The << >> buttons do not do anything, with a click or click-hold, in the
Default skin or Fishbone. The Previous/Next track skip buttons work as

It has gone! It was there. I have not reinstalled or anything... I
can't think what has happened (or what I could have done).
I'll attempt to find it and stick it back... then ask the questions
arising from your answers to my post above (if that's OK).

BTW. Although I have MusicIP installed headless I used the MixIP

It sounds like I am doing everything wrong.

Re: [slim] Controller doesn't reconnect to network after sleep - Please post your issues

2008-10-01 Thread Doc_D

I have been frustrated by these symptoms and I am glad that I found this
thread.

I have an incident open [Incident: 080916-002230]

I initially tried the receiver and remote connected wireless to my main
network via a Linksys WAP54G Wireless Access Point (Firmware 3.0.5)
Australian Wireless Chan 11. The DHCP is handled by a Windows 2000
server with reservations set for both Receiver and Controller. I had
just picked up a Dell Poweredge 2650 server for work so I installed
Windows 2003 server, joined it to my AD domain and ran SqueezeCenter on
that. In an attempt to increase reliability I ran a CAT5 to the Receiver
from a Netgear 24 port switch. No much changed. Installed The
SqueezeCentre App on a Windows XP workstation. No much changed, still
unreliable controller connections.

My Network's Gateway/Router is a Billion VGOM with Wireless (at the
other end of the house from the Linksys WAP) I tried moving the
Controller's connection to that connection (Australian Wireless Chan 1)
but no real change.

After creating the ticket with support and getting the typical
instructions on how to reset the Duet system, I moved the the
Squeezebox off of the main network completely and connected it to a
small network that I use for some hosting and VoIP stuff. This consists
of a Linksys WRT54GL running dd-wrt v24-sp1. With the exception of
listening to internet radio stations, Frankly its worse! The remote
still falls of the network giving me either Blue WiFi icon or after
waking up gives the endless life-ring of death 'Connecting to
Squeezebox' but now with the added frustration of songs stopping
part-way through.

I have submitted a log from squeezecentre (on the Poweredge) as a part
of the incident ticket. It has some networking issues.

Looking at this thread I am sure that with some effort it could be
easily reproduced.

If people are reporting that the problem might be worse with version
7.2. Where can we access older version?

Like others have stated, all wireless networking in my environment with
the exception of this latest addition, is very reliable. I don't believe
updating firmware on routers is the right tree to bark up.

Regards,

MD

Of course. Unfortunately that would be impossible without adding a
display and an IR remote, which would add significantly to the cost
(think SB3 + SBC).
I was personally amazed at how easy it was to setup my Duet when it came

[slim] Duet controller acting weird

My SB2's and SB3's are awesome and work great. Duet basically sucks.
Can't get both the controller and the receiver at the same time. My
receiver is working fine at the moment, I control it from the web GUI.
The Controller is not working, will not connect to my SqueezeCenter.
After a factory reset, the controller insists on seting up my player...
but why? Can't I set up my controller with out setting up a player too?
Basically, my controller is acting weird.. how do I get it back to work
normal?

Re: [slim] Squeezebox Controller static IP. How?

2008-10-01 Thread Anry

Ok. Shut down DHCP, did factory reset, assigned static IP address.
It definitely wakes up faster from the sleep.
Looked into /etc/network/interfaces and that is what in there:
iface myssid inet static
address 10.0.0.10
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 10.0.0.1
dns 10.0.0.1
up echo 'nameserver 10.0.0.1' > /etc/resolv.conf

And DHCP client isn't running anymore - more CPU resources to the wheel
and screen.
I'm satisfied!

Thanks everybody for help.

I know what you are talking about. My Duet arrived on a day that I
came home a little early from work to cut the grass. After spending an
hour and getting sucked into setting the Duet up, my wife starting
getting a bit upset telling me that "my stuff always comes first". :-).
It was after cutting the grass that I finally figured it out.

The duet is just by its nature more complicated to set up. A large
part of it is the fact that you are actually setting up 2 devices, not
just one. And, as you go through the setup for the first time, it
isn't really clear to you what you are setting up at any given point in
time. Having security on your squeezecenter complicates things
further.

Having gone through a factory reset as a troubleshooting step on my
controller recently, I can say that the setup procedure has improved
and worked much better.

That's right. The case & shape of the units is obviously different, but
the VFD and electronics are the same.** The SB3 screen is a different
color than the SB2 due to a different lens in front of the VFD, and the
SB3 screen is not as quite bright as the SB2 for the same reason.

** Newer SB3s have a slightly different, and theoretically slightly
better, Burr-Brown DAC than the SB2s and older SB3s. I think Sean said
that there was no audible difference, that the DAC "upgrade" was like
putting RAM in a computer that was rated for higher speeds than the
computer could use anyway.

I had an SB2 in the bedroom for several years, but when I got the Boom,
I passed the SB2 on to hubby for use in his workshop. That way he
couldn't say anything when I bought a Duet. ;-)

Never had an SB3, but I think the screen is the same size as SB2. It
tends to grab people's attention, even more so than the "coolness

Re: [slim] If I had bought the SB3 first....

2008-10-01 Thread MeSue

I was pretty nervous about setting up the Duet last week. I had company
staying here and didn't want to get drawn in to a big ordeal as these
things often tend to go. Anyway, I had to unplug and replug the
receiver after resetting it (purchased used) but other than that it all
set up without a hitch.

I am loving the Controller while cozied up in bed. I use it with the
Boom which is across the room and hard to see from in bed. It's nice
having a screen, though, even with the Controller.

2008-10-01 Thread Phil Meyer

You don't need to run archive analysis to add tags to the files.
Are you running MusicIP headless, or just get SqueezeCenter to connect to the
MusicIP GUI directly?
If headless, you need to reload the cache after using the MIP GUI to analyse
new music.

>I open Slimcenter web gui and Browse Music Folder to add the new music

I wouldn't depend on Browse Music Folder to add music to the database. That
doesn't do a full scan, I believe.

>The new music is still not MusicIP mixable (Question 1: why?)

I guess the MusicIP plugin is not called to do a scan when you browse music
folder. Without my patch, it would have refetched the whole MusicIP library
content and merged it into SC each time, if it were to perform the MusicIP scan
too.

>I then initiate a "Scan: Look for new and changed music only".

Why not do the new/changed files scan before browsing the library to add music
to a playlist?

Sounds like my modified MusicIP plugin has not been installed correctly, or you
have ticked the "Read Song Data" checkbox.

Thanks for the pointer. I disabled the "Wireless power Save" feature.
Now it seems to work o.k.

Question: Bug report 7153 was entered on February 14, the forum thread
is from March 20, the workaround from April 4.

Status for October 1:
Bug still open, no entry in the FAQ?
How can this happen?

The Zyxel routers are _very_ popular around here (Switzerland).

Sorry but how do you mean, "Once selected, SS/SC do treat the CUE file
as a playlist" - it's the "Once selected" part in particular I am not
clear about?
Also, when you say "you would have to add the CUE file to a playlist",
how would you go about this exactly?

Re: [slim] MusicIP - definitive install instructions for 7.1/7.2 (inc. headless)?

2008-10-01 Thread ModelCitizen

Even with Phil's MusicIP patch I am at a loss as to what is happening
(and why it takes so long). Any explanation would be very welcome.

Here's what happens:

I add new music to my library.
I open the MusicIP program and make sure it analyses the new music and
adds the MusicIP tags to the files..
I open Slimcenter web gui and Browse Music Folder to add the new music
to a playlist (i.e. to get it added to my SlimCenter database).

The new music is still not MusicIP mixable (Question 1: why?)

I then initiate a "Scan: Look for new and changed music only".

Music IP Import scans every single directory in my library. (Question
2: Why doesn't it just scan directories/files that have a changed
time/date?).

I'm just perplexed by the high maintenance that use of MusicIP seems to
incur.

Re: [slim] CUE files not being picked up & stored in playlists

2008-10-01 Thread ds2021

This could be an issue of "interpretation." Once selected, SS/SC do
treat the CUE file as a playlist. However, such files are not
automatically included in your list of playlists. I expect that this is
by design.

To achieve your goal, you would have to add the CUE file to a playlist
("+"). In doing so, you will create a playlist with all the individual
tracks of the file. You may then save that and will then find it
available under the "playlist" item in the various interfaces.

I would have been a much happier camper in the beginning :-)
Relative to the DUET, the Classic and the BOOM were an absolute joy to

If Logitech made the DUET set up similar to the rest of the line, they
would probably cut their tech support calls down significantly.

According to the slimdevices customer help page entitled "Using CUE
files with the Transporter and Sqeezebox", the question "Does the
Squeezebox or Transporter support CUE files?" is answered "Yes. CUE
files are interpreted as playlists containing a number of songs
corresponding to the tracks of an album." So from that, I would take it
that I should be seeing scanned CUE files as playlists, but that is not
the case for me.

This is just my old network engineering and security way of thinking -
less protocols on the network is better unless it is absolutely
necessary. Less processes (DHCP client) running on Controller is
better.

Re: [slim] Google Chrome new browser

Seems to be due to a bug in Chrome which is already fixed: I just
downloaded Iron (a browser based on Chrome, without the Google data
sniffing stuff) which uses a slightly newer version of Chrome's rendering
engine.

http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron_chrome_vs_iron.php

This does work just fine with SC and password protection. Either the newer
rendering engine or the removed sniffing features fixed Chrome ;-).

I'd assume a later Chrome version will be fine.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox Controller static IP. How?

2008-10-01 Thread bklaas

I'm fairly certain that your DHCP server will have to be shut down while
you set it up for static IP. After that, your controller (barring
factory reset) will not try to use DHCP if it's configured for static
IP.

Assumption #2, quicker wakeup from sleep, should be correct. Xclnt idea
at optimizing that...I know that wakeup time is a nit for a lot of
people (I get around it by always cradling mine).

Assumption #3 I don't believe holds a lot of water, unless you have
things configured so DHCP leases expire really frequently, which I
wouldn't recommend anyway.

cheers,

[slim] Squeezebox Controller loses connection to Server

2008-10-01 Thread MMatt

Hi,

I recently bought a Squeezebox Duett. It was rather easy to setup the
system nad the network connection. I use a Zyxel 660HW as an combined
ADSL and WiFi router and a WPA2-PSK as encryption standard.

My problem:
>From time to time the Controller looses connection to the server (blue
WiFi symbol) and is then unable to reconnect to the server. I have to
shut down the controller to re-establish connection.

I am running "SqueezeCenter-Version: 7.2 - 22900 @ Tue Aug 26 11:27:23
PDT 2008 - Windows XP - DE - cp1252" directly on the PC. The Controller
SOftware Version is 7.2 r2873.

Any ideas what to check?

Squeezebox for video is the Popcornhour, which just happens to play
these files streamed across your network...sound familiar

Problem with all this Video stuff is there is NO legit way to rip the
files - therefore no large company is going to touch all this with a
bargepole.

Pity

I believe we have a winner... I do, indeed, scroll to the song title
before pressing play. This would explain both the behavior of the SB3
and the result in SC7.

I will test this as soon as I get home, but I believe you have solved
my dilema.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox Controller static IP. How?

2008-10-01 Thread androidtopp

Agreed - DHCP reservations like Pat is recommending are far more
graceful (IMHO) than static IPs. You can control everything from one
place (your DHCP server) which usually has a better user interface that
all the devices you're trying to configure. As an IT guy, here I'm
thinking specifically of printers. But really, everything that's not a
computer.

Why not have your DHCP server issue a fixed address using the MAC of the
Controller and Reviever? That's what I do. Lets the network work as plug
and play, but lets me assign things, add bind/named, etc.

RTFM before brute force :-) My Controller came with quick start guide
only - purchased it separate from Receiver. Thanks for the link. I'll
give it a try.

Actually I wasn't very accurate with my statement N 1. I do run DHCP
server on my network but it is only for laptops, iPhones, iPods etc.
I'll try to shut down DHCP server and assign static IP to the
Controller.
Only question will it stick to assigned static IP after it sees DHCP
server is up again or it will try to negotiate DHCP lease?

I agree with the above, but I was only talking about Pandora. Tim

[slim] CUE files not being picked up & stored in playlists

2008-10-01 Thread RichardP

Hi,

Sorry in advance if this is a well worn enquiry but I've searched
exhaustively before posting.

I have a few folders within the library containing long mp3 files
together with their associated separate CUE file (paired in the same

Just tried a 'Rescan playlists' with no success.

How can I get the scanner to 'see' my CUE files and offer them as
playlists?

Re: [slim] Pandora Saved...

2008-10-01 Thread peterw

I'm not so sure. What I've read (including at thomas.loc.gov) suggests
that this bill merely allows individual "webcasters" like Pandora to
keep trying to negotiate royalty deals with the record industry up
until next February. IF they do negotiate such deals, they can then pay
the rates they've negotiated instead of the new rates that SoundExchange
wants.

If they fail to negotiate by next Feb, they pay the SoundExchange rates
(== go out of business, they say).

Any other webcaster that isn't covered under last week's 10.5% deal
(http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2331001,00.asp -- meaning SOMA
FM, Live365, etc.) will also be stuck with the much higher
SoundExchange rates if they fail to broker their own deals.

Last week's 10.5% deal seems much more newsworthy than this new
legislation. And since I mainly listen to (and support) smaller
webcasters like SOMA FM that are not covered under last week's deal,
this new legislation offers no relief. Once again, congress seems to be
taking care of the big outfits and letting the small parties suffer
(Pandora may be bleeding cash, but they're still much more likely to
get the RIAA to the table than, say, a college radio station).

PS3 will play VOB's just fine. It's not ideal though because you will lose
selection of subtitles, language tracks, etc. If your language track
happens to not be the first audio track then you will also be out of luck I

Re: [slim] Slim::Plugin::CLI::Plugin::cli_process (627) Request [artist] failed with error: Bad.

2008-10-01 Thread mkanet

I found the problem. I just realized I am using something that calls
the CLI very 5 seconds. The developer's response when I asked for him
to fix this problem is below. Any chance you can make a little change
in the next nightly build to keep it quiet during the below query:

Michael,

It's a bug in squeezecenter. SlimPlayer plugin issues the following CLI
commands repeatedly (5 seconds apart):
 artist ?
If the current playing stream is a remote stream (internet radio) then
squeezecenter will fail on the artist ? command and log an error in
server.log.
The CLI api does not state this command is only allowed when non remote
streams are playing, so I consider this to be a bug in SC. In this case
the artist ? query should probably fail silently.

What are you pressing Play on? If I press Play on the words "All Songs"

Play on the first track (i.e. I press right from All Songs and then

What I can't reproduce is the different playlists between SB3 and SC -
my only guess here is that you're confusing the list of songs shown

press Now Playing after Play?

You should buy a Duet or Controller after the headphone jack has been
activated.

Thanks for the effort, Andy, but I still can't get Bloomberg to play on
a SB3 via Radiotime on SN. It may be pertinent to note that the "File
format" is "M3U Playlist".

Re: [slim] Music stopping, skipping, muting?

Sounds like a wireless issue to me. That is pretty much exactly what
happens here when I use the microwave.

The SBC and laptops are not steadily streaming, so you can't use them
as a gauge for how the players will handle wireless interference. Even
though you may not have made any changes in your network, if you have
neighbors in range, they might have.

There is a lot of troubleshooting info in the Wiki, which you can reach
from the Community link above.

Re: [slim] FLAC format for videos?

2008-10-01 Thread funkstar

DVDDecryptor is what I use. Like I said, you will be best to visit
forums dedicated to this kind of thing, you will get a -lot- more
useful information that way.

I have no idea if VOB files can be streamed to a PS3 easily, I don't
own one and have never used one. Have a look for PS3 user forums,
someone there is bound to have done this.

Ok if I rip to ISO or IFO, can it stream to the PS3? What programs are
you using to do this? As previously stated, I own my DVDs and want to
keep them permanently in a closet next to my CDs.

Re: [slim] Selecting "All Songs" in the album list only plays the first song (repeatedly)...

Not quite... ;)

On the SB3: Power On > Music Library > Artist > "Artist Name" > "All
Songs"

This gets me the first song only (which repeats if I have the "repeat
playlist" option activated). I can scroll through the playlist and it
shows the additional songs from the chosen artist on the SB3, but will
only play the first one.

If, however, I pull up SqueezeCenter and check the playlist for the
SB3, it only shows the first song in the playlist (without any of the
additional songs.

If I populate the playlist for the SB3 in SqueezeCenter using the "all
songs" button, the playlist populates correctly and plays on the SB3
correctly.

The major downside to this is that I have 2 SB3s on the top floor of my
home and the PC housing my media and running SC is in the basement.

Why won't choosing the "All Songs" option from the SB3 populate the
playlist correctly in SC?

Is that any more clear?

[slim] Music stopping, skipping, muting?

2008-10-01 Thread GTax

I've got 3 SBRs, 1 Boom, and 1 SBC. They were working great up until
about a week ago, and I've made no changes... At times the music just
stops, sometimes it skips to the next song, and other times it seems to
mute (the SBC thinks the music is till going as it's showing the time
left in the song progressing). I don't think it's the internet since,
this is happening on both Pandora and when I play music locally out of
my library. They're all wireless, and while I know that can be an
issue, the SBC never loses connectivity to the network, and 2 laptops
don't have any issues.

I think it may be an issue with synchnorization, since playing just one
of the units seems to work ok. Has anyone run into this issue, or know
how to fix it? Is it something else? I apologize if this is one of
the reported bugs.

Thanks.

...when you add a track to Favorites, it's associated album is bumped to

Repeated attempts to discern whether this is a bug or a feature have

This has been done to death. General consensus was that was such a
radical departure from the current design (i.e. slim device by design)
that it wasn't worth it.

Raising bugs is the way to go. Be as specific as you can regarding the
error, the files which are causing the problems (attach one if you can)
and the version of SC you're running (plus OS etc).

You can also try switching to either the 7.2.1 or 7.3 nightlies to see
if that helps (although be aware that 7.3. in particular may cause
other problems!).

7.2.1 nightly builds can be found here:

As for when an official release of 7.2.1 will happen, I don't know.
When it's done I assume :)

[slim] Squeezebox with HDD?

2008-10-01 Thread ajkidle

Any chance that future version of the Squeezebox products would include
a hard drive, similar to a DVR? My thinking is that this could be
beneficial in a few ways:

1 - No computer required to run SqueezeCenter, just run it directly on
the device.

2 - Could support services like Rhapsody-To-Go. This would be super
cool for the Boom: the ability to unlock it from the constraints of
being on a network and take your music with you.

3 - Store your music collection directly on the device. Instead of
having to stream your local music from another computer on the network
(which has to be powered on,) the SB could serve as the host.

I'm sure I'm not the first to have this idea, but a quick search of the
forums didn't turn anything up so I thought I'd throw it out there.
Actual implementation could go a variety of ways: an HDD could be an
option so as to keep the base price low, or maybe the deivce could just
have a SATA or USB connection for people to add their own storage later
if they want.

Great products, by the way.

Andy

Hi Tom,

Do you have any further information on why this is? As Andy says when
he paste's the link into a browser then it plays fine but when accessed
through Squeezenetwork it isn't recognising we are from the UK.

I don't really want to have to go to the extent of installing AlienBBC
on something that should work as standard for UK users

Cheers
Ian

ps Andy - I'm with sky so its obviously related to more then one ISP
