Re: [slim] man at work - back to design phase - please help me set up my music network

2010-04-10 Thread vernavideo

Hi and thanks to you all
it's not clear at all what you would gain from keeping the music files
on the NAS instead of on a local hard drive on the VB

I have 5 pc connected to the NAS, each with a music library pointing to
the nas
Synos and qnap have made excellent products which even a computer dumb
like me can easily configure. That includes explorer like access
facilities for your files from anywhere in world, automatic back up to
amazon s3, shot and post from my iphone and much more.
I am sure I could achieve all this on a linux box, but I am also sure
that I would never be able to do it myself (double posting above says
it all).

On the other hand,
You can use Subsonic (built in) to get to your file remotely
well, that is in fact reason #1 to keep the music files in the NAS.
Thanks agillis, I will investigate subsonic or if there is a way to
automatically mirrow the mp3s to the nas (flacs can stay in the vb)

cheers,
Stefano

As has been suggested to you numerous times in several posts you have
three options:
- return it
- reprogram the chip
- throw it away and buy another

You were sold either a broken unit or a store demo unit. In either
case your options are as suggested.

I feel bad you got ripped off but there is nothing anyone here can do

When you add the stream to your favourites in squeezenetwork /

So for me, I have 192.168.1.101:8124/#slim:noscan=1

The DSBridge software only seems to support one stream at a time.
Squeezenetwork tries to connect to validate the stream before playing,
which is tricky with internal IPs. It also creates a couple of streams,
which seems to break dsbridge. Using noscan avoids this, and seems to
 fix it!

 Very happy with this now!

Using ATT Tilt2 - Custom ROM 6.5+

One question?

Is there an easy way to back up from the current screen I select?

Menu is fairly intuitive, however there are a lot of time when I select
an option, then the screen slides across with my selection.

However I have not discovered any sort of back button that will bring
me back to my previous screen.

Maybe I am missing something but many times I get on a screen that I
can't back out of to my previous screen. Basically I have to figure
out the 'home' type button and then re-navigate..

I'm I missing something easy, or is it not possible?

Hopefully this question makese sense?

Frank,

First of all, I've been using AAC for a long time now and I think it's
a great program. I'm trying to understand some of the options that are
not that obvious to me.

I think I understand what you're trying to tell me, but it doesn't
fully answer my question.

I have played/experimented with the CLI of squeezeboxserver and I know
for a fact that the CLI gives all the information you need about
artists, albums and tracks to make a catalog like AAC does. The CLI
even provides a (partial) link to the (cached?) coverart.

Because of the need for the MySql driver you're probably accessing the
database directly without the CLI.

I recall having read something about the need for a drive letter to get
the albumart, but while looking at the catalogs html output file, I can
see that the links to the album art do not have a reference to the
drive letter or directories at all.

So I wondered, why would AAC need a path to the directories where the
music files are stored?

If I understand you explanation correctly, the starting folder can be
used as an index to get only partial information on the catalog.

In my case the M: drive points to the mp3 files only while the catalog
contains all albums which includes mp3,aac,ogg,wma and flac files.
These aac, ogg and other files are NOT accessable through this drive M:
!

So far I enter a drive letter in the Remote Server/NAS options screen,
a 'Full remote physical path to music share' and 'Starting folder' on
the 'optional' filters because the program requires it.

So, I'm trying to understand the need for a drive letter pointing to
the actual music files, and if it is a way of filtering out unwanted
stuff, why does my catalog contain all the music and not only mp3
files?

When the starting folder is not used, you don't need a drive letter.
When Starting folder is used, the drive letter and mapping is only used
to enable the Browse button for an intuitive interface which help
prevent errors. Another option would be to not use a drive letter and
let the user enter the path manually. Which, will result in path errors
(on linux NAS based devices these are also case sensitive) and will
cause strange ACC behaviour (no album art etc).

The actual reference to the album art is not related to the drive
letter (in ACC v1.x this was actually the case as this version would
offer an option to link to album art files or get them from SBS).

For reasons of simplicity I made the drive letter requirement mandatory
although not required when not using a starting folder.

Looking at your ACC log file again I see that you have an incorrect
full physical path specified which may explain inconsistent behavior as
you are right. ACC should only show the mp3 files because you have
specified drive M:\ as starting folder.

You have entered 'mp3' as full physical path which is not a path
notation. Press the test button on the remote server option screen and
an example is displayed on the bottom of the ACC screen of a path as
stored in the database. Use this syntax to specify the full physical
path to the folder that is shared (and which you access from the
windows machine using drive M). Also refer to the balloon help at the
'full physical path' option.

But I won't be using the filter option very often. I intend to make a

So, I only want to use the 'From Date' in the optional filters and
leave the 'starting folder' empty.

Doing this will create the original ODBC error.

There is no way to remove the drive letter in the 'Remote Server/NAS

I think it's accidently working now because of an unintended

No, it is NOT smooth sailing.

1) All of my Favorites were deleted.
2) All of my Applications were reset. I now have a full list of them,
including many I did not want and those I had (iPlayer, etc.) are
gone.
3) The Staff Favorites which used to be a help in adding new streams is

I will need hours to return to get my system back to the state it was

I am an original SLiMP3 owner and have upgraded over the years as new

Thanks for nothing.

The ODBC error is gone. I can make a catalog with only a 'From Date'
entered and leaving all other fields blank.

But I've noticed something else and I'm not sure if AAC is supposed to
do that:

1. I've been experimenting with the printing options (Maximum track on
row page and Maximum album rows per page) to see if I can print to PDF
without the occasional blank page.
2. Because of the size of my music collection I restrict the number of
albums by entering a 'From Date' (a full catalog takes about 30 minutes
to create).

But the first time I create a catalog after the printing options
change, AAC doesn't use the 'From Date'. I get a full catalog. The
second time I start AAC (without changing any option and leaving the
'From Date' unchanged) I do get a catalog from the set 'From Date'.

Subsequent runs of AAC with other dates give catalogs from the set
'From Date' until I change another setting.

Even changing the 'Header Background' on the Layout section produces a
full catalog at the first run and partial catalogs (starting at the set
'From Date') at subsequent runs.

Is this expected behaviour ?

Nope this is not expected behavior. Good testing! I'll create a fix for

Yes, I agree, not being able to easily save a selection to favorites is
a real minus. Maybe they will reinstate this feature. It is an

Re: [slim] Upgrade to- and use of 7.5.0=Smooth sailing

2010-04-10 Thread garym

I can still add a stream to favorites. I can do this in the controller,
by navigating to name of the station/stream, holding the center button
down and I get a menu that has add to end, play next, play, save to
favorites, etc. Can do the same thing in SQUEEZEPLAY from the + button
in now playing. Or in iPENG, etc.

To be fair, if I'm already Playing the stream and hit the center
button, I don't get the same options. So the key is to back out to the
name of the stream rather than being within the streamthen you can
add to favorites.

[slim] 7.5 help

2010-04-10 Thread GoCubs72

So, I love the idea of the Squeezebox -- so much so that I own a Radio,
2 Booms and a Duet.

Since I received the Radio, I've been REALLY let down -- we all know
the problems with the alarm - and then it took forever to get new
firmware.

And, now, 7.5 is out --- everything seemed to be working 'ok' for me -
and I was sick of it asking me to update the software on all of my
devices, so I did it.

Now, I play a song on Pandora and it stops -- after every song. I have
better stability with Sirius -- but it still stops playing after about
45 minutes.

Can someone please help? I'm pretty close to returning these things
since no one on the Support line was able to help.

Thanks

[slim] I preferred the devices slim!

2010-04-10 Thread adamslim

I have a SB3, 2 Booms, Duet and Radio. Doubtless I'll get a Touch in
due course... but... I don't particularly like the new system in the
Controller/Radio...

To expand...

I loved the configurability of the SB3 - they way you could control
everything from the server, it remembered everything through all the
upgrades and you could get it to do whatever you wanted. Plugins like
SaverSwitcher, TitleSwitcher and the like have really made it a joy to
look at, and really informative. And easy to read from ten feet away.

The Controller just isn't as configurable, and it forgets all the
custom settings every time you upgrade the firmware. I can't get info
from my custom tags onto its now playing screen, and have to live with
the way it scrolls (much too slow) and doesn't show enough text.

I know, I understand that the new screens are prettier and hardly
anyone configures their stuff as much as I have, so this is probably a
good commercial move. I just thought I'd have a little moan is all!
I'm not going to say that the baby is lost, just, well, I'm tempted to
hoover up a few SB3s when the bottom falls out of the market.
Ironically, I may well end up slaving one to my Touch to use as a
screen...

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-04-10 Thread mrthreeplates

Love using squeezeslave on my win7 HTPC, works great (thanks!). I'm
using
ASIO4all, version 133 of squeezeslave.

Problem: I have noticed from time to time (once every few hours or
so),
all of the sound will stop. If I look at the web gui, it thinks slave
is still playing. It seems to stay silent until I do something.
Hitting next track or seeking to another place in the track will
resume playback.

I've noticed this on Squeeze Server 7.4.2 and still on 7.5.1 (running
on a WinXP sp3 server). I've seen this problem on older versions of
squeezeslave and with / without asio.

Most of my files are cue/flacs and I do use a custom-conv file to do
on-the-fly HDCD/de-emphasis (if that matters).

Just curious if others have seen this.

Thanks,

George

[slim] Strange noise when connecting Transporter directly

2010-04-10 Thread marsboer

Hi

I normally connect my Transporter to my Electrocompaniet AW400
monoblocks through my Yamaha RX-V3900 surround receiver and have no
issues.

Today I tried to connect Transporter directly to AW400 which I have
done several times before without issues, but for some reason I get a
really loud continous noise in my right speaker, unaffected by volume
changes. It seems like a rather loud 50hz so it's probably some
grounding thing. I tried moving all my cables without it affecting the
noise at all. I am using unbalanced connections on the Transporter and
RCA to XLR on the AW400 side (they do not have unbalanced inputs)

When connecting back through my Yamaha receiver everything is OK again.
Very strange?

Any ideas?

Re: [slim] Upgrade to- and use of 7.5.0=Smooth sailing

2010-04-10 Thread Brian Ritchie

After some misfortune with a previous upgrade (I forget which one,
perhaps to 7.4.0?) I was wary of upgrading, and sat at 7.4.1 because I
couldn't see anything in the 7.4.2 change log that interested me. I
wasn't sure about 7.5.0 either, but wondered whether some of the
various performance improvements and bugfixes might make things
better.

Before upgrading, I used the Control Panel to clean out the cache
(which took a while). After that, my usual scan for new/changed took
over an hour, instead of its usual 8 minutes or so; and I was left with
some odd effects (most noticeably, my Receiver disappeared from all but
the Info webpage and the Controller); though all seemed well after I'd
hibernated the server and turned off the network overnight.

After all that, the upgrade to 7.5.0 was trivial, taking all of 5
minutes; and everything seems to be working fine. (One minor problem
was that the Controller balked at the installation of its firmware
update, but got through it OK once I'd turned it off and on again.)

I seem to see a big improvement in the responsiveness of the webiface
(though this might be imagined, or could have been due to the
cache-wipe, for all I know). I'm pretty certain that the scrolling
behaviour of the Controller is now much better - I'm far less likely to
overshoot by more than a few artists, for example.

All in all, a pleasant surprise. So far!

Many thanks to the Logitech team for continuing to support this great
stuff.

SlimDevices and Logitech never talk about future products, dates, etc.
If anyone claims they know, they don't.

My bet is that if you are waiting until then, you will be waiting until
the product after the Touch is available.

BTW: There is zero need for 11n for audio wireless.

No, the tip was probably for the Radio where the + button brings up the
context menu. That doesn't work on the Boom.

IIRC there used to be a favorites option when you pressed the right
arrow button on the Now Playing screen, but that got lost in SBS 7.5
since they are now displaying the useless Radiotime menu instead of the

802.11n is a superset of 802.11g. They are the same except 11n works
on 5.8ghz and can bond several channels at once. Unlike 11g vs 11b,
there is no backwards compatibility or speed problems mixing 11g and
11n

Unfortunately, product marketing doesn't make this clear. This is to
convince you to buy new stuff.
