Bug#399113: xen kernel infinite loop processing core dump
I am not able to reproduce this bug on my Core2 Duo (2GB RAM) PC running linux-image-2.6.18-3-xen-amd64 with amd64 etch. - linux-image-2.6.18-3-i386 and linux-image-2.6.18-3-k7 (2.6.18-7) Did you try the -xen-686 flavor? I have not seen anyone actually explicitly confirm that the debian kernel team reproduced it, but http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2006/12/msg00347.html and http://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2006/12/msg00488.html indicate they did, and are able to avoid the problem by enabling PAE. Bug#401385: libgnat-4.1: libgnat needs a shared debugging version, to be placed in /usr/lib/debug
Ludovic Brenta writes: Kevin Brown writes: OK, I've finished working on this and the end result appears to work properly. It creates -dbg packages for libgnat, libgnatprj, and libgnatvsn. See the attached patch. Hi Kevin, Thank you so much for the patch. I have reviewed it after returning from vacation and it seems fine, at least at first glance. I will apply the patch when I get around to working on GCC again. I'll do that after Etch is released; now everything is frozen anyway. the archive is not yet frozen; you can get in single patches, just upload to unstable, and then ask the release team. Bug#204751: dupload should check for ancient time stamps
reassign 204751 lintian severity 204751 wishlist thanks the original bug is the utimes bug in glibc, which is worked around in python2.3, but there should be some place to check for: - lintian / linda - dupload / dput - ftp.debian.org If such a check would be needed, it would be the domain of lintian. I think it makes sense that lintian would check at least the things that the archive software does, but it's up to the lintian maintainers to decide whether to implement this. Reassigning there. Bug#404987: installation-reports: minor error when configuring LVM
Hi Frans! On Tue, 02 Jan 2007 23:59:12 +0100, Frans Pop wrote: The lvmcfg module should not be used during installs that use partman. All needed functionality to set up LVM is already contained within partman. lvmcfg is only still used in a few architectures that do not support partman. I guessed this and it was also the reason my report was severity normal. See the installation guide for Etch for instructions how to set up LVM from partman. Well, the installation manual is not clear when explaining the different modules [1] or how to setup LVM [2]. In the former case, there's no mention that partman will add LVM configuration in most of the situations. In the latter case, specifically subchapter 6.3.2.2, the 4th paragraph states Then start the lvmcfg module (either directly from partman or from the debian-installer's main menu) and [...] Thus, FWIU I can use both ways to configure the LVM, which is not true (but I'm not an English-native speaker and maybe I missed something in my quite fast reading of the installation manual). I would be very grateful if someone could review the patch and perhaps push it into Etch if possible. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-3-686 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages seahorse depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.11Debian configuration management sy ii gconf2 2.16.0-3 GNOME configuration database syste ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-01.12.3-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libavahi-client3 0.6.16-1 Avahi client library ii libavahi-common3 0.6.16-1 Avahi common library ii libavahi-glib1 0.6.16-1 Avahi glib integration library ii libbonobo2-0 2.16.0-1 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.14.0-5 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-9 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.2.6-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-31.0.2-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.72-1simple interprocess messaging syst ii libfontconfig1 2.4.2-1 generic font configuration library ii libgconf2-42.16.0-3 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglade2-01:2.6.0-4 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.12.6-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-keyring0 0.6.0-3 GNOME keyring services library ii libgnome2-02.16.0-2 The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.14.0-2 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeprint2.2-0 2.17.0-1 The GNOME 2.2 print architecture - ii libgnomeprintui2.2-0 2.17.0-1 GNOME 2.2 print architecture User ii libgnomeui-0 2.16.1-1 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 2.16.3-2 GNOME virtual file-system (runtime ii libgnutls131.4.4-3 the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libgpg-error0 1.4-2 library for common error values an ii libgpgme11 1.1.2-2 GPGME - GnuPG Made Easy ii libgtk2.0-02.10.6-5 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtksourceview1.0-0 1.8.2-1 shared libraries for the GTK+ synt ii libice61:1.0.1-2 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libldap2 2.1.30-13.2 OpenLDAP libraries ii libnautilus-extension1 2.16.1-1 libraries for nautilus components ii libnotify1 [libnotify1-gtk 0.4.3-2 sends desktop notifications to a n ii liborbit2 1:2.14.4-1libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpanel-applet2-0 2.14.3-4 library for GNOME 2 panel applets ii libpango1.0-0 1.14.8-4 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpopt0 1.10-3lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libsm6 1:1.0.1-3 X11 Session Management library ii libsoup2.2-8 2.2.98-2 an HTTP library implementation in ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-4 X11 client-side library ii libxcursor11.1.7-4 X cursor management library ii libxext6 1:1.0.1-2 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:4.0.1-5 X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii libxi6 1:1.0.1-4 X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama1 1:1.0.1-4.1 X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxml22.6.27.dfsg-1 GNOME XML library ii libxrandr2 2:1.1.0.2-5 X11 RandR extension library ii libxrender11:0.9.1-3 X Rendering Extension client libra ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-13compression library - runtime Versions of packages seahorse recommends: ii openssh-client1:4.3p2-8 Secure shell client, an rlogin/rsh -- debconf information: * seahorse/SUID: true 11_transient_key_fix.dpatch Description: application/shellscript
Bug#400501: ajaxterm release 0.10-1 and screen sizing
package ajaxterm forwarded 400501 [EMAIL PROTECTED] thanks Le vendredi 05 janvier 2007 à 13:17 +, Paul Cager a écrit : Julien, Hi Paul, I'm interested in version 0.10 of ajaxterm, as it allows me to specify the screen size (Cols-x-Rows). I had a look at your package [1] and wondered if I could make a couple of suggestions to support this changeable screen size? Thanks for the suggestion. There are no changes I am aware of that could help changing the size of the terminal (except the fact that the max width is now set to 256 from release 0.8). It is planned upstream to allow changing the size dynamically from the GUI, but for the moment, nothing is done. The width and height must now be changed in both ajaxterm.py (main script) and in ajaxterm.html (in the call of ajaxterm.Terminal function). Implementing your proposal in the Debian package would imply too many changes in the upstream sources, I will however report your wish upstream so as to allow this in the next release. Cheers, Julien
Bug#405726: ltsp-server: does not install all video and input packages
Package: ltsp-server Version: 0.99debian9 Severity: important Tags: patch due to recent changes in xserver-xorg dependencies (see #405639), ltsp-build-client creates a new LTSP chroot without all the appropriate xserver-xorg-video* and xserver-xorg-input* packages installed. this breaks the overwhelming majority of ltsp installs, as users will expect keyboard, mice and a variety of video cards to work with LTSP. (would this justify a grave severity?) a trivial patch is attached which should work around the problem, by adding xserver-xorg-video-all and xserver-xorg-input-all to the list of packages to install. live well, vagrant === modified file 'server/plugins/ltsp-build-client/Debian/000-basic-configuration' --- server/plugins/ltsp-build-client/Debian/000-basic-configuration 2006-12-19 04:14:16 + +++ server/plugins/ltsp-build-client/Debian/000-basic-configuration 2007-01-05 19:19:26 + @@ -5,7 +5,7 @@ DIST=${DIST:-$(lsb_release -s -c)} MIRROR=${MIRROR:-http://http.us.debian.org/debian} COMPONENTS=${COMPONENTS:-main} -EARLY_PACKAGES=${EARLY_PACKAGES:-xorg ltsp-client discover1 mdetect xresprobe udev xdebconfigurator esound debian-archive-keyring} +EARLY_PACKAGES=${EARLY_PACKAGES:-xorg xserver-xorg-input-all xserver-xorg-video-all ltsp-client discover1 mdetect xresprobe udev xdebconfigurator esound debian-archive-keyring} EXCLUDE=${EXCLUDE:-libpcap0.7,libgnutls11,liblockfile1,libpcre3,libtasn1-2,libopencdk8,liblzo1,info,manpages,man-db,libgcrypt11,libgdbm3,libgpg-error0,groff-base,at,cron,logrotate,exim4-config,exim4,exim4-base,exim4-daemon-light,ipchains,mailx,pppconfig,pppoe,pppoeconf,tasksel,base-config,apt-utils,dhcp-client,fdutils,iptables,ppp,whiptail} RCS_WHITELIST=${RCS_WHITELIST:-mountkernfs.sh mountvirtfs hostname.sh keymap.sh loopback udev mountdevsubfs.sh mountdevsubfs module-init-tools procps.sh etc-setserial ltsp-client-setup setserial console-screen.sh xorg-common x11-common xfree86-common ifupdown networking} RC2_WHITELIST=${RC2_WHITELIST:-ltsp-client nbd-client usplash rmnologin}

It is a compilation of small but very stable and portable shell scripts into a single shell tool. All ingredients were in successful use over many years in various free software projects. The compiled shtool program is intended to be used inside the source tree of other free software packages. There it can overtake various (usually non-portable) tasks related to the building and installation of such a package. It especially can replace the old mkdir.sh, install.sh and related scripts. Bug#322762: no blocking bugs anymore
Hi, Set any bugs about /usr/doc stuff to being blockers of this bug report. Use this as a tracking/coordination bug for the remainder of the transition. Note that once this transition is complete we will need to do something in base-files to remove the /usr/doc directory, if it is empty. It won't be empty in all cases, for example a user might have non-debian or old packages that have not transitioned still installed. This bug can be reassigned to base-files to deal with that last step once it is no longer blocked by any other bugs. Well, today I have fixed the last two remaining bugs that blocked this bug (I'll have to followup to them to see whether the fixes will get to Etch, but that is not really on topic for this bug per se). Hence, I think now is the time to continue with the next steps as outlined in the first message in the bug, right? Thijs -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. At the very least, python-numpy-dev should be in the Recommends of python-numpy, and the errors one gets when trying to use f2py without it should be documented in python-numpy's README.Debian such that users know what is going on. Or put f2py into the -dev package? Debian has the distinction between runtime and development packages; to make the package work out of the box, you would have to depend on compilers as well, which is not desired when you install the package just as a dependency of another package. Maybe another option could be a renaming of python-numpy to python-numpy-runtime and python-numpy-dev to python-numpy, so that you get what upstream wants you to get. If you want to move the f2py script (though not the numpy.f2py subpackage) to another Debian package, I have no objection. However, the fortranobject.[ch] files are package data, and IMO should stay with the numpy.f2py subpackage; I don't see how anyone benefits by removing them. -- Robert Kern I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth. -- Umberto Eco -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#404927: udev/aacraid interaction - should aacraid set 'removable'?
I do not have any close at hand (cleaned out the hardware closet to hazardous waste) :-( But, as far as I am concerned :-), if it says 'DPT' or 'Adaptec' as the manufacturer's name portion of the inquiry field, or has 'RAID' or 'Array' somewhere in the product name inquiry field, you have covered most, if not all, of the possibilities I can come up with! Bug#370295: sun-java must not provide java2-runtime
I was not CC'd, so I did not notice this action on this bug until now. severity 370295 important thanks You are the release manager, and you can modify the normal processing of bugs. So I won't argue about the severity of this bug. The rationale given for reopening this bug was: The SWT example suggests that it is OK to reimplement large parts of the Java API and configure Sun's Java to run with it, but the plain language of the license prohibits it. Even though the license text appears to prohibit this, and even though the license text asserts that the FAQ is non-binding, we have: You are confusing me. The FAQ _is_ binding. - a statement from upstream (in the FAQ) that the DLJ does not prohibit distributing sun-java5 together with eclipse, which implies it does not prohibit distributing it together with SWT That is why this is all so confusing. Sun contradicts itself. The reasonable thing to do is to find out what Sun wants before charging ahead with packaging. - an upstream liaison who understands Debian packaging and how these packages are put together and who, after reviewing this bug report, closed it with the statement that these issues have been addressed. I don't know what upstream thinks. I know what Tom Marble says, but Tom Marble has never claimed that he speaks authoriatively for Sun when deciding whether the packaging is ok. I have asked him several times, and he never replied to that question. It is also debatable whether Debian has combined, configured, or distributed the Software to run in conjunction with any additional software that implements the same or similar functionality or APIs as the Software. We are distributing the software in such a way that a user can opt to combine them The provides: java2-runtime line configures sun's java to run with any program that needs it. I do not understand how you can argue otherwise. , but even though sun-java5 is listed as providing java2-runtime, on a default Debian system non-free is not even listed in the apt configuration. It does not matter whether sun-java is available on a default Debian system. It only matters whether Debian is the one distributing the incompatible packages. I'm not going to claim that there are no bugs in the way this package is currently licensed; lack of clarity is always a bug. But I don't believe there is anything here that warrants holding the package out of the release -- and upstream apparently agrees. In any case, the code will become GPL, so this problem will go away on its own. It is unfortunate that the package was rammed through without competent review of the license. It won't be empty in all cases, for example a user might have non-debian or old packages that have not transitioned still installed. If the system has only official Debian packages installed, and you upgrade all of them in a way that none of them put files under /usr/doc anymore, then dpkg should automatically remove /usr/doc when upgrading the last /usr/doc-using package, and there is really no need to do anything else. base-files is not, and should not be, a fix-everything package. Once we have fixed all our packages, we are already compliant, and that's all what we should reasonably do. Bug#163057: xserver-xfree86: [ati/atimisc,ati/radeon] SEGV upon dual-head int10 initialization on Mach64 rev 39 and Radeon VE rev 0
Hi Jan, 4 years ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding a segfault of the X server during int10 initialization when doing dual head on Mach64 and Radeon. The bug has been tagged upstream soon after, but never closed. Unless you are still able to reproduce the crash, I will close the bug in a few weeks. Bug#403012: Using UUID= for a root partition in /etc/fstab fails to boot
* Brian Brunswick [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2006-12-14 04:58]: I wanted to make booting more reliable for multiple devices plugged in, and use UUIDs to find the root device, as I do on my server system. But it appears not to boot after regenerating the initrd with dpkg-reconfigure kernel with the root partition as a UUID identified device. I had to re-flash the install image to recover things by chrooting and undoing the change. I just tried it myself and it worked. First I checked for the UUID of my root partition (sda1): foobar:~# ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid/ total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jan 5 16:58 6a9e3c00-4dd3-4930-98cc-450b0efe517d - ../../sda5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jan 5 16:58 7750fe81-888e-4bf4-9c87-94d54bcb3291 - ../../sda1 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jan 5 16:58 cf704e76-d2fb-4a49-a8f6-843d1d116019 - ../../sda6 foobar:~# ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid/7750fe81-888e-4bf4-9c87-94d54bcb3291 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jan 5 16:58 /dev/disk/by-uuid/7750fe81-888e-4bf4-9c87-94d54bcb3291 - ../../sda1 foobar:~# Then I put /dev/disk/by-uuid/7750fe81-888e-4bf4-9c87-94d54bcb3291 into /etc/fstab. /dev/disk/by-uuid/7750fe81-888e-4bf4-9c87-94d54bcb3291 / ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 Regenerated the initramfs and flashed it. Note sure why it didn't work for you... Maybe you put in a commnt in /etc/fstab and hit #405566. If you send me your initramfs file by private mail I can see if I can see why it failed. Is there an easy recipe for getting something telnet or ssh-able to run from the initrd, that would make it possible to debug this sort of thing? Not really, I'm afraid.
