I'm seeing permission issues in our corporate network on a regular basis. But this won't help you. You should try to run a scan with a d_scan and d_info turned on. This should spit out a list of what's going on with your files - which can be a huge list. But it might have some indicators to why it's failing on some files. And with your number of files - can you really be sure there's no such thing as a playlist, cuesheet, shortcut or anything. Could you please doublecheck, just to be sure? > The files are wither there or they aren't. The bug / fault must lie in > the software? As always. Point slimserver just at this test directory - it means you can do a full rescan as often as you like without having to wait around. First, how many flac files are there, really? Use the Find function of Windows explorer to get a definitive answer. Look to see if there are some files in that Beethoven directory which have a different extension than .flac Next, have a look in the tags: you say they are "proper" but there is a good chance that there is something wrong. Load up the entire directory into mp3tag and sort the tracks in various ways, looking for inconsistencies. Make sure you are looking at ALL the tags, not just the ones that show up in the default columns. (right click a group tracks, select "Tags"). The version of slimserver you're using shouldn't, AFAIK, be suffering from the "COMPOSER" bug but since you mention this is only happening for classical music I guess its possible... if you have COMPOSER tags, rename them to something else using mp3tag. If none of that leads to any bright ideas then post back here with a full listing of the tag set for a sample track... [slim] SB Doesn't Connect to Secure Wireless Net
I have a SB which I've used on a secure (128-bit WEP) wireless network for many years. I recently moved and in setting up the SB in my new location, I find that I cannot get it to connect to my wireless network if the network has a 64 or 128 bit key. It connects fine if I remove the security from the network (and the SB setup) ... but ... for obvious reasons, I don't wish to do that. I originally thought it might be the new router (Actiontec M1424WR - connected to a Verizon FIOS feed) rather than the SB, but I connected my old router (Belkin FSD7230-4), with the same settings that worked fine in my old location, and it can't connect to that one either unless I turn off security. Any thoughts? When attempting to connect to the network, the connection process simply times out. Note that my other wireless devices (i.e. laptops) connect fine to either router. Is there any way on the SB to re-initialize any firmware? I've been playing around with KDF's Bookmark plugin and he uses Slim::Player::Source::gototime($client, $offset, 1); to implement this. This would be a handy feature for me for use with audio books. I end up with single mp3s 7 or more hours long and the standard slimserver ff and rw controls don't cut it in terms of trying to get back to a point, say 3 hours in, in a file. [slim] FLAC Test Results
I have had some trouble with music not showing up in my library after a rescan for changed music or a clear and rescan. I have even deleted the Cache directory and restarted SS. (Using Slimserver 6.5_v2007-06-30; EAC ripping to FLAC with the -V switch; proper tags.) So I tried two different testers...FLAC Tester and AudioTester. I get different results with each. For example, testing my Beethoven directory I get this: AudioTester 101 files; no errors FLAC Tester: 108 files; 66 errors; all errors are FLAC_FILE_DECODER_ALREADY_INITIALIZED. I rescan and some tracks are missing from the library. Can anybody explain this? Do the testers test compression integrity only, or also the tags? I only see this problem with classical rips, but why? This is driving me crazy to the point I am no longer using the SB3 for classical. Thanks for any and all help. Re: [slim] Airport Extreme and WEP - SB wrongly detects WPA2
Cool, I'll give that a try. I did manage to reveal the encryption selection page which has a side effect that allowed me to get it working. 1 - Select "Enter network name" 2 - The last network you connected to will be displayed. Change it (first character will do) so that the name is incorrect and then press the right arrow to go to the next page. 3 - You'll then be able to chose from 5 different encryption types. I selected "WEP 128 bit", then on the key entry page I pressed the left arrow to go back to the network selection. 4 - Select "Enter network name" and then fix the network name you previously altered. 5 - The next page then says "Enter WEP key" 6 - Enter the key and it works. I don't know why it works but it does. However, I think I'll follow the procedure in that bug as it seems more solid :) Thanks -- NeilB NeilB's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2375 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36554 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Connection to bridged box lost after WPA2 group key renewal
I have a really strange problem whereby I can't get to my Slimserver box over the WLAN after the WPA2 group key renewal period is up. Slimserver runs on a Debian box, which uses my SB2 as a bridge onto my WLAN, and I usually access the Slimserver web interface from my main PC (which has a wired connection into my router). 1. SS->SB2->WLAN->Router->internet and SS->SB2->WLAN->Router->PC is always OK 2. The SB2 disappears from the Wireless clients list after the WPA2 group key renewal period and PC->Router->WLAN->SB2->SS stops working 3. restarting the router or re-entering the Wireless setup through the SB2 remote control restores the connection Slimserver box IP is 192.168.1.3 (static) SB2 IP is 192.168.1.100+ (dynamic) but I recently changed it from 192.168.1.4 (static) to see if that helped (which it didn't) IP address of my PC is 192.168.1.2 Router IP is 192.168.1.1 I recently changed my router from a USRobotics 9106 (which only supported WPA) to a Linksys WAG200G (which supports WPA2) - however the problem persists. Anyone got any ideas what's going wrong here? Re: [slim] Nokia 770/Slim Server Skin
I've had good luck running the svn code on linux lately. Since you already have slimserver installed, you ought to be able to install and run the 6.5x branch pretty easily. This will give you all the latest cool stuff in the 770 skin. Log in as root. Perform these steps: Code: service slimserver stop mkdir /usr/local/slimserver65 svn co http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/slim/branches/6.5/ /usr/local/slimserver65 chown -R slimserver:slimserver /usr/local/slimserver65 cp /etc/slimserver.conf /etc/slimserver.conf.org cp /etc/sysconfig/slimserver /etc/sysconfig/slimserver.org Now edit the /etc/sysconfig/slimserver file so that it reads: Code: # Edit this to suit your setup SLIMSERVER_USER="slimserver" SLIMSERVER_HOME="/usr/local/slimserver65/server" SLIMSERVER_CFG="/etc/slimserver.conf" SLIMSERVER_LOG="/var/log/slimserver" SLIMSERVER_ARGS="--daemon --prefsfile=$SLIMSERVER_CFG --logdir=$SLIMSERVER_LOG" Also, edit your /etc/slimserver.conf file and replace any references to "/usr/local/slimserver" with "/usr/local/slimserver65". Now, when you execute a "service slimserver start" you should be running the 6.5x branch code. You'll need to reconfigure all your settings and rescan your music library, of course. Any time you want to "freshen up" the 6.5x code with the latest svn, do the following: Code: service slimserver stop svn up /usr/local/slimserver65 chown -R slimserver:slimserver /usr/local/slimserver65 service slimserver start To my mind, that is the real advantage of using the svn code: the ability to apply any slimserver bug fixes and new features with a couple of commands that can be put in a shell script. If you don't like what you see with this 6.5x code, you can go back to your original setup by simply doing this: Code: service slimserver stop cp /etc/sysconfig/slimserver.org /etc/sysconfig/slimserver cp /etc/slimserver.conf.org /etc/slimserver.conf service slimserver start Caveat: I've really only run slimserver on Fedora, and really only with the trunk code, not the 65 branch, so I don't know if any of these details will need to change if you use a different distro. I suppose, also, that you may have to update your version of perl and run /usr/local/slimserver65/server/Bin/build-perl-modules.pl to get the latest perl packages for the 6.5x code. -- gharris999 gharris999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=115 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36560 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Nokia 770/Slim Server Skin
I recently picked up the Nokia 770. I have an old SlimServer set up on Linux that I never bothered to upgrade - don't shoot me. ;-) If it ain't broke don't fix it, right? I think the slim server version I have is 6.2.1. How can I install the latest Nokia 770 skin in this version of Slim Server? Also, I have a Palm LifeDrive that has a 320x480 screen resolution. Has anyone experimented with using this to control slim server? Screen to small? What would be the best skin to use? Any hints, tips or pointers to additional info greatly apprec. Well the screen size/etc are similar to that of a Nokia 770 (4.1 vs 3.5). I find the 770 useful but the browser crashes a lot and I usually don't have it powered up or in arms reach so it ends up not being used that often. With the iPhone it'll automatically connect to wifi and always be on and nearby so I think I'd get a lot more use of it with SlimServer. I played with the iPhone in a store and the browser seemed pretty slick and handled zooming/scrolling very well. Unfortunately the Apple store I went to had ran out of 8GB models 5minutes before I got there. I could have easily picked one up over the weekend but I wanted to wait on reviews before buying. Sure it's an expensive toy, but combining my phone and ipod into one saves me from lugging/charging two devices (and chargers) everywhere and web browsing would come in handy at times and have the added bonus as a SB remote... -Greg -- GoCubs GoCubs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=312 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36438 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Mass Album Art update suggestions
I don't have a separate folder for each album, largely because I often only include 1 or 2 tracks from each album. This is often because when I catalog a "greatest hits" or "best of" CD, I list each track as being from the original album and year of release. This makes the ultimate sense to me, because when I browse by Year, I want to hear music that was released in that year. Anyway, this leads to a couple of problems. cover.jpg doesn't work in a folder that includes tracks from many albums. So I embed the cover art in each file. Also, many greatest hits CDs and box sets include tracks from albums that were never released on CD. And some box sets include tracks that were never even released on LP, just on 45 RPM singles. Some early blues and jazz were only released on 78 RPM platters. And I have some old radio shows that were never released in ANY format! So it's sometimes hard to find album art. Google Images has been a great source for finding obscure cover art. Wikipedia has also been helpful for researching complete discographies of older artists. In some instances I've ended up creating my own cover art, using a photograph of the performer. And in one instance I end up using a screen capture from a video on YouTube: The Honeybees singing the 1966 classic "You Need Us": +---+ |Filename: honeybees.jpg| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3022| +---+ -- Pale Blue Ego Pale Blue Ego's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=110 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25971 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Real-time streaming?
If your netBSD has a sound card and you are feeding the FM through a "line input" - then if Alsa or OSS is supported on the sound card, the you should be able to use something like arecord to get a WAV stream which in turn can be converted into Flac. This would require a small plugin similar to http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18904 Alternatively some used have used Darkice / icecast on a sound card "line-in" to make a "broadcast" stream and then slimserver tunes into it. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36553 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Mass Album Art update suggestions
Zanash, No. You call the artwork one of a variety of generic names (such as folder.jpg) and Slimserver will recognise it. I forget the full list but if you go to "server settings" in Slimserver and then select "interface", scroll down and you will see a section on it. This section also allows you to specify a specific name you might prefer. You then need to rescan and once Slimserver picks up the artwork you will have an option to "browse by artwork" as well. Be interested to know if you are able to see thumb sized artwork when you "browse by artwork" or (like me) just the full sized versions when you click on to an album.
