[slim] Weird issue with SlimServer

2005-05-24 Thread track2

Hi everyone. I'm checking ou the SlimDevices products so I thought I'd
give SlimServer a try. Browsing music through the web interface works
great except for one odd issue. If the web interface is displaying an
album that is comprised of FLAC files, most of the time the 2nd to the
last track is display twice. It doesn't happen with all my FLAC
albums, and so far many of the albums I have in MP3 are showing up
fine, but it's just with most of the FLAC albums. For an example, see
the attachment. Has anyone seen this issue? BTW, I'm running
SlimServer 6.0.2 - 3085 on a Windows 2003 server.

[slim] apple lossless

2005-05-24 Thread Scott

I have os x 10.3

I can get AAC to play, but lossless doesnt work at all. Slimserver
recognizes the track, tries to play it, then skips over the track.

Any suggestions?

I have the same problem between a SliMP3 and a SBG. I think it's
unavoidable due to different buffer sizes, and I plan to upgrade both to
SB2s as soon as the money tree blooms.

[slim] Re: softsqueeze sync problem

2005-05-24 Thread caclement

I am having the same issue and am looking for help. I am trying to sync
a squeezebox1 with softsqueeze. I followed the website and loaded the
latest java as well as the java mp3 plugin. I can get it close but not
close enough for it to consider it being sync'd. There is usually
somewhere between a .25 second to full 1 second delay. Not good enough
to suit my purposes. I'm told that the synchronization between
squeezeboxes directly is perfect. Can't say for sure as I haven't
purchased my second squeezebox as of yet. I have networked pcs
throughout the home and would like to establish a wireless whole house
audio so it needs to be truly sync'd. Anyone have any ideas as to how
to accomplish this with softsqueeze or any other method.

Thanks

This makes a total hash of my library; entire albums disappear (both
WAV and FLAC; MP3s seem unaffected) although the number of tracks is
correct for each artist in Browse by Artist. That is, the page will
show "2 albums with 47 songs by 1 artist", where there should be
three albums, and the two albums shown only contain a total of 24
tracks. Further inspection shows that 2 of 6 FLAC albums are missing,
and 87 out of 91 WAV albums are missing.

It's a mystery why changing the Guess Tags format would affect
tagged music.

What i'm seeing is a collection of things that have been talked about on

1)i download the current 6.0.2 that is available from the download page
the CPU spins at 90% for about a minute maybe longer, goes idle for 10
secs and then repeatsand the squeezebox goes blank

2)I download the 6.0.1 from the 6.0.1 folder and i'm missing about 300
albums, and lots and lots of tracks on the albums. They are all present
in itunes

i'll try the 6.0.3 and 6.1 and see what happens with it. Like i said i
have 6.0.1 trunk on the emac and it runs fine

is there something that i should turn on for debug ?

The trunk version is always a snapshot of a given moment. You'll have
to forget about 6.0.1 trunk as it's now at least 6.0.3. And the
snapshots aren't kept forever.

BTW: if you have problems with 6.0.3 and 6.1 I don't think 6.0.1 would

Slimserver isn't designed to server as a radio station. As such, you can only
connect to the server as a new player. You might consider using softsqueeze if
your friends' internet connections are fast enough. You can sync softsqueeze
so that all players share a common playlist, but they will still EACH have
their own copy of the stream.

Which "latest" are you downloading - 6.0.2 release, 6.0.3 nightly, or
6.1.0 nightly? Report back afterwards; lots of fixes have been made
since 6.0.0, especially to the file scanning. I'd recommend dowing a
'wipe cache' after the new install, found on the Server Settings >

check the box above the Rescan button.

[slim] Re: Wireless ADSL router recommendations

2005-05-24 Thread lostboy

Max,

I'm currently using a WRT54G router with a DLINK ADSL modem. The router
has an alternative firmware (DD-WRT at the moment). The two box soln has
allowed me to upgrade from router from a DLINK 614 (B only) whilst
keeping the modem - I now use the 614 as a B only access point for my
SB1s, and the WRT54G as a G only access point (for SB2 and other kit).
If ADSL 2 comes to my area it also means I can change the modem without
needing a new router.

The WRTG54 performance is dependent upon firmware quality - the h/w
seems solid. I've never used stock Linksys (my first WRT54 was to act
as bridge to the 614 to support my TiVo so needed new f/ware), and when
I decided to go for the G for whole house I went for another WRT54G.
DD-WRT f/ware seems solid, Satori required the occassional reboot
(maybe once a fortnight). If you think you might need to do other
things with your router - the open s/w base for the Linksys means that
there's lots of community supported options out there, otherwise
probably no good reason to choose it over anything else.

The best solution would be either the attenuators suggested by Mark

yeah, they had an option for that at least sometime along the way, but theyignored what you put in it.the fix I've suggested for you will only work on first start.  it appears thatonce a plugin fails, it is added to the disabled list.  Once disabled, there is

the fix I've suggested for you will only work on first start. it appears that
once a plugin fails, it is added to the disabled list. Once disabled, there is
no way to create the itunes tab. This means this fix will not work for you
since you have already restarted the server since. However, the fix should
work if you erase your prefs (as if you were starting new like before). I'll
be filing a bug report on this problem.

[slim] AOL Instant Message Support

2005-05-24 Thread Jon Schalliol
I did some searches of the archive and couldn't find anyone
mentioning adding AOL instant message (AIM) support to
SlimServer/Squeezebox. I would like the ability to send an instant
message to my wife at home. The display in my living room would be
perfect for this. I could imagine that SlimServer could change the
clock (or whatever was being used) to flashing the display on and off
to get the attention of someone in the room and then display the
scrolling message. I would use this to send messages to her like,
"I'm leaving the office." As we're expecting our first child, this
could also be nice because I might not want to wake my child with a
phone ringing, but it would also open the door to some services that
the AIM network can provide. Would anyone else find this useful?

If the crashes aren't related to some of your actions just run it without
any parameter. This might already give a hint in what direction to look
further.

One more possibility... If you run slimserver from the command line

The log is stored in a file called slimserver.log. I don't know exactly
where it is on windows systems, but guess it's where you installed
slimserver.

That's the only technical reason against implementing it. I don't
really want to leave a Windows machine running just for the streaming
service. I don't know if there's any chance for the sb2 to do this
stand alone, and how practical it would be as a user interface. Also
I'd like to have better integration between slimserver and whatever
else there is - not just an either / or switch.

A nice solution would be to make the catalog data available from
within slimserver, but still decode the .wmas on the sb2. That in turn
would require one or more of these services to open the "protocol"
their client uses for communicating.

[slim] how to get debug log when slimserver crashing?

2005-05-24 Thread bouton

My slimserver (6.1 or 6.02 both) on winxp (with and without SP2) on a
shuttle P4 is crashing quite constantly with my slimp3 saying
"connecting...is this the right ip..." somthing like that. I go to the
web interface and select the various debug options and save. Then it
crashes, I go to the web interface, get page not found, hit refresh, go
to the debug page -- no log to be found and the checks are gone.

So how do I figure out what is going wrong. Only the pre-installed
plugins are in. I thought it was the advanced alarm doing it but
deleted that , reformatted the hard drive even and it still happens.
Thanks

I think you need some in-line attenuators. These devices
are basically tubes with a phone socket on one end, a
plug on the other and an attenuator in the middle. They're
designed for exactly what you're trying to do.

You can get then from:

[slim] SlimServer 2 Crashes after acting as a bridge

2005-05-24 Thread flugle

I've had my Slimserver 2 for about 2 weeks now and I think its a
fantastic little unit, however it does seem to have one issue.

I have an Xbox hanging off the unit and I have the SlimServer set up to
work as a wireless bridge. It all works fine, I can use Live on the XBOX
without any problems. However, when I turn the Xbox off, and then put
the SlimServer into standby, it appears to turn the unit right off
rather than standby as the units display goes blank.

When I hit the standby button on the remote to turn it on again - it
sits on "Connecting" for about 1 second, then turns itself off
again. The screen goes blank, it doesn't display the clock or date.
Hitting the standby button again results in the same thing - it
displays "connecting" for a second, then turns off again. Repeat ad
nauseam

The only way I can get it back is to unplug the power, and then it
boots fine.

I never have this problem any other time - only when I'm using
something hanging off the Wireless bridge.

(And it's not my wireless router - I have a laptop sitting next to it
which remains connected throughout)

Any ideas?
