Re: [slim] man at work - back to design phase - please help me set up my music network
Hi and thanks to you all it's not clear at all what you would gain from keeping the music files on the NAS instead of on a local hard drive on the VB I have 5 pc connected to the NAS, each with a music library pointing to the nas Synos and qnap have made excellent products which even a computer dumb like me can easily configure. That includes explorer like access facilities for your files from anywhere in world, automatic back up to amazon s3, shot and post from my iphone and much more. I am sure I could achieve all this on a linux box, but I am also sure that I would never be able to do it myself (double posting above says it all). On the other hand, You can use Subsonic (built in) to get to your file remotely well, that is in fact reason #1 to keep the music files in the NAS. Thanks agillis, I will investigate subsonic or if there is a way to automatically mirrow the mp3s to the nas (flacs can stay in the vb) cheers, Stefano -- vernavideo vernavideo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37355 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76928 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

When you add the stream to your favourites in squeezenetwork / mysqueezebox.com you need to add #slim:noscan=1 to the end of the URL. So for me, I have 192.168.1.101:8124/#slim:noscan=1 The DSBridge software only seems to support one stream at a time. Squeezenetwork tries to connect to validate the stream before playing, which is tricky with internal IPs. It also creates a couple of streams, which seems to break dsbridge. Using noscan avoids this, and seems to fix it! When the starting folder is not used, you don't need a drive letter. When Starting folder is used, the drive letter and mapping is only used to enable the Browse button for an intuitive interface which help prevent errors. Another option would be to not use a drive letter and let the user enter the path manually. Which, will result in path errors (on linux NAS based devices these are also case sensitive) and will cause strange ACC behaviour (no album art etc). The actual reference to the album art is not related to the drive letter (in ACC v1.x this was actually the case as this version would offer an option to link to album art files or get them from SBS). For reasons of simplicity I made the drive letter requirement mandatory although not required when not using a starting folder. -- SilverRS8 Author of -'AlbumCatalogCreator' (http://acc.vanholt.nl)- for SqueezeCenter '_' (http://www.badkamerpech.nl) SlimServer. 2xSB3, 1xDuet, 1xRadio, 1xiPhone iPeng, Ubuntu NAS + SBS SilverRS8's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12818 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74452 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Looking at your ACC log file again I see that you have an incorrect full physical path specified which may explain inconsistent behavior as you are right. ACC should only show the mp3 files because you have specified drive M:\ as starting folder. You have entered 'mp3' as full physical path which is not a path notation. Press the test button on the remote server option screen and an example is displayed on the bottom of the ACC screen of a path as stored in the database. Use this syntax to specify the full physical path to the folder that is shared (and which you access from the windows machine using drive M). I can do this in the controller, by navigating to name of the station/stream, holding the center button down and I get a menu that has add to end, play next, play, save to favorites, etc. Can do the same thing in SQUEEZEPLAY from the + button in now playing. Or in iPENG, etc. To be fair, if I'm already Playing the stream and hit the center button, I don't get the same options. So the key is to back out to the name of the stream rather than being within the streamthen you can add to favorites. -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77054 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] 7.5 help
So, I love the idea of the Squeezebox -- so much so that I own a Radio, 2 Booms and a Duet. Since I received the Radio, I've been REALLY let down -- we all know the problems with the alarm - and then it took forever to get new firmware. And, now, 7.5 is out --- everything seemed to be working 'ok' for me - and I was sick of it asking me to update the software on all of my devices, so I did it. Now, I play a song on Pandora and it stops -- after every song. I have better stability with Sirius -- but it still stops playing after about 45 minutes. Can someone please help? I'm pretty close to returning these things since no one on the Support line was able to help. While listening to a stream, just press the back-button (left) and then More (+) and then you'll have the option to add to favorites. -- united59 united59's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37126 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77143 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] I preferred the devices slim!
I have a SB3, 2 Booms, Duet and Radio. Doubtless I'll get a Touch in due course... but... I don't particularly like the new system in the Controller/Radio... To expand... I loved the configurability of the SB3 - they way you could control everything from the server, it remembered everything through all the upgrades and you could get it to do whatever you wanted. Plugins like SaverSwitcher, TitleSwitcher and the like have really made it a joy to look at, and really informative. And easy to read from ten feet away. The Controller just isn't as configurable, and it forgets all the custom settings every time you upgrade the firmware. I can't get info from my custom tags onto its now playing screen, and have to live with the way it scrolls (much too slow) and doesn't show enough text. I know, I understand that the new screens are prettier and hardly anyone configures their stuff as much as I have, so this is probably a good commercial move. I just thought I'd have a little moan is all! I'm not going to say that the baby is lost, just, well, I'm tempted to hoover up a few SB3s when the bottom falls out of the market. Ironically, I may well end up slaving one to my Touch to use as a screen... -- adamslim You can't have too much music, but I do have too much hifi Rock/Excalibur/MC30S, Linn Akurate Skweezy DS, Audion Pre, 6B4G SET, Lowther monsters Duet, Caiman, Audio Innovations Series 500, One Thing Quad ESLs Boom x 2, Radio adamslim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7355 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77147 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge
Love using squeezeslave on my win7 HTPC, works great (thanks!). I'm using ASIO4all, version 133 of squeezeslave. Problem: I have noticed from time to time (once every few hours or so), all of the sound will stop. If I look at the web gui, it thinks slave is still playing. It seems to stay silent until I do something. Hitting next track or seeking to another place in the track will resume playback. I've noticed this on Squeeze Server 7.4.2 and still on 7.5.1 (running on a WinXP sp3 server). I've seen this problem on older versions of squeezeslave and with / without asio. Most of my files are cue/flacs and I do use a custom-conv file to do on-the-fly HDCD/de-emphasis (if that matters). Just curious if others have seen this. If you don't like how the Controller works, then you certainly won't like how the Touch works. A lot of settings on the Touch can't be set from the server. [slim] Strange noise when connecting Transporter directly
Hi I normally connect my Transporter to my Electrocompaniet AW400 monoblocks through my Yamaha RX-V3900 surround receiver and have no issues. Today I tried to connect Transporter directly to AW400 which I have done several times before without issues, but for some reason I get a really loud continous noise in my right speaker, unaffected by volume changes. It seems like a rather loud 50hz so it's probably some grounding thing. I tried moving all my cables without it affecting the noise at all. I am using unbalanced connections on the Transporter and RCA to XLR on the AW400 side (they do not have unbalanced inputs) When connecting back through my Yamaha receiver everything is OK again. Re: [slim] Upgrade to- and use of 7.5.0=Smooth sailing
After some misfortune with a previous upgrade (I forget which one, perhaps to 7.4.0?) I was wary of upgrading, and sat at 7.4.1 because I couldn't see anything in the 7.4.2 change log that interested me. I wasn't sure about 7.5.0 either, but wondered whether some of the various performance improvements and bugfixes might make things better. Before upgrading, I used the Control Panel to clean out the cache (which took a while). After that, my usual scan for new/changed took over an hour, instead of its usual 8 minutes or so; and I was left with some odd effects (most noticeably, my Receiver disappeared from all but the Info webpage and the Controller); though all seemed well after I'd hibernated the server and turned off the network overnight. After all that, the upgrade to 7.5.0 was trivial, taking all of 5 minutes; and everything seems to be working fine. (One minor problem was that the Controller balked at the installation of its firmware update, but got through it OK once I'd turned it off and on again.) I seem to see a big improvement in the responsiveness of the webiface (though this might be imagined, or could have been due to the cache-wipe, for all I know). I'm pretty certain that the scrolling behaviour of the Controller is now much better - I'm far less likely to overshoot by more than a few artists, for example. All in all, a pleasant surprise. So far! No, the tip was probably for the Radio where the + button brings up the context menu. That doesn't work on the Boom. IIRC there used to be a favorites option when you pressed the right arrow button on the Now Playing screen, but that got lost in SBS 7.5 since they are now displaying the useless Radiotime menu instead of the SBS menu. :( -- usch usch's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33389 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77143 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

They are the same except 11n works on 5.8ghz and can bond several channels at once. Unlike 11g vs 11b, there is no backwards compatibility or speed problems mixing 11g and 11n Unfortunately, product marketing doesn't make this clear.
