Which mod-mono or xsp version and mono version are you using exactly?
This should do it for me:
dpkg -l|egrep "(mod-mono|xsp|mono-jit)"

Actually, I would suggest someone fixed ssmtp to accept these settings
in a configuration file. If it is supposed to be a sendmail
replacement, it should work with the same options as sendmail does.

i'm pretty sure i've never intentionally booted d-i in expert mode, and when i
did a sarge install i'm pretty sure i managed to skip creating a normal user
account (i think it prompted me for one and i selected some kind of cancel

also is there any way to switch to expert mode mid install and if not why?

Bug#327541: [Kenny Hitt] Re: Is Debian appropriate for accessibility?

2006-12-20 Thread juan rafael fernández

2006/12/19, Mario Lang <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

Mbrolas license is very restrictive, which I consider a problem, no matter
if it is non-free distributable or not.

The problem is, are there other intelligible free non-English voices
available at the moment? If not, them end-users need the somehow free
mbrola voices (which has nothing to do with Debian packaging them, a
pointer to the urls in Reame.Debian could do the thing).

This is my list for the languages I surveyed:

* English: kal_diphone, ked_diphone, rab_diphone (festival);  en1,
en1mrpa, us1, us1mrpa, us2 (mbrola; for some of them there are
festival wrappers); festvox_cmu_us_slt_arctic_hts,
festvox_cmu_us_awb_arctic_hts, festvox_cmu_us_jmk_arctic_hts,
festvox_cmu_us_bdl_arctic_hts (new versions of festival, different
format) + espeak

* Italian: lp_diphone, pc_diphone (festival) + espeak

* Spanish: el_diphone (festival); es1, es2,  es4, mx1, mx2 (mbrola) + espeak

* French: fr3, fr4, fr5, fr7, ca1, ca2 (mbrola)

* German: de6 (mbrola) + espeak

Espeak doesn't use "voices", does it?

Is this complete? I know work is being done in at least Spanish and
Catalan free voices.

I suppose that all the mentioned voices can (or should be able to) be
used from speech-dispatcher. Am I right?

Ah yes, you are refering to http://bugs.debian.org/327541

Yes and no. The bug mentions 1.95, I mentioned 1.96beta. They are
different. I couldn't compile 1.95 (remember: I'm an end-user), but
for 1.96beta configure and make were enough.

I've recently read pyorbit is avaiable through experimental, maybe that
was not true when you tried to get orca working?

Sorry I don't know, I don't keep an eye on experimental. I use
Testing, which I consider daring enough for a production machine. My
compilations go to .../local, so I know what is the system and what is
not.

If you have any trouble with gnome-speech, I would have liked to know
about it.

I still don't know why test-speech wasn't included.

Does java-access-bridge build with free java tools these days? (gcj?)

I have relaxed on using the soon to be free Sun java. The question
doesn't worry me any more (but remember I am an end-user).

> I also made up my mind to uninstall esound and uncheck arts (I use
> both gnome and kde for my tests) and I still have problems with

> not me).

A good spot! All remaining OSS-only speech producing software
needs to be patched to support alsa natively. Or, alternatively, we should
try to push speech-dispatcher, which solves the issue on a different level.

debian-accessibility is the list to use in such cases.

So let's use the list.

If I use festival's server by itself

$ echo "hola amigos" | festival --tts --language spanish --pipe

works OK. But then if I install speech-dispatcher later I get

Linux: can't open /dev/dsp

Obviously the good-ol' audio blocking. Now I kill both festival and
speech-dispatcher and restart the latter. OK again.

It cost me many tests and changes in the configuration to find this
out. Don't install a festival server if you are going to use
speech-dispatcher! Could it be included somewhere in the documentation
to save someone from repeating my mistakes?

Bug#403941: Wine crashes when run from make

2006-12-20 Thread Manoj Srivastava
reassign 403941 wine
thanks

Hi,

Lots of things changed between 3.80, released circa 2002, and
3.81, released in 2006. There are over 1800 lines in the Changelog in
that period. Trying to determine what changed and having it shed a
light on this issue is like hunting for needles in haystacks without
really knowing what a needle looks like -- wine needs to tell us why
 it is failing.

If there is indeed some idea of what has changed, and whether
that change is indeed a bug in make, please reassign back. Until
then, I am reassigning this to the package that is segfaulting.

Bug#403952: rlwrap: empty package on several architectures [sudo and $(PWD)]

2006-12-20 Thread Niko Tyni
Package: rlwrap
Version: 0.24-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
Tags: patch

Hi,

as seen on packages.debian.org [1], the rlwrap package version 0.28-1
only contains /usr/share/doc on alpha, mips and mipsel. These are the
buildds that use sudo instead of fakeroot, and the problem is installing
into $(PWD), which gets unset by sudo.

The fix is to replace $(PWD) with $(CURDIR), which is set by make.

The issue is only dormant in etch (0.24-1), since the packages were
built before the sudo environment cleaning change in early 2006. Still,
by my reading of the etch RC policy ('Packages must be buildable within
the same release'), I assume this is RC for etch too.

We are loosing soap configuration. Mysql without root pass, dpatch
usage, not much else.

Dpatch usage is not really problematic. The two others might be... can you
add support for them without completely reworking Stefen's package ?

IMHO supporting MySQL without root password turned out to be to
complicated and as source of errors, especially as Jean and I agreed
upon moving to dbconfig-common post-etch.

I suggest sending a patch to Stefen for review, and if he finds the patch
OK, either he applies it or he let you apply it directly.

I don't necessarily need a patch on the soap configuration, just a pointer
to the places where I find it in Jean latest package.

Do you allow me or any other people caring about i18n to do the job for
you, either by NMUing the package or by providing full patches? Or
should we just stay away from that package?

Bug#403954: f-spot: does not upload to flickr rotated version of pictures

2006-12-20 Thread Filippo Giunchedi
Package: f-spot
Version: 0.3.0-1
Severity: normal

Hi,
steps to reproduce:

- rotate a photo
- upload to flickr

it is my understanding that the unrotated version gets uploaded to
flickr, unless there is some trickery behind.
I didn't tested with picasa for example

thanks for your work,
filippo

Bug#403953: emacs21-common: smtpmail silently drops mails if they /usr/bin/sendmail rejects them

2006-12-20 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: emacs21-common
Version: 21.4a-1
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss
Tags: sarge, etch

At least M-x vm for GNU Emacs 21 (from the vm package, versions 7.19-4
in Sarge, 7.19-11 in Etch) and M-x mail from GNU Emacs 21 do not
report anything if mails which should be sent out are rejected by
/usr/sbin/sendmail, e.g. because of their size, even on a virgin
account. The user does not have any clue, that the mail didn't go out
and wonders why nobody has received the mail.

Both use the underlying smtpmail library, and if mail is sent out
using smtpmail's SMTP engine, it reports error, but if it's sendmail
engine is used, it reports none.

This bug is more or less identical to
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=403930 which also
concerns smtpmail, but the version included in xemacs21-basesupport
for XEmacs 21.

Example / How to reproduce:

Start emacs under a virgin user account. Type M-x vm. Type m in the
newly popped up window. Set recipient and subject in the again newly
popped up window. Type C-c C-a attach one or more files so that in
their sum they are bigger than the local MTA is configured to accept.

In our case the limit of the local postfix is (IIRC by default) set to
10 MB and we attached an appropriately big tar.gz.

Type C-c C-c to send the mail out. The window closes and postfix from
Sarge writes to its log file:

Dec 20 17:28:49 malfoy postfix/postdrop[30418]: warning: uid=4977: File too
large
Dec 20 17:28:49 malfoy postfix/sendmail[30417]: fatal: xtaran(4977): Message
file too big

Postfix from Etch writes instead:

Dec 20 17:53:42 ankara postfix/postdrop[31933]: warning: uid=4977: Illegal seek
Dec 20 17:53:42 ankara postfix/sendmail[31932]: fatal: xtaran(4977): queue file
write error

The user who sent the mail did not get any notice about that and
therefore doesn't know he just lost that mail.

It's even worse on Etch: There vm claims to have sent out the mail by
naming a buffer "sent mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]" (or whereever you
planned to send that mail). On the other hand, this means that you
have less serious data loss on Etch. :-)

Same with M-x mail and big mails. You even don't get any hint in the
*Messages* buffer.

To check that postfix did not only log the message to the error log, I
tried to send out a similar mail using /usr/sbin/sendmail directly (on
Sarge):

$ /usr/sbin/sendmail [EMAIL PROTECTED] < 20-MB-Test-Mail.txt
postdrop: warning: uid=4977: File too large
sendmail: fatal: xtaran(4977): Message file too big
$ echo $?
69
$

On Etch /usr/sbin/sendmail returns with exit code 75.

I have looked through the vm variables and functions but haven't found
any which configures how to care about sendmail's return values or
messages (as e.g. mutt does).

A workaround is to use SMTP instead of /usr/sbin/sendmail. Then you
get at least an "SMTP protocol error", although you still get no hint,
what exactly went wrong. For using this workaround, add

(custom-set-variables
 '(send-mail-function (quote smtpmail-send-it))
; change this to your favourite server -- only needed if $SMTPSERVER is not
set.
 '(smtpmail-smtp-server "mail.example.com"))
(custom-set-faces)

to the end of your ~/.emacs file.

Bug#403846: infos about losetup

2006-12-20 Thread DEMAINE Benoit-Pierre
The system have been set up by building first the raid.1=sda+sdg, then
partitioning md0; the advantage is that in case of big failure, it is
possible to mount RO only one disk; if mounting RW, sync will be
required. The advantage over standard raid+lvm is that partitions can be
readed without bothering LVM, using any simple bootable system.

It requires to use offset for mkfs and mount stages: all commands take
as argument the same device file: md0, but with various values for offset.

Thus, my strange fstab and kernel options:

kernel option:
/boot/vmlinuz-2 ro initrd= /boot/initrd.img-2 root=/dev/md0
rootflags=offset=2564014080

fstab:
proc /proc procdefaults 0 0
/dev/md0 / ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro,loop,offset=2564014080 0 0
/dev/md0 /boot ext2defaults,loop,offset=1000960 0 0

/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
/dev/md0 /mnt/extrd ext3defaults,loop,offset=6564020224 0 0

So, below, you will find the log when system tries to boot with the
default initrd: it fails.

To get my system bootable, I "just" need to add to /etc/initramfs-tools/
the following files:

./scripts/dhp/libc-2.3.6.so
./scripts/dhp/libc.so.6.1
./scripts/dhp/losetup
./scripts/local-top/z.sh

and rebuild the RD with:
$ update-initramfs -u -t -k 2.6.18-3-alpha-smp

Libs and losetup are taken from "live system".

The main part of ./scripts/local-top/z.sh is:
/scripts/dhp/losetup -o 2564014080 /dev/loop6 /dev/md0
mount -o ro /dev/loop6 /root

If I just call
losetup -o 2564014080 /dev/loop6 /dev/md0
mount -o ro /dev/loop6 /root
then it fails (and this is why I know losetup in RD is broken).

(Yes I spent days rebuilding dozens or RD, and rebooting each of them;
and rebooting an AS4100 takes *ages* !!!)

With my update, / get mounted, and boot process does find the init
program and can start the main system. My system is now patched to work;
problem is that Debian distributes incompleet softwares:
http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO/BootPrompt-HOWTO.html#s3 clearly
states that `rootflags=' is a legitimate argument for the kernel; so, I
do consider that any argument that is valid for a pure kernel should
also be valid for an initrd. In short, the concept of a fix is simple:
read the rootflags value in the command line (available under
/proc/cmdline quiet early while processing initrd scripts), and pass it
to the mount command. Then, make sure that all tools are available in
the ramdisk to support all options passable to mount, or at least the
ones the kernel should normally understand.

Bug#358029: How to correct the bug

2006-12-20 Thread Jiri Pejchal

Accessing lylipond info node from emacs fails. It is because the
lilypond info files
are in a subdirectory. I believe that the solution to this problem is
to replace a line in the dir file:

* Lilypond: (lilypond). LilyPond, the GNU Project music

with:

* Lilypond: (lilypond/lilypond).LilyPond, the GNU Project music

Than it works in emacs and in standalone info reader too.

The xsl-mode isn't enabled by default and isn't problematic in my

Bug#402961: hylafax-server: does not depend on gawk

2006-12-20 Thread Giuseppe Sacco
Hi Matthias,
could you tell me if the problem you found was shown during an upgrade?
I think you installed and configured a previous version of hylafax while
gawk was installed. Then you removed gawk, and later on, you upgraded
hylafax.

The new hylafax package tried to run faxsetup in order to update its
configuration but stopped because of gawk missing.

Please check your configuration file /etc/hylafax/setup.cache as I
already wrote in this bug report. Then let me know if this work.

Bye,
Giuseppe

Bug#403930: More details on this issue

2006-12-20 Thread Axel Beckert
retitle 403930 xemacs21-basesupport: smtpmail silently drops mails if
/usr/bin/sendmail rejects them
thanks

While trying to find a workaround for this problem I discovered some
more details:

Not vm but smtpmail.el(c) seems to be the core of the problem since
you get a (though not very meaningful) error message if you switch
smtpmail over to use SMTP instead of the default
/usr/sbin/sendmail. But at least you get an error message and the mail
stays unsent in its buffer.

The same also happens with M-x mail if the mail gets too big.

The same bug can also be found in smtpmail for GNU Emacs 21 from the
emacs21-common package, see http://bugs.debian.org/403953 for details.

A workaround is to use SMTP instead of /usr/sbin/sendmail. Then you
get at least an "SMTP protocol error", although you still get no hint,
what exactly went wrong. For using this workaround, add

(custom-set-variables
 '(send-mail-function (quote smtpmail-send-it))
; change this to your favourite server -- only needed if $SMTPSERVER is not
set.
 '(smtpmail-smtp-server "mail.example.com"))
(custom-set-faces)

to the end of your ~/.xemacs/custom.el file.

Kind regards, Axel Beckert

sympa-5.2.3/mail_tt2/Makefile :
rm -f $(DESTDIR)$(ETCBINDIR)/web_tt2/authorization_reject.tt2 ;
ln -s $(DESTDIR)$(ETCBINDIR)/mail_tt2/authorization_reject.tt2
$(DESTDIR)$(ETCBINDIR)/web_tt2

DESTDIR when native insallation will be somewhat like /usr/local/sympa
ETCBINDIR will be somewhat like share.
Relative symlinks might be better but I don't think we can say it a bug.

But for debian packaging, install something like

/usr/share/sympa/web_tt2/authorization_reject.tt2 ->
/tmp/buildd/sympa-5.2.3/debian/sympa/usr/share/sympa/mail_tt2/authorization_reject.tt2

is definitly a bug.

Bug#403959: debootstrap: suite choices appear to be inaccurate and incomplete

2006-12-20 Thread Ross Boylan
Package: debootstrap
Version: 0.3.3.1
Severity: normal

If I have not misunderstood how the package operates, this might be
something worth fixing before etch release.

It appears the legal values for "suite" are determined by the entries
in /usr/lib/debootstrap/scripts/. I notice several things; the first
is the most important:

1) etch is a symlink to sid. The correct value now would be testing,
and on release it will be stable, or not a symlink at all.

2) there is no entry for testing. I think this means one can't easily
make a testing chroot, and also that I don't get the benefit of the
local files I have cached for testing.

3) Some of the entries are for versions that are quite old, or that I
just don't recognize.

Desired state:
1) etch gets the correct stuff.
2) a testing script exists.
3) perhaps clean some of the old stuff, if you think it wise.

Thanks.

In ELinks 0.12.GIT configured with --enable-utf-8,
 appears to render correctly.
In ELinks 0.12.0, --enable-utf-8 will probably be the default.

ELinks 0.12.GIT has code for converting bytes to Unicode characters,
and for counting the character cells that a character spans in a
terminal. (However, it does not support combining characters,
and no such feature is planned for 0.12.0.)

Yes, you probably did that: be prompted, hit ESC and then get the
option to skip the "normal user" test.

Which you can also do in the etch install, IIRC.

You should stay away, really.

In addition to being non-free, there are two additional reasons why I
think this should not be done, as it would be a complete waste of time:

a) It is likely that pine will eventually be replaced by alpine
(once alpine is mature enough).

b) There should be a mta-base package on which packages like this
may depend, so that we do not duplicate the same debconf questions
about /etc/mailname and /etc/news/server over and over again
in every package managing those files.

Relative symlinks might be better but I don't think we can say it a bug.

The installation in $(DESTDIR) should be self-contained, therefore I consider
that a bug of Sympa.

btw why do you ask for installation reports even on sucessfull installations?

This file is useless as the debian/po/es.po file is enough and complete. I

I guess the RMs already know about it...? It's not really the first time a
package has been late in building for some reason, and the BTS isn't really
needed to track such skews. Cc-ing -release; I'm sure they can help you if
you have further issues.

What functionality is referred to by "Bad IP Allow/Deny checking"? It is a
black list protection against potentially malicious clients or brute
force attacks?

Bug#403962: flashplugin-nonfree: no sound with ES1370

2006-12-20 Thread Arnaud Giersch
Package: flashplugin-nonfree
Version: 9.0.21.78.4
Severity: normal

Hello,

I do not have any sound with Flash plugin 9. I tested several
browsers: Firefox, Iceape and Opera. As it works fine on another
machine, I suspect that the problem is related to the sound card.
Lspci reports it to be an Ensoniq ES1370 [AudioPCI]. IIRC, it is a
Sound Blaster 64 PCI. The Alsa driver is snd_ens1370.

Other applications work just fine: aplay, Flash plugin 7, ogg123, ...

I also noticed that, if I put the following line in my ~/.asoundrc:

  defaults.pcm.dmix_format FOOBAR

Flash plugin 9 works, but an error message is printed on the terminal:

ALSA lib pcm.c:6620:(snd_pcm_slave_conf) unknown format FOOBAR

This bogus setting however breaks the other (previously working)
programs. For example, aplay complains that:

ALSA lib pcm.c:6620:(snd_pcm_slave_conf) unknown format FOOBAR
aplay: main:550: audio open error: Invalid argument

ogg123 fails with a similar error message. That is why I think that
it is Flash plugin 9 which is faulty.

Regards,

Arnaud Giersch

I've just built fuse-2.6.1 from the tarball on sf.net and
everything worked with that.

I tried encfs and sshfs invocations that failed last time,
both with the .so built in that source and also using the
older .so in debian (2.5.3), all were fine.

Thanks for your help,

You mean "convert html table to spreadsheet"?

That would be *EXTREMELY* useful!

Is "common sense" really valid?
For example, it is "common sense" to white-power racists that
whites are superior to blacks, and that those with brown skins
are mud people.
However, that "common sense" is obviously wrong.

Bug#403890: installation successfull with some manual work

2006-12-20 Thread Frans Pop
On Wednesday 20 December 2006 23:13, peter green wrote:
> btw why do you ask for installation reports even on sucessfull

Because receiving only failures gets boring ;-)

Well, seriously, because it gives us a better idea how well the installer
is being used/tested over various architectures and successes help us
determine if we are ready for release.

Also, even if installs are successful people often have usability comments
or suggestions which are valuable for us. Even if we cannot reply to
every report, we do read almost all of them. Comments that are repeated
by different people tend to stick and eventually get worked on.

Cheers,

That does'nt change so much for the pure sympa configuration...
but for the /etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf you should have to modify
these lines...

destination df_sympa { file("/var/log/sympa.log"); };

filter f_local1 { facility(local1); };

# local1.* /var/log/sympa.log
log {
source(s_all);
filter(f_local1);
destination(df_sympa);
};

JY, who use a manual install of sympa on his "sarge"... because version
5.2 is very much an improvement towards 4.1 version. (unicode support
was one of my problem if I remember correctly). Thanks for Jean-Charles
to provide patchs, perhaps on the long run it will pay. As always, you
have to make evidence that you know what to do... but I think you are on
the good way to convince Stefan that you can help him on the maintenance
of this package.

Also please set the charset for the file, or let me know which should

Thanks very much for reporting that. Do you happen to know what
program generated that .tgz file?

Anyway, this is clearly a regression in gzip, regardless of whether
the stream has a valid format, so I installed the following patch into
gzip. I am CC'ing this to the Debian bug address and to Thomas Biege.

2006-12-20 Paul Eggert <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* inflate.c (huft_build): Fix regression that caused gzip to
refuse to uncompress null input (all zero length codes). Problem
reported by Yiorgos Adamopoulos. This regression was caused by
the security patch installed 2006-11-20, which in turn came from
Debian, which in turn apparently came from Thomas Biege of SuSe.

 Description:
Meant to be used in macro code, once-only guards against

-Notes:

-The description here is frustratingly non-descriptive, and I
-apologize for that. If you understand once-only and can give a
-better explanation, I would be very grateful—not to mention
-completely awed.
+multiple evaluation of its arguments in macroexpansion code.
+
+once-only generates a Lisp form that evaluates each lexical
+variable named by the symbols given as name arguments to
+once-only, and evaluates the body forms in a lexical environment where
+these results are bound to their respective originating symbol.
+
+That is, if the only name argument were the single 'alpha
+symbol, the body forms would be evaluated in a lexical environment
+where 'alpha is bound to the result of the evaluation of alpha in the
+lexical environment of the generated Lisp form.
+
+Example:
+
+With the following 3x macro:
+
+(defmacro 3x (x)
+ `(+ ,x ,x ,x))
+
+These three forms evaluate to the same result because the form
+given as x argument is referencially transparent (i.e. it
+yields the same result each time it's evaluated):
+
+(3x 2) === 6
+(3x (1+ 1)) === 6
+(let ((a 1)) (3x (1+ a))) === 6
+
+But the following form has an argument that has side-effects and has
different results for each of the three
+times it will be evaluated:
+
+(let ((a 1)) (3x (incf a))) === 9
+
+The problem is solved by protecting the body of the macro with
+once-only:
+
+(defmacro 3x (x)
+ (once-only (x)
+`(+ ,x ,x ,x)))
+
+(let ((a 1)) (3x (incf a))) === 6

 Manual Index

It applies to 1.2.4-1.

Bug#403972: cpio: error in info page or cpio itself

2006-12-20 Thread Edward Shornock
Package: cpio
Version: 2.6-17
Severity: normal

In the info page, we have the following switches defined for the various
modes:

`-i, --extract'
 Run in copy-in mode

`-o, --create'
 Run in copy-out mode.

`-p, --pass-through'
 Run in copy-pass mode.

While I think copy-in and copy-out are the opposite of what I think they
logically should be, the problem is with the --sparse option and it's
description. Either the info page is wrong or `cpio` is 'slighly
broken'.

The info page states:

`--sparse'
Write files with large blocks of zeros as sparse files. This
option is used in copy-in and copy-pass modes.

...but in practice that's not the case..

darkside:/bin# ls |cpio -o > /tmp/cpioarchive
7976 blocks
darkside:/bin# cpio -i --sparse < /tmp/cpioarchive
cpio: --sparse is meaningless with --extract

...and contrary to what the info page states, --sparse is accepted in copy-out
mode:

darkside:/bin# ls |cpio -o --sparse > /tmp/cpioarchive
7976 blocks

Bug#403975: Upgrade report

2006-12-20 Thread Robert de Bath

Package: x11-common
Version: 1:7.1.0-8

Upgrade report from sarge.

Packages removed for x11-common to be able to install:
  ucbmpeg-play qvwm opera-static

The existing xorg.conf was very complex; it caused the Xserver to
segfault. I have attached it but am not currently using it; I will
probably be re-adding may of the changes if I find a specific problem I
will add it here.

I regenerated a new xorg.conf accepting the defaults (except for the
display name and acceptable video modes).

The machine this is on is a Toshiba Portage R100.

Value in XkbLayout of generated xorg.conf file was "uk" the correct value
is "gb". With "uk" the keyboard was in "us" layout and the Ctrl-Alt Fkeys
did not work.

The default layout also used the "synaptics" driver for the 'touch-pad'
mouse, I understand the device is an 'ALPS Glidepad'. This is sufficiently
different from a synaptics for the default setup of the synaptics driver
to be unusable and the documentation is not sufficient to correct this
without a LOT of guesswork. I have disabled the synaptics driver and am

using the default ps/2 setup.

The known bugs in the xv extension and the DPMS are still present.

They are in p7zip-full. Why do you think references should be added to
gzip(1) or others?

I've tried playground with xmms, but it just doesn't work.

I won't be able to work on these packages in the following days, so, I'm
orphaning them.

Bug#403208: configuration file for defaults

Hi,

I'm forwarding your request with this mail (and therefor quoting it in
full ;-) ) to Swaks' upstream author. John: Please give us your point
of view on Martin's request - it does not seem _too_ hard, and it can
be very useful to avoid hand-specifying over and over the most common
settings for your specific setup.

I found this in /etc/init.d/kdm :
KDMRC=/etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc

KDMOVERRIDEDIR=/etc/default/kdm.d
KDMCFGDIR=/var/run/kdm
KDMCFG=$KDMCFGDIR/kdmrc
BACKGROUNDCFG=$KDMCFGDIR/backgroundrc

This means the configuration files must be placed in /var/run/kdm (I
tried and it worked as I wanted), I think this is a very bad thing
according to
http://www.pathname.com/fhs/pub/fhs-2.3.html#VARRUNRUNTIMEVARIABLEDATA
(which is supposed to be a kind of standard)
Maybe there is a very good reason I ignore but else this seems grave !

Bug#403894: swaks: please consider --sendmail option

2006-12-20 Thread Gunnar Wolf
tags 403894 + wontfix
thanks

Hi,

I don't think this would fit in the program's goals - Remember that
Swaks is short for "Swiss Army Knife SMTP", and it's (from its package
description) "a command-line tool written in Perl for testing SMTP
setups" - It's not a tool for generically testing anything related to
a MTA, but it's targetted at the protocol.

If you must test how a local MTA is working, use the --pipe option -
From Swaks' man page:

   swaks --pipe "exim -bh 127.0.0.2"

This opens a SMTP conversation with the locally installed exim (you
could there use any other MTA binary, /usr/lib/sendmail or whatever).

Adding any other MTA interaction capability to Swaks would just mean
bloating it, IMHO. So, I'm tagging this bug as wontfix.

Of course, feel free to refute my point of view :)

Hi!

Please read the entire file as you quoted a bit from. It does the following:
Read the configuration files in
1)
/etc/kde3/kdm/
2)
builds a file in /var/run/something based of what it has read
in /etc/kde3/kdm/
3)
read the overrides in /etc/default/kdm.d and does some magic with the
autogenerated files in /var/run/something

There is no permanent configuration files stored in /var/run, as they are
regenerated on every kdm restart based on the mentioned 3 steps.

/Sune

You either cannot boot the serial application over a connection, or should
enable the Fast port, in such way from Windows XP and from the folder inside
Mac you have to cancel the terminale of the LCD provider and from Word NT you
must telnet to a graphic CD monitor over the BIOS forward to a utility for

The current release is in svn.debian.org, for those who would like to have

No, that's not the standard for data loss, and this does not qualify as a
grave bug on those grounds. No data is *lost* just because busybox gunzip
can't get to it.

Nor is the package "unusable or mostly so"; clearly the package is usable,
it's been stated in the bug log that this bug no longer impacts d-i, which
is using it.

You could argue that the package is "unfit for release" (=> sev: serious),
but then I don't see how that's consistent with asking for an etch-ignore
tag. If it's ignorable for etch, I don't see why it wouldn't also be
ignorable for lenny if it didn't get fixed in time.

Bug#403981: libconfig0: scan_integer() does not accept hexadecimal numbers containing hex digits A through F

2006-12-20 Thread Michael Deegan
Package: libconfig0
Version: 0.1.5
Severity: normal

While the example TEST.conf suggests that specifying integers in
hexadecimal works, it instead returns an 'Unexpected character' error if it
comes across a hex digit greater than 9. This causes libconfig to reject
many otherwise valid hexadecimal strings that strtol() happily accepts.

This was meant to have been filed as serious since it impacts support
for developing LSB applications.

Great! Thanks for following up.

As this report has now become a bit long and difficult to follow, I'm
closing it.

Could you file one new installation report for the issue that you need to
press enter 4 times to get the root floppy loaded so we can keep track of
that? I think that is now the only issue remaining.

Cheers,
FJP

The install completes on the SS5-70, but will not successfully boot after
install. It doesn't appear to load the esp module from the initfs, and cannot
locate the root filesystem.

So, the install process is fine on the SS20, but still does not install
properly on an SS5 system.

There were no errors that I saw during the installation process. Onboard
ethernet and SCSI were detected automatically during the install.

Its likely that it would be accepted by util-vserver upstream, if it is
submitted to them. They are looking for updates to this from people
knowledgeable about FAI.

Bug#403135: yelp: start up is way too slow

2006-12-20 Thread Michael Gilbert

i would say that time till window is up is approximately equal to
epiphany. however, actually being usable is slightly longer to parse
and display the help pages for the program.

yelp launched via nautilus in particular is rather slow.

Bug#403984: No default application when opening any file

2006-12-20 Thread Christian Surchi
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.14.3-6
Severity: important

Suddenly I can't open any file, from desktop or in a nautilus window.
I receive the warning message that it's impossible to open the file.
I see the type is correctly recognised (for example jpg image or zip
archive), but no default application defined.

In previous gnome session I could open a zip file, but no way to listen a
song in the archive without "suggesting" an application to open the file.

In this session no way to open any file.

Thanks,
Christian

Bug#403983: wireless-tools: Needs to up interface before setting options

Package: wireless-tools
Severity: normal

As described in http://lkml.org/lkml/2006/12/20/371 , various wireless

this.
