Re: [slim] SS Path for multiple external usb HDD
This is one way to do it. Creat a folder on your main drive (you could use the existing My Music folder in My Documents if you liked) and then place shortcuts in it to all the plcaes you music is held. If you have music on two other drives, put in two shortcuts dirctly to those drives. You can create shortcuts by right clicking in your new folder and selecting New/Shortcut from the resulting drop down menu. Point SlimCentre at your new folder (or My Music Folder, if you used the one that already existef)) Another way to do it is to create a shortcut directly in your first music drive to the second music drive. [slim] Low footprint integrated headless player required
Hello, In my quest for true whole-house audio it's struck me that I need a Windows-based low footprint player, integrated with SlimCenter, that does not show on my PC (is this headless?). I only need to control it via the SlimCenter web interface and the jive controller. Softsqueeze appears no good (large java footprint) and no headless capability. Squeezeslave seems to be almost there but the latest version on Sourceforge (0.7.4.2: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=105169) is not integrated with SlimServer, opens up a dos box when run and does not run as a windows service (so requires me to be logged on at the PC for it to run). If I could work out how to run Squeezeslave as a Windows Service and this meant that the dos box did not open it would be fine. You can run squeezeslave.exe as a service on Windows. I do this on my work PC. First, you'll need the Windows Resource Kit Tools for XP/Win2k3. Download it 'here' (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9D467A69-57FF-4AE7-96EE-B18C4790CFFDdisplaylang=en). (Despite the page heading, these tools are for XP as well as Windows Server 2003. Verify this by looking on the page under Sytem Requirements.) Install the Resource Kit Tools on the server. You only need two of the tools, so after intalling the kit you can, if you like, safely delete everything except: instsrv.exe srvany.exe Then from a command prompt install the service using: Code: instsrv Squeezeslave C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\srvany.exe Then run regedit to edit the service entry in the registry. Start Run enter 'regedit'. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Squeezeslave Right-click 'Squeezeslave' and select New Key. Name it 'Parameters'. Right-click 'Parameters' and select New String. Name this 'Application'. Double-click 'Application' and set its value to the full path to squeezeslave.exe. On my system I have it at C:\Program Files\Squeezeslave\squeezeslave.exe Then create another New String in Parameters called 'AppParameters'. Set its value to the IP address of your SqueezeCenter server. This entry passes that address to squeezeslave.exe as a command-line argument. Then go to Start Settings Control Panel Administrative Tools Servics and find the Squeezeslave service. Double-click it and set its Startup type to Automatic. -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44771 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Getting album artwork from iTunes
Faucette: I think it is better to select all tracks of the album rather than just the first track. I tried your method (cut and paste art on first track only while using itunes) and, following rescan, the album art appeared but squeezecenter now considers the first track to be a different album than the rest. Probably GRC's method found in the thread linked by b33k34 is better: quote My personal experience is that artwork automatically downloaded by iTunes (I don't buy iTunes music - just use it to organise independently ripped / downloaded files) is the problem. If it shows up in iTunes but not in SC then a simple - albeit longwinded - ruse is to copy the album art image from the bottom-right pane; select all the tracks on the album and right-click (sorry Mac users) to select Clear Downloaded Artwork; then paste the copied image back against all the tracks. I understand this tags each track with the artwork which SC7 then sees. Do this gradually over a period of time, preferably with some nice toons playing and a glass of red wine to hand. end of quote -- grego.speiser grego.speiser's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11844 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44755 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

The fix, I was told, is to use the Lavry in wide mode. Now I am not an engineer, but this seems reasonable. Any insight from other more technical oriented people - is this possible? and is it the SB3 not being consistent enough? Has anyone else experienced this? If so, other fix suggestions? I figured I would post a follow up to this as it may help others - After testing many wires and talking with Lavry as well as what is above in the forum - in a last ditch effort I returned the DAC to Lavry - they did some extensive testing and were not able to duplicate the issue - until!! an engineer who was using the DAC constantly - built up static electricity by accident and touched the DA-10 - it paused/dropped the signal - it turns out that the unit was very sensitive to static electricity! - they changed the power supply and something else at NO Charge - and sent it back to me- no issue since - I have also been using a anti -static electricity spray - Thank you all for the help -- j.wales j.wales's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4569 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40289 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] SqueezeCenter 7.0 extremely slow
For what it's worth, I too had trouble with SqueezeCenter running SLOWLY. I dl-d and installed twice yesterday and finally went back to SlimServer 6.54 which works fine. [I've never posted here so I don't know exactly what technical information is useful, so I'll just list the basics on my setup] I am using a VelocityMicro PCX with dual 2.4ghz processors, 2gb of RAM., XP Professional, and Firefox. I have around 5,000 cds, the majority of which are in FLAC, spread out over (5) Harddrives (4 internal [3-Seagate, 1-Western Digital] and (1) external [Western Digital, USB]) with a total of 2.6tb of storage space. I've read that some people are having trouble with the initial library scan. That wasn't a problem for me, the scan seemed to take roughly the same as it used to using 6.54. Subsequent scans, however, were slow and they didn't seem to be going anywhere. But the biggest problem for me was that Squeezecenter was so slow loading. As I said, I downloaded and installed twice, but I also rebooted a couple of extra times to see if that would help. Each time I did, SqueezeCenter took a long time--much longer than SlimServer--to start. This isn't a huge problem, but it was annoying enough for me to switch back to 6.54. I didn't notice any problems with my SB3, but I didn't mess around with it too much. So, for now I am sticking with 6.54 and waiting for the bugs to be fixed. I really liked the look of SqueezeCenter and I look forward to trying it again in the future... -- Clio Clio's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16078 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44486 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Problems Keeping SBC Connected via wireless
Ive been having a lot of problems getting my SBC to STAY connnected to my Wifi network. SBC=Squeezebox controller SBR=Squeezebox receiver Here is my original setup: 1 SBC 1 SBR Squeezecenter 7.0 on a Windows XP computer with Windows Firewall ON and ports opened specifically for squeezecenter. F-secure anti-virus on with its built in firewall turned OFF. WRT54GX2 wireless G linksys wireless router with WPA-TKIP/AES turned on, no mac filtering or other special security turned on. What works: I can very reliably control the SBR with Squeezecenter. Music plays perfectly with no skipping I can set up the SBC and SBR over and over successfully, everything connects properly and succeeds. Light on SBR always indicates good connection to both music source and wifi What doesnt work: Immediately after the setup sequence after factory reset of the SBC, the SBC works reliably and can control the SBR well and the SBR plays music perfectly. Sometime between 1 and 5 minutes after setup the SBR starts having connection problems with the network/music source. The SBR continues to play music perfectly. The SBC starts showing 'blue' on the wireless strength meter and i get the 'try again' and 'choose music source' options with the message that the 'squeezebox is having problems connecting to the network. Again, the SBR continues to play music perfectly according to the last command given it by the SBC. I have plenty of signal strength on the SBC and the distance from the wireless router does not matter, i have tried setting everything up in one room and see the same problem. I have setup my unit in 'bridged mode' with everything in the same room and it works perfectly, but i dont want to run it in this mode, so i went back and re-set everything up in full wireless mode. After re-setting everything up again, I started looking at the network information on the SBC under settingswireless networks(my network name) to try to see if it was network connection problems. turns out that about every minute or so the IP address field turns to 'nil' and the status reads 'connecting'. This symptom was occurring with everything in the same room (SBC, SBR, and wireless router). This definitely pointed to the wireless connection as the problem. I then took a shot in the dark and disabled wireless security completely on the wireless router and did a factory reset again, going through the setup process successfully. After doing this, everything was working perfectly while the SBC was in the same room with everything else. Then i moved the SBC a couple of rooms away from the SBR and router (about 30 feet) and things are STILL working perfectly. Im going to continue to experiment with the security to see if maybe my security type is the issue or if my security key is too long for the SBC for some reason. My key was as long as you can use for WPA personal. I so want this thing to just work. It is a fantastic product and i cant wait to get 'settled in' with it. I hope someone can comment/help, or that this helps someone else out there having a problem. -- poulsen11 poulsen11's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15935 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44794 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] persistent web client possible?
Hi I've searched around but haven't found any answers to this. I'm streaming SC to a WM6 phone using the web interface and gsplayer. (praying that the 2 folks working on c# clients have a compiled version soon.) The problem I am having is that every time I reconnect with gsplayer I have to recreate the play list and hit play again etc.. in the web interface. SC must delete the current playlist for players when its looses contact. I know my phones IP changes often but the prefix is always the same and it always shows gsplayer in the players name in the drop down list. I'm wondering if it is possible to hardcode a player in SC, possibly with a regex or wild cards so that SC keeps the playlist (and stream?) alive even when the player disconnects and make it persistent so when I reconnect I just have to connect to /stream.mp3. The idea is that after some period of time and even is my clients IP has changed, when it reconnects, SC would see the gsplayer string or IP prefix (via regex) in the web player name and start playing so I do not have to go into the web UI and pick music and press play everytime I connect. Kind of like my own radio station. I'm sure I could do this with shoutcast etc.. but I'd like to stay with SC if possible. Any and all ideas welcome I'd also beta test for a WM6 client if anyone is interested. I'm not sure how much time I'd have to contribute, but I'll give it a try. This is probably a good time to mention that there are currently quite a few pages with outdated or simply incorrect information, especially now that SC7 is here. If an overall review process is going to take place, this might be good time to also do some triage and identify pages that need to be updated or removed. Maybe pages could be tagged as possibly outdated and then a list published looking for volunteers to correct/rewrite them. I assume that mediawiki has a watch capability. Of course, it is capable of running SoftSqueeze as is... it's just that it is entirely unnecessary for me to do that and it'll get in the way. I think the confusion comes from my use of the word headless. I was referring to using Softsqueeze in headless mode (See title headless player). I was hoping that this meant using it without any sort of graphical interface (and my doubt is illustrated by the way I phrased it as a question in the post). Sorry it wasn't clear. BTW. I now prefer to use Windows intergrated remote desktop (Terminal Server as was) in preference to VNC. That's it, I think we got confused about the headless issue. Re: [slim] I'm an idiot (or at least clumsy)
LOL, have done this myself a few times till I learned not to. I usually go to the music computer and just restart it. Yes this is a very big pain, especially with 60Gb of music. I personally use the Music Folder option to play music due to the fact that my sons have their own folder and their music tags are not as neat as they should be and the constant changing of their music, therefore creating havoc in the database searching features Haven't done it for a while, but you are right, at a gathering someone might think this would be a cool idea. I am hoping that a future enhancements in the software would be to be able to customize the menus as we can in the SB3. This would allow us to remove items that we do not use (ie: internet radio subscriptions, and play all), and remove items that an unsuspecting newbie could screw up (ie: have you ever had a friend get hold of you mp3 or phone and change the language or security settings) I have search the bug database and cannot find a request of this type, but from the chatter on the forums, would assume the Slim boys are looking at this for say SC7.1. (you do deserve a vacation first ;-) Any feedback on this subject or possibly a link to proposed enhancements in SC would be appreciated Cheers -- ebin ebin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8097 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44808 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Controlling Playlist Playback
Gosh, I'm stumped and am pretty sure I have an easy one for someone. Using SC 7 and can't figure out where I control the behavior of playback of a playlist. I've created a playlist. I load it up in any SB player, scroll down to one of the items in the playlist and click play. My goal is that it play the entire list from that point to the end. For example, a playlist of 10 selections. Start playing on track 3 and I want it to play 3-10. Instead, it plays only track 3 and stops. Must be simple, but I just don't see in SC 7 where that control is taking place. Tips? Woohoo. Information in the current Wiki is pretty good - usability is not. Sign me up. One small comment - I hope that the layout of the new Wiki won't be as constrained/shoehorned into the Slim Devices site layout, which works very poorly for the Wiki. My main issues with the current layout are - the huge left-hand nav column wastes a lot of page space - too small a font make reading difficult - lack of line-spacing makes reading _really_ difficult - the inability to flow to the browser width makes tables difficult to use -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44765 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Maybe pages could be tagged as possibly outdated and then a list published looking for volunteers to correct/rewrite them. I assume that mediawiki has a watch capability. Going forward, this would make it a lot easier for users to adopt certain pages and make sure incorrect information doesn't seep back in. I agree. This would be a great time to do clean-up on the wiki and bring it up-to-date. Re: [slim] squeezebox duet controller
I'm assuming that your Transporter is wired to the network. In which case a simple answer is to just get hold of a ethernet switch and wireless access point and site them with the Transporter. If you use the same wireless set-up SSID, encryption and keys as your main wireless then the controller would just attach to which ever AP is strongest. Note that the controller doesn't roam between APs but even a simple power down and up again would be enough to get it to switch if you take it upstairs and downstairs. You'd also have the advantage of being able to use a laptop down there as well. -- Zaragon Zaragon's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14577 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44707 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
