Bug#736099: RFP: global6 - new generation of GNU GLOBAL

2014-01-19 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: global6
  Version : 6.2.10
  Upstream authoer: Shigio YAMAGUCHI shi...@gnu.org
* URL   : http://www.gnu.org/software/global/
* License : GPL either version 3, or (at your
option) any later version
  Programming language: C
Description : Version 6 of GNU GLOBAL, a source code
tag system that works the
 same way across diverse environments

GNU GLOBAL is a very excellent and mature source code tag system. It
supports various development environment, such as command line, Emacs,
VI, web broswer etc. It also has a cscope compatible interface. In
addition, its capability can be extended by using GNU ID Utils and
Exuberant CTAGS.

GNU GLOBAL had been packaged and maintained by Ron Lee
r...@debian.org until version 5.7.1. Since then, due to some
disagreement between the upstream and Debian maintainer, GNU GLOBAL's
Debian packages no longer updates and incompatible changes, such as
htmake, are introduced into the Debian packages. Please see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=574947 for details.

By contrast, the development of the upstream of GNU GLOBAL is still
very active. The latest version is 6.2.10 which has many significant
improvements and bug fixes compared with 5.7.1. It would be very
great if Debian can have packages of the new generation (version 6) of
GNU GLOBAL. The Ubuntu users can leverage as well. By having both
original global and the proposed global6 packages in Debian
simultaneously, we can resolve the issue reported by bug #574947.

I have packaged the new versions of GNU GLOBAL by myself. I can
upload the related files to Debian mentor if needed.

Thanks,
Hongzheng

Bug#730742: Need to patch cairo

2014-01-07 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi,

The bug does exist. In order to mitigate, we need to change hint style from
medium/full to slight for Cantarell and even all CFF fonts. A fontconfig conf
checking font name or font format can help in theory. In practice, however,
the setting will be overwritten by gnome setting daemon. We need the famous
Cairo respect fontconfig patch to resolve the bug until FreeType upstream
finds final solution to the issue.

In summary, two things are needed: a fontconfig conf and the Cairo library
patch.

Bug#715568: Gnome 3.8 packages have disbale_ibus

2013-07-22 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi Osamu,

As I reported, IBus 1.5.2 + ibus-pinyin 1.5.0 + Gnome 3.8 is basically
working though it cannot be controlled by Gnome. That is, I have to
type command ibus engine pinyin to enable it.

Per Takao Fujiware's suggestion, I checked the packaging options of
current Gnome 3.8. I found there is disable_ibus. I believe this
can explain why Gnome cannot really control ibus.

There might not be feasible way to mix ibus 1.5.2 and Gnome 3.8.

Thanks,

Bug#715568: ibus-anthy 1.5.3 doesn't work

2013-07-17 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi,

I installed ibus-anthy1.5.3 from experimental. However, this new
input method is not listed in input sources of Gnome 3.8 Region
Language settings. So it is no way for Gnome to activate it.

If this input method is added via ibus-setup, ibus-anthy will be
activated all the time and cannot be turned off.

There seems to be a specific step needed to register input method
installed to Gnome. But I don't know what it is.

Bug#715568: May be different issue

2013-07-14 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Yes, upgrading to gnome 3.8 is still not straightforward but doable.

Right now, I installed ibus_1.5.2-4 and ibus-anthy_1.4.99.20120327-1.
I used a simple way to check if ibus-anthy is activated: simply input
something in gedit. ibus itself is always successfully started (can
check with ps).

I checked with Fedora 19 (having gnome 3.8 and ibus 1.5) and found the
expected behavior of ibus is as follows:

1. ibus-setup is no longer used. Instead, gnome 3.8 regional
language settings takes over. Specifically, user needs to add their
desired ibus input methods in regional language settings as input
sources.

2. the hotkey to switch input methods is controlled by regional
language settings. The default hotkey is super+space.

3. there is no traditional ibus keyboard icon. Instead, there is an
input source indicator icon (see e.g.
http://ewgeny.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/russian-language.png?w=584).

4. whether using the same input source for all windows is configurable
in regional language settings.

After installing ibus-anthy_1.4.99.20120327-1, it does not appear in
regional language settings as expected. There is not an item with
Japanese (anthy). That may explain why it doesn't work.

So it looks like all ibus input methods need to be updated and
repackaged to satisfy the new interface of gnome 3.8+ibus 1.5.

Thanks,
Hongzheng

 I am running gnome-shell 3.8 from experimental.

So you are doing better than me. 3.4 here. No systemd yet.

After installing ibus-1.5.2-2, I found ibus cannot start.

I updated to 1.5.2-4 which has all the upstream patches included.

Error messages show kind of connection refuses (when I try to start
the daemon manually). I checked and found it is due to libibus-1.0-0

needs to be conflict against that.

I think I fail since I am not yet using 3.8. Can you point me to a

Hi all,

As a temporary solution, I made an unofficial build of version 6.2.7.
The dsc and debian files are attached.

The instruction to build the packages (for users not familiar with
Debian packaging):

step 1: Install build-essential, devscripts, debhelper,
autotools-dev, libncursesw5-dev, and libncurses5-dev (probably
id-utils and exuberant-ctags as well for their support)
step 2: Download the original source tarball from
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/global/global-6.2.7.tar.gz and rename it
into global_6.2.7.orig.tar.gz
step 3: Download global_6.2.7-1.dsc and global_6.2.7-1.debian.tar.gz
and put them at the same directory as global_6.2.7.orig.tar.gz
step 4: Run `dpkg-source -x global_6.2.7-1.dsc' to generate directory
global-6.2.7
step 5: Run `cd global-6.2.7; debuild -us -uc'
If everything goes well, the deb file will be generated at the parent directory.

2012-03-27 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: epiphany-browser
Version: 3.3.91-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I found epiphany browser does not have boldface for non-latin
characters. For example, the following is a simple html document:

html
head
meta http-equiv=Content-Type content=charset=utf-8
titleTest Boldface of Non-latin Characters/title
/head
body
strongHello 世界/strong
/body
/html

As indicated by the html codes, the file has a sentence containing two
strings: Hello and 世界 in boldface. The expected behavior is that
both Hello and 世界 are in boldface when being displayed in
epiphany. However, only the first string Hello is in boldface and the
second non-latin one 世界 is still in regular form. By contrast, when
I use iceweasel to render it, both Hello and 世界 are in boldface.

I tested both the versions of epiphany in sid and experimental with
updated webkit library. The buggy behavior can be reproduced.

Please let me know if you need more information. Thank you very much.

Bug#664983: Thank you, Enrico

2012-03-22 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi Enrico,

Thank you. Your workaround saved me!

I fortunately have another old computer running Windows (yes, THE MS
Windows), by which I can still browse the web and find your solution.
Otherwise, it would be a quite awkward situation for me as there is no vim,
no network, and no web browser ... given the wrong fundamental PCRE
libraries.

Best,
HZ

Bug#658565: gnome: Please remove gnome-documents from dependency

2012-02-03 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: gnome
Version: 1:3.0+7
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

The new version of gnome meta package depends on gnome-documents which
in ture depends on tracker. Since tracker can produce an I/O intensive
background running, thereby slowing the computer a lot, it may not be
desirable to all GNOME users. Furthermore, gnome-documents has also
many problems in daily use. I just wondered if gnome-documents could
be recommended instead of being depended?

Thank you for your consideration.

Best,
HZ

Bug#657702: More information

2012-01-30 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi Atsuhito,

Thank you for your reply. I think the problem may be due to the
inconsistence between texworks and the new policy of Debian spelling
dictionaries and tools.

According to the new policy (see e.g.
http://dict-common.alioth.debian.org/dsdt-policy.html#installdir), the
new location of the installed hunspell/myspell dictionaries should be
  /usr/share/hunspell/
rather than the old location
  /usr/share/myspell/dicts/
Both myspell-en-us and hunspell-en-us packages have correct settings
in this sense except that hunspell-en-us no longer maintains symlinks
under
  /usr/share/myspell/dicts/
Please see http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/hunspell-en-us/filelist
and http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/myspell-en-us/filelist for
reference. However, it seems that texworks does not know this and
still looks only the old location
  /usr/share/myspell/dicts/
I thinks that is why texworks has no spell check when hunspell-en-us
instead of myspell-en-us is installed. Hope this is helpful for you
to reproduce and investigate the problem.

Thank you for your time.

Best,
HZ

Bug#657702: texworks: Cannot use hunspell dictionaries for spellcheck

2012-01-27 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: texworks
Version: 0.5~svn952-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
My texworks cannot perform spell check if hunspell dictionaries are
   installed.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Install hunspell dictionaries (e.g., hunspell-en-us) and observe
whether texworks can perform spekk check.
In contrast, install myspell dictionaries (e.g., myspell-en-us) and
   repeat the experiment.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
Only myspell dictionaries can be used.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Should myspell dictionaries be equivalent to hunspell dictionaries in
   function in this scenario?

Bug#626308: gedit: No spellcheck in the GNOME 3 version

2011-05-10 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: gedit
Version: 3.0.0-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I know most of the GNOME 3 packages are still in experimental and are
not ready for daily use. I just want to report a bug of gedit to see if
it is a known problem as I did not find it in upstream bug database.

Specifically, the 3.0.0 version of gedit appears to be incapable of
doing spellcheck. In the Preferences-Plugins tab page, turning on/off
of spellcheck plugin makes no difference to the behavior and its
preferences button is inactive all the time. Moreover, it seems that
other plugins shipped do not work as well.

Thanks.

Bug#617723: chromium: Breaks Preferred Applications setting in Gnome

2011-03-10 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: chromium
Version: 10.0.648.114~r75702-1
Severity: important

Hello,

I found a very annoy problem after installing chromium-browser. That
is, once this package is installed, the Default Browser of Preferred
Applications in Gnome no longer works. No matter which browser I set to
default, chromium takes the role all the time. For example, click an url in
the dialog of About Gnome will always launch chromium. xdg-open command also
launches chromium even gnome-www-browser and x-www-browser are set to other
browsers.

Though chromium is very good browser, such a rude behavior is really
unpleasant.

Furthermore, a manually modification of mimeinfo.cache under
/usr/share/applications/ seems to be able solve the problem temporarily.

Thanks.

Bug#617723: chromium: Breaks Preferred Applications setting in Gnome

2011-03-10 Thread Hongzheng Wang
I just found this issue has been extensively investigated in one of
Debian mailing lists.

http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2011/02/msg00300.html

It seems that the issue involves a strategic shift of Gnome itself.
So, I believe it is really not a bug of Chromium. You may close the
bug report as you like. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Thanks.

 Thanks.

Bug#613745: upower: Screen often blinks

2011-02-16 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: upower
Version: 0.9.8-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

After upgrading to the latest version 0.9.8-2, I found the screen of my
computer often blinks. The frequency is about 1-2 per minute. By
contrast, when I downgraded the package to 0.9.5-5, the problem
disapears.

Moreover, the problem dosen't exist on my notebook computer. So, it may
be related to specific hardware.

The computer having the problem is a Dell Optiplex 755 desktop with ATI
Technologies Inc RV610 [Radeon HD 2400 XT].

Thanks.

2011-01-17 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: iceweasel
Version: 4.0~b9-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I found that Iceweasel cannot save some web pages when the Sync feature
is used and the Sync account is connected. Specifically, for particular
web pages the Save Page As ... command will result in non-responsible
Download dialog. When the Sync account is disconnected, however, the
problem does not exist. Moreover, the upstream Firefox build (32-bit)
has no the bug. The nspr_log_modules log will be attached in the

Bug#608076: flashplugin-nonfree: Crashes with gtk2.23.3-2

2010-12-26 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: flashplugin-nonfree
Version: 1:2.8.2
Severity: normal

Hello,

I would like to file a report about the incompatibility of the current
version of flashplugin against the experimental version of gtk2. I
installed the experimental version of gtk2 to test the latest version of
empathy and unfortunately found that flashplugin always crashes after
the related upgrade. I know it is not possible to easy fix this due to
the closed nature of flashplugin. So, what I want to do is to confirm the
bug and add a conflict to this package. Should you need further
information, please let me know.

Thanks.

Bug#604858: libatlas-test.install

2010-11-30 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi all,

It seems to me that the file debian/libatlas-test.install may be
related to the building failure. The following lines
  libatlas-test.install:build/atlas-base/tune/blas/level1/*tst
usr/lib/libatlas-test
  libatlas-test.install:build/atlas-base/tune/blas/gemm/*tst
usr/lib/libatlas-test
caused errors because there is no file matching the name patterns under
  build/atlas-base/tune/blas/level1/
and
  build/atlas-base/tune/blas/gemm/

Moreover, a fresh build from source, ie. dpkg-buildpackage, works as
smooth as I can expected. I guess there is something wrong with
custom section in debian/rules.

Thanks.

Bug#602355: chromium-browser: Error when both html5 enabled and signed-in at youtube

2010-11-09 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi Jonathan,

Just to confirm: I have just tested google-chrome-beta and this
problem doesn't exist.

Google Chrome 8.0.552.28 (Official Build 64647) beta
WebKit 534.10
V8 2.4.9.11
User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US)
AppleWebKit/534.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/8.0.552.28 Safari/534.10
Command Line /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome --flag-switches-begin
--flag-switches-end

By the way, I also tried to upgrade libv8 to experimental version when
I test chromium 7.0.544 in experimental. The bug is still there even
the new libv8 is used.

Thank you very much.

Bug#602355: chromium-browser: Error when both html5 enabled and signed-in at youtube

2010-11-03 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: chromium-browser
Version: 7.0.544.0~r61416-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

I found a really strange problem with the experimental version of the
package. That is, the browser cannot play in succession videos with
html5 enabled given that I am signed in.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open youtube.com and sign in, and also enable html5
2. Play a video using html5
3. Play another video using html5

What is the expected result?
Both of these videos should be properly played

What happens instead?
An error occurs:
Aw, snap! Something went wrong while displaying this webpage ...

If I didn't sign in or html5 is not enabled, there is no such a problem.
Older version, say 6.0.472, doesn't have this bug too.

Bug#587324: gemanx-gtk2: Please enable iplookup feature

2010-06-27 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: gemanx-gtk2
Version: 0.1.0.3-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

gemanx supports the feature of IP location lookup which is very useful
to China locations. But this feature is not enabled by default
(--enable-iplookup). Since it is a very convenient feature and has been
enabled in pcmanx (the father of gemanx in some sense) without any
problem, I wonder if it can be turned on too.

Thanks.

Bug#561775: icedove-3.0: Please provide the link icedove in /usr/bin/

2009-12-20 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: icedove-3.0
Version: 3.0~rc2-2
Severity: normal

Dear maintainer,

The current icedove-3.0 package does not provide the link icedove in
/usr/bin, which is reasonable given the existence of icedove 2.x
package. But the gnome-control-center does need the link to provide a
predefined Icedove item for default email client; the file
gnome-default-applications.xml seems to only match the name icedove
rather than icedove-3.0. So, obviously, possible solutions include
either providing icedove in /usr/bin, or modifying gnome-control-center
package.

Thank you very much.

Bug#552464: [Pkg-scicomp-devel] Bug#552464: libatlas3gf-sse2: No atlas.conf is created

2009-11-09 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi,

Thank you for the response. Frankly, I've never reached the mailing
list you mentioned. Sorry for that.

Maybe the currently selected one, i.e., managed by application itself,
is a good choice if using ld.so.conf.d system does be rejected by
Standard Version 3.8.3. My only suggest on this fact is to mention
the change in document so that we know them.

mechanism to let hardware optimized package (sse2 package for example)
override the base one in runtime?
For now, the application has to manage this itself.

 I started a discussion here:

But I didn't get many feedbacks.

Bug#549290: vim-gnome: What does as superuser mean

2009-10-02 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: vim-gnome
Version: 2:7.2.245-2
Severity: normal

I have not used GUI vim for long time. Today I accidently launched
gvim from gnome-terminal and found there is a string (as superuser) in
the window title bar of gvim. Since superuser is an important word in
Linux world, I would like to file the report to verify the behavior.

To be specific, launching gvim from console will have a gvim window
whose title bar contains xxx - GVIM (as superuser) where xxx is the
opened file. If -f option is used, no (as superuser), however.

I have tested by using -u NONE -U NONE, and the problem still exists.
Fortunately, gvim seems not gets root privilege even (as superuser)
exists.

Thanks.

Bug#544155: Found the same thing as what Witold Baryluk did

2009-08-31 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi,

I'm using Thinkpad T43 too, and encounters the same problem. I did
similar tests as what Witold Baryluk did and found the same results.
Similarly, grub-pc has never used graphical terminal on my computer
since I switched from grub-legacy to grub-pc. Instead, it seems that
grub-pc always believes text-mode should be used. There may be
something T43 specific and hard to detect. Sorry, I can't help debug
it because I'm not familiar with grub2.

Best Regards,

Bug#535578: ibus-pinyin: Please enable GBK support or mention in document

2009-07-03 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: ibus-pinyin
Version: 1.2.0.20090617+1-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi Daobing,

Although ibus-pinyin can support GBK, it is not enabled at default. As
a result, it may be somewhat confusing for novice users that ibus-pinyin
can only input the characters in GB2312. I wonder if you can set the
option enabled as default when packaging ibus-pinyin, or mention the
existence of the option in its document, e.g. README.Debian.

Thank you very much.

Bug#534292: telepathy-butterfly: Still cannot open chat window for offline contact

2009-06-23 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: telepathy-butterfly
Version: 0.3.4-1
Severity: normal

Hi, Olivier,

Thank you for your reply for bug #523410.

I reinstalled telepathy-butterfly 0.3.4-1 and found many problems with previous
version were solved. But it seems that the opening chat window problem does
exist for offline contact. That is, when I wanna chat with an offline contact,
a
feature supported by MSNP15, empathy refuses to open the chat window.

To re-produce the bug, you can just launch empathy and explicitly request to
open new conversation by using the menu item `Chat - New Conversation'
and typing an offline contact's live messenger ID in `Contact ID box'. Then,
you
click `Chat' button. The new conversation window is closed but no new chat
window is opened however.

I checked the debug log, but no information relating to the the contact ID I
have
just tried with is available.

Hope the information is useful to narrow the problem.

Thank you very much.

cups has a strict dependency on ssl-cert, so that should be installed.

Bug#498260: Can scim-python-pinyin follow the packaging approach of ibus-pinyin

2009-05-31 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Dear Daobing,

I'm sorry for disturbing you by raising the old bug report again.

First of all, I would like to thank you for the contribution in
packaging both scim-python and ibus (and of course other packages). I
like ibus so much and hope this new input method framework can
successfully replace scim eventually given that the development of
scim in upstream has been stopped in fact.

When I look at the solution provided by you in packaging ibus-pinyin,
I believe it is a really smart one to solve the ``having to download
database during building'' problem. Furthermore, I wonder if
scim-python-pinyin can be created following the same approach. After
all, ibus-pinyin and scim-python-pinyin use the same database in fact
(please correct me if I'm wrong). Well, I admit that scim-python has
been stopped in upstream. I think it might be better to have a more
complete ``workable'' scim-python because scim-python still exists in
Debian.

Thank you in advance.

Bug#522669: Please apply the patch to fix the crashing of pidgin

2009-05-21 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi,

Pidgin has just released 2.5.6 version and fixed the bug from the view
point of pidgin. But the fixing also needs the effort of libxml.
According to pidgin's changelog [1]:

* Make XML parsing more resilient to interactions with other
libraries. This, along with the fix for libxml2 bug 564217, fixes the
crashes on connect in XMPP with recent gst-plugins-bad (see #8830 for
details).

the patch provided in upstream [2] is still needed. Hope you can
apply the patch so that the problem is eventually fixed.

Bug#519112: For bug #522944

2009-04-15 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi,

Bug #522944 has been forcibly merged into #519112, and the latter one
seems have been fixed by Andrey Melnikov through his patch for
libxml2. But I wonder if they are really suffering the same problem.
In fact, in upstream, the bug report (namely ticket #8594) may be more
suitable for bug #522944 [1]. And this problem will be fixed in
upstream 5.6.0.

Bug#523410: telepathy-butterfly: fails to quit after closing empathy

2009-04-10 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Subject: telepathy-butterfly: fails to quit after closing empathy
Package: telepathy-butterfly
Version: 0.3.3-2
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Telepathy-butterfly is a recommended telepathy connection manager for
msn, according to the announcement in its webpage. But it seems that
this package has obvious bugs when being used by empathy in current
version. For example, when empathy is closed by users, the
telepathy-butterfly process resides in memory still and prevents the msn
account to normally work when empathy is started again. Another problem
is, the chat window for each buddy usually refuses to open. That is,
when we double click a particular buddy or right click and select chat
by mouse, no chat window will be opened at all. Furthermore, such a
problem is almost randomized and hard to predict when encounters.

So I wonder if these problems have been observed by other users
including the upstream developers.

Thank you very much.

Bug#516566: Looks not so good

2009-03-20 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi,

Put a distribution specific logo here is a common way to obtain
certain recognition value, nowadays, in many other distributions. But
I wonder if Debian should follow the tradition definitely, given the
good long history that the official appearance is unchanged. An
obvious fact is that the new start-here logo looks not in tune with
other default appearance settings of gnome packaged by Debian. So, I
suggest to keep the official start-here logo and provide
Debian-specific one as an option or even another separate theme
package.

This is my personal opinion. Any suggestions are welcome :)

Bug#504494: texlive-formats-extra: Requires miniltx.tex in texlive-plain-extra

2008-11-04 Thread Hongzheng Wang

texlive-plain-extra so that the documented behavior works.

Thanks.

Subject: maxima: Strange error with the latest version
Package: maxima
Version: 5.15.0-2

Hi,

After upgrading to the latest version, 5.15, I found some strange
errors when using it. To be specific, suppose we try to solve such an
integration:
integrate(exp(x)*x, x, 0, r);

it will report:
Maxima encountered a Lisp error:
Error in SYMBOL-NAME [or a callee]: Is is not of type SYMBOL.
 Automatically continuing.
To reenable the Lisp debugger set *debugger-hook* to nil.

However, it seems OK in older version of maxima. Is there any
non-compatible change in upstream? Or something else wrong?

Thank you very much.

sed: can't read c/bash_comple: No such file or directory

But not all commands fail to work. Say, type `nvi /et' and press tab,

Bug#481217: libatlas-headers: Atlas's native cblas.h should be provided

2008-05-14 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: libatlas-headers
Version: 3.6.0-21.5
Severity: normal

Hello,

Atlas no longer provides its native cblas.h since version 3.2.1ln-1
(#134488) because libblas-dev has also cblas.h. Such a decision is
correct in most cases since atlas usually works as a highly optimized
BLAS/LAPACK library. But the cblas.h in atlas is not fully equivalent
to that in ordinary BLAS. To be specific, there are a group of
functions catlas_xxx defined in atlas, which are not in BLAS. As a
result, when atlas is explicitly required (for example, the boost
bindings library needs these functions when it tried to bind atlas)
some errors would occure.

So, is it possible to still provide atlas's cblas.h in
libatlas-headers package? This header file could be put in a
different place, say /usr/include/atlas, so that no colliction would
happen.

Thanks.

Bug#471866: The browse command from Plan9's ed

2008-03-20 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: ed
Version: 0.7-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

Plan9's ed has a browse, which can be used to browse the file `page by
page'. The document about it is:

(.)b[+-][pagesize][pln]
Browse. Print a `page', normally 20 lines. The optional (default) or
specifies whether the next or previous page is to be printed. The
optional pagesize is the number of lines in a page. The optional or
causes printing in the specified format, initially Pagesize and format
are remembered between commands. Dot is left at the last line
displayed.

Obviously, it is a very convenient feature. (GNU ed claims that
``Prints the addressed lines. If invoked from a terminal, ed
pauses at the end of each page until a newline is entered. The
current address is set to the last line printed.'' But I don't know
how to use it, unfortunately.)

As an initial try, I modified the source file `main_loop.c', based on
GNU ed version 0.9, and basically implement it. The patch is attached
below:

Bug#466268: apt: Could not exec dpkg (Hurd)

2008-02-17 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.10
Severity: normal

Hi,

Recently, I began to use Debian Hurd. The whole system works well.
But after upgrading to the up-to-date state, there appears to be a
mismatch between apt and dpkg. That is, the apt could not exec dpkg.
Each time when I use apt system to install/upgrade/remove packages,
apt always reports:
...
Preconfiguring packages ...
Could not exec dpkg!
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (100)

But if I mannually execute dpkg to handle the cached packages under
/var/cache/apt/archives/, dpkg works properly.

Thanks.

Bug#463716: linux-image-2.6.24-1-686: hwclock fails without --directisa

2008-02-02 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: linux-image-2.6.24-1-686
Version: 2.6.24-2
Severity: normal

Hello,

After installing this new kernel image, hwclock could not work now.
For example, hwclock --systohc will report
select() to /dev/rtc to wait for clock tick timed out
As a result, /etc/init.d/hwclock.sh will fail and the system clock
may be incorrect. But, if --directisa is used, the problem is gone.
Is this a duplicated or related bug with #277298?

Thanks.

Bug#457385: xserver-xorg: Crashed sometimes with intel video device

2007-12-22 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi Brice,

Thank you for your mail. Basically, it's really hard for me to save
the logs in time, because when this problem occures the screen become
black and there is no way to get even a virtual console by
(Ctrl-)Alt-Fx. The hotkey Ctrl-Alt-Backspace does not work too. The
only thing I can do at that time is to press Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the
whole machine reboot. The logs are gotten just after the restarting
of the system (including the GDM). And, it is also difficult to
reproduce it as desire; I don't know at all when it will happen. But
I notice that, it occures always when I am using mouse to click some
buttons in firefox/iceweasel. That is, I have encountered this bug
several times; for each time, I do click some buttons of
firefox/iceweasel, such as the closing button or other buttons of
webpages. This is the only clue I can find up to now. I hope this is
helpful and not a misleading one.

Thank you very much.

I am wondering whether this could be caused by the previous X session
crashing and letting the hardware in a bad state, and then the new
 session failing with this message.

Did you get this message right after the startup of the X server of
later? What happened before this? Did X fail in the same way? Did it
crash differently? Have you ever seen this problem after a hard reboot
 of the machine?

Every time you get a problem with X, you should save its log (either
Xorg.0.log or Xorg.0.log.old if X already restarted) and see whether you
get something strange in the log before the session where you get this
 errors found in hardware state.

Do you have a way to reproduce the problem easily?

Bug#451593: openoffice.org: Default fonts is improperly set to Liberation

2007-11-17 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1:2.3.0.dfsg-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

It seems that the default fonts is set to Liberation fonts in the
up-to-date version shipped by Debian Sid, such as Thorndale etc.
Liberation fonts, however, has not been packaged by Debian yet. So,
the current settings might confused users since there are not
Thorndale fonts available in their systems at all.

Thanks.

Bug#451746: gstreamer0.10-plugins-base: Internal data flow error while playing mp3

2007-11-17 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: gstreamer0.10-plugins-base
Version: 0.10.15-1
Severity: important

Hi,

After upgrading to this up-to-date version of gstreamer-plugins-base,
mp3 format files cannot be played. For example:
$gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///tmp/test.mp3
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
Pipeline is PREROLLING ...
ERROR: from element /playbin0/source: Internal data flow error.
Additional debug info:
gstbasesrc.c(2099): gst_base_src_loop (): /playbin0/source:
streaming task paused, reason error (-5)
ERROR: pipeline doesn't want to preroll.
Setting pipeline to NULL ...
FREEING pipeline ...

Downgrading it to 0.10.14-4 can solve the problem:
$gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///tmp/test.mp3
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
JACK tmpdir identified as [/dev/shm]
Pipeline is PREROLLING ...
Pipeline is PREROLLED ...
Setting pipeline to PLAYING ...
New clock: GstAudioSinkClock
Caught interrupt -- handling interrupt.
Interrupt: Stopping pipeline ...
Execution ended after 1835107000 ns.
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
Setting pipeline to READY ...
Setting pipeline to NULL ...
FREEING pipeline ...

Thanks.

Bug#446299: May be the same bug as #443905

2007-10-17 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi Michael,

The trace log is produced by a simple command:
strace eclipse
Considering my PATH setting, which actually is strace /usr/bin/eclipse.
I don't know why it will call for /usr/lib/eclipse/usr/lib/eclipse/startup.jar.

Anyway, the bug has been fixed now :-) In fact, after the latest
upgrade of libgtk2.0, applying the patch
080_from_bugzilla_workaround_eclipse_crash, eclipse works properly.

Thank you for your help and discussion.

Huh? It tries to load /usr/lib/eclipse/usr/lib/eclipse/startup.jar but
 the real name is /usr/lib/eclipse/startup.jar.

How do you start eclipse? Via command line or menu entr? If by command
 line, invoking /usr/bin/eclipse or /usr/lib/eclipse/eclipse?

 Cheers,

Bug#446825: Agree

2007-10-16 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi all,

The current version of ghostscript may indeed confuse users since it
does not provide output device for X11 while it claims to do so. Let
ghostscript not to provide gs and gs-*, however, may not be a final
solution. The main reason is that the original gs-* packages are in
fact not splitted into two versions at all: X version and non-X
version. Therefore, given the new packaging policy, the packages,
which depend on gs or gs-gpl or gs-esp, have to be repackaged now;
each package must know whether it needs X11.so or not and then depends
on ghostscript-x or ghostscript. This solution is clean but time
demanding.

By the way, a suggestion for the names of packages: is it possible to
change ghostscript-x to ghostscript, and rename ghostscript to
ghostscript-nox? This naming policy may be more consistent with other
debian packages. e.g., vim and vim-nox, emacs22 and emacs22-nox, etc.

Thanks.

Sorry, your subject line irritated me totally. Neither eclipse nor SUN

Bug#446080: vim-latexsuite: Broken items in addon registry

2007-10-10 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: vim-latexsuite
Version: 20060325-4.1
Severity: normal

The addon registry vim-latexsuite.yaml contains two items:
  - ftplugin/tex/brackets.vim
  - ftplugin/tex/texviewer.vim
But these files do not exist. As a result, vim-addon install will
create two broken links under ~/.vim/ftplugin/tex/ and may confuse
vim-addon-manager to report its per user status to be broken (I'm not
sure about the mechanism of vim-add-manager status collection).

Thanks.

Bug#439637: iceweasel: Unrecognized characters on many many pages

2007-08-26 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.6-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

Iceweasel suddenly shows many unrecognized characters on many many
pages, e.g., http://www.google.com
That is, when I visit the front page of Google, iceweasel displays a
line of unrecognized string like ``1^LIBraBBGvB8i~t8}5}PB~N~JBB/SBRc''
on the top. This problem exists on many other pages.

I have tried to use ``env MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1 iceweasel -safe-mode'',
the problem is still there.

I checked the HTML source of page which is displayed incorrectly, and
found that the source begins with such a strange string:

1^LIBraBBGvB8i~t8}5}PB~N~JBB/SBRc
htmlheadmeta http-equiv=content-type
content=text/html; charset=UTF-8titleGoogle/titlestyle!--
body,td,a,p,.h{font-family:arial,sans-serif}

I don't know how this problem comes. It is really boring.

P.S., I also tested other browsers, such as epiphany, official firefox,
and opera. Except for opera, other Gecko based browsers have the
problem too.

Thanks.

Bug#393746: Letting alias be an option might be better

2007-08-23 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi,

Let's take Helvetica for example. Although Arial looks like
Helvetica, they are not the same fonts in design; the differences in
interface are somewhat noticeable given that the users have been
familiar with original Helvetica font. Compared with Arial, however,
Nimbus Sans L font, provided by gsfonts/gsfonts-x11 package, is the
real clone of Helvetica. Using a different name is just a trademark
issue. Therefore, I don't think it is a good idea to treat Arial as a
replacement of Helvetica interface given that Nimbus Sans L already
exists.

Well, Arial et al fonts are designed as replacements in design, but
this is just a company decision of Microsoft. And in order to get rid
of trademark issues, these fonts do be designed with similar but
different interfaces. Why should we follow such a not-so-wise
decision?

p.s., for the reference of defoma aliasing functionality, I'm not
familiar too. I'm sorry for that.

good because it will confuse users.

I'm not eager to add a configuration question - any such question further
complicates and lengthens Debian's installation processes, so there should be
 good cause.

In this case, since the fonts were designed to be drop in replacements of the
original Times, Helvetica and Courier I do not see the problem with adding
the Aliases. Could you let me know which concrete problem you're facing?

I may consider lowering the priority - but I haven't found a reference for
priorities yet. Do you have an indication of the scale of these priorities?

Bug#393746: Letting alias be an option might be better

2007-08-23 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Perhaps, you misunderstood me :-)

I'm not trying to prove msttcorefonts is useless. Instead, I just
wanna say that the fonts in msttcorefonts just represent themselves,
and they are not perfect replacements for well known Times, Helvetica,
and Courier, especially when gsfonts/gsfonts-x11 is available. For
the users who love Arial et al fonts more, they can use them directly.
Why must we use Arial to provide Helvetica? On the other hand,
suppose a web designer hard code Helvetica as the font name he wanna
use, he would probabily wish users display the contents with Helvetica
rather than Arial or something else, given that Helvetica is
available.

In summary, please let gsfonts/gsfonts-x11 provide Time, Helvetica,
and Courier. Please don't mix Helvetica/Arial etc. Thanks.

Well, the msttcorefonts package is there if you want to use those Microsoft

Bug#436188: smbclient: /usr/lib/cups/backend/smb failed

2007-08-06 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: smbclient
Version: 3.0.25b-1+b1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I have just noticed that smbclient 3.0.25b-1+b1 failed CUPS connection
with samba backend. That is, CUPS reports '/usr/lib/cups/backend/smb
failed'. After downgrading to version 3.0.25b-1, however, this problem
disappeared. So, I guess there might be some problems with the
up-to-date version of smbclient.

BTW, the printer I'm using is HP Laserjet 2420 installed on a WinNT box,
which works properly through CUPS with samba before upgrading to version
3.0.25b-1+b1

Thanks.

Bug#435562: gnome-office: Is it possible to add dependency on OpenOffice

2007-08-01 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: gnome-office
Version: 1:2.18.3
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

This is not a bug, just a good wish.

The package gnome-office currently depends on abiword, and I believe
such a decision does be reasonable. But I found abiword is actually
seldom be used if OpenOffice exists in the work environment arround me.
In fact, although OpenOffice is much larger than abiword in size, its
productivity exceeds abiword without doubt, which results in the
situation mentioned above. Therefore, I wonder if gnome-office can be
added an optional dependence on abiword or OpenOffice, so that users
could be given the opportunity to select proper package on themselves.

Thanks.

Bug#431687: inkscape: Incompatible with gs-gpl when rendering LaTeX formula

2007-07-04 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: inkscape
Version: 0.45.1-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

Frankly speaking, this is a bug of pstoedit and gs-gpl. But I'd like to
report it here since it happens first when I use inkscape :-)

Because CUPS depends on gs-esp, gs-gpl may not be installed on default.
With gs-esp, inkscape can smoothly `insert' LaTeX formula with the aid
of pstoedit, though a noticable delay exits. If gs-gpl is installed too
and provides `gs' (not the default choice of course), inkscape will fail
to render LaTeX formula. That is, the `gs' invoked by pstoedit will
exhaust almost all CPU time and still cannot get result.

To re-produce this bug is very straightfoward. Open a new svg document,
and insert LaTeX formula through menu `Effects - Render - LaTeX
formula'. Then the whole program appears hanged.

Alternatively, open a console, and type a LaTeX document manually. Then
latex it to produce dvi file. Next, generate ps file according to the
instructions in eqtexsvg.py. Then, when invoking pstoedit:
pstoedit -f plot-svg -dt -ssp ps_file svg_file out_file
the problem arises.

The output when pstoedit is forcely stopped:
pstoedit: version 3.44 / DLL interface 108 (build Mar 11 2007 - release
build - g++ 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-21)) : Copyright
(C) 1993 - 2006 Wolfgang Glunz
PostScript/PDF Interpreter finished. Return status 2 executed command :
/usr/bin/gs -q -dDELAYBIND -dWRITESYSTEMDICT -dNODISPLAY -dNOEPS
/tmp/psinIBs5Kh
The interpreter seems to have failed, cannot proceed !

Thank you.

Bug#431338: texlive-base-bin: config.ps needs to be updated to support powerdot

2007-07-02 Thread Hongzheng Wang

Hi Norbert,

I have tried to use the newer one. Then the powerdot examples, i.e.,
/usr/share/doc/texlive-latex-recommended/latex/powerdot/powerdot-example*
can be processed correctly. Otherwise, by tex - dvi - ps - pdf,
the final pdf file will have a wrong paper size. But, frankly
speaking, I'm not sure if the newer config.ps will cause other
problems. So, comments are welcome :-)

Thanks.

I wonder if the current config.ps shipped by texlive-base-bin could be
replaced with the newer one? Or is there any potential problems which
 prohibit such a simple displacement?

Anyone can comment on this? I don't see any problem.

BTW, Hongzheng, could you just try it? Replace
/etc/texmf/dvips/config/config.ps
with the one downloaded and please test several documents. If everything
works I guess I do some more tests and replace the file.

Best wishes

Norbert
