In fact, I'm using

the burner is by raising your hand above the burner and with practice,
and it's infinitely easier to clean and maintain!

I heartily second Penny’s opinion about flattopatoves. Very soon with your
quick fingers, you can tell if the pot needs to be slightly moved to
accommodate the burner. And they are certainly a breeze to clean!

It can be done, certainly. Buttons are a good point; most modern stoves/ovens
include flat, touch-screen or similar controls. I have to mark them with that
craft paint that puffs up, and re-apply the marks even so often. It works, but

Re: [CnD] Flat top

2015-11-10 Thread Gary Patterson via Cookinginthedark
Hello, I use a range that has no buttons or switches. What I did to make it
accessible is a small list of actions to make this range accessible.

I bought a piece of a plastic type of material named Lexann.
I bought this at home depot I believe, (a big box store).

Next I marked places on the Lexann that corresponded with the touch spots.

I then drilled holes in the Lexann so that I could put my finger tip in the
hole and thereby touch the touch spots.

Next, I used Velcro adhered to the panel with the touch spots. The velcro was
adhered to the Lexann. Thus, the Velcro on the Lexann stucked to the Velcro on
the panel.

To protect the position of the template, I made a strip of wood to be under the
Lexann so that if anyone pressed down on the Lexann template, the wood not
permit the template from moving down.

This may sound complicated, but I can utilize every feature of the stove.

Hi, Dannielle,
There have been many posts in the past about flat top stoves, but, I'll
share my experience briefly here. I have a flat top; the burners are
slightly textured, the surrounding area is smoother, the opposite of what
some one else just said. It depends on the brand of the stove. The best
way is to place the pan on the cold surface about where you think the burner
is, then turn on the heat and feel above the surface surrounding the pan to
use the radiant heat to guide you to center the pan. Because you aren't
touching the stove surface, only the sides of the cool pan, you won't be in
any danger of burning yourself.

Be safe! Hope this helps.

Does your friend have a large family or cook a lot? This could be very
useful at times around here!

I have a friend who has a stove that has two burners. well it has four but
it has 8. okay confused yet? ea each burner has a large and a small in the
middle so you can do four small pots or four large pots. it also has a
warming plate in the middle of the stove. I would never use her stove.

Hunthausen,
When I first got my flat top stove I turned on all the burners once at a
time to see which dial was for whichburner. Then I turned on the burners
and put a pot on each of them. Then I felt around the burner to see what
was hot. I then put my fingers around the pot on the flat surface and
judged how much room there was between the sides of the stove and the pot. I
am able to put my four fingers flat on the stove glass and not get burned.
I hope this helps.
Diane

[CnD] flat top stoves

2009-12-28 Thread Dhunthausen
Do any of you have experience using a flat top stove with no vision? Are there
any techniques that make it easier to navigate the burners? Thanks

I purchased a flattop stove which has lines raised around each burner.
However, even if your stove doesn't have such markings, you can use it
successfully with a little practice. Hold your hand a few inches above the
burner to feel the location of the heat, and then place your pan
accordingly. I find I do this just as much as I position pans according to
the lines surrounding my burners.
