Like most (all?) posting here I have to say that not only are Squeezeboxes the best value audio products **ever**, but they've revolutionised the way we listen to music. I've never bought as much music in such a short space of time since going networked with SD gear, since listening to it is so easy, so flexible, with such high quality sound. Re: [slim] How do I get album art to match the album
I have had this happen very occasionally - maybe twice in five years - and the only solution I found that worked was to create a new folder (named differently from the folder the files are currently in) move the music files and .jpg to it, then do a full clear and rescan (having deleted the cache file as well). You will also need to clear the browser cache as suggested above. -- Siduhe Who am I on 'LAST.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/siduhe)? "-Siduhe Loved Tracks radio got the thumbs up. You only need to match {98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006} though right? Actually the request was to turn WiFi ON, when SlimControl is launched. But yes, resetting it when SC terminates is probably the proper way to go. What do you mean by a logical OR of the value data. Do you mean querying all values under that {..7E5006} key and assuming the WiFi to be on, if any of thoses values is greater than 0? Fortunately a happy user donated a Wifi-enabled XDA smartphone. mortslim;427035 Wrote: > I think it depends on the server. Once you go 24/7, the new netbooks > don't radically increase consumption by running a background program. But it's not really a "background program" - these things are specifically designed to take 100% cpu when the machine is otherwise idle (which for a typical file server is almost all the time). It does of course depend very much on your machine, something like an Atom has a max usage of around 4W so a 50% change is largely irrelevant. A faster processor however could have a much bigger range - mine is running on an Athlon LE-1640 which has a max usage of 45W, compared with an idle usage closer to 10W - the difference there is obviously much greater. My guess is that more people are running SC on old P4 boxes (which use huge amounts of power) than Atoms, so the difference could be quite significant. Add to that the fact that you're running the thing at max temps which may cause interesting issues depending on how good your cooling is (as well as increasing noise). I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from contributing if they want to, just making sure people are aware that it's not "free" computing power, it costs you some extra amount of money and it costs the environment some extra amount of carbon emissions, even if your machine is normally on 24/7 like mine. -- radish radish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=77 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63681 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

To add to your thoughtful analysis, please consider that power plants must always run at some production level that is greater than consumption. I don't remember the wiggle room factor, it's something over 10% of consumption, and many systems make such information available. (Where I am it is the California ISO). Because power plants don't throttle on and off, the unused factor is considerable at low use times, like overnight (20-30-40 percent or more) Increasing power consumption of some number of PCs in people's homes will not result in any increase of carbon emissions. -- Goodsounds Goodsounds's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14201 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63681 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

You or I individually won't make any appreciable difference, but if everyone increased their domestic use 5% then new power plants would be needed to keep that 10% buffer. Likewise, if everyone lowered their domestic usage 5% I'm sure some plants could be shut down (and there certainly are plants which don't run 24/7 but are used only for peak times). Well, then I think you're beating the wrong drum. You admonished mortslim for his suggestion for SC servers, but now you agree there's no significant consumption impact of doing so. If the problem is PS3 users, go after them. In the US, most electrical consumption is commercial/industrial and summertime air conditioning. Sean, this is sad news indeed for those of us who have enjoyed your products so much over the past nine years. The experience of discovering the Squeezebox (I was looking at an Olive Symphony when I ran across a reference to the SB3 somewhere), setting it up, ripping and tagging all of my music (and doing it again after a hard drive failure -- OUCH!) and, finally, enjoying my collection with an ease I never dreamed of has -- as others have noted -- enriched my life immeasurably. [slim] SB Boom - Alarm clock problem
Primarily using my first SB Boom as an alarm clock (I purchased another one just yesterday for the main lounge downstairs - brilliant!). Problem: the Alarm clock was originally set to 6:15am, which woke me at the prescribed time with my choice of radio station (Radio New Zealand). Decided that this was too early, and need more 'zzz so adjusted the alarm to wake me at 6:30am instead. The alarm went off at 6:15 this morning! Double-checked the settings: only 1 alarm set - Monday thru to Friday, 6:30am. Re: [slim] Looking for help with a noise problem
Yeah, I've tried several different cables - 3 different ones, all of which work for other stuff - and I've tried all the inputs. But I think you are right about the earthing thing - I suspect the DAC is creating another stage which interrupts the 'bad' connection being made between the SB, preamp and the amp (which is letting in the rf in this particular instance). That's my guess. Re: [slim] SB Boom - Alarm clock problem
I have been having similar problems with my alarm (on both a Boom and a SBR). My alarms go off at the right time, and shut off at the right time, but they always restart again 12 mins after shut off and go in indefinitely. I have contacted support about this and they haven't been able to work out what is going on. However we have managed to isolate the problem as being related to Radiotime radio streams only. Apparently others have been having trouble with Radiotime streams (according to support) although I haven't seen much traffic on the forums related to it (i.e. none apart from you). Re: [slim] Looking for help with a noise problem
By the look of the preamp (http://www.anthemav.com/OldSitev1/pdf/pre1l.pdf) it is well shielded - looks like a steel chassis weighing 20 pounds. However, from the picture it appears that the RCA input plugs are mounted on a circuit board and the ground hookup may be loose or a "dry" joint. The preamp must be at least 10 years old >From this thread http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60122 it appears that the SB3 expects to be grounded through the interconnect shield and if that was not grounded at the preamp then it could make the noise you describe - like the noise you got when you plugged in a magnetic P/U cartridge in a turntable and didn't have the RCA plug to your preamp plugged in all the way. Can you get hold of a multimeter to check if the outside of the RCA input sockets on the preamp are grounded ? Or better still, take the SB3 and preamp to the amp builder and show him the problem. -- Wirrunna A camel is a racehorse designed by a committee.
