[slim] Re: Squeezebox 3 Display failure!!!

2005-12-10 Thread happyfishman

Seems like this is a potential component fault issue.

I have noticed that my device does get a little hot when it is running.
It's in a room maintained at around 18-20 deg C and it's not placed
close to anything that generates any additional heat so I'm not
creating the problem. I think that the heating up is causing the
display to fail since if I power down, the standby screen is gradually
restored within a couple of minutes. If I turn the device back on too
soon the affected parts of the display are still missing. If I wait for
5-10 minutes the full display is restored and will remain for about an
hour before failing. The music playing functions are not affected. I
have the display set at full brightness and I'm wondering whether this
is aggrevating or even causing the problem.

Is the heat generation normal in this device? Also wondering whether
this might have a regional slant. I am in the UK operating with 240v
(European?) version. Any ideas anyone?

[slim] Re: Squeezebox 3 Display failure!!!

2005-12-10 Thread docbee

Hi,
my brother will bring me two sb3 on x-mas when he takes the long way
from california to germany to visit my family. I am now quite concerned
that importing these babies this way will bring me into serious trouble
when they have a production fault like in the situation described
above. Oh my god... all this shipping overhead for replacement will
drive my nuts (and poor)!

Up to now I thought sb's are stable products where a hw defect is
something you normally don't see. But the wave of display failures
building up here does make me a little nervous what to think about
product quality :-(

After having excellent experience with my slimp3 and the sb2 I hope the
sb3's will not wipe out this impression. For international customers
(that do directly buy at slim devices) problems like these are going to
seriously damage reputation!

Hopefully my two sb3s coming ahead will work fine. Otherwise I will be
extremly disappointed! I can live with beta-sw that gets better over
time, but I am not willing to live with beta-hw for serious money. As
said before, I am really concerned and the happiness about getting
these nice babies is mixed with fear that they might fail the next day.

[slim] Bass/Treble Setting with Fishbone Interface - Help

I routinely use th efishbone interface. The other day I was bored and
played around with the bass/treble setting on the GUI. I cranked them
both all the wa down to hear the impact. Problem is now that I can
change them back and the music sounds flat and muddy. Is this a bug?
I've tried everything to go back to the default settings. Is there a
file somewhere that I can change to go back? Obviosuly it saves these
setting somewhere. I really dont want to reinstall server software as
other things are working fine?

[slim] Radio in Slimserver and Squeezenetwork

2005-12-10 Thread WladiSGE

Hi, sorry maybe a very stupid question but what may be the reason why
this radio mms://nashe.e-se.ru/nashe1/ isn't working on squeezenetwork
or slimserver anymore although:

1. it is still working in Windows media player (of course same link)
2. some days ago it was working on squeezenetwork (yesterday I upgrade
to firmware 28 and used slimserver the first time but I think it is not
the reason for this, isnt it?)
3. it a stereo (128kb) stream, so the BBC problem doesn't match.

My Squeezebox immediately says: can't open stream for:

[slim] Re: New build of Moose (windows front end) now up

2005-12-10 Thread mattybain

>1. Main Window - if I click on the album artwork, it disapears for a
couple of seconds then gets redisplayed.

1. Same for me but this really isn't an issue for me as it is more like
a fraction of a second and why would you click on the artwork anyway?

>4. Don't know what I did, but after bit of use, the playlist wasn't
displaying any tracks, and I couldn't add any from the library.

4. I found that after putting a large custom playlist I accidently
pressed some keys in the search box (I think that is what it is for,
Top left hand of the Library screen, it seems to do a search), I think
as soon as you press return it deletes the playlist and comes up with
something completely random. It has just replaced Aimee Mann with Aqua
- very distressing.

>7. Would be nice to be able to drag slider bars - eg. to change volume
or track position (eg. visual update when dragging such as display
volume/track time as hover text, commit when mouse button is
released).

7. I agree this would be nice but not really a must have.

>8. Is the Play button (bottom left) required, as there is a ">" play
button bottom-right? Nb. the bottom-right button could toggle between
">" and "||" when play/pause.

8. As far as I can tell this just shows the state of the player i.e.
Play / Stop / Pause, I can't get it to do anything.

>10. "Open Folder" doesn't do anything.

10. Works fine for me.

Other things that I have noted

- Current playing song on the library screen really screws up for large
file names, does it really need to be there?

- I am having issues using Moose over a remote desktop in that it
constantly refreshes and flickers. It is fine on the host computer but
not when I access it remotely. Not a huge issue I just don't understand
why.

- Would it be possible to select multiple tracks in the tracklist and
delete/move them on mass. This would be very useful.

- The losing playlist thing is very annoying for me and one of the main
limitations. I do not want to spend a signifcant length of time
compiling and tweaking a playlist to lose it by accidently not pressing
CTRL to add a file (and hence playing it and wiping the playlist). I
think it would be great to either have an option so that clicking adds
and CTRL plays and deletes or have a way of recovering your playlist
(like media player). I know I could save at regular intervals but who
really wants to do that.

- Are there any plans to have internet radio linked for anywhere, I
could really do with accessing LastFM from somewhere on Moose.

Moose just gets better and better, great work.

Matt

Re: [slim] New build of Moose (windows front end) now up

2005-12-10 Thread Dr Lovegrove
On 10/12/05, Philip Meyer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
Just tried Moose for the first time.  Pretty good start - I like it, but I've found some problems (I think):
1. Main Window - if I click on the album artwork, it disapears for a couple of seconds then gets redisplayed.

Aye, this is actually an intended feature.. It re-requests the current artwork.. In the early days Moose would be told that a new song was playing, so it requested artwork, but the server would randomly return the previous songs artwork.. So, clicking the artwork fixed the problem.. Doesnt really make sense anymore - clicking the artwork should probably either cycle the jpgs in the album folder, or maybe jump to some info on the album or something..

2. With a player configured with a blank MAC address, click on any label (eg. "Artist"), and a lot of the text is made invisible.  Click again to redisplay it.  I think this is equivalent to clicking on the "Viewing:" button.  In fact, this seems to happen if clicking on most blank form space.

Clicking the viewing button, or on the background of the now playing window switches the display between tags and paths. Clicking the larger track, artist or album text switches between 'tidy-text' and 'normal'.. Tidy-text strips spaces, removes leading 'The's and capitalises the first letter of the larger text. When I sort right-click menus out, this'll all be more intuitive hopefully.

3. Library - I'm not seeing the artwork thumbnails, just yellow circles instead.

The are problems with these thumbnails if you use the 'rescan folders' way of populating the moo file. 0.17 added a fix if your files are set up with the following folder structure: //  (and accessible via the audioroot path) (and have the file
folder.jpg, cover.jpg or thumb.jpg)
4. Don't know what I did, but after bit of use, the playlist wasn't displaying any tracks, and I couldn't add any from the library.

This doesnt sound good.. If you see it again, and can repeat it, let me know..
5. I can't get the tagger app (Mp3Tag) to work.  Perhaps the current working folder needs to be set to the Mp3Tag install dir when launching?

With folder scanning, the tagger, open folder and album thumbnail options all require your music to be accessible via the audio root path. Also, they must be organised //.

With SQLite scanning, the tagger and open folder features dont currently work, but the album artwork should be less of a pain.
7. Would be nice to be able to drag slider bars - eg. to change volume or track position (eg. visual update when dragging such as display volume/track time as hover text, commit when mouse button is released).

Yes, good idea..
8. Is the Play button (bottom left) required, as there is a ">" play button bottom-right?  Nb. the bottom-right button could toggle between ">" and "||" when play/pause.

The bottom left button shows the status of the player. I need to add graphics to those buttons to neaten things up a bit. Changing the play button to pause is now on the list.. :-)
9. Would be nice if it could be minimised to task tray.

Coming soon..
10. "Open Folder" doesn't do anything.

See 5. above..

Yes, I should probably remove that enter key option now we're dealing
with playlists a bit better.. When you press enter it does the same as
clicking the play button at the to right - ie, clears the playlist and
plays the 'most sensible' item, which is often not the most sensible
in reality..

> 8. As far as I can tell this just shows the state of the player i.e.

It should toggle between play and paused when clicked, but with the
bitmap buttons, it makes little sense anymore really.. Actually, when
it says 'player off', if you click the left of the control - where the
'play' button would be - it'll turn on the player..

> - Current playing song on the library screen really screws up for large

Yes, why did I enlarge this font.. Oops.. But, no, it doesnt really
need to be there, although it can provide useful information about
socket problems there..

Ah, probably the background cycling. I need to add options to turn this off..

Yup, on the list.. I need to implement some kind of CLI message queue
first.. This'll be good for other stuff too though..

Yes.. I'll make the enter key 'insert' rather than 'play'.. Hmm..
Actually, might make more sense having an option - play, append,
insert, do nothing.. Yeah, I'll do that I think..

Yes, it would make sense.. Maybe radio stations should appear in the
load playlist window, at least initially..

[slim] Is there an idiots guide to NAS Servers ?

2005-12-10 Thread elitom

OK I am sure this has been covered before, but I am also sure this
thread will help others like myself who want to ask the same
questions.

My situation.

Running old style SliMP3 and using my desktop PC to run SlimServer.
Now I want to leave the slimserver running 24/7 but do not want to
leave my PC running 24/7, mainly due to boise nad power consumption.

So I am investigating several optios.

1. Buy a second user HP Vectra e-pc (the ones with a laptop power
brick) as its quite and used a max 0f 41W (31W in idle) and a Maxtor
OneToch II 300GB as it has power management to prolong the life of the
HDD.

2. As above but using a Linksys NSLU2 as these devices use less power,
should be quiter and a new one is cheaper than a second user HP Vectra.

BUT I have absolutely no Linux experience whatsoever, so the setting up
would be difficult for me. I have found some guides on the internet, but
I do not understand some of the Linus speak.

Therefore my questions are these.

1. How easy are these NSLU2's to set up with slimserver and is there a
real idits (No previous Linus experience required)guide to doing this
available.

2. Also I have heard that the NSLU2 can be slow, but how much slower
would it be than say the HP Vecta (P3 1GHz / 256MB ram)

The third option would be a Maxtor Shared Storage Plus, but I have read
in these forums that these cannot run slimserver. Is this true? if not
again how easy to setup etc etc...

Thanks for reading and I would be greatful if some kind soul could
advise me accordingly, as I am sure others would be greatful too

[slim] Re: Switch on and off my server with the SB

2005-12-10 Thread Toby

Thank you for your suggestions, but I still don't understand the problem
very well.
I've read the article
support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330909
and I installed the hotfix 330909 package because I use Windows XP
without the service packs ( I use the Psion wavefinder for DAB Radio.
It don't works with the service packs).

Normally I have a small boot partiton (C = 50MB) and a system partition
(E = 5 to 6 GB). D is for the CD Device.

I resized the boot partition to nearly 1,2 GB.

I also read, that a possible problem is that there are too many running
services. So I stoped a view. But the problem is still there.
What's about the SlimServer service. Does it need a lot of resources?

In the mentioned article there is one sentence a cannot understand:'It
is still possible to experience a hibernation problem after you install
this fix if the memory becomes highly fragmented.' What is 'highly
fragmented' and how can I fix that?

There are several bugs and problems in this area, depending on what you
call a bug.

First you have to tell us what server version and what squeezebox you

Odd you mention it. My SB just sits there, I mostly play with the
software, don't really look at the metalized bit, but after reading
your posting I looked more closely at mine.

I've had it 2 weeks and the trim has started to pull away. About 1 oz
of finger nail pressure and it pulled away completely (I just finished
what had already started by itself).

The glue is somewhat tacky, somewhat warm. Maybe the glue doesn't react
well to the heat of the unit?

I have a bunch of radio stations in my favorites that used to work,

Example URLs:

Any idea what's going on here?

Re: [slim] Re: My "SB3 wireless" only works with wired ethernet

2005-12-10 Thread Neil Cameron
If that doesn't work; check that the firmware reported Wireless MAC address
actually matches the true MAC address shown on the SB3 cover. If they don't
match, edit the MAC address until it does...

2005-12-10 Thread bflatmajor

Martin,

I know I can't help you but maybe you can help me. I too have the same
issue as you and I've logged it as a bug.

http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2529

It's slated to be fixed in 6.5 Whenever that is released.

My question to you is; What version did you upgrade from?

I want to go back to the version that I know worked.

Thanks,

B

[slim] Re: Switch on and off my server with the SB

2005-12-10 Thread radish

It's talking about _memory_ fragmentation not disk fragmentation. It
happens over time, there's nothing you can do about it (and normally it
doesn't matter). Like I said, it's a Windows bug, and there's no known
fix which works 100% of the time.

I'm still a little confused. You say you shut down the slimserver - do
you really mean that or do you mean you close your browser? If you shut
down the server then the SB has nothing to connect to

[slim] Special characters (accents, etc)

2005-12-10 Thread jhurley

I have two problems through the Squeezebox UI (not with Slimserver as
such) with special characters appearing in artist and album names as
well as track titles.

1. When browsing artists and scrolling through the list, when I reach
the first artist whose names contains a special character (the beloved
Björk) my Slim.EXE (running as a hidden application not a Windows
Service) just stops.

2. I discovered today that it does the same thing when coming to a
track name in a playlist containing accented characters. I was happily
playing a double various artists album through 2 SB1's sync'd and each
time the track "La poupée qui fait non" got cued up the slim
application on my PC just stopped again.

I posted seperately once before on the beta forum about this (as I'm
running 6.5b1) and saw the log entries generated on the failure which
were only produced by my iTunesUpdate plugin - a quick dialog with
James Craig identifying that he could fix those messages but not the
main failure.

Do I need to do something special to get my setup to manage
special/accented characters?

Try enabling the buffer display on the player in player settings. This

[slim] Choosing a different slimserver

2005-12-10 Thread Jim Dibb
So, I've got an SB1.  I just added a second slimserver to my network in anticipation of switching from the old one to the new one, but at the moment I have two.

How do I get the SB1 to give me the option of selecting a new one?  If I get into the setup, it will show me that it's connected to the old one, but doesn't seem to offer an option to select a different one.  I can change DHCP or static but that seems like all I can do?  Do I have to go through the steps of changing one of these to get to the screen where I can select a server?

One server is 5.4 based, the new one is the lates 6.1.x if it matters.
Thanks.

This is possible if you use ReplayGain on the FLAC files. You have to
set SS to use the track gain (not album gain) value to get the equal
volume on randomised tracks...

[slim] Please Please help! Connecting to Squeezenetwork too long

2005-12-10 Thread WladiSGE

Hi, I have some troubles with my squeezebox.

After I tried some up/downgrading today (Ver28 to 15 and 15 to 28, I
tried to downgrade to 26) my squeezebox is making troubles. I've also
tried a reset (with 1 after disconnecting , rewriting xilinx)

The troubles are:

1.connecting to squeezenetwork takes over 2 minutes...
2. Some radio stations are not working properly, they reconnect all the
time although they're running perfect on my computer.

Is there a possibility to make full reset, so that the squeezebox has
firmware 26, and no data, like when I've turned it on the first time.
Or is there another possibility for me?

Thank you

[slim] Re: My "SB3 wireless" only works with wired ethernet

2005-12-10 Thread mcremer

1. Yes, I did the factory reset several times and
2. no, a possible confusion of MAC addresses should not have had
anything to do with the whole thing, as I already had switched off the
MAC control completely in order to avoid any possible problem source.

As I felt the issue might have something to do with the router from
Deutsche Telekom (although the so-said "technicallly identical" SB
Version 2 has been working fine with it for months now), I purchased a
brand new Netgear router model "DG834GB W-LAN" -- after all this
trouble I was ready to pay another 75 Euros to make the SB3s work at
last. So the setup for today's SB3 laboratory was:

- New wireless router, factory setting (DHCP on, visible SSID a.s.o.)
- New SB3 wireless reset to factory setting, configured for wireless
and to get its IP via DHCP, placed right beside the router

And guess what: NO, nothing changed. Still, the SB3 does not connect to
the wireless network, although it recognizes the WLAN (shows up in the
list of avalable networks) and the signal strength is phantastic.

Seems like I should have ordered two SBs version 2 instead -- which
apparently would have saved me 100 Dollars for the boxes, 75 Euros for
the router and lots of time...

M.

Re: [slim] Please Please help! Connecting to Squeezenetwork too long

2005-12-10 Thread Michael Herger

1.connecting to squeezenetwork takes over 2 minutes...

Please verify DNS settings in your player. I had a similar issue when I
set my router as DNS - it would not connect (well, I never waited two
minutes :-)). Once I put my provider's DNS in the settings, SQN worked
fine.

2. Some radio stations are not working properly, they reconnect all the
time although they're running perfect on my computer.

Do you experience this problem with radio stations only? What happens when
you play local files?

Is there a possibility to make full reset, so that the squeezebox has
firmware 26, and no data, like when I've turned it on the first time.

Firmware are slimserver specific: if you install a version that contained
firmware 26, your firmware will be up/downgraded. IMHO there's no backup
in the device that you could restore.

Then you can hit ADD while powering up the box to start with factory
defaults.

assuming by the lack of replies that on-the-fly playlist additions are
just not possible. I find creating premeditated playlists too time
consuming and frankly too frustratingly slow in SlimServer. Anyone know
of any other alternatives? Perhaps this is a possibility in the
MoodLogic support? They do, however, state that Moodlogic can only cope
with 10,000 tracks. I have 15,000, so would I have to lose a third of my
collection. How does it choose?

[slim] Enhancement request: Full support for iTunes Dynamic playlists

2005-12-10 Thread eschurr

Would be very cool if Slimserver could write back to the iTunes database
everytime it played a song so that Slimsever could use the "last played"
feature in iTunes playlists.

Here's the scenario: you have lots of songs in a playlist, where the
order is unimportant (shuffle by song). You'd like to build a playlist
in iTunes that says something like:

"Select IF** selects songs for the list
AND LAST PLAYED IS NOT IN THE LAST Y days"

This would dynamically select songs for a playlist based on conditionX
but would also limit the list to just those songs that were only played
more than Y days ago. This would let you shuffle songs but ensure you
don't listen to the same song in a period of time (say 30 days)

i've been using by SB for over two years and i think it's the greatest.
just looking to make the best even better.

Ok, so thinking about this a bit... Given that you can power an SB on
or off from the web server and that screensavers like date/time that
can be run when the SB is "OFF" are implemented by the server, I'd say
it's a pretty good bet that the player stays connected to both the
network and the server when it's off.

When I've read "standby" mode here in these forums I'm guessing that it
could mean that either the player is OFF, or else it's ON but not
playing music.

The issue is NOT that it's getting to warm, but that these particular

Hi guys,
In fact, I think you've followed everything through the utmost
conclusion - you can't change what appears in the LH pane. But you
can just hit alt-T (I think) to get the tags window up, and
double-click the tag you want to change.

Hi Michael, thank you for your help but also after factory reset
Squeezebox is very slow :(
1. No, connect still works, but it takes a lot of time. Sometimes 30
sec, sometimes a minute or two.
And my squeezebox is very slow now. If I turn it off, "to the time
screensaver" in squeezenetwork, it lasts about 10-15 seconds till it I
can turn it on again. Also RSS-Feeds stop very often.

2. Not all radio stations, some of them. local files work fine as I can
see it.Maybe Squeezenetwork is just slow today.

And another question: What slimserver version contained firmware 26?
6.1.1 contained 15. 6.2.1 and 6.2.2 as I saw today 28.

2005-12-10 Thread cbast

Hi EliTom,

I installed and 'unslung' a NSLU2.
I also did the "speed upgrade"
().
My experience is that the system is too slow for use with SlimServer.
The problem is not the CPU, but the memory.
Slimserver uses more memory then the standard NSLU2 contains, so it is
constantly swapping to/from the USB disk.
I advice you, to only use a NSLU2 (for slimserver purpose) if you are
good with the soldering iron and dare to add more memory to the box
().

[slim] SBM (Squeezebox Mobile)?

2005-12-10 Thread Daryle Tilroe

I was just contemplating this today (and feel free to point me to any
previous discussion on something similar). There might be a niche
market for what I might call the Squeezebox Mobile.

I envision a stripped down player, similar functionally to the the
original Slimp3 (perhaps not even with wireless if that means you
cannot operate it off battery for a reasonable amount of time).
Basically what I want is an MP3 only device that would be designed to
allow me to put it in my pocket and then jack in anywhere in the world
and access my tunes. I could use a headphone or plug it into a friends
stereo and play DJ. Anywhere there is a network connection I could
access my entire music collection.

Now this would probably be a niche device because it requires the
smarts to setup a server and router and dynamic dns access to it but I
would drop some money on this so I would not have to have a full blown
PC and Softsqueeze to do the same (what I do now). Markets would
include business travellers, kids going to parties and wanting to share
tunes, people at work, etc.

Thoughts?

[slim] SB3 and Netgear WGU624 Router

2005-12-10 Thread scan80269

I'd like to report some persistent trouble with getting a Squeezebox3
set up with a Netgear WGU624 double 108Mbps wireless router.

SB3 is able to see my home network based on the WGU624, but when the
SB3 requests an IP address after connecting to the network, it always
gets assigned an IP address in the range of 169.254.xxx.yyy, after
which SB3 fails to connect to my SlimServer PC or to SqueezeNetwork.
Switching from DHCP to static IP setting also does not work. I have
tried varying the 11g settings on the WGU624 (11g only, auto108Mbps,
etc.) to no avail.

Next, I switched to a LinkSys WRT55AG v2 router, reset the SB3 to
factory defaults, went through the setup again and everything started
working. I suspect the key difference is that with the WRT55AG, SB3
will pick up an IP address within the expected range, i.e.
192.168.1.xxx, and SB3 can talk to both a SlimServer PC or to
SqueezeNetwork.

Since different router brands yielded different results with the same
SB3, I currently assume there may be something wrong with the Netgear
WGU624, specifically with its DHCP server on the LAN side. Both the
WGU624 and WRT55AG were set up with identical 128-bit WEP keys. I do
plan to contact Netgear support to bring up this issue, and I do have
access to even more router models to experiment with, but meanwhile I
have some questions:

1. What wireless network device name does SB3 use? In other words, if
I display the DHCP client table on the wireless router, what should I
see as the device name for SB3? Also, is the SB3 device name
user-controllable?

2. Is SB3 based on the same Atheros 11g radio as SB2? If so, is there
any chance SB3 can be firmware upgraded to support Atheros Super-G
(108Mbps)? I suppose the answer will depend on whether the SB3 11g
radio hardware is Super-G capable in the first place.

Thanks!

2005-12-10 Thread newton

I should probably start a different thread but...

I got the used SB1 and set it up. So far, I am pretty excited about the
whole thing.

Before getting the SB1, about the only thing I have done with digital
music is rip CD's to MP3's for use on portable devices. I have been
using WinAmp and iTunes, 192 bit encoding.

I have looked around at the forums a little, but I am trying to decide
if I should start re-ripping my CD's for the SB1 at 320 bit or FLAC and
use transcoding. I will try to find out more about encoding - VRB or CRB
if I use MP3 format instead of FLAC, or if FLAC to MP3 transcoding to
the SB1 is better.

As a rookie, I would welcome any suggests or pointers (other than "Get
an SB3". That will have to wait awhile!)

Use FLAC and forget all the VBR/CRB bull.
Never touch your CDs again.

Assuming you have a decent server and network connection,
the server Flac to WAV decompression is what you want.
I use it and love it.

I agree - if one is using good quality audio gear, FLAC is the way to
go. I'm not sure, however, how CPU intensive the "on the fly" FLAC to
WAV conversion necessitated by Squeezebox 1 is. I never tried it

FLAC is designed to be easy to decompress.
It is much slower to compress than decompress
and much slower to compress than MP3.

I ran for ages, 18 months or so on a P3-500
and it was fine.

It is decompressed by a microcontroller in the SB2 and SB3

I've got a box of TI MSP430 F1612 microcontrollers
in the basement. They are very low powered.
Might be tempted to look into a FLAC implementation
for it. Its got a D-to-A convertor :-)

YMMV and all that.

wild guess..

Let's see, I was running 6.2.2 I've only had the SB2 for about 2-3
months. Normally major software revisions, where the first number
changes, doesn't happen that frequently. So, from that I decided to
stay in the 6.#.# series.

I then decided to go to the beginning of the 6.#.# series and work my
way forward. The first one to try is 6.0.2. And that one works.

So I'm wondering if I should goto 6.1.1. 6.0.2 is kinda
flaky/unstable.

Give it a try, you can always upgrade back to where you were one
version at a time.

[slim] Two CDs, Same Title, Problem?

2005-12-10 Thread scbash

Everyone-

I ran into a problem today when I loaded my fiancee's Christmas CDs
into SlimServer. She has two "A Christmas Album" CDs (Amy Grant and
Barbra Streisand), but SlimServer seems to combine these two CDs into a
single album in the web interface. Has anyone else run into this
problem? And is there a known work-around? And for my own curiosity,
is this issue in the database or in how SlimServer handles query
returns?

Thanks!

Stephen

esd and artsd are both network transparent, which would get all your
*nix boxes playing on one sound card.

[slim] Re: Anyone else seeing evidence of a memory leak?

2005-12-10 Thread JJZolx

The livelog setting of 0 had no effect - the service still continually
grew and grew in size. Tonight I finally got around to testing with
all debugging turned off and the SlimServer service now never grows
past about 59MB. So, I can only conclude that it's something in the
debugging code.

Wouldn't surprise me if few others ever saw the problem. I doubt that
many people run SlimServer on a daily basis with debugging turned on,
with the exception of developers. Developers, though, are probably
starting and stopping the service so often that it never has a chance
to grow much.

6.1.1 isn't wonderfully stable either, I'd go for 6.1.2 - I ran that for
a while with no problems.

Maybe I'll take the opposite approach and work my way backwards,
starting with 6.2.0.

I'll report back on how I get on.

[slim] Re: Enhancement request: Full support for iTunes Dynamic playlists

2005-12-10 Thread radish

There are two itunes related plugins, the regular itunes plugin which is
included as standard and provides the read functionality (import tunes &
playlists), and the itunes update plugin which is 3rd party and you need
to download & install.

You can find it (and all the other plugins) here:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?SlimServerPlugins (look in the
Audio section).

[slim] Re: SBM (Squeezebox Mobile)?

2005-12-10 Thread Grahame

I can confirm the included audio player on the Nokia 770 can handle
streaming MP3's from slimserver over its built in 802.11g WiFi.

(Slimserver transcodes from stored flacs to mp3 in my case - slimserver
allows you to set the bitrate the mp3's are streamed at;
320Kps sounds very acceptable :) )

It's built in browser - together with the handheld skin make it a very
nice (albeit expensive) remote control.

Issues for the real world, are secure remote access to your slimserver,
and latency / bandwidth issues for access.

The open nature / features of the slimserver "platform" make things
like this possible.

The 770 at the moment doesn't have a Java VM - so no softsqueeze,
although given the open/documented protocol, it may be possible to
write a native squeeze client for the 770 using the maemo SDK.

The question is, what would it give you, over the capabilities of audio
playback, controlled by a web interface via the 770's small form factor
- but high-ish (800x480) resolution touch screen?

I ought to upload a screen capture util so you can see for yourself.
