Bug#253293: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Debianized mod_auth_shadow-2.1.tar.gz]

---BeginMessage---
Hello!

I'm using your mod_auth_shadow on several machines running Apache
1.3 and Debian Woody.

Now I'm switching to Debian Sarge and Apache2. Unfortunately your
module is not packaged for Apache2 in Debian.

I downloaded the latest tarball (mod_auth_shadow-2.1.tar.gz) and
debianized it.

Everything is contained in the debian/ subdirectory. If you add
that directory to your sources, every Debian user can make a
Debian package by simply installing the Build-Depends
packages and running

fakeroot debian/rules binary

I tested it on Debian Sarge (stable) and Etch (testing).

I'm not a Debian mantainer, so I will send this mail also to the
official Debian mantainer of the Apache1.3 mod_auth_shadow
module. May be this will facilitate the Debian packaging.

Techincal details:

- Changed the makefile to be Debian compatibile.
- Added the file auth_shadow.load, used by the Debian install.
- Used dpatch to store all the patches in the debian/ directory.
- Created the postinst script to set proper permissions
  onto validate program.

AFAIK there's actually no progress, i sent a mail to INPUT and POWER MAC
maintainers (respectively Vojtech Pavlik and Benjamin Herrenschmidt),
  but no one replied.

As a rule, only upstream accepted patches are put into Debian.

I've read the policy in the wiki as mentioned above. I totally agree
  with this!
I haven't thought about before reporting the bug, i'm sorry.

I'm trying to send other messages to maintainers and also to lkml.
  Help is appreciated :)

Thanks, it sounds like you have done exactly the right thing.
Unforunate that not much has happened.

Svenl, is it possible for you to ping some PPC people?

I pinged benh, but he is busy fixing some ppc SMP issue right now, so didn't
put much attention. I still feel that this should be more related to the INPUT
folk than the powerpc side though.

Generally, having people on lkml and such ignore patches is something which
makes me reconsider the only upstream patches policy :)

Friendly,

Sven Luther

Bug#334843: linux-image-2.6.12-1-686: Oops suddenly appearing after a video card change

2005-10-20 Thread Mathieu Roy

Note :

jeudi 20 octobre, vers 10h, Mathieu Roy déclara :

I had a computer running linux-image-2.6.12-1-686 since a while, with
no problem, with a Radeon 9000 onboard.

I've just realized this statement is confusing. By onboard, I just
meant plugged via AGP on the board, it is not an onboard graphical
card, it is not part of the motherboard.

Hence, when I added the 9600 pro, the 9000 excalibur was actually
removed completely.

Hi, the reason for wanting openssl 0.9.7 support is that some
applications still require it (rather than openssl 0.9.8), like C-Kermit
from ftp://ftp.columbia.edu/kermit/test/tar.

As long as Debian maintains the libssl0.9.7 package for applications

Hi, with the removal of the libssl0.9.7-dev package, I now have to

libraries and run make on openssl097 in order to compile C-Kermit with
openssl 0.9.7 support. When compiled, C-Kermit can then use the
shared libssl installed by the libssl0.9.7 package.

Why would you want to link against 0.9.7? Is there a reason you
can't use 0.9.8? There should be no reason to keep 0.9.7 around.

Yes, this is an upstream change.

i believe that this report is obsolete, since udev-mtab is in rcS and
irda-utils is in e.g. rc2, so it gets executed afterwards.
i just had a machine where irda-utils just worked fine.

Bug#334869: Header charset conversion error from iso-8859-1 when replying

2005-10-20 Thread Marko Mäkelä
Package: mozilla-thunderbird
Version: 1.0.7-2

When I send a message with mutt, the From: field encodes my last
name correctly as =?iso-8859-1?B?TeRrZWzk?=. When I start composing
a reply in mozilla-thunderbird, the To: header in the composer
contains Marko U+FFFD (where U+FFFD is the Unicode REPLACEMENT
CHARACTER). If the reply is sent as such, the To: header will be
encoded as =?UTF-8?B?TWFya28g77+9?=, or Marko U+FFFD.

The same bug seems to occur whenever the From: header of the original
message contains non-ASCII characters that are encoded in iso-8859-1.

With best regards,

Marko Mäkelä

Is it possible to get this header file also to the other files.

Bug#255744: xfree86-common: Mouse not found causes gdm to fail -- this *is* annoying

Take the following scenario: a connector is accidentally removed, or the

starts X! Even though you _can_ work with X without a mouse. I am an
experienced user and still I had to spend some time to understand what and
why is happening (if you unplug the mouse after the system created the
  mouse device, everything is fine).

Are you using /dev/input/mice for the mouse? With that, it shouldn't
matter whether any mice are actually connected. If the device node
doesn't exist, it's probably a matter of making sure that the backing
kernel module (mousedev IIRC) is loaded.

Another possibility is running the X server with -allowMouseOpenFail.

I don't really see an X server bug here but rather a system
 administration issue.

Well, I do see a bug, but the right way to fix it is to implement
hotplugging for the X server. I have every intention of working on this in
the future, but not until after we have the modular packages. If the
submitter thinks that this is going to happen within a year then he's
kidding himself though.

Bug#334868: netrw.vim does not handle properly %xx escaping and relative URLs in the file: URL scheme

2005-10-20 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Body of the previous bug report (which was missing due to a bug in
reportbug :-)

--- CUT HERE ---

Plugin netrw.vim has two issues in the handling of file:// URLs:

1) %xx escaping is not handled properly. For example, opening
file:///a%20b.txt will result in vim opening something weird since
the '%' sign will be expanded to the name of the file being opened(!)

This is an issue expecially with gvim and gnome since the open with
feature of nautilus escapes spaces and other special characters with
   the '%xx' notation

2) relative URLs are not properly handled. The convention is that 2
slashes URLs in the file scheme are relative, while those with 3
slashes are absolute. Thus, for example:

  file://a - a in the cwd
  file:///a - /a

The attached patch solves both issues implementing:
- URI %xx unescaping
- escaping of special characters for the e: command
- removal of file:// prefix on autocommands

Cheers.

Bug#334875: Appending footer breaks base64-encoded message

2005-10-20 Thread Tommi Virtanen
Package: enemies-of-carlotta
Version: 1.0.3-1

CVS trunk has this in the TODO file:

--8--
if body is base64 encoded, then appending a footer is bad or complicated
--8--

and I just hit that bug. The relevant message headers are

--8--
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
--8--

and body is just a big chunk of base64-encoded text, one empty line,
dash-dash-space-newline and the signature line from eoc.

Notes refuses to accept a message corrupted thus by eoc, and gives a
bounce with the message:

--8--
Diagnostic-Code: X-Notes; Error delivering to foo.bar; Cannot
convert MIME message to Notes Rich Text message.
--8--

which is not really nice, I just had a user complain he gets warnings
from eoc because such email sent to him bounces.

I'd be happy to try and write a patch, but what's the plan on how to fix
this? Decode+append+reencode?

PS. Creating a bug on bugs.debian.org mostly to have something to link
to, sorry for the double bookkeeping vs. the TODO file.

Bug#333117: try to rebuild the package

On 20/10/2005 Ales Kozumplik wrote:
Sure, I could give it a try.
I've never done this before - should I rather do that from debian sources or
from the sources on websites of the projects?

best is to do it from the debian sources:

add a deb-src line to /etc/apt/sources.list. for example:
deb-src ftp://ftp2.de.debian.org/debian/ sid main

now you have to update the apt database and install all build-depends
for python-mysqldb, this needs to be done as root:

[ update the apt database ]
# apt-get update

[ install general build packages, needed to build almost every package ]
# apt-get install fakeroot build-essential

[ install the build-depends for python-mysqldb ]
# apt-get build-dep python-mysqldb

the package building can be done as normal system user:

[ get the sources ]
$ apt-get source python-mysqldb

[ change to the build directory ]
$ cd python-mysqldb-1.2.1c3/

[ actually build the package ]
$ dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -us -uc

if everything went right, you should see the following files in ../
afterwards:
python-mysqldb_1.2.1c3-2.diff.gz

Bug#334876: ifplugd scripts relies on hotplug deprecated by udev

2005-10-20 Thread Gilles Grandou
Package: ifplugd
Version: 0.26-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

ifplugd was used to be stated by hotplug, running the next
script /etc/hotplug.d/net/ifplugd.hotplug.

Since udev 0.070-3, hotplugging is embedded in udev and
hotplug is deprecated.

udev now calls ifplugd.hotplug itself. However the scripts
abort due the missing /etc/hotplug/hotplug.functions file.

Bug#303308: Patch for Perl untaint bug

2005-10-20 Thread Chris Heath
We were finally able to narrow this bug down to a small test case. I
have also attached a patch that fixes it.

#!/usr/bin/perl -Tw
$SIG{'__WARN__'} = sub {warn $_[0]};
my $tainted = substr($ENV{'PATH'}, 0, 0);
my $pat = Testing %s\n . $tainted;
foo =~ m/(.*)/;
my $foo = $1;
my $s = sprintf($pat, undef); # corrupts $1!!
bar =~ m/(.$tainted*)/;
my $bar = $1;
my $test = 'print OK\n' . $tainted;
$test =~ m/(.*)/;
$test = $1; # try to untaint
eval($test);

Output:
Use of uninitialized value in sprintf at - line 7.
Insecure dependency in eval while running with -T switch at - line 13.

In a nutshell, the bug was caused by having a single line that taints
and then calls a warning handler. After that, $1 becomes increasing
corrupted. (Insert Devel::Peek::Dump($1) at various points to see this.)

Brendan, is there anything else you need from us to get this into
unstable? Will you push this upstream, or should I write to p5p myself?

Bug#320024: patch for #320024

2005-10-20 Thread Michael Tautschnig

 Done.
slightly modified built into fai-cd. worked in my tests.

Thanks! But IMHO there are two minor issues - I'm quoting your patch for
reference:

 Committed in subversion /people/lazyboy/bugfixes/320024/

 tmp1=$(mktemp)
 cat $tmp1 EOF
 # mirror location for fai CD, file generated by fai-cd
+EOF
+for i in $mirrordir/dists/* ; do
+ echo -n deb file:/media/mirror `basename $i` $tmp1
+ find $i -name Packages* | grep binary | \
+sed 's/\/binary-.*$//' | uniq | sed s#$i/## | tr '\n' $tmp1
+done

-deb file:/media/mirror stable main updates/main
-deb file:/fai/files packages/
-EOF
 mount --bind $tmp1 $NFSROOT/etc/apt/sources.list
 customize_nfsroot
echo Writing FAI CD-ROM image to $isoname. This may need some time.

You need to add echo to have a newline after each deb file:/, i.e.

...
+ find $i -name Packages* | grep binary | \
+sed 's/\/binary-.*$//' | uniq | sed s#$i/## | tr '\n' $tmp1
   echo $tmp1
+done
...

and you should probably do rm $tmp1 somewhere afterwards...

Thanks again,
Michael

Bug#329127: cvs is not 64-bit clean

2005-10-20 Thread Gabor Gombas
Package: cvs
Version: 1:1.12.9-15
Followup-For: Bug #329127

Hi,

The bug is not compiler-related. By checking some of the compiler
warnings I found two bugs where cvs mixes 32-bit and 64-bit data types.
I think it was pure chance that cvs worked on any 64-bit architecture
so far. Patch is below; the second hunk fixes the crash in the original
bugreport (the first hunk is also a real bugfix).

Bug#334882: squid: [CVE-2005-3258] remote FTP buffer overflow

2005-10-20 Thread Martin Pitt
Package: squid
Version: 2.5.10-6
Severity: critial
Tags: security patch

Hi Luigi!

There is a new buffer overflow in Squid:

| ==
| Candidate: CVE-2005-3258
| URL: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2005-3258
| Reference:
CONFIRM:http://www.squid-cache.org/Versions/v2/2.5/bugs/#squid-2.5.STABLE11-rfc1738_do_escape
|
| The rfc1738_do_escape function in ftp.c for Squid 2.5 STABLE11 and
| earlier allows remote FTP servers to cause a denial of service
| (segmentation fault) via certain crafted responses.

(Please note the recent Mitre name change, vulnerabilities now have
the CVE prefix, not CAN any more).

In addition, I just noticed that in version 2.5.10-6 you added a
security patch 46-ntlm-scheme-assert.dpatch which is not actually
applied in 00list. Please add it. (One of the reasons why I hate
dpatch :-/ ).

Thanks,

Martin

Bug#334884: bugs.debian.org: Closed bugs marked as outstanding, bugs in wrong distribution

Outstanding bugs -- Grave functionality bugs; Unclassified (3 bugs)

Package: tetex-bin (tetex-bin 3.0-9); Severity: grave; Reported by:

Severity: serious; Reported by: Ryan Murray [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Done: Frank Küster [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Will be archived in 27 days.

The last of the bugs above (#334005) is marked as fixed and will be
archived, but because of this it should *not* be displayed as
outstanding, but as Resolved.

The second of these bugs (#334701) has been reported on an unstable
system while for this particular system 2.0.2-31 was still available,
but at a time where the Debian archive contained the buggy version only
in testing, not in unstable (which has 3.0-9). This was somewhen between
late Tuesday and early Wednesday. I think this bug should not be
displayed on the bugs page for unstable.

Furthermore,

Regards, Frank

 Package: cupsys-driver-gutenprint

The first run of apt-get install cupsys-driver-gutenprint does not
correctly installs it, but it's fixed by running apt-get -f install
 afterwards.

Maybe the /usr/share/cups/model/gutenprint/5.0/en is not created before
 the files are created there?

They are created automatically. I can't reproduce this either on a
live unstable system or in a clean chroot.

 Setting up cupsys-driver-gutenprint (4.3.99+cvs20050901-1) ...
 cups-genppd: Unable to create file
 /usr/share/cups/model/gutenprint/5.0/en/stp-bjc-30.5.0.ppd.gz - No such

 dpkg: error processing cupsys-driver-gutenprint (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

It couldn't create the file. Did /usr/share/cups/model have odd
owenership or permissions beforehand?

If you purge cupsys-driver-gutenprint and try again, do you still get
the problem?

As long as Debian maintains the libssl0.9.7 package for applications

 package also be retained?

As far as I can see from the source you provided, c-kermit needs *at
least* openssl 0.9.7:

# NOTE: OpenSSL 0.9.6 and earlier are not compatible with 0.9.7 and later.
# C-Kermit code is designed for 0.9.6. To build with 0.9.7 you must add
# -DOPENSSL_097 to avoid missing symbols in the DES library and to use the

When this readme was written, openssl 0.9.8 was not availlable. Did you
try to build with openssl 0.9.8?

Bug#334886: rubber: crashes on too many errors (missing graphics)

2005-10-20 Thread Robert Hart
Package: rubber
Version: 1.0-1
Severity: normal

When I run rubber on my thesis document (which runs just fine through
LaTeX) rubber crashes (See below). The reason for all the graphics
not found messages (I think) is that I repeatedly redefine the
graphicspath (via a macro) throughout my document (each chapter has a
seperate directory of figures), but I don't think this should cause a
crash (or even a failure)

Hi,

apt/experimental concatenates the MD5sum and Description fields here. I've seen
that bug on two independent machines now. (Different sources.list; the other
one also ran the p.d.o/~mvo/ version inbetween, this one was just upgraded from
an older Sid just now.)

Bug#239816: Preliminary Bad Sectors List support added in SVN

2005-10-20 Thread K.G.
Some limited Bad Sectors List support has been added in the
SVN.

This should lead to a better compatibility with HDX.

An empty Bad Sectors List is created in sector 1 while
creating an Atari disklabel, it contains the same things
that atari-fdisk write when using the b command and option

3: create HDX compatible empty bad sector list
(Note: Only necessary if you want to use also HDX on this disk)

If an existing Atari table is read and edited by Parted,
an existing Bad Sectors List will remain untouched (and you
won't be able to put a partition overlapping the BSL).

You can't delete or move the BSL with Parted. The only
way to get ride of it if it prevent you from editing the
partitions like you want is to create a new Atari disklabel
(mklabel atari) which will put the HDX compatible BSL in
sector 1 (just after the AHDI table at sector 0),
but that will delete every partitions.
Alternatively you can edit the position of the BSL with
atari-fdisk (which I think fill it as an empty BSL
anyway)

Hmm - no, you are right.

Then you probably need to double-check that it actually works as
intended (really weird - I am sure my problems went away after
applying that hack, but that obviously can't be...).

I'm worried if people are going to ignore files named '-B',
since you can probably ignore such files with passing a
command-line argument '-i -B' to dpkg-buildpackage.

I can't really think of a sane way to beat this corner
case without breaking existing behavior.

I didn't change xmltex's configuration file, and IIRC, didn't refuse
updates of configuration files. But I installed it a long time ago,
so I don't remember everything. One problem is that configuration
file updates are disabled by default, and I may have chosen the

Whishlist? I wonder why we haven't a Severity: pedantic. ;)

The lines in the /etc/phpldapadmin/config.php file should be wrapped at
 80 characters.

I really see no reasons do to that, having a patch to handle between new
upstream releases.

I think you should ask this upstream, or provide a patch (dpatch format,
if possible).

Otherwise, I won't fix this bug.

Bug#334888: cannot install libcurl3-openssl-dev together with heimdal-dev

2005-10-20 Thread Gabor Gombas
Package: libcurl3-openssl-dev
Severity: minor

Hi,

I just wanted to install libcurl3-openssl-dev but could not do so,
because it wanted to remove heimdal-dev in favour of libkrb5-dev.
Now, I have an application which I want to link with libcurl, but I do
not need Kerberos support. I also have an other application which I'd
like to build with Heimdal and not MIT Kerberos. Right now I cannot
build both applications which is quite inconvenient.

Would it be possible to lower the Depends: libkrb5-dev to a Recommends:
libkrb5-dev? I realize that static linking may be broken if heimdal-dev
is installed instead of libkrb5-dev, but people needing static linking
should know how to handle this...

I wouldn't know, I never looked there before. Right now it's
drwxrwsr-t 2 root lpadmin 4096 Oct 20 15:56 /usr/share/cups/model/
but since it works most of the time (see below), I guess these are the
right permissions.

If you purge cupsys-driver-gutenprint and try again, do you still get
 the problem?

Hmm, it depends! I ran the purge+install sequence several times, and it
failed once. So I'm guessing there's some kind of race condition between
the two processes (cups-genppdconfig and cups-genppd) that's hard to
trigger. I don't really speak perl, so I can't say if it's even a
possibility, but it certainly looks like that.

Bug#315158: slapd: Upgrade to 2.3.x

2005-10-20 Thread Michael Buschbeck
Hi,

I'm very interested in upgrading our current slapd 2.2 installation to
version 2.3, too, as I'd like to be able to use the overlay feature
which was introduced in 2.3.

Being able to set up a 2.3 installation in parallel to an existing 2.2
one isn't one of my priorities, although I understand that that might be
different for others.

Either way, I vividly second the request that 2.3 be packaged soon. :-)

Cheers,
Michael

Unfortunately the maintainer did not get around to fix it before sarge

Thanks for noticing - must be a change in the build script.

I will prepare a -2 upload.

That is not on my TODO list in the near future as this would require a
reorganization of the batik package. Thats something to tackle if
upstream changes to the new xml-graphics-common and the packages
then needs to be reworked anyway.

He doesn't say how to make sure which /dev/sd?1 it really is, in case

Bug#331668: build-dep and pinning

2005-10-20 Thread wieseltux23
Michael Vogt wrote:

Hi,

I was pondering about this a bit and I don't think it can be
supported. The best that can be done seems to be to allow:
# apt-get build-dep evolution -t unstable
to get evolution from unstable (that should work in the next apt
upload to experimental).

The problem is that there will be packages with different source than
binary version number (because of bin-NMUs). E.g.:
$ apt-cache madison dpkg
  dpkg | 1.13.11.0.1 | http://ftp.debian.org sid/main Packages
  dpkg |1.13.11 | http://ftp.debian.org sid/main Sources

If apt [build-dep|source] would use the version number from the
canidate version (1.13.11.0.1) it would not be able to find a matching
source and a apt-get [build-dep|source] dpkg would fail. Most users
would see this as a regression (also it's technically correct that it
can't find a matching source :)

Cheers,
 Michael

There are several possible uses of syslinux:

* Using directly the images found in /usr/lib/syslinux/img*.gz
* Using isolinux of pxelinux
* Using extlinux
* Calling syslinux binary directly

Only the last one requires mtools to be installed. According to the
Debian Policy:

 `Recommends'
This declares a strong, but not absolute, dependency.

The `Recommends' field should list packages that would be found

There are clearly cases in which syslinux can be used without the need
to have mtools installed. So, IMO, the Recommends line is OK.

But now in GNOME 2.10.x menu-xdg seems only to generate
GNOME(Free desktop.org) compatible menu items, Not update automatically.

I want the debian xdg menu could be updated without the intervention of
 gnome-panel. :(

Hello Jung-hoon,
menu-xdg update the XDG menu automatically, but gnome-panel fails to
notice the changes. Other windows manager check the timestamps of the
menufiles when you open the menu to see whether they need to update it.

So I reassign this wishlist item to gnome-panel

Thanks for using Debian!
Bill.

Bug#334678: dump: please add -quiet option

Each day I receive a long email with all details of what dump did;
I would appreciate if there was a wait to quiet dump

The approach taken by most backup systems (like amanda, bacula, etc)
that wrap invocations of dump, tar, etc., is to redirect stdout/stderr
to a log file, and then post-process the log file.

yes, I thought of it, I will probably change my code to
  dump -f - 2 dumplog | ssh backuphost 'dd of=backup'
  egrep -v 'blah|blah' dumplog

Still a -quiet option would be much nicer...
indeed, in the above approach, if I run my script interactively,
I will not see error messages until dump is done

unfortunately shell code does not admit double pipes, that is ,
some magic code looking like
   dump -f - \
1|  { ssh backuphost 'dd of=backup' ; }
2|  { egrep -v 'blah|blah'  ; }
where two pipes are opened at the same time, for fd 1 and fd 2
(that would be cool... I will open a wishlist on bash :-)

a.

ps: I use my backup system on 6 different PCs, that is why I am annoyed
by the emails... I am now annoyed by the dump blah blah, and
I do not read the emails, so I may skip some other important cron messages

ps2: you may wonder why I do not use amanda/bakula/etc :
I started writing my backup scripts some years ago, then they improved
in the years, and they do the job very well for me

Bug#334713: More info

2005-10-20 Thread Jules Bean

I had the problem described in this report.

A little investigation showed that the errant 'mfw' line was in
/etc/texmf/fmt.d/99postinf.cnf.

The wording at the top of that file is informative.

#
#
# /etc/texmf/fmt.d/99postinst.cnf
#
# This file has been generated by tetex-bin's postinst script.
# teTeX no longer uses /etc/texmf/fmtutil.cnf for its configuration,
# but rather a file in /var/lib/texmf/web2c that is generated from
# configuration files in /etc/texmf/fmt.d.
#
# The postinst script detected that your old fmtutil.cnf contained
# lines that you seem to have added manually. In order to include those
# lines in the generated file, they have been extracted to this file,
# /etc/texmf/fmt.d/99postinst.cnf.
#
# You can add changes here, or in a new file in this directory, see
# the manpage of /usr/sbin/update-fmtutil(8). Note that if there are two
entries

# for a format, the second wins - because this file has number 99,
# it's entries will always be last
#
#

I hope this helps you solve this problem.

Is that with the working 2.4 kernel?

What happens when you manual `modprobe orinoco_cs` at the VT2

Okay, so it broken in 4.4.0-3, but it worked in 4.4.0-2? Or does it not
work for you with any 4.4.0 version of php4-gd? If it broke in 4.4.0-3
(but worked in 4.4.0-2), are you using safe_mode, and do you not own the
directory you're writing to? Just a hunch.
