I've put the DSBridge .dll and lame_enc.dll in the spotify directory

Any ideas on how to get DSBridge to work in wine?

Is this just a bad CUE sheet or are you indeed accessing your local

using an UNC path? What's your audiodir set to?

 --

 Michael

Yes, the cue sheet was bad. I had changed the name of the files without
editing the cue sheets. I have corrected that now and a scan for new or
changed music picked the album up correctly.

And yes, I use unc paths for local discs. My music directory in SC is
set to \\Musikmaskinen\Elements (I)\MP3\Min musik. In the referenced
folder (on an usb 2.0 disc) there are folders containing the bulk of my
music files AND a short cut with the unc path \\Musikmaskinen\Musik
(H)\Mina CD (Flac) pointing to an internal disc (IDE, I think) where
some additional music files (flac) are stored.

The paths were that way also when I did the penultimate wipe and rescan
which took 6-8 hours, instead of 18 hours for the last one.

The reason for using unc paths is that I had trouble with muso,
http://klarita.net/forum/index.php?topic=175.0. I think the issue has
been addressed now.

Could using unc paths slow things down in SC?

Yes, that is the kind of thing I had in mind. At the moment Logitech
rely on third party software for the ripping, tagging and hosting. I am
quite happy with my solution, now that my tags are all fixed, but a
quick trawl through this forum suggests many are not. If Logitech could
bring an approved set of components under their maintenance umbrella
then they could offer a working turnkey solution while leaving
enthusiasts the option to choose their own way of working.

And I am confident it would cost a lot less than this:

[slim] SB3 Constantly Rebooting

2009-07-05 Thread Cessquill

Hi

I've had this trouble since 7.3.1 (I think, although I'm not sure it's
software related). My squeezebox 3 is constantly in a reboot loop.

Logitech Logo - Squeezebox - Welcome to Squeezebox, to setup press
the right arrow ...10 seconds or so... - blank screen - back to start.
Constantly.

I've just factory reset it, and it is sitting here, about 10 feet from
my wireless router, and I can't get it past the security options before
it goes back into reboot. Every now and then it'll stay on for a while,
but only for about 10 minutes.

Any ideas? It's pretty much useless to me at the moment.

Cheers, Simon

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2009-07-05 Thread chp

New release to fix some issues with minimized and hidden windows:

http://dsbridge.googlecode.com/files/dsbridge-20090705-bin.zip

Changes:

- Cover is no longer incorrectly offset if the window is not maximized
- Added some workarounds that will allow the cover to be extracted even
if the window is minimized or hidden (or both)

*Ramage*, I do not have any desktop linux-installations running
currently, but I can install one and take a look at why it is not
working.

*Veggen*, then I'm not sure why you are seeing that result (I see no
issues in either XP or W7). I have done some tweaks to the capturing
code in this new release, so you could try it and see if it helps.

*Christian Fredrik*, luckily you are mistaken :). My solution is pure
software and does not degrade the audio stream other than the
transcoding to MP3 - when I get FLAC encoding implemented (yes, it's
coming...) there will be no difference at all.

This works great! :)
It seems like magic to me that just copying some files to the
Spotify-folder makes it work. :) I'm using it with a Squeezebox v3.

I would like to be able to select the encoding bitrate. Since I'm using
it at home on my LAN I would like to use 320kbit/s. It is easiliy
possible to hear the transcoding when using 192kbit/s.

Maybe a simple configuration text-file? There's no need for any fancy

Re: [slim] Why no Transporter Thread at the highest hierary level?

2009-07-05 Thread ghostrider

I bought a stand-alone SBC to use with my Transporter and Boom. I don't
have any issues but I still run SC 7.2. The SBC, to me, seems flakey
after 7.3 and I don't need any of the functions that 7.3 provides,
espscially the SBC as a player.

[slim] Squeezebox connectivity woes

2009-07-05 Thread dekaliber

For some reason my squeezebox seems to experience very spotty
connectivity via wireless. One day it will be fine, another day it
won't connect at all until I fiddle with where it's located. Sometimes
even a couple of inches will help.

My router is a D-Link DIR-655 and it's probably ~30 ft from the SB on
the same floor with a couple of walls in between. My laptop in the same
location never has any problem connecting or maintaining a connection
and when I was testing a Transporter in my place, it never seemed to
have any problems. My hunch is that part of the issue, at least, is the
wireless adapter used in the Squeezebox V3.

I've tried changing channels on my router with no obvious effect.

I'm wondering if maybe:
- My 2-3 year old Squeezebox is starting to experience hardware
failure? I never had this issue until the last few months, but that
could be a lot of things -- new router, possibly a new neighbor moving
in...
- The newer versions (Squeezebox Classic, Duet) utilize a different
wireless adapter?
- There's a 3rd party wireless adapter that can be bought that hooks up
to the SB's ethernet port?
- I might be able to fiddle with the antenna to improve reception, in
which case, what is typically the strongest configuration?

Any thoughts or suggestion would be much appreciated. Running an
ethernet cable, while possibly the only sure-fire solution, is not an
option in my situation.

focus on making the listening experience the best it can be.

I would go even farther and say if they venture into video there are
going to lose a lot of fans and I would be one of them. I bought into a
music system that, as great as it is, is still pretty rough in some
areas, and I really want to see them focus on those instead of tilting
after windmills in the video world.

The Squeezebox technology is great, but there's a lot of work that will
need to be done, just to keep it working going forward.
SqueezeOS has been a mixed bag so far, the feature set lags behind the
old SB2 generation clients in just about every regard.
MusicIP integration is one of the best things about Squeezebox, but in
the long run they really need another solution given development has
ceased.
SoftSqueeze is still the best player (especially with bpa's work and
the built in ssh tunneling) but that's depreciated so they need work
there.

I see them having a hard time meeting these challenges with their
current level of commitment, if they branch out into video, it would be
a lost cause.

2009-07-05 Thread chp

New release (second one today):

http://dsbridge.googlecode.com/files/dsbridge-20090705_2-bin.zip

Changes:

- Added configuration file support
- Added title prefix stripping

*Martin43*, you read my mind :). I have tested 320kbps by tweaking the
configuration file and it works great. I am however leaving it at
192kbps per default, but it's an easy change.

*baz*, title prefix stripping has been added.

Remember to copy the configuration file alongside the DLL now!
Otherwise among other things cover art support will be disabled, since I
now default it to off.

Oh no! They have to be exactly 3 mm hex head that are 10 mm long.
Otherwise, you mess up the eddy currents inside the Transporter, and
lose all the fidelity.

Think of it as $1000 interconnect wires, they make a difference.

Hi,

i've run into a problem with zone alarm security suite (ZA). When ZA is
disabled DSBridge works fine with Spotify, but when running, the
connection with squeeze center times out, and the system tray icon shows
idle (blue).

I have given SC and Spotify full program permission in the program

i have also followed the logitech advice on 'configuring ZoneAlarm

Hey maybe somebody in Admin could start a Transporter Section and move
the whole thread over there?

Well if you have already taken the top off, you already let all the
smoke out so what does it matter now?! Also removing the handles
drastically affects the electro magnetic fields of the transformers and
especially so in the ModWright with its toroidal transformer!

to void your warranty for removing the handles as I believe the top has

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2009-07-05 Thread Martin43

Having used DSBridge now for a couple of hours I can conclude that it
works great!

Some observations:
My Squeezebox shows two values for the streaming buffer. The first
value seems to be how many seconds that the Squeezebox has buffered
itself, and the second value seems to be the size of the buffer in
DSBridge.

When I change track or skip within a track the second value increases
by about 1,8 seconds until it is up to 10 seconds in total. The first
value very slowly increases to (to infinity?). If I pause Spotify the
first value goes to zero (in real time), then the second value decreases
to zero. If I hit play before it reaches zero the sound continous as if
nothing happened, but the buffer levels are now lower than before.

The audio delay seems to be the sum of both values. After a long time
the values can be 20/10 seconds. If I change track then, it takes 30
seconds before I hear the change (unless I pause playback for 28 seconds
first, then the delay is down to two seconds).

Would it be possible to include a setting for buffersize in the
.ini-file?
And why does it jump 1,8 seconds when I change track? Some initial
buffering when Spotify starts to send data?

If the buffer size can't be reduced, maybe DSBridge can pause Spotify
automatically every now and then to lower the buffer levels. This could
be done by simulating the keyboard key APPCOMMAND_MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE.
This works also when Spotify is minimized or not in focus.

I'm using 320kbit/s now and the sound is quite enjoyable!

The salesperson told me, he had been to a Logitech seminar and they had

give away any useful information :-/
My first thought was: It's obvious, now they're going to add video

For me it will make no difference (apart from affecting the price on

 PS.
Yes, I know there would be some challenges and choices in making such a

I would love to see Logitech take a crack at video, but there is the

Looking at what is in the box, I can't figure out HOW they could make it

So having said that, is it worth trying to expand into that market when
the price is hammered down that low already? Looking at the available

*Martin43*, yes, I am aware of the building delay that occurs during
use, it's one of the top issues to fix right now. The two values you

For the cause, there might be data written that is not actually played
in the source client, thus offsetting the stream. By more closely
monitoring API calls I have a hunch that it can be solved.

PLAYLIST (X_Y) KBPS EXT BUFFER.
Under Squeezeserver-Settings-My playername-Music Information Screen I
then select this format string to appear in the top left on the

When I listen to my own music it shows file format, bitrate and buffer

When streaming it shows buffer in seconds x / y seconds as described

stream my music collection from my Thecus 5200 NAS (located in my
house) to my computer at work. How is that accomplished?

Also, I would love to be able to stream to an iPhone. Is that
possible
  and if so, how?

ANy assisatance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

General steps.. assuming you have a cable/adsl connection (and
winders)
and that your SC machine is connected to the cable/dsl box WITHOUT a
 router/wireless access point in-between...

Most cable setups give you a static (unchanging IP address) and
many
phone companies DSL automatically give you a static address when
you
 have higher speeds.

 1. at the home computer, open a browser and go to
www.whatismyip.com.
Write down this external IP address.

 2. open a command window and type
 ipconfig enter
write down the IP address and the default gateway (assuming you are
on
 the machine running SC.)

 3. in a browser window key http://default gateway address enter
 Mine is
 http://192.168.0.111
This should display the configuration screen for your cable/dsl
modem.
This is the tricky part because there are so many different models.
I've used Netopia and Westell (ATT) modems so I'll give you them as
an
 example..

 4. You will be looking for NAT setup. In my modems you go to expert
 mode/configure/NAT.

BACKGROUND: what we want to do is to tell the modem that when it
sees
business from the outside world (internet/work) on a particular
PORT
number, forward that traffic to the SC machine. There are two ports
involved, TCP 9000 and TCP 3483. Default behavior for these modems
is
to reject ANY inbound traffic from the internet that hasn't been
requested by a computer on the inside. This is a good thing,
preventing the outside world from seeing the network in your home.

In my netopia, I have to define a service (as port forwarding,
range
of ports) from ports 9000 through 9000 to base port 9000. Then I do
the
 same for port 3483.

When I tell the modem to enable these services, it asks which
computer address I want them to be sent to. Here you enter the IP
address from the ipconfig screen (the address of the machine that is
running SC.) Some modems may let you fill this info into a form
rather
than having a two-step process and some modems will show the names
of
the machines in addition to IP addresses when you select the target.

 5. go here http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lame-bundle.php and download
lame. This is the code that will compress your music on-the-fly as
you
play it remotely. Put LAME.EXE in
 C:\program files\squeezecenter\server\bin\mswin32-x86-multi-thread
You don't need the .DLL version. You'll know it's the right place
because it will have alac.exe, flac.exe, sox.exe, etc.

 6. go to the outside world and open a browser, keying the address:

 http://whatismyip:9000
where whatismyip is the external IP address from the earlier
step.

The http:// is very important if you are using a newer version of
Internet Explorer because they don't make a guess about which
protocol
to use on non-standard ports (like 9000)

If everything has been done right, you should see SC. If you don't,
it's possible that port 9000 is blocked by your IT people. Tough
luck.
Try again from a public WiFi to see if you've got the configuration
 right.

 7. go to extras and install SoftSqueeze.

 8. things may be ok at this point, but I would rename the
SoftSqueeze
player and change it's Audio settings to about 128K. The Lame
quality
setting you use depends on how fast your SC machine is ...

 9. advanced diddling: run SoftSqueeze. open SC, select the
SoftSqueeze
player and go to HELP/Server and Network Health. Pick a speed and
the
results will be shown on the SoftSqueeze display and in SC. This is
testing the outbound speed of your home broadband connection.

If you have a very fast connection at home, you can push this up but
REMEMBER... you'll also be sucking bandwidth from your employer's
inbound connection so it might be better to be reasonable (and not
 attract attention...)

Nice writeup. This needs to go on the wiki.

Does anyone have issues when using a SBC with the transporter? It seems
like the two don't like each other and eventually the SBC just refuses
to connect to the transporter. The transporter's control freeze when
trying to control it with the SBC. It's fine as I have a universal
remote control for my primary system, but still a little annoying.

I use an SBC with my Transporter all the time, no issues. Which makes
sense, the SBC has very little clue as to what kind of player it's
controlling, I can't imagine how it could be less reliable with one kind
than another.

What happens if you feed a Transporter a 24/192 FLAC file?

I would hope that it would be downsampled to 24/96 by SOX?

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...
SB3 (wired) - TACT 2.2X (Linear PSU) + Good Vibrations S/W - MF
Triplethreat(Audiocom full mods) - Linn 5103 - Aktiv 5.1 system (6x
LK140's, ESPEK/TRIKAN/KATAN/SEIZMIK 10.5), Townsend Supertweeters, Blue
Jeans Digital,Kimber Speaker Chord Interconnect cables
