Re: [C/C EU 2024] Who is going to run the ASF table?

2024-04-21 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

Apologies for the slow response. Unfortunately these days my bandwidth is very
limited so am really happy to see others stepping up to help outthank you!
(that's how community works! :-)

So the main thing regarding the booth is getting the table setup with giveaways
and stickers, and also having someone physically in Bratislava that can take
delivery of whatever gets ordered, run the booth, and take responsibility for
tidying up afterwards. Also depending on if there is anything left over what to
do with it.

Sticker-wise - it's generally good to have stickers available for any project
that has a presentation on the schedule and we also take specific requests.

Money-wise ComDev did have some budget allocated for getting giveaways and
stickers etc for various events including CoC so will need to check that we
still have some funding available and that it is also OK to spend it.

I'll connect with Atita keep her in the loop and also check with the Comdev PMC
regarding budget and spending.

Thanks
Sharan

Hi [~rskraba] the bug in the reporter.a.o tool is affecting all projects not
only Avro. There is some sort of broken link for pulling in the mailing list
statistics  The Apache Kibble mailing list stats are correct so if we can link
the reporter tool to Kibble then hopefully that should correct the issue. I did
post on the Kibble list today a conversation I saw in the Kibble slack channel

Re: FOSDEM 2023

2023-01-11 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All
It looks like our stand is going to be on the ground floor this year.

https://fosdem.org/2023/stands/

As long as I can remember we have been up at the top of the stairs on the first
floor - so it will be a new experience. We have been asked to ensure that there
is someone at the booth at all times - from memory the tables generally have
enough space for two people comfortably (with chairs) and three if standing.

We have lots of stickers left over from ApacheCon so will be bringing those
along. I still need to do a bit of an inventory to see what swag we have that I
can bring.

We may have some funding left in the ComDev budget to order some stickers for
projects that haven't had any printed and are planning to be represented at
FOSDEM.
Please add your project name to the table at the bottom of the wiki page if
you'd like to have some stickers available. (At the moment I see only Pekko
would like some).

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/COMDEV/FOSDEM+2023

It's not too long to the event so will post more details as we get closer.

Thanks
Sharan

Hi All

Some good news! I just saw that we have been given an ASF booth for FOSDEM so
looking forward to being there on 4th and 5th February and meeting up with
everyone.

As usual I will setup a wiki page with the details and people can book booth
time to promote their project.

Thanks

Re: The ASF at OpenSource Experience Paris, France

2022-10-16 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi JB

All the project logos are here https://apache.org/logos/ - these are the ones
I use for sticker printing. Herve has a few project ones but mainly the general
ASF ones for Community over code, Apache Way and the foundation ones.

If Olivier is coming along then I think he has one of the ASF roller banners.

Hi Daniel

I have a query or a bug report :-). The current montage includes Trafodion
which I know is in the Attic. It does'nt appear in the project list of logos

Is there a way to check that all the projects being displayed in the montage
are active ones?

Re: Booth at Open Source India 2022

2022-09-10 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi Priya

This is great news! It's good to see in person events starting up again and
also the ASF being invited to participate.

Thanks very much for being part of the team of volunteers helping out at the
ASF booth. I will follow up with you and the others offline to make sure you
have whatever is needed for the booth and some swag to hand out as giveaways.

As a Community Partner we generally will promote the event and our
participation via our media channels. It would also be good to check with Joe
Brockmeier, VP M to see if our participation can also be promoted via the
main ASF media channels.

Thanks
Sharan

Re: Stickers for Apache Pulsar

2022-05-17 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi Aaron

Thanks for contacting ComDev - and yes - this is where projects can request
stickers for events, meetups and Apachecon. We will be looking to have
stickers available at the ASF booth at Apachecon so will create a list on the
wiki for any projects interested.

We also provide the option via Redbubble for projects to get their project
branding setup so that the community can purchase branded project swag. I'll
take a look at Redbubble to see if I can find out what happened to your logo.
If anything we can organise uploading the logo again and getting it approved by
the project before releasing it for sale.

We use the project logos from the official page https://www.apache.org/logos/#

I hope this answers your questions - if not then please let me know.

Thanks
Sharan

Hi Jean-Frederic

Here is the link to the Where's the Stuff page in the Comdev wiki
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=81789772

The good news is that it looks like we already have an ASF banner and some
flyers in Barcelona with Ignasi - so please reach out to him to see if you can
co-ordinate to get access to them.

I will follow up on the swag. Do you have an idea of the number of potential
attendees?

Re: Issue with https://reporter.apache.org/wizard/statistics

2022-04-10 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi Karl-Heinz

Yes you are in the right place. The reporter tool is one that is maintained by
ComDev.
I took a look at your links and agree that for those two mailing list the
statistics suddenly stop in January 2022 even though there are posts up till
April 2022.

My first thought was it is being done by Kibble but taking a look at the Comdev
page https://community.apache.org/about/ I found the code for
reporter.apache.org is sitting in comdev's SVN.

https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/comdev/reporter.apache.org/

I'm not sure what's been deployed and whether it is the tagged version or the
trunk. Looking around I see there is a script that is pulling mailing list data
that uses

http://mail-archives.us.apache.org/mod_mbox/

So not sure if it's anything to do with that. It probably needs someone with
better coding skills than me investigate it :-) - so if any of our committers
are available then please take a look and see you what you can find.

Thanks
Sharan

[jira] [Commented] (COMDEV-425) Reporter tool's "Busiest GitHub topics" is missing "lucene" for Lucene project

Sharan Foga commented on COMDEV-425:

Hi [~mikemccand]  sorry for dropping the ball on this. I can help with Kibble
configuration but not with code. It looks like there is still some fuzzy logic
in the code that is linking it to the repos that have "lucene" in there
somewhere. This fuzzy filter logic exists in Kibble as part of the web
interface - but in the web interface it actually includes the complete list of
repos it is has selected and I can see that the lucene only repo is included.
What's strange in the reporter tool stats is that I don't see any of the
lucene only repo pull requests coming through at all. To be frank - I'm afraid
I don't how to fix it so will try posting a message on the Kibble mailing list
to see if there is someone available to take a look at it.

the issue load. What issue tracker are you using? (If it is a Jira - then
please send me a link and I will add it as a source to Kibble too).

ApacheCon@Home Update - Community Track

2021-10-10 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

First of all my apologies for not sending this update earlier.

I hope that many of you came along to support and attend ApacheCon@Home
(including our Community Track). I'd like to thank everyone who submitted
something for our Community Track and especially all of our speakers who took
the time to prepare and present something. I hope those that attended found
something new, interesting or useful.

Thank you also to Swapnil Mane, our ComDev PMC Chair for opening the track with
his presentation on the growth of the ALCs. It's always great to listen and
learn from the experiences of others and I particularly enjoyed Owen O'Malley's
talk on the 10 traps to avoid when running an Apache Project. We had some great
talks on the track so if you didn't get the chance to see the presentations
live - then make sure you catch the recordings on the ASF Youtube Channel.
Unless anyone beats me to it - as soon as I get the link I will post it!

I know I have said this before but I always look forward to learning something
new at our conferences. It isn't only about the presentations, it's also the
questions. Hearing the questions from the audience gives us different
perspectives. Thank you all for participating and sharing.

One very special mention goes out the Srabasti Banerjee who in the background
responded to my call for help to manage the Community Track on the day when I
was unavailable. Thank you so much for volunteering. It may seem like a small
thing - but these small things together make something big :-) This is how
community works. Thank you!

Finally kudos, thanks and eternal gratitude goes out to the Rich Bowen, Ruth
Suehle and Brian Proffitt (and all those others behind the scenes) from the
conferences team who probably had the busiest week ever by making sure that any
issues were resolved as quickly, calmly and efficiently.

Looking forward to the next one! :-)

Thanks
Sharan

Conscious Language Checker Tool Being Developed

2021-09-09 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

I'm posting this here as it is sort of related to my thread around tools that
could help with language.

A new tool is currently being developed under our D project that is called
the Conscious Language Checker that can scan Apache projects repos, code and
highlight potential words that could be potentially inappropriate or may cause
offence. Like any ASF project the tool is under development and the first
version of it is getting a range of feedback.

If you want to learn a bit more about the tool, help to develop it or simply
want to join the conversation - the discussion is happening over the
d...@diversity.apache.org and here is a link to the discussion thread
https://s.apache.org/r57ba

If you are interested in taking a look at the tool dashboard - here is the
link: https://clc.diversity.apache.org/

My understanding is that projects can opt in if they want their results to be
included so please feel free to join the conversation.

Thanks
Sharan

Re: [DISCUSSION] Do we have any ideas, initiatives or tools to help non English speakers contribute to ASF projects?

2021-09-09 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi Willem

Sorry for the delayed response - and thanks very much for the feedback.

The ALC have been an excellent way to reach out the different communities
around the world in their local language, and I think this will always be a
very strong way to attract new people. Unfortunately the pandemic has stopped
in person events and meetups, but keeping the communication active via Podcasts
etc as you are doing will definitely help.

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions, and it is also good to see how you are
working to mix the languages to reach even more people. It is great to see how
people are trying different steps to improve the experience for others :-)

I think the online format of ApacheCon has given us more flexibility and
options for having sessions in other languages - and (Rich please correct me if
I am wrong:-) my understanding is that the HopIn platform used for ApacheCon
could be made available to projects who want to hold a project specific online
event. That means that projects with communities that have multiple languages
could possibly look at staging smaller targeted multi language events.

Thanks again for sharing!
Sharan

[DISCUSSION] Do we have any ideas, initiatives or tools to help non English speakers contribute to ASF projects?

2021-08-29 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

Recently I heard about an incident where a potential contributor wanted to
contribute something to an ASF project but had found it difficult to interact
because of the language barrier. They had very limited English skills.

I'd like to start a discussion to get some ideas around what we could do in
general to encourage or help people who may find it hard to become involved at
the ASF because of language.

I seem to remember that the latest ASF D Survey had some findings around
language confidence and that it had sometimes acted as a barrier for new
contributors. Do we have any plans, initiatives or existing tools that could
help with this?. It would be great to get some feedback from anyone that has
experienced this language barrier and discuss what could be done to improve the
situation and help others.

Does anyone have any comments, suggestions or ideas? I'd like to hear them.
Please join the conversation and let's see what can be done.

Thanks
Sharan

ApacheCon@Home and ApacheCon Asia Schedules Now Available!

2021-07-06 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi Everyone

This is a quick reminder that the schedules for both ApacheCon Asia and
ApacheCon@Home have been published! And you know what that means? It means it's
time to take a look and plan which presentations you want to attend..and this
year there year there is a lot to choose from.

For ApacheCon Asia the whole track schedule is here
https://apachecon.com/acasia2021/tracks.html and of course we would like to
promote the Community track :-) which features talks in English and Chinese
https://apachecon.com/acasia2021/tracks/community.html

For ApacheCon@Home the whole track schedule is here
https://www.apachecon.com/acah2021/tracks/ and our extra promotion goes to our
Community Track which is focussed on 3 key themes, Apache Way (including
Governance), Community Collaboration and Community Health. I am very excited
to see so many talks related to community health, possible metrics and ways to
visualise information. We have talks from Apache Superset, Apache Kibble, some
suggestions for new metrics and also the results of research done on Apache
Incubator communities. https://www.apachecon.com/acah2021/tracks/community.html

Registration is open for both events - it is free and you can choose to donate
something to the ASF.

[FINAL REMINDER] CFP for ApacheCon@Home and ApacheCon Asia Closes on 3rd May 2021

2021-05-01 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

We have seen a trend where many of our CFP submissions come in during the final
week and especially the last few days..and this year is no exception :-)

This is a final reminder that the CFP for both ApacheCon@Home and ApacheCon
Asia will be closing on Monday, May 3rd, 2021 at 8:00 AM (UTC).

Please do not wait until the last minute.. If you haven't submitted your talk
yet then you only have a short time left to do it. If you need some ideas or
inspiration about what to submit then please take a look at my previous
reminder email here https://s.apache.org/dfj9n

My understanding is that there will be no extensions to the CFP so if you do
not get your submission sent in time, then you will miss out.

I've included the links to the CFPs again below:

CFP Apachcon Asia https://acasia2021.jamhosted.net

CFP ApacheCon@Home https://acah2021.jamhosted.net

You can find all the details about both ApacheCons on the ApacheCon site.

Looking forward to seeing your submissions!

Thanks
Sharan

[REMINDER] Community Track CFP Open for ApacheCon Asia and ApacheCon@Home

2021-04-10 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

This is a reminder that we have Community Tracks for both ApacheCon Asia and
ApacheCon@Home which is great news.

This means that our community has the opportunity to participate in both CFPs
and remember that they are separate events so it could be a chance for you to
reach a completely new audience.

So why submit something for the Community Track CFP?

The ASF and our communities are growing every year. We are attracting new
projects and new contributors. Our diversity makes us strong so it becomes
important that we hear from the people within our communities.

What topics could you talk about and submit?

Your Apache story is important. How and why did you become involved with the
ASF?
What does it mean to you to be a Contributor, Committer, Member or Officer in
the Foundation?

What does the Apache way mean to you? What are your real life stories about
understanding and adopting it? Did you or your project have any challenges to
overcome?

All those with knowledge of Apache branding, licencing, governance - please
feel free to submit something that will share your knowledge with others.

How diverse and inclusive are our communities? Do you have any data or opinions
about where we are now and what our future communities could evolve into?

The Community Track is all about our communities sharing their thoughts and
experiences with others, so that they can learn from it - so please submit to
one or both of the CFPs if you have something you want share.

Links to the CFPs are below:

CFP Apachcon Asia https://acasia2021.jamhosted.net

CFP ApacheCon@Home https://acah2021.jamhosted.net

You can find all the details about both ApacheCons on the ApacheCon site.

Looking forward to your submissions :-)

---

The ApacheCon Planners and the Apache Software Foundation are pleased to
announce that ApacheCon@Home will be held online, September 21-23, 2021. Once
again, we’ll be featuring content from dozens of our projects, as well as
content about our community, how Apache works, business models around Apache
software, the legal aspects of open source, and many other topics.

Last year’s virtual ApacheCon@Home event was a big success, with 5,745
registrants from more than 150 countries, spanning every time zone, with the
virtual format delivering content to attendees who would never have attended an
in-person ApacheCon (83% of post-event poll responders in 2020 indicated this
was their first ApacheCon ever)!

Given the great participation and excitement for last year’s event, we are
announcing the Call for Presentations is now open to presenters from around the
world until May 1st. Talks can be focused on the topics above, as well as any
of our amazing projects. Submit your talks today!

We look forward to reviewing your contribution to one of the most popular open
source software events in the world!

Quick Update About FOSDEM 2021

2021-02-08 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

I wanted to post a brief update about FOSDEM 2021 that happened over the
weekend. Usually the first weekend in February is when thousands of Open Source
enthusiasts converge in Brussels to meetup and attend FOSDEM. We have had an
ASF booth there for a few years and before that an Apache OpenOffice (AOO) had
one.

This year due to the pandemic - it was online so AOO had devroom and we also
had an ASF booth. Both the booth and the devrooom were open and active over the
whole weekend. Talks were given, videos played and of course chatting to anyone
interested in knowing more about the foundation, projects or open source in
general.

We also ran a few videos and Claude's projects app!

It was also good to see some Apache people and have some interesting
discussions with some potential new ideas to try. We had some requests for info
about Netbeans and Spamassassin! I did a couple of Kibble demos for Jena and
Tomcat (And thanks Mark T for finding at least one and maybe two bugs!).

Kudos to Kenneth, Aditya and Trevor for volunteering to help out with our booth
content. And a very special thank you goes out to Claude Warren (Mad
Scientist) for helping 'person' the booth.

The FOSDEM team were brilliant as ever and we are looking forward to next year!

Thanks

Re: (FOSDEM) booth

2021-02-03 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi Claude

No worries. We have been working on getting the booth content up and running.
There are some limitations regarding how to manage video content which we are
trying to resolve. Once that is done we can see what is possible and maybe see
if we can link to your app.

We have been given an element chatroom that will be our main space to connect
with attendees. I think the booths open an hour before the main program starts
so we do have the opportunity to catch people early on.

I think it would be good to ensure there is someone around to 'person' the
booth so thanks for volunteering :-) Also if you have any preferred timeslots
then please include it so we can take that into account.

Thanks
Sharan

Re: ASF Virtual Booth for FOSDEM 2021

2021-01-10 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

As mentioned in my previous mail, I have setup a page on the wiki to help with
the planning for our participation at FOSDEM. You can find the page here

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/COMDEV/FOSDEM+2021

so please take a look. If you have any suggestions for content we could use on
the booth page or would like to participate then please add your name to the
list of volunteers.

We have the virtual booth for 2 full days. In the past we have allocated
timeslots on the booth to projects to talk or present at specific times. If any
projects are interested in doing that for this virtual event then please let me
know and we can setup a schedule.

I should have some more details later in the week from the FOSDEM organisers.

Thanks
Sharan

ASF Virtual Booth for FOSDEM 2021

2021-01-06 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi Everyone

Here is the second FOSDEM post. We have some good news - we applied to have a
virtual booth at FOSDEM 2021 and our application has been accepted. This means
that we will need to organise and prepare something for our booth.

Normally we generally turn up with a lot of swag and stickers to give away,
this time we'll need to think about and do something completely different.

The FOSDEM organisers have told us that we can:
- Create content for our booth on the booths website (stands.fosdem.org)
- Have access to a matrix chatroom
- Have a place to store any videos

We'll need some volunteers to help us to define and create our content, and
also be available during FOSDEM to be in the chatroom to respond to questions
from attendees.

I will put together a page on the Comdev wiki to start listing any content we
could use and also the tasks around getting them added to our virtual booth.

We don't have much time as 6th and 7th February is not very far away so if you
are interested in helping out then please let me know.

Thanks
Sharan

FOSDEM 2021 - Online Event

2021-01-06 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi Everyone

This is the first of a couple of posts about FOSDEM.
If you haven't seen the details already, FOSDEM will be a completely online
event for 2021.
https://fosdem.org/2021/

It is completely free and tends to attract a huge following of open source
enthusiasts. As usual it will be made up of many different developer rooms
(Devrooms) covering a range of topics - so I hope you can find something
interesting. Our ASF projects have always been strongly represented at FOSDEM.

You can find more information about the various Devrooms here
https://fosdem.org/2021/schedule/tracks/

Please check out the schedule for your favourite project or something that
could be interesting for you!

Over the last few years FOSDEM has had a Community Devroom covering some great
topics around community development and collaboration. This year we will have
another Devroom on Sunday 7th February (and I am guessing that remote
collaboration is going to be a hot topic!). Anyway please see below for the
schedule.

ApacheCon@Home Community Track Videos Available

2020-10-23 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi Everyone

All the talks recorded from ApacheCon@Home including our own Community track
are now available on the ASF's Youtube channel

https://www.youtube.com/user/TheApacheFoundation

If you want to go directly to our Community track then you can find it here.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLU2OcwpQkYCykVJqvc8CWLSx-Vkb1gPzT

I'd like to thank to everyone who helped make our Community Track successful
(and that includes being part of the audience!)

Huge thanks goes out to the ApacheCon team who worked like crazy not only
during the conference but also afterwards to make sure that everything like
these videos were edited and now published.

Please enjoy watching the videos and also help spread the word to the people
that didn't get a chance to see them live so they can certainly get to see them
now.

Thanks

It's Over - ApacheCon@Home Update

2020-10-04 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

I hope that me, many of you attended our first online conference ApacheCon@Home
last week. I want to especially thank all our Community track speakers for
participating and making the our track very special.
Our track covered 2 time zones and had a truly global reach.

Thanks to our Indore ALC members, we had our first ever ApacheCon presentation
in Hindi. It has been a while since I had the chance to listen in and attend so
really enjoyed hearing about innersource in China, hearing about the real life
project experience of Apache Airflo and Apache Pulsar, and Myrle's talk about
the vendor neutrality and domination was something particularly interesting.
Becoming aware of the different perspectives - academia, companies involved in
open source, open source financing etc was all there. There are lots of other
great talks so please watch out for the recordings on the ASF Youtube channel
that will be appearing over the next week or so and check out any that you may
have missed first time around.

I have been involved in Apache for several years but am always pleasantly
surprised to be learning something new. A key highlight for me was realising
that you can still gain a great rapport, have fun and be actively engaged in an
online conference. I am guessing that we will be running a few more of these
type of conferences in the future.

A huge thank you goes out to the Rich Bowen, Ruth Suehle and Brian Proffitt
(and all those others behind the scenes) from the conferences team who probably
had the busiest week ever by making sure that any issues were resolved as
calmly and efficiently. Kudos!

Thanks
Sharan

Are you ready for ApacheCon@Home next week?

2020-09-25 Thread Sharan Foga

Hi All

It is getting closer..

A reminder that ApacheCon@Home is just around the corner and will be happening
next week, so please make sure that you are registered.
https://www.apachecon.com/acah2020/index.html

Registration is free but if you would like to give a voluntary donation to the
ASF as part of your registration then you can easily do so.
https://hopin.to/events/apachecon-home

After an amazing response to the CFP we have a fantastic Community Track lined

be featuring content in languages other than English. There is a complete track
in Mandarin, and our own Community track includes content in Hindi. Other
project tracks have also included content in other languages where possible.
Please check the ApacheCon@Homw full track schedule for language details.
https://www.apachecon.com/acah2020/tracks/

So what can you expect from our exiting track this year?

- Find out more about our Apache Local Communiities
- Hear real contributor stories
- Learn how to help companies contribute to open source..
- Listen to what's been happening with D
- Keeping open source vendor neutral..
- Avoiding burnout..
- Teaching open source to the next generation...
- And much, much more!

Please check our track schedule and plan what you want to attend.
https://www.apachecon.com/acah2020/tracks/community.html

Sessions will be recorded so if you miss one you will be able to watch it later
on the ASF Youtube channel shortly after the event closes.
https://www.youtube.com/user/TheApacheFoundation/

If you haven't already joined the ApacheCon@Home Slack channel at
https://apachecon.slack.com/ then please do .
The main channel is #apachecon and many projects have setup their own channels
for chat. We also have #community setup so please feel free to drop in and say
Hi.

Please don't forget to follow us on Twitter @apachecon to get the information
updates and live feedback throughout the event. Feel free to spread the word on
social media using the hashtag #acah2020!

Hi All

We've received some feedback that our website https://community.apache.org/

as this isn't really active anymore. Instead we have been focussing on things
such as Diversity and Inclusion as well as the Apache Local Community

work is currently being done to update our website so please can the
contributors working the website add these tasks to the list.

Re: ApacheCon@Home - All Speakers Please Register in Hopin

2020-08-07 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi Jeff

Ideally it would be good to do it live so that we can support a live Q from
the audience.
My understanding that it is possible to stream pre-recorded content but there
might be some technical overhead to deal such as unsupported configurations.

One solution option mentioned was putting the recorded content on the ASF
Youtube channel in advance so we can link to it.

So the answer to your question is yes - you can make a video recording of your
talk.

If the problem is that you are unavailable at the time your talk is scheduled
for then please talk to the Track Chair as there is probably flexibility to
move talks to a better timeslot for you.

Thanks
Sharan

You can submit your talk to any category so please choose the one that best
fits the talk.
All the track chairs (i.e.the people selecting and preparing the tracks) can
see everything that has been submitted. This means that if we see anything that
is better in another category - we can contact each other to discuss it and get
things moved.

As Sheng Wu mentions the proposal for a track in Mandarin is receiving a lot of
support. So if someone submits a community talk in Mandarin then it might be
good to see if it fits in the existing track. If we get 5 or more submissions
for community related talks in Mandarin then it might be simpler to run a
second Mandarin track focussed on community topics so this could run in
parallel to the first one.

> 2. If there is no sufficient talkings in one language for that timezone, what
> will happen?
>

If we get no talks submitted or selected for a specific language then we cannot
run anything for that timezone. If we get at least one submission that is
selected, then we can run it no problem. What we might try to do is combine the
talks in specific languages together so they can come from any category.

ApacheCon @Home CFP Submissions in Different Languages

2020-07-11 Thread Sharan Foga

Hi All

We are looking for talks in other languages than English for ApacheCon @Home.
As the conference will be online it means that we can run tracks for specific
time zones. Initial thoughts are something that could be US friendly, EU
friendly and China friendly.

This means that as well as English we could run specific community content in
other languages for the timezone (eg Spanish, French for US and EU time zone).
Apache communities are diverse and global so if you are interested in (or more
comfortable) submitting a talk in languages other than English then please do.

There is currently a proposal to run a Mandarin track initially focussed on
various Apache projects but I think it might be good to get some community
related talks too. So if you would like to do an Apache Way or community
related talk in Mandarin then please submit it to CFP.

Also if any of our ALCs are interested in putting together a track in their
audience language then please let me know as this could be another potential
way us to have additional content.

Through ApacheCon @Home we have a great opportunity to reach out to a wider
audience so let's make use of all the ways we can.

Thanks
Sharan

Re: CFP Open for Community Track for ApacheCon @Home

2020-07-10 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

A reminder that the CFP closes on Monday 13th July so if you haven't made your
submission yet then you have only a few more days to get it in.

We currently have around 20 CFP submissions for our Community track and I know
that many of the submissions come in at the last moment so please dont leave it
too late. The more submissions we have, the the more choice we have to build a
community track that reflects different aspects of our community.

Thanks
Sharan

CFP Open for Community Track for ApacheCon @Home

2020-07-01 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

I hope that you have all seen the message about this year's ApacheCon being an
online event.

https://s.apache.org/72l7a

So what does that mean for our Community track? Nothing - we still want to have
one :-) but we do need more submissions.

Those of you who submitted talks expecting to present live, now need to decide
if you are happy to present online instead. Please login to the CFP system at
https://acna2020.jamhosted.net/ to access your submission and cancel it if you
no longer want it to be included.

We also have some very good news for those who missed the previous ApacheCon
deadline to submit a talk for our Community Track because the CFP has re-opened
but only for a couple of weeks.

You have until the 13th July 2020 to submit talk or presentation - so please
don't leave it until the last minute!

Please submit your talks here:
https://acna2020.jamhosted.net/

So what type of talks or sessions are we looking for? Here are some suggestions
and potential ideas to get you thinking!

* Our ASF communities are growing so it becomes even more important to hear
from people within our communities. We want to hear your story, how and why did
you become involved with Apache? What does it mean to be a First time
contributor, Regular contributor, Committer, Member, Officer or Director?

* Is your project building its community? What have you done that other Apache
communities could learn from?

* What is your Apache Way so what is your story? What were the challenges and
how were they overcome? For the uninitiated - how does governance, branding
and licensing work?

* What about our range of Community Tools? Why not share an introduction or
getting started session (eg. Apache Kibble, Apache Whimsy, Apache Training,
Apache Ponymail

* How diverse and inclusive are our communities? And looking into the future
how are our communities evolving?

Please remember the Community track covers a lot of areas so the list above
isn't a definitive one so if you want to present something then get submitting.
:-)

Thanks
Sharan

Hi Jarek

+1 I really like the idea of a focus value theme!

Thanks

Re: [ALC] ALC presentation for events

2020-05-09 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi Tomek

This is a great idea! Having the same presentation will be a good way to
ensure that we keep the message consistent.

Have you heard about the Apache Training project? It is currently in incubation
and although it mentions putting together training material for Apache project
http://training.apache.org/ Essentially the material is in the form of
presentations and we might already have some of material in place for the
general intro.

You could start working on it in Google slides and my suggestion would be that
we actually convert the presentation material to be stored the material as part
of Apache Training. That means that we could have a central place for people to
find this and any other presentations we create.

I think we could setup the Comdev section to incorporate the different language
versions so will ask the question on the Training mailing list.

Thanks
Sharan

Re: Community Management, Leadership & Cooking FOSS Backstage Webinars

2020-05-04 Thread Sharan Foga
Hi All

These sound pretty interesting so I hope that some of you can attend these
sessions.

The Corona situation has affected many and perhaps money is tight so the Plain
Schwarz / FOSS Backstage team have given us a couple of free discount codes to
share with you.

The codes are as follows:

FOSS-WEBINAR-FLORIAN
FOSS-WEBINAR-BEN

I understand that places are limited so please only register if you plan to
attend. Also please feel free to post any comments or feedback on the sessions.

Thanks
Sharan
