Bug#714836: ITP: qucs -- an integrated circuit simulator with a graphical user interface
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: José L. Redrejo Rodríguez * Package name: qucs Version : 0.0.17 Upstream Author : Frans Schreuder * URL : http://qucs.sourceforge.net/ * License : GPL Description : Quite Universal Circuit Simulator Qucs is an integrated circuit simulator which means you are able to setup a circuit with a graphical user interface (GUI) and simulate the large-signal, small-signal and noise behaviour of the circuit. After that simulation has finished you can view the simulation results on a presentation page or window. Qucs was in Debian until Squeeze, but it had to be removed because it didn't compile with qt4 libs. Recently, upstream has released a qt4 based version, so I'm intending to include it in Debian again. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
Bug#672778: RM: gambas2 -- RoM; obsolete
Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal Please, remove the source package gambas2 from unstable. This source package builds 20 binary package that should be removed too. Gambas2 can not be compiled with current qt4 and kde libraries in wheezy/unstable. The old gambas2 compilation in the archive is totally useless in the current sid/wheezy archive. Also, upstream has recently released Gambas3 (which is waiting in the Debian New queue right now) and it's maintaining only gambas2 security patches that can not be applied in wheezy/sid either. All the packages in the archive depending on gambas2 have already been removed. Regards. José L. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#671387: Please add gambas3 interpreter to lintian
Package: lintian Severity: wishlist Gambas is a complete visual development environment for BASIC in linux. The new version of Gambas, called Gambas3 and considered stable by upstream, has gbr3 as its interpreter and will be uploaded to Debian (in the gambas3-runtime package) in the short future. So, please, add gbr3 as interpreter to lintian. Also, the old version of Gambas had gbx2 and gbr2 as its interpreter and it's already in Debian in the gambas2-runtime package, which we are going to ask for removal before the Wheezy release, as soon as gambas is accepted by the ftp masters. I will fill a new bug against lintian to ask for the removal of gbr2 and gbx2 as interpreters as soon as gambas2-runtime is removed from the archive. Will ldap2zone remove previous zones in a bind configuration. I.E. not installing a new server, but moving it from a classroom to another or from a school to another, will it remove previous configs and create new ones? Anyway, at the end of it, I don't see any benefit from going back to bind9 and having to change the configurations again, and having to train the technical stuff again... If the change is due only to an admin tool, and not because the dns solution is better, I can't see a reason to change, as I can not use that admin tool. > Happy hacking, signature.asc Description: Esta parte del mensaje está firmada digitalmente

From my point of view, these are not good news. In the future, in our schools we're not going to switch back to use bind9 and will keep the current setup with pdns. Having all the infraestructure and information stored in ldap is very safe when you have several thousands of ltsp servers and don't want to manually modify configuration files whenever a new server is placed or moved. More things are in ldap, less things we have to touch. #602863 is not important for us. Our servers still remain in lenny and our plans to move to squeeze (or wheeze) include the development of a lwat replacement. We need to develop it to fit our needs as we have to create accounts massively every beginning of the course using as source an external application where our ministry manages all the educational data for every citizen. So, neither gosa, cipux or lwat can fulfill our needs, and a custom development is the only solution I can see. So, as we all use Debian and can touch everything, don't take this as a negative vote. We can do all the changes we need to adjust the installation to our setup. Currently we change some things, and in the future more changes will be needed, including removal of the debian-edu-config package. Fortunately, our release cycle for the school servers setup is more than two years, so we have time to adapt our setups. I know, but I meant that "migrated to testing" affected to the simple-cdd builds that I do using a testing repository. So, since then, the error raises in daily built images and in the isos I generate with simple-cdd. Anyway, looking at the parted changelog, I don't see anything related to this bug, so maybe the guilty is somewhere else. In fact, the bug apperared in the simple cdd generated images three or four days after parted migrated (I'm using ftp.us.debian.org repository to create the images, not my own mirror). Regards. Bug#558686: This bug now happens always
Since about ten days, I can reproduce always this bug using daily builds of squeeze images. Using virtualbox, the bug raises everytime the partitioning scheme is changed. Using only ext3, without lvm or raid. After raising the bug, next time I use the installer, if I choose the same partition scheme (all the directories in a partition, as an example), the bug doesn't happen, but changing to any other scheme it raises once again. I've also been using simple-cdd to do squeeze images, and the bug begun to appear since last tuesday. So there must be some package migrated to testing about those days that make it. Hope this info helps. Regards. signature.asc Description: Esta parte del mensaje está firmada digitalmente

Hello Nigel, sorry for the delay, but I've prefered to do more checks with a colleague before answering. I'm attaching you a list of a very simple site.pp used, and the log outputs when using (and not using) the --debug option in the command line. For more fun, the bug doesn't appear everytime you executed puppetd, it only happens randomly, and it happens much more often if the debug option is not used. The source is not available in the Debian sources, so it's still a serious violation of the DFSG. You must include all the sources, not sources mixed with binaries and trust that you can find the rest of the sources in the net. So this is still a RC bug. It gives the user an answer after each input, making impossible to have a false answer. signature.asc Description: Esta parte del mensaje está firmada digitalmente
Bug#538241: simple-cdd can not build multiple media installers
Package: simple-cdd Version: 0.3.11 Severity: wishlist When trying to build a Debian installer that has to fit in a cd media, simple-cdd is limited to use no more than 700 mb of packages, as it's not able to build a multiple media installer. It would be really useful to be able to build it (to make a base installation + a cd with games o a cd with educative packages, etc.) Debian installer can do it, so simple-cdd should be able to do it too ;) Regards José L. signature.asc Description: Esta parte del mensaje está firmada digitalmente
Bug#402841: any progress with gwt?
Hi Christian, Have you continued working on packaging gwt or just gave up? Version 1.7.0 has just been released, and maybe it's time to set up an alioth project in order to try to package this nice monster. It's a very powerful tool, theorically free, and it's a real pity to have it out of Debian. Regards José L. signature.asc Description: Esta parte del mensaje está firmada digitalmente

Bug#487635: The perfomance degrading since lenny also affects to ltsp clients
I've tested it using both lenny and squeeze versions of libx11-6. Only downgrading to libx11-6 from etch allows some applications (as java apps) run in an usable way. Maybe this info can help: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxcb/+bug/277069 and http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17868 say that the problems appeared since libx11-6 was linked with xcb. This problem is very important for Debian Edu users. Up to now, the only workaround is downgrading to the etch library. Bug#509877: ldm: please add support for non-readers login
Package: ldm Version: 2:2.0.6-4 Severity: wishlist I'd like to use ltsp in primary schools for children that can not read and write yet. In the past I've used gdm with its "Face browser" feature, using also pam to allow some "faces" login without password. Migrating to ltsp makes me need some similar feature with ldm, otherwise small children will not be able to use the computers as youngest kids can not read or they're still learning to read or write. You can see an example of my previous gdm login at http://www.educarex.es/linexcolegios/ . I know kdm can also manage faces, so it's not a weird option. It would be great adding such feature to ldm, or at least, some icon to be able to login without typing a login user (for the password it can be avoided using pam). Bug#504471: mondo: add a cdrecord dependency or recommendation
Package: mondo Version: 1:2.2.7-1 Severity: important Using latest mondo package from Debian sid, I found that mondoarchive just does not start if cdrecord package is not installed. I think that's a stupid behaviour as you can use mondo to save images in the hard disk, but that's the way it behaves. So, please, add cdrecord to its dependencies, or at least as a recommendation. (i.e. that text file is the file actually used > for modifications?) > Yes, these are the needed steps: - Open a Squeak standard image (as an example you can use the etoys package in non-free, that image is olpc'ed (thought to teach and learn) so it's not very confortable to use it to program but you might use it. - Install inside this image, using the Squeak Package loader the package VMmaker. - Start VMMaker and config it telling the path to the sources you want to modify, for example the sources from the Debian package - Modify the sources inside Squeak to do any change - Use VMMaker to regenerate the sources. If you don't use vmmaker you can do it manually, but it's harder due to the size of the sources, and the need of manually modifying some of the code depending on the plugins you're going to compile. Smalltalkers use the Squeak Image to modify the code, usually the plugins [1]. Ian Piumarta, the main author of the unix virtual image port, does it manually using a standard text editor for part of the code, excepting the plugins. He uses to program them inside the image, as it's easier to debug them in real time. A latest note: when modifying the code inside the image instead of using a standard text editor, the code is modified in "Slang" (C with Smalltalk syntax), that's how smalltalkers do it to use the same Smalltalk class browser. It does not matter if you use a plain text editor or Squeak to modify the code: at the end of the process VMmaker makes the translation to plain C. Obviously VMmaker is free and its sources (in Smalltalk) are available inside the same Squeak image. Regards. José L. [1] In Squeak plugins are functions that're executed by the virtual machine instead of by the image. That's usually done by perfomance reasons as all the code inside the image is in Smalltalk, and some actions very OS related are faster in C (i.e. accesing the filesystem, keyboard or the sound card) signature.asc Description: Esta parte del mensaje está firmada digitalmente

"This" is the source file. Squeak people uses a Squeak image to store the virtual machine sources, as any other people can use svn o cvs. That message only means that the text file has been generated that way, but that file is the only and real source file to be compiled. > Also, > debian/copyright doesn't contain any hint how this file is generated. Bug#481210: Replace the use of the almost deprecated unionfs by aufs
Package: ltsp Version: 5.1.5-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch When using nbd instead of nfs, ltsp uses unionfs. Unionfs is being replaced by aufs in similar systems like live cds. It's better maintained upstream, more reliable[1] and less buggy, so even unionfs-modules Debian maintainer recommends its replacement[2]. I've tried it, and it works perfectly. Attached is the usual patch to change this behaviour. By the way, doing the patch I've checked that the files: client/initramfs/hooks/ltsp_client client/initramfs/init-bottom/unionfs_cow are not used in the packaging of ltsp, and totally useless ;-) Best regards. Bug#478875: local apps in ltsp 5
Package: ldm Version: 2.0.3-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch I attach you the files I've prepared to be able to use local apps in ltsp 5. I needed this feature for the schools of Extremadura. Maybe, you can add this info to the examples section of ldm. Steps to make it work (all of them inside the ltsp chroot): - Install sshfs package (from sid, as it has #430225 fixed) - useradd ltsp -d /var/tmp/ltsp -g fuse -u 65533 -G audio - cp *20-local-app /usr/share/ldm/rc.d/ - cp localapp /usr/bin/ - chmod +x /usr/bin/localapp To launch a local app (obviously, supposing you've already installed the application in the ltsp chroot) you have these options: a) In the ltsp server, at the logged user home, create a simple file called local.exec with a line with the command to be executed locally (between "" if the command has options). The file will be removed after the local app is launched, so you can start several of them. b) In the ltsp client, after the user has logged in, go to a tty, login as root and execute: localapp "application" c) A wrapper replacing the way the desktop file at the ltsp-server, that create the local.exec file for option a). I have not implemented this yet. Hope this helps Regards. José L. Bug#478662: dhcp3: Missing slapd dependency in init.d LSB header
So, Petter, you're supposing that the ldap server and the dhcpd server are in the same machine. But that does not need to be the case so, what will happen after adding slapd to the "Should-Start" section, if slapd is not installed in the same machine? Regards. Bug#474172: upgrading gambas2 is impossible due to missing dependencies
Hi, this is not a gambas2 bug, but a kdelibs bug. Debian autobuilders are not able to install kdelibs4-dev in i386, so gambas2 arch dependant packages can not be built. As soon as kdelibs4-dev is instalable again, this will be automatically fixed. The kde bug is #472510 . Bug#469338: unionfs-modules does not work with 2.6.24-1
Package: unionfs-modules-2.6-amd64 Version: 2:2.6.24-4 Severity: grave Hi, Tested with amd64, 486 & 686 kernel versions. Whenever I try to use unionfs module I always get the "unionfs: Unknown symbol release_open_intent" message, so the package is useless on any arch. It only happens with current 2.6.24 on sid, with 2.6.22 on lenny it works without any problem. Regards. José L. signature.asc Description: Esta parte del mensaje está firmada digitalmente

Removing the lzma patch from 3.2r2-9exp1 made it work, but not with 3.3. I've also compiled the clean upstream 3.3 version without Debian patches and it also fails. It's pretty reasonable, but it might also be some config that should be changed in ltsp-update-image to make it work. Obviously mksquashfs and unsquashfs work perfectly on the ltsp-server, so I don't know how to report this bug in the squashfs-tool package as it seems only a problem when using squashfs-tools with ltsp. > > > I can make more tests if some ideas, options or workarounds are > > possible. > > you probably have much more experience with this mode of operation than > i do... > Maybe with the operation I have more experience but I do not have a good knowledge of how the image is uncompressed and mounted from the initrd when the ltsp terminal starts. And that option would be very studied inside Debian Edu community before deciding to go on it. And, in case we do it, first condition would be to always stay in syncr with dhcp3, what would make debian security team life not so hard. Anyway, first option is getting that into upstream, but upstream says they don't want to use it as he doesn't want to make the server non-rfc-compliant[1] and it's not in his roadmap[2]. Second option is including it into current dhcp3 package patches, but that does not depend on me. We're looking forward for some answer from current maintainers. Cheers. José L. Bug#215968: patch for version 3.1.0
I've upgraded the patch to work on current sid/lenny dhcp3 version (3.1.0). It's available at http://linex.educarex.es/dhcpd-ldap/dhcp-3.1.0-ldap.patch There are two options of using it: - patching always Debian dhcp3 sources, so dhcp3-server is always able to use ldap as backend - creating a new package called dhcp3-server-ldap In any case, I think dhcp3 maintainers have to take the decission. If they don't want to maintain a dhcp3-server-ldap package but think it would be the best solution I could manage to maintain it inside Debian Edu. This patch is beginning to be a real need for many projects, and in Debian Edu CDD we see it as the only solution to manage thousands of computers using dhcp. As we want to use only packages inside Debian we need an answer to implement it in the future Lenny based version. Bug#454635: ITP: squeak-vm -- Virtual machine needed to run Squeak images on unix

There have been some hundred of code contributors[1] and most of them have already signed to relicense it. There is still some parts of the code whose authors haven't answer to that requirement [2] and parts of the code is going to be rewritten or removed from Squeak. So Squeak as a whole can not be uploaded to Debian yet. But all the virtual machine code is already under MIT [3] and available under svn [4]. That's why I plan to upload only squeak-vm and not any Squeak image to Debian. With the squeak-vm any Squeak image can be run: the official one that's not DFSG compatible yet, but also some others images that are totally free now [5] Anyway I'm optimistic and I think that the whole Squeak image will be available under MIT quite soon, as all the reimaining code and licenses issues are being studied and fixed by the community and the Software Freedom Law Center. I know the whole Squeak paradigm it's a little hard to understand to those that are not familiar with its use (the concept of program itself is not the same as with "normal" languages, same for the image or the vm), but I hope it's clearer now. You use the ispell example and I can use the openoffice.org-l10n-2.2 virtual package that works exactly as we say wims-extra should work: providing a functionality to a metapackage. Bug#434651: debian-policy: New virtual package: wims-extra
Package: debian-policy Priority: wishlist Hi all, Wims is a recent Debian package which will be more widely used in the near future as a part of Debian-Edu (currently it is a dependency on its metapackage education-services) and it's being use in Linex (Extremadura region official debian based distribution) schools. Its installation can be done by requiring the package wims, which depends from the package wims-modules. When installed, they feature a webserver for educational exercises of outstanding quality, localised in many languages. However most of the "meat" is provided by the packages wims-extra-xx, which contain hundreds of educational modules (this number hopefully will grow quickly). In July 2007, the installed size of wims-extra-all is roughly 200 MBytes. Some webmasters might want to install less rich sets of modules, for example only the modules localised in their language, or a set of modules targeted to a particular domain of study. There is already a package wims-extra-es with Spanish-only modules, and some other packages might be made available in the near future, like a French-only collection, or a collection dedicated to physics and chemistry, etc. The current wims maintainer (who is in the cc'ed list for this mail) asked me to sponsor this package, and, after some conversations with him, we both agree that wims package should have a recommends to a virtual package called "wims-extra", so people may provide packages for the "meat" with their particular flavor, while the package wims-extra-all providing wims-extra would be part of the official distribution. Currently wims-extra is a real package, which is part of Debian Stable (version 3.60-1), so the situation would be the following after an acceptation of its name for a virtual package: - newer versions of wims and wims-modules (3.62) would enter Unstable and their dependencies would entail the replacement of any older version of wims-extra. - the new version of wims-extra (3.62) would be a virtual package. - wims-extra-all (version 3.62) would enter Unstable and provide wims-extra. - wims-extra-es (already part of the distro Linex) would provide wims-extra. So, I propose to add this entry to the virtual package list: wims-extra - extra exercises, translations and modules that enhance wims functionalities. I will remove it. As you said my intention is not to use it with the official Debian installer, but with the one we customize at LinEx (www.gnulinex.org). I didn't know about http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2007/07/msg00324.html, so I'll upload a new version without it a.s.a.p.
