Hi I saw a name of an air fryer on a face book group but I do not remember
where.
It was called trimar.
When I had someone look it up they did not find this air fryer.
Has anyone heard of this one?
Thanks.

Re: [CnD] Air fryers

2020-04-01 Thread Lora Leggett via Cookinginthedark
I got my Cooks Essential air fryer in 2016 from QVC.
It has a round button in the center and two smaller buttons on each side of
that button.
So the two smaller buttons are going up and down on each side of that middle
button.
You use combinations of pressing the middle button then one of those other four
buttons to use the pre-sets or change the time and temperature manually.
It beeps whenever you press them. The original cookbook was not accessible
with either Jaws or NVDA when I tried to download it.
I am not sure where my print one went in this house.
So I am really happy that I can get air fryer books now and that recipes are
coming out in my groups.
Mostly, I find it is a big help with frozen things like egg rolls, chicken
patties, fish and other premade things one would normally have to use the oven
to make.
My unit also came with a little wire rack that I call a grill. My friend got
the same fryer but his came with a so-called cake pan that we called a bowl.
Later, when he moved to another state, I called QVC who put me in touch with
Cooks Essentials. I gave them the model number and bought another wire rack
and cake pan so we each would have our own.

Yes, I forgot to respond to your inquiry about smart fryers. There are a number
now that can be interface with Alexa, but they do pump up the price. I read a
very good review a few months ago on AppleVis. I think I saved it for later
reference to share, if you want me to dig it up I can, but it's not the type of
thing I would be willing to spend extra money for when I can do fine with mine
currently.

Re: [CnD] Air fryers

2020-04-01 Thread Tiffany Jessen via Cookinginthedark
I have the cooks essential from QVC as well. In fact three of my blind friends
also have it, without any of us knowing what models the other had. The buttons
are arranged in a circle, evenly spaced far apart. The five of the top of the
circle, obviously shaped like a rainbow, are presets for different foods, and
the bottom five are used for manually adjusting the settings. The one directly
at the bottom of the circle is the power button, the two on the one side adjust
the temperature and the two on the other side adjust the time. Honestly I just
push power a Second time to start and set Alexa to remind me when to retrieve
the food, again using power to turn it off in four seconds,, but The buttons do
beep as you push them, and there are no knobs or other things to worry about.
My friend has hers in white, and mine is more like turquoise. She is able to
see a little, so with the contrast, she can see the screen light up on mine,
but not hers. I have no light perception and use it just fine. If you want me
to email the list of presets, I can look them up. I honestly don’t bother with
them, but have written them down. Each one has a different temperature and time.

In the summer of 1918 I got a Nuwave Pro. I don't know the model number, but
if you can find it, it just has buttons and nothing changes to create new
programs unexpectedly. Once you know the buttons you are set to go. I like
it a lot for its air frying abilities. It comes with a recipe book to show
you how to make different kinds of things with the machine.

Apparently that client had one not only with a touchpad but an on-screen
menu as well. Very bad buy until those start getting accessible. The
older touchpads didn't run menus, but the menus on lots of appliances
have joined the touchpad to further complicate accessibility.

You'll need sighted help, but you can mark the touch screen of an Air

I think there may be some models with buttons, though.

I bought one several years ago that has two knobs. One is a timer & the other
is the temp. I don’t remember the brand, but got it from Amazon.

Don’t forget that Aira can help & you get 5 minutes of free help from an agent.u

I bought mine online so I could make monthly payments on it so I don't know if
they are sold in local stores. I know the smaller 6 QT or five point something
QT might be sold in stores, but I wanted the largest one.

It stirs on its own. The model is called the Tefal actifry and there are
only two buttons on the unit. One is to turn it on and off and the other
is for an independent timer which I personally never use. It's extremely
blind friendly and easy to use.

Cheers

Re: [CnD] air fryers and fries

2019-01-18 Thread Andrew Niven via Cookinginthedark
Hi Andrew.

I've had an air fryer for some years. I use an original Tefal Actifry. I
like this model as it has a stirring paddle. Unfortunately, the paddle
can break up crumbed or battered items, so I have an accessory snacking
basket which can be used in place of the paddle for such foods. Hope
this helps.

Cheers

Andrew

The air fryer kind of reminds me of the Jet Stream oven, a round electric air
cooker, with a noisy motor. It was nice, but I eventually got rid of it after
some time.

Re: [CnD] air fryers and fries

2019-01-18 Thread Ann via Cookinginthedark

Mine does look a lot more like a counter top oven, but as far as I
know, they all use the same type of air flow technology.

Some people have even called them just small counter top convection
ovens. I don't care what it's called, I just know it works very well so
they can call it what they like.

Hi,

I have the 8 QT Power Air Fryer oven, and it gets used at least twice each day,
It really does look like a small counter top oven. if not more. It comes with
three trays or Air flow racks, a rotisserie, a set of ten skewers, and one
extra large basket that fits in to the rotisserie slot. I had sighted help to
label my most used settings on the touch screen, but I will admit that it took
me quite a while to get used to the touch screen because it is so very
sensitive.

I believe there may be air fryers that still use buttons and not a touch
screen, though, but I was not sure if they had the rotisserie feature, and let
me tell you, I can make wonderful rotisserie chicken. The tough part is finding
chickens that will fit, so I've eaten a lot of game hens lately. LOL!

Actually I have had very good luck with frozen and fresh cut fries in my Power
air Fryer oven. I just put them in the rotating basket, but sometime soon I
will also try them just lying on one or two of the air flow racks and see how
they turn out. I just use the French Fry setting, which on my Air fryer means
400 degrees for 15 minutes.

LOL!

air Fryer oven. I just put them in the rotating basket, but sometime soon I
will also try them just lying on one or two of the air flow racks and see how
they turn out. I just use the French Fry setting, which on my Air fryer means

Re: [CnD] air fryers and fries

2019-01-18 Thread Sugar Lopez via Cookinginthedark
Hi Andrew
I am also planning to purchase an air fryer but there is so many out there and
seems they do more than just fry.
So it's taking me some time.
So yes any suggestions of what style and which one is being used would be
appreciated.

As for fries, I have done them in the past.
I usually make wedges and yes I always leave the skin on.

I cut the potato long ways and keep cutting them in to the thickness of my
choice.
I don't cut them to thin and then I place a bit olive oil in a pan and let it
got hot
Then I place the fries in the pan until crispy.

Another way to cook them is:
place them once they are cut in to a zip lock baggie. Place seasonings, oil in
it and shake the bag up till they're all covered with the mixture.

then off to a cookie sheet the go and in to the oven for about 45 minutes or
so at 350 degrees.
My oven is set at 350 by default since it is an electric one so I don't really
bother with changing the temp much
Good luck

[CnD] air fryers?

2018-06-30 Thread Ann via Cookinginthedark

Hi folks,

Well, after more years than I'm going to say, my trusty old, really old,
deep fryer has finally gone to cooking heaven. And I was wondering if
anyone has any experiences with these air fryers I keep hearing about?
I'm sure that there are none that are truly accessible, but are any of
these even marginally usable for a totally blind person?

Thanks for any advice,

~Ann

I found an omelet maker at Wal-Mart and it is great in the microwave. I
think it was around $7 or so, but I don't remember for sure now. I would
love to find one made out of glass or ceramic instead of plastic. The
concept works really well, but I don't like cooking in plastic because of
health concerns. Meanwhile, I am using the plastic version. I didn't know
Tupper Ware had one too, but do know their version is more expensive than
the one I found.

I ordered an Air Fryer from QVC last week and it has not been delivered yet.

It is the 1500 wat model.

I heard a demonstration on it, and the Philips fryer on the ACB show.

This is why I decided to go with the QVC model.

I like French fries, but I will not use a deep fat fryer.

I am curious to try it.

It sounds like a convection oven on steroids.

The fryer was around $116.00 not on sale. There was tax and a $7.00
shipping charge.

I will give my opinion after I use it for a while.

-

On a different note,

the pressure cooker has got my attention too, being that my mother used one
when I was a kid.

Hi,

Yes you can do frozen French fries. Yum!

You use the basket for things that it does not matter if the oil drips through.

You can make things such as biscuits, macaroni and cheese, desserts, etc. I
would use a pan for them.

As far as using accessories, if you have an oven-proof dish that would fit in
the basket, you should be able to use it instead of a pan.

pan for. I couldn't find any information on where to get the other pans. My air
fryer is a Farberwear. I asoome that you would use the basket for anything that
you are frying with a breading. I also wish that they had put more information
in the book about doing any frozen foods. I especially wanted to know if you

Qvc has an air fryer, as their Today's Special Value today.
I'd never heard of this, so I'm wondering how well they work.

Claudia,

I believe that this one is a new unit. They had an earlier version. I have been
told that it actually has buttons on it. If I did not have one, I would
consider purchasing it. I read some of the comments and questions on Facebook
and it seems like we could use it.

Be sure to ask the customer service representatives any questions you have.

Shannon, how does the timer work? I know you said it is raised, but
is there a way to set it without vision? Forgive my ignorant
question. I've never seen one of these fryers, and have been
considering getting one, but didn't know about the timers on them.

Thank you, Charis and Shannon; both answers were very helpful.
Shannon, I don't read my e-mails all that often, either, , so I
understand where you're coming from. It's good that that timer allows
you to set it in one minute increments. I can count up to five, so
I'm good! :-)

When I read up on these types of fryers a couple years ago, I thought
the instructions said that you should only use frozen food, rather
than fresh, but I think one of you recently mentioned using a homemade
recipe; is that correct? If so, how do the two types compare? Does
the frozen food come out crispier than fresh food?

I just may treat myself to one of these machines when my birthday
rolls around! .

Jennifer,
Sorry for taking so lon to get back to you I don't read my e mails that
often.
There are only the two buttons on the top of the fryer near the back. they
are raised when off and when pushed in they are on. For the timer button you
just push it down as many times as and each is one minute. Then like the on
off button you push it in all the way and the timer starts. The instructions
are really simple and it also came with a nice cookbook.

I am not that great at explain things so I hope I didn't screw up. smile

Hi Roberta,
I have been using my Actifry for a few years now and I really like it.
I only have experience in making home fries though.
I have made all kinds of fries with different oils and spices. I have
cut the potatoes in different sizes and shapes but ultimately we like
the french fry cut. I bought a potato chipper from Amazon which works
great.
On thing I found is a tablespoon of oil is too much, I use less. If
frying frozen foods the one tablespoon may be needed, I don't know.
There is only 2 buttons on it: start and stop and a timer, they are
both raised.
Hope this helps.

The timer on the one I am using I set to 30 minutes, the maximum amount of
time. I use another timer to time the heating time and cook time of the food
that I am using.

Someday, I will win the lottery, and I'll be able to buy as many

Re: [CnD] air fryers

2016-03-06 Thread Charis Austin via Cookinginthedark
Before actually using the machine, I read the manual which I got on line. I've
made my cooking times based on information I saw in the manual. The unit heats
up to 390 degrees. The time chart actually said to cook the French fries for
ten minutes.

Through experience you will know if the food is done.

Document hello thank you for telling me about your air fryer. I'm really
excited and want to get started with the cooking. For frozen food do you follow
the package directions?

Re: [CnD] air fryers

2016-03-05 Thread Charis Austin via Cookinginthedark
Hello,

Sorry about my slow reply, however, it's been a busy week. We have a Phillips
Air Fryer which we are enjoying. We have liked everything we have made in it.
Things we have cooked include frozen French fries and onion rings, frozen
salmon bergers, and sliced mushrooms with a little olive oil drizeled over them
and tossed to make sure they were covered. No oil was added to the other things
cooked.

There are a number of models, some of which have touch screens. The one we have
is easy to use; simply set the timer; let it heat up, and put your food in the
basket, and cook. Shake it aobut half-way through cooking.

Enjoy!
