[slim] Order of playing ntracks in an album - by track numbers or title names ?
Hi ! I have three CDs ripped into MP3 each as a separate album, which I originally tagged so each title as well as file name starts with track number like 01 a1 02 b1 03 c1 etc Yesterday I used mp3tag to merge 3 albums into one album and then I renumerated the track numbers only (not titles and filenames) so now the desired order of playing (by the track number )is 01 a1 (from first album) 02 b1 (from first album) ... 10 x1 (from first album) 01 a2 (from second album) But when I go to album and hit play, SC7 is playing them in the order of TITLE NAMES like 01 a1 (from first album 01 a2 (from second album) 01 a3 (from third album . 03 c1 (from first album) 03 c2 (from second album) I think the order of playing tracks in a single albums should be by track numbers not title names - am I wrong ? [slim] transcoding on for some players only?
I know how to turn transcoding-at-the-server off (settings/advanced/file types/disable). But now I want transcoding on for one player (I've got softsqueeze set up on a PC at work) but not for the rest of my players. To test things, I'm running softsqueeze on a PC at home, playing a FLAC-encoded tune. Using the web-interface I -should- be able to, say, click the progress bar in the middle and have playback jump to that point. This doesn't work, which makes me think that, when I enabled transcoding for my player at work, I enabled it for all my players. I'm sure there's a setting somewhere to do this, but I can't find it, and would be really appreciative if someone would point it out to me. Thanks! Re: [slim] SBC major software update bug?
so here's an interesting observation... i don't know exactly how the SBC update works, but in an effort to resolve my "stuck" status, i downloaded and installed SC 7.0.1-18963.exe and after doing so, i WAS able to get the SBC updated, but to version r2287 NOT r2302. also interestingly, it says this, r2287, is the newest. i don't know how or when it will be notified of r2302, but its not currently aware of it. so presumably... the SC 963 release had the r2287 fw in it, and begs the question of whether my SBC would have gotten "unstuck" if it had r2302 instead. -- MrSinatra www.LION-Radio.org Using: Squeezebox2 (primary) / SBR (secondary) / Jive - w/SC 7.0.1beta - Win XP Pro SP2 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - D-Link DIR-655 MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46643 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] SBC major software update bug?
i have a SBC and i'm not sure what firmware it has, but its relatively recent. a day or two ago it wanted me to update to r2287 and i didn't do it at that time... so now, i go to use the SBC and it won't allow me to NOT attempt updating. thats the first bug imo, i shouldn't be forced to update if i don't want to. well, when i try to, it doesn't happen, probably because r2302 is now at the site. so thats the second bug, if you don't update "in time" you're stuck with a remote that won't update, and that won't look for or find a newer r version then the one it thinks you need to update to. at the same time i can't use it b/c i can't go anywhere but the update screen. so i think both those things need addressed, and i think it would be wise to be able to choose for the SBC to automatically update itself overnight. is anyone else seeing these issues? -- MrSinatra www.LION-Radio.org Using: Squeezebox2 (primary) / SBR (secondary) / Jive - w/SC 7.0.1beta - Win XP Pro SP2 - 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - D-Link DIR-655 MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46643 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

However, I am streaming music over the net. When I go to the Squeezebox information utility, the IP address being shown is the IP address assigned to the router and not a number that my router should have been assigning to a connect device. I'm also showing a signal strength of 90. When I go the wireless information page, the IP address shown is one generated by my router, but I still don't see it (I'm assuming the controller) as a connected device. I also show a SNR between 25 & 40. Interestingly, while I'm writing this, the controller showed the red icon. I then went to the wireless network option in advanced settings. You need to have a look at you router's dhcp range first (from it's admin pages) E.g. mine is 192.168.1.64 - 192.1.68.1.253 As long as you pick an address on the same subnet 192.168.1.x you will be fine. I picked 192.168.1.60 for example. x can be anything from 2 to 63. Avoid 0,1,254,255 as are special addresses and/or reserved usually. Note: if your subnet goes all the way from x.x.x.1 - x.x.x.254, and you are uncomfortable with altering the range just pick a number, say 200, that is unlikely ever to be allocated to a device by your dhcp server. Your internal address range might be different to mine (10.0.0.x is common) but the principle is the same. Just keep your chosen address on the same subnet (first three dotted number the same) Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs, I'm not sure of your networking knowledge. -- browellm browellm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14260 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45031 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Squeeze controller losing network connection
Firstly, apologies as I haven't read the *entire* thread. But I thought I would post my experiences of connectivity with the SB3. My router is a BT HomeHub (a very common router in the UK based on a Thomson/Alcatel box). I have WPA2 and manual channel selection running. My SC runs on my home pc, which is not run 24/7 and is therefore subject to normal daily power-downs. I had *very flaky* DHCP performance between the HomeHub and SB3, and had to regularly go back through guided setup to get the SB3 to renew it's lease (it would often be allocated a private address range 169.x on startup). Although it doesn't affect other wireless devices on my network (Wii, couple of laptops), I don't think the embedded DHCP server gives stellar performance. Hacked off with the constant loss of connectivity I shifted the SB3 to a static address outside of the HomeHub's DHCP range. Since then (about 2 weeks and counting), connectivity has been absolutely rock solid. I am sure many Duet owners have already tried the static address approach, but if not I urge you to give a try. -- browellm browellm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14260 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45031 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Squeeze controller losing network connection
I'm having some of the same Duet connection problems discussed in this thread. My set up is a little different than most in that I don't have a computer connected to my network most of the time (long story) and have been listing primarily to Pandora or Internet radio. Basically, my entire network consist only of a Netgear Rangemax WPNT834 router using WPA2. Connectivity with both the Duet and my laptop has gotten better doing the following things: 1. You picked a rather old thread to tag onto, and development work has past even SC 7.0 (it seems like 7.0.1 is about to be officially released soon), and you really haven't given any detail information to your exact problem. I'm certainly not an expert here, but it seems you either need to give much more information about your system, operating system, exact version of SC your having problems with, and anything else you can think of that one of the forum experts might need. That said, I would recommend that you download the latest version of 7.0.1 and see if/how it works for you. That's where the development team is working now, so they're more likely to pick it up. I am having the same problem that was laid out in the original post. Here's an overview: At the router: ZyXel PLA401 Homeplug Living Room: ZyXel PLA470 Homeplug switch Bedroom: ZyXel PLA401 Homeplug. The Squeezebox in the living room connects to the PLA470 without any problems. The Squeezebox in the bedroom cannot connect. The server and the Squeezebox are using static IP addresses. I've also tried connecting via DHCP but it times out (reports that it cannot fine DHCP server). I cannot connect to SqueezeNetwork either. I can connect to the internet using a laptop in the bedroom with the Powerline adapter (wireless turned off on the laptop). I'm getting by with wireless for the time being now that a firmware fix in the Squeezebox nightlies appears to have fixed the WPA2 issue I was having with my Actiontec router. Re: [slim] Using 2 wireless routers
Jim, Thanks for the reply. Your method actually seems to be more in line with what I am truly wanting to do, but didn't think was possible. I didn't think I could have two routers on the same network both serving as a router. I'm not a networking guy, myself, so I don't understand the in-depth knowledge of routers. I am wanting to use the 2wire device as little as absolutely possible (for obvious reasons). It's my understanding from your reply that your main computer (and any others) that would be hooked up to the LAN ports of the 2wire, in "normal" mode, are actually hooked up to the LAN ports on the Linksys. Is this accurate? This is how mine is now and I would love to keep it this way. I don't want to have multiple network segments and would like to have everything flow through and be controlled by the Linksys. 1. Does the Linksys remain enabled as a DHCP Server? 2. Does the 2wire assign an address to the Linksys once it detects it, or did you have to put it in manually in the Router IP field? 3. Does the Operating Mode of the Linksys remain enabled as a Gateway or be changed to Router since there are now two routers in the equation? Could you please take a look at the screenshots I've attached and let me know what the settings for the fields in the red boxes should be? I would imagine those fields are the main ones that either need to be changed or left alone. Thanks in advance for your help. I've been worried about my Squeezebox ever since I learned I would be getting a new router from Uverse, and not just a modem like I have with my current DSL. Anything I can do to make this thing to work ... right now its quite crappy... //G -- gheman gheman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17026 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45121 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

However, I am only using the EQ piece which is quite intuitive and works like a charm. In the case of the Audio Engine A2s which I was referring to ealier in this thread, I simply created a preset in Inguz which drops the bass slightly at the appropriate frequencies and, viola, no bass boom. I just leave this setting on all the time on the Squeezebox that works with the A2s. Hi, I could solve the problem by downloading another firmware from AVM (manufacturer of the Fritzbox) and a full rest of the router with a fresh setup. When you use a pre-release version of SC7 your controller will > start getting pre-release firmwares, and if you're not willing to put up > with breaks you shouldn't be using them. I don't think the actual problems here were due to my or anyone else's will. The fact that I'm willing to put up with breaks does not mean that I accept any dead-end updates as well. Fortunately this bug was quickly fixed. It is reasonable to require that the update functionality in the SB controller is a well-defined and limited peace of software that can be used with high reliability. After that is under QA, one can hail the rest of the bug parade just as much as one likes. Further, while all the stable, testing and unstable releases of the squeececenter are published online, one would expect that anyone can put any of those in use in a server without crapping the update function of one's controller device. I referred to some usability problems beyond this specific bug that may hit the average user and that are present in 7.0.0 too: i) unable to reject controller updates (due unawareness of the back button feature for instance, and in this kind of bug it would not have even helped everyone) ii) unable to consider the immediate need for the automated update (should I update a security fix before I let it run in the public internet or any open wlan connections, perhaps?) iii) what are the necessary actions that can be used to revert the controller back to a working version asap, and where to get the information which is the latest working version (assuming "the next" will not do if the device is unable to update itself) Some obvious remedies for i) and ii) are mostly human-computer-interface related: - add "Cancel" to the update menu - add release notes that can (must?) be read in the menu that include a clear catecory of each update, say critical, bug fix, added feature or support etc. - keep critical (such as security fixes) and other updates separate when possible (they may still be interdependent, though) I don't know improvement for the iii). I've been using the gadget for only 3 weeks now and I've read these fora and wikis for less times than my controller has updated itself :). I would have to investigate the sc server vs. controller revision dependency further to see what is it about. Before this case I assumed that the controller updates (i.e. the update feature alone, not the rest of user level functions) would not be affected by the choice of the server software revision. That was my mistake and lesson learned. In this case the controller update issue was professionally fixed at the origin of the fault and all is well now. The best solutions always start with facing the facts. -- penguin penguin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17003 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46509 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Problems after upgrading to SqueezeCenter 7
Hi, About a month or so, I upgraded from SlimServer 6.5.4 to the official SqueezeCenter 7.0. The update went fine and no apparent problems. Starting my SqueezeBox also went well and the firmware got updated. But the SB does really not respond well to remote commands from the IR controller. It is VERY slow - like 5 seconds for each press of a button. Furthermore I noticed occational freezings during start of the SB (not often but about 1-3 times a week). Well, about 5 days ago I decided to upgrade to the newest beta. Upgrade also went well, but I had a lot of problems getting the SB to update the FW. Pressing "brightness" didn't work - either no response from the SB or total freeze. Reading a few suggestions here I then set the SB to automatically update the FW - this helped. BUT using the beta versions didn't help on the slow IR Remote problems and the SB got a lot more unstable. Often freezing and today I didn't succeed in getting it to work. It boots fine and then displays "Now Playing" - it then freezes and I can't do anything. Restarted a few times with no change (both using wireless and ethernet). Well, I've not uninstalled SC and reinstalled SlimServer 6.5.4 - after the "downgrade" starting the SB again it apparently downgraded the firmware to 81 and everything is running as it should - eg. no freezes yet and a very responsive IR Remote :-) It would be great if anybody has some suggestions of what to do as I really liked the SC7 interface and functionality :-) I'm running this on a Windows 2008 64bit server - firewall has been changed appropriately (during the tests it was even disabled).
