It supports various development environment, such as command line, Emacs, VI, web broswer etc. It also has a cscope compatible interface. In addition, its capability can be extended by using GNU ID Utils and Exuberant CTAGS. GNU GLOBAL had been packaged and maintained by Ron Lee r...@debian.org until version 5.7.1. Since then, due to some disagreement between the upstream and Debian maintainer, GNU GLOBAL's Debian packages no longer updates and incompatible changes, such as htmake, are introduced into the Debian packages. Please see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=574947 for details. By contrast, the development of the upstream of GNU GLOBAL is still very active. The latest version is 6.2.10 which has many significant improvements and bug fixes compared with 5.7.1. It would be very great if Debian can have packages of the new generation (version 6) of GNU GLOBAL. The Ubuntu users can leverage as well. By having both original global and the proposed global6 packages in Debian simultaneously, we can resolve the issue reported by bug #574947. I have packaged the new versions of GNU GLOBAL by myself. Bug#730742: Need to patch cairo
Hi, The bug does exist. In order to mitigate, we need to change hint style from medium/full to slight for Cantarell and even all CFF fonts. A fontconfig conf checking font name or font format can help in theory. In practice, however, the setting will be overwritten by gnome setting daemon. We need the famous Cairo respect fontconfig patch to resolve the bug until FreeType upstream finds final solution to the issue. In summary, two things are needed: a fontconfig conf and the Cairo library patch. Best, Hongzheng -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#715568: Gnome 3.8 packages have disbale_ibus
Hi Osamu, As I reported, IBus 1.5.2 + ibus-pinyin 1.5.0 + Gnome 3.8 is basically working though it cannot be controlled by Gnome. That is, I have to type command ibus engine pinyin to enable it. Per Takao Fujiware's suggestion, I checked the packaging options of current Gnome 3.8. I found there is disable_ibus. I believe this can explain why Gnome cannot really control ibus. Bug#715568: ibus-anthy 1.5.3 doesn't work
Hi, I installed ibus-anthy1.5.3 from experimental. However, this new input method is not listed in input sources of Gnome 3.8 Region Language settings. So it is no way for Gnome to activate it. If this input method is added via ibus-setup, ibus-anthy will be activated all the time and cannot be turned off. There seems to be a specific step needed to register input method installed to Gnome. But I don't know what it is. Thanks, Hongzheng -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#715568: May be different issue
Yes, upgrading to gnome 3.8 is still not straightforward but doable. Right now, I installed ibus_1.5.2-4 and ibus-anthy_1.4.99.20120327-1. I used a simple way to check if ibus-anthy is activated: simply input something in gedit. ibus itself is always successfully started (can check with ps). I checked with Fedora 19 (having gnome 3.8 and ibus 1.5) and found the expected behavior of ibus is as follows: 1. ibus-setup is no longer used. Instead, gnome 3.8 regional language settings takes over. Specifically, user needs to add their desired ibus input methods in regional language settings as input sources. 2. the hotkey to switch input methods is controlled by regional language settings. The default hotkey is super+space. 3. there is no traditional ibus keyboard icon. Instead, there is an input source indicator icon (see e.g. http://ewgeny.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/russian-language.png?w=584). 4. whether using the same input source for all windows is configurable in regional language settings. After installing ibus-anthy_1.4.99.20120327-1, it does not appear in regional language settings as expected. There is not an item with Japanese (anthy). That may explain why it doesn't work. So it looks like all ibus input methods need to be updated and repackaged to satisfy the new interface of gnome 3.8+ibus 1.5. Bug#657702: More information
Hi Atsuhito, Thank you for your reply. I think the problem may be due to the inconsistence between texworks and the new policy of Debian spelling dictionaries and tools. According to the new policy (see e.g. http://dict-common.alioth.debian.org/dsdt-policy.html#installdir), the new location of the installed hunspell/myspell dictionaries should be /usr/share/hunspell/ rather than the old location /usr/share/myspell/dicts/ Both myspell-en-us and hunspell-en-us packages have correct settings in this sense except that hunspell-en-us no longer maintains symlinks under /usr/share/myspell/dicts/ Please see http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/hunspell-en-us/filelist and http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/myspell-en-us/filelist for reference. However, it seems that texworks does not know this and still looks only the old location /usr/share/myspell/dicts/ I thinks that is why texworks has no spell check when hunspell-en-us instead of myspell-en-us is installed. Hope this is helpful for you to reproduce and investigate the problem. Thank you for your time. In contrast, install myspell dictionaries (e.g., myspell-en-us) and repeat the experiment. * What was the outcome of this action? Bug#626308: gedit: No spellcheck in the GNOME 3 version
Package: gedit Version: 3.0.0-1 Severity: normal Hi, I know most of the GNOME 3 packages are still in experimental and are not ready for daily use. I just want to report a bug of gedit to see if it is a known problem as I did not find it in upstream bug database. Specifically, the 3.0.0 version of gedit appears to be incapable of doing spellcheck. Bug#608076: flashplugin-nonfree: Crashes with gtk2.23.3-2
Package: flashplugin-nonfree Version: 1:2.8.2 Severity: normal Hello, I would like to file a report about the incompatibility of the current version of flashplugin against the experimental version of gtk2. I installed the experimental version of gtk2 to test the latest version of empathy and unfortunately found that flashplugin always crashes after the related upgrade. I know it is not possible to easy fix this due to the closed nature of flashplugin. So, what I want to do is to confirm the bug and add a conflict to this package. Bug#604858: libatlas-test.install
Hi all, It seems to me that the file debian/libatlas-test.install may be related to the building failure. The following lines libatlas-test.install:build/atlas-base/tune/blas/level1/*tst usr/lib/libatlas-test libatlas-test.install:build/atlas-base/tune/blas/gemm/*tst usr/lib/libatlas-test caused errors because there is no file matching the name patterns under build/atlas-base/tune/blas/level1/ and build/atlas-base/tune/blas/gemm/ Moreover, a fresh build from source, ie. dpkg-buildpackage, works as smooth as I can expected. I guess there is something wrong with custom section in debian/rules. Thanks. HZ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#602355: chromium-browser: Error when both html5 enabled and signed-in at youtube
Package: chromium-browser Version: 7.0.544.0~r61416-1 Severity: normal Hello, I found a really strange problem with the experimental version of the package. That is, the browser cannot play in succession videos with html5 enabled given that I am signed in. What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Open youtube.com and sign in, and also enable html5 2. Bug#561775: icedove-3.0: Please provide the link icedove in /usr/bin/
Package: icedove-3.0 Version: 3.0~rc2-2 Severity: normal Dear maintainer, The current icedove-3.0 package does not provide the link icedove in /usr/bin, which is reasonable given the existence of icedove 2.x package. But the gnome-control-center does need the link to provide a predefined Icedove item for default email client; the file gnome-default-applications.xml seems to only match the name icedove rather than icedove-3.0. So, obviously, possible solutions include either providing icedove in /usr/bin, or modifying gnome-control-center package. Bug#552464: [Pkg-scicomp-devel] Bug#552464: libatlas3gf-sse2: No atlas.conf is created
Hi, Thank you for the response. Frankly, I've never reached the mailing list you mentioned. Sorry for that. Maybe the currently selected one, i.e., managed by application itself, is a good choice if using ld.so.conf.d system does be rejected by Standard Version 3.8.3. My only suggest on this fact is to mention the change in document so that we know them. Bug#534292: telepathy-butterfly: Still cannot open chat window for offline contact
Package: telepathy-butterfly Version: 0.3.4-1 Severity: normal Hi, Olivier, Thank you for your reply for bug #523410. I reinstalled telepathy-butterfly 0.3.4-1 and found many problems with previous version were solved. But it seems that the opening chat window problem does exist for offline contact. That is, when I wanna chat with an offline contact, a feature supported by MSNP15, empathy refuses to open the chat window. To re-produce the bug, you can just launch empathy and explicitly request to open new conversation by using the menu item `Chat - New Conversation' and typing an offline contact's live messenger ID in `Contact ID box'. Then, you click `Chat' button. The new conversation window is closed but no new chat window is opened however. I checked the debug log, but no information relating to the the contact ID I have just tried with is available. Hope the information is useful to narrow the problem. Bug#498260: Can scim-python-pinyin follow the packaging approach of ibus-pinyin
Dear Daobing, I'm sorry for disturbing you by raising the old bug report again. First of all, I would like to thank you for the contribution in packaging both scim-python and ibus (and of course other packages). I like ibus so much and hope this new input method framework can successfully replace scim eventually given that the development of scim in upstream has been stopped in fact. When I look at the solution provided by you in packaging ibus-pinyin, I believe it is a really smart one to solve the ``having to download database during building'' problem. Furthermore, I wonder if scim-python-pinyin can be created following the same approach. After all, ibus-pinyin and scim-python-pinyin use the same database in fact (please correct me if I'm wrong). Well, I admit that scim-python has been stopped in upstream. I think it might be better to have a more complete ``workable'' scim-python because scim-python still exists in Debian. Thank you in advance. -- HZ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

This, along with the fix for libxml2 bug 564217, fixes the crashes on connect in XMPP with recent gst-plugins-bad (see #8830 for details). the patch provided in upstream [2] is still needed. Bug#523410: telepathy-butterfly: fails to quit after closing empathy
Subject: telepathy-butterfly: fails to quit after closing empathy Package: telepathy-butterfly Version: 0.3.3-2 Severity: important *** Please type your report below this line *** Telepathy-butterfly is a recommended telepathy connection manager for msn, according to the announcement in its webpage. But it seems that this package has obvious bugs when being used by empathy in current version. For example, when empathy is closed by users, the telepathy-butterfly process resides in memory still and prevents the msn account to normally work when empathy is started again. Another problem is, the chat window for each buddy usually refuses to open. That is, when we double click a particular buddy or right click and select chat by mouse, no chat window will be opened at all. Furthermore, such a problem is almost randomized and hard to predict when encounters. So I wonder if these problems have been observed by other users including the upstream developers. Bug#516566: Looks not so good
Hi, Put a distribution specific logo here is a common way to obtain certain recognition value, nowadays, in many other distributions. But I wonder if Debian should follow the tradition definitely, given the good long history that the official appearance is unchanged. An obvious fact is that the new start-here logo looks not in tune with other default appearance settings of gnome packaged by Debian. So, I suggest to keep the official start-here logo and provide Debian-specific one as an option or even another separate theme package. This is my personal opinion. Bug#481217: libatlas-headers: Atlas's native cblas.h should be provided
Package: libatlas-headers Version: 3.6.0-21.5 Severity: normal Hello, Atlas no longer provides its native cblas.h since version 3.2.1ln-1 (#134488) because libblas-dev has also cblas.h. Such a decision is correct in most cases since atlas usually works as a highly optimized BLAS/LAPACK library. But the cblas.h in atlas is not fully equivalent to that in ordinary BLAS. To be specific, there are a group of functions catlas_xxx defined in atlas, which are not in BLAS. As a result, when atlas is explicitly required (for example, the boost bindings library needs these functions when it tried to bind atlas) some errors would occure. So, is it possible to still provide atlas's cblas.h in libatlas-headers package? This header file could be put in a different place, say /usr/include/atlas, so that no colliction would happen. Bug#471866: The browse command from Plan9's ed
Package: ed Version: 0.7-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Hi, Plan9's ed has a browse, which can be used to browse the file `page by page'. The document about it is: (.)b[+-][pagesize][pln] Browse. Print a `page', normally 20 lines. The optional (default) or specifies whether the next or previous page is to be printed. The optional pagesize is the number of lines in a page. The optional or causes printing in the specified format, initially Pagesize and format are remembered between commands. Dot is left at the last line displayed. Obviously, it is a very convenient feature. (GNU ed claims that ``Prints the addressed lines. If invoked from a terminal, ed pauses at the end of each page until a newline is entered. The current address is set to the last line printed.'' But I don't know how to use it, unfortunately.) Bug#457385: xserver-xorg: Crashed sometimes with intel video device
Hi Brice, Thank you for your mail. Basically, it's really hard for me to save the logs in time, because when this problem occures the screen become black and there is no way to get even a virtual console by (Ctrl-)Alt-Fx. The hotkey Ctrl-Alt-Backspace does not work too. The only thing I can do at that time is to press Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the whole machine reboot. The logs are gotten just after the restarting of the system (including the GDM). And, it is also difficult to reproduce it as desire; I don't know at all when it will happen. But I notice that, it occures always when I am using mouse to click some buttons in firefox/iceweasel. That is, I have encountered this bug several times; for each time, I do click some buttons of firefox/iceweasel, such as the closing button or other buttons of webpages. This is the only clue I can find up to now. I hope this is helpful and not a misleading one. Thank you very much. I am wondering whether this could be caused by the previous X session crashing and letting the hardware in a bad state, and then the new session failing with this message. Did you get this message right after the startup of the X server of later? What happened before this? Did X fail in the same way? Did it crash differently? Have you ever seen this problem after a hard reboot of the machine? Every time you get a problem with X, you should save its log (either Xorg.0.log or Xorg.0.log.old if X already restarted) and see whether you get something strange in the log before the session where you get this errors found in hardware state. Hi Michael, The trace log is produced by a simple command: strace eclipse Considering my PATH setting, which actually is strace /usr/bin/eclipse. I don't know why it will call for /usr/lib/eclipse/usr/lib/eclipse/startup.jar. Anyway, the bug has been fixed now :-) In fact, after the latest upgrade of libgtk2.0, applying the patch 080_from_bugzilla_workaround_eclipse_crash, eclipse works properly. Thank you for your help and discussion. On 10/18/07, Michael Koch [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello, On Tue, Oct 16, 2007 at 04:13:09PM +0800, Hongzheng Wang wrote: Hi, The error log is quite long. Bug#446825: Agree
Hi all, The current version of ghostscript may indeed confuse users since it does not provide output device for X11 while it claims to do so. Let ghostscript not to provide gs and gs-*, however, may not be a final solution. The main reason is that the original gs-* packages are in fact not splitted into two versions at all: X version and non-X version. Therefore, given the new packaging policy, the packages, which depend on gs or gs-gpl or gs-esp, have to be repackaged now; each package must know whether it needs X11.so or not and then depends on ghostscript-x or ghostscript. This solution is clean but time demanding. By the way, a suggestion for the names of packages: is it possible to change ghostscript-x to ghostscript, and rename ghostscript to ghostscript-nox? This naming policy may be more consistent with other debian packages. e.g., vim and vim-nox, emacs22 and emacs22-nox, etc. Thanks. -- HZ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#439637: iceweasel: Unrecognized characters on many many pages
Package: iceweasel Version: 2.0.0.6-1 Severity: normal Hi, Iceweasel suddenly shows many unrecognized characters on many many pages, e.g., http://www.google.com That is, when I visit the front page of Google, iceweasel displays a line of unrecognized string like ``1^LIBraBBGvB8i~t8}5}PB~N~JBB/SBRc'' on the top. This problem exists on many other pages. I have tried to use ``env MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1 iceweasel -safe-mode'', the problem is still there. I checked the HTML source of page which is displayed incorrectly, and found that the source begins with such a strange string: 1^LIBraBBGvB8i~t8}5}PB~N~JBB/SBRc htmlheadmeta http-equiv=content-type content=text/html; charset=UTF-8titleGoogle/titlestyle!-- body,td,a,p,.h{font-family:arial,sans-serif} I don't know how this problem comes. Bug#393746: Letting alias be an option might be better
Hi, Let's take Helvetica for example. Although Arial looks like Helvetica, they are not the same fonts in design; the differences in interface are somewhat noticeable given that the users have been familiar with original Helvetica font. Compared with Arial, however, Nimbus Sans L font, provided by gsfonts/gsfonts-x11 package, is the real clone of Helvetica. Using a different name is just a trademark issue. Therefore, I don't think it is a good idea to treat Arial as a replacement of Helvetica interface given that Nimbus Sans L already exists. Well, Arial et al fonts are designed as replacements in design, but this is just a company decision of Microsoft. And in order to get rid of trademark issues, these fonts do be designed with similar but different interfaces. Why should we follow such a not-so-wise decision? p.s., for the reference of defoma aliasing functionality, I'm not familiar too. I'm sorry for that. On 8/22/07, Thijs Kinkhorst [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Tuesday 21 August 2007 05:27, Hongzheng Wang wrote: Hi all, Although Times New Roman, Arial, and Courier New are designed to be replacements for famous Times, Helvetica, and Courier, they are not the same fonts. After all, the differences are obviouse if the users are familiar with original Times, Helvetica, and Courier. So, I think msttcorefonts package had better provide a user decided option (prompt in configuration) for adding aliases. And, setting the priority to be as same as that in gsfonts might not be good because it will confuse users. I'm not eager to add a configuration question - any such question further complicates and lengthens Debian's installation processes, so there should be good cause. In this case, since the fonts were designed to be drop in replacements of the original Times, Helvetica and Courier I do not see the problem with adding the Aliases. Could you let me know which concrete problem you're facing? I may consider lowering the priority - but I haven't found a reference for priorities yet. Do you have an indication of the scale of these priorities? Thijs -- Hongzheng -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#393746: Letting alias be an option might be better
Perhaps, you misunderstood me :-) I'm not trying to prove msttcorefonts is useless. Instead, I just wanna say that the fonts in msttcorefonts just represent themselves, and they are not perfect replacements for well known Times, Helvetica, and Courier, especially when gsfonts/gsfonts-x11 is available. For the users who love Arial et al fonts more, they can use them directly. Why must we use Arial to provide Helvetica? On the other hand, suppose a web designer hard code Helvetica as the font name he wanna use, he would probabily wish users display the contents with Helvetica rather than Arial or something else, given that Helvetica is available. In summary, please let gsfonts/gsfonts-x11 provide Time, Helvetica, and Courier. Please don't mix Helvetica/Arial etc. Thanks. Bug#435562: gnome-office: Is it possible to add dependency on OpenOffice

The package gnome-office currently depends on abiword, and I believe such a decision does be reasonable. In fact, although OpenOffice is much larger than abiword in size, its productivity exceeds abiword without doubt, which results in the situation mentioned above. Bug#431687: inkscape: Incompatible with gs-gpl when rendering LaTeX formula
Package: inkscape Version: 0.45.1-1 Severity: normal Hi, Frankly speaking, this is a bug of pstoedit and gs-gpl. But I'd like to report it here since it happens first when I use inkscape :-) Because CUPS depends on gs-esp, gs-gpl may not be installed on default. With gs-esp, inkscape can smoothly `insert' LaTeX formula with the aid of pstoedit, though a noticable delay exits. If gs-gpl is installed too and provides `gs' (not the default choice of course), inkscape will fail to render LaTeX formula. That is, the `gs' invoked by pstoedit will exhaust almost all CPU time and still cannot get result. To re-produce this bug is very straightfoward. Open a new svg document, and insert LaTeX formula through menu `Effects - Render - LaTeX formula'. Then the whole program appears hanged. Alternatively, open a console, and type a LaTeX document manually. Then latex it to produce dvi file. Next, generate ps file according to the instructions in eqtexsvg.py. Then, when invoking pstoedit: pstoedit -f plot-svg -dt -ssp ps_file svg_file out_file the problem arises. The output when pstoedit is forcely stopped: pstoedit: version 3.44 / DLL interface 108 (build Mar 11 2007 - release build - g++ 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-21)) : Copyright (C) 1993 - 2006 Wolfgang Glunz PostScript/PDF Interpreter finished.
