Just wanted to post and say this is an amazing new feature - something
I've been wanting for ages and it works brilliantly. We listen to a
lot of podcasts and this makes it really simple to try new ones out.

Yes, it should merge the info, between the local library and iTunes.

Problems sometimes arise on non-standard setups (where iTunes is being
run on a different box from the Squeezebox software for example) but
generally it should work fine. Also, if it worked before and you
haven't changed your setup (other than installing 7.5.2) I can't think
of a reason why it would behave differently.

If you've done a new install, check that you have properly filled in the
Music Library setting in Settings/Basic Settings. If there's no Music
Library folder set (or the software can't access the folder for some
reason) then the Music Folder option won't appear.

MusicIP has worked like this for a long time - yes it's a pain and now
that development of MIP has stopped, unlikely to change.

Pretty sure that EasyTag has an option to replace characters which you
can use to replace the accented chars. Only semi automatic as you
still need to tell it which chars to replace, but a lot easier than
doing it manually!

Re: [slim] What If Logitech Partnered with VortexBox?

2010-04-23 Thread Siduhe

I'm another recent convert to Vortexbox. We had a perfectly usable
server powering the software before, but it was a power hog (the BIOS
didn't support WOL) and not exactly user friendly for my better half.
It's a very, very slick solution. Plug and play for those that want a
turnkey solution but with the ability to mess around under the bonnet
if you want.

As for the USB point - I haven't found that to be an issue at all -
I've see the thread on here but it doesn't reflect my experience.
There are some fairly clear instructions to follow on the vortexbox
forums and then all works as expected. Although I agree that the
developers may make that aspect more plug and play in future too.

Since the Squeezebox implementation only supports the Last.fm Radio
service (which is unaffected by the new changes) and has never
supported the on-demand streaming service - I'd be surprised if
anything changes in the short term for Squeezebox users.

There are some interesting comments in the Last.fm blog basically
saying that the new vision is for Last.fm to act like a portal and to
connect users to any of the relevant streaming options in their country
for every track - that may suggest the Radio service will be
discontinued in the future (or at least it's no longer at the core of
what Last.fm wants to do).

If the info is correct in the web interface after a rescan but not on
the controller, that suggests a problem with the cache in the controller
rather than a problem with the tags generally.

Have you tried a factory reset of the controller (you will need to
re-set it up again in full though)?

Re: [slim] Proper scoring for troll postings, per seanadams

2010-03-18 Thread Siduhe

Aha! Found it - who wants to have a go at a non-audiophile forum
version?:

You claim that an
( ) audible
( ) measurable
( ) hypothetical

improvement in sound quality can be attained by:
( ) upsampling
( ) non-oversampling
( ) increasing word size
( ) vibration dampening
( ) bi-wiring
( ) replacing the external power supply
( ) using a different lossless format
( ) decompressing on the server
( ) removing bits of metal from skull
( ) using ethernet instead of wireless
( ) inverting phase
( ) reversing “polarity” of resistors
( ) ultra fast recovery rectifiers
( ) installing bigger connectors
( ) installing Black Gate caps
( ) installing ByBee filters
( ) installing hospital-grade AC jacks
( ) defragmenting the hard disk
( ) running older firmware
( ) using exotic materials in cabinet
( ) bronze heatsinks
( ) violin lacquer
( ) $500 power cords
( ) a universally applicable omnidirectional tweeter

Your idea will not work. Specifically, it fails to account for:
( ) the placebo effect
( ) your ears honestly aren't that good
( ) your idea has already been thoroughly disproved
( ) modern DACs upsample anyway
( ) those products are pure snake oil
( ) lossless formats, by definition, are lossless
( ) those measurements are bogus
( ) sound travels much slower than you think
( ) electric signals travel much faster than you think
( ) that's not how binary arithmetic works
( ) that's not how TCP/IP works
( ) the Nyquist theorem
( ) the can't polish a turd theorem
( ) bits are bits

You will try to defend you idea by:
( ) claiming that your ears are “trained”
( ) claiming immunity to psychological/physiological factors that
affect everyone else
( ) name-calling
( ) criticizing spelling/grammar

Your subsequent arguments will probably appeal in desperation to such
esoterica as:
( ) jitter
( ) EMI
( ) thermal noise
( ) quantum mechanical effects
( ) resonance
( ) existentialism
( ) nihilism
( ) communism
( ) cosmic rays

And you will then change the subject to:
( ) theories are not the same as facts
( ) measurements don't tell everything
( ) not everyone is subject to the placebo effect
( ) blind testing is dumb
( ) you can't prove what I can't hear
( ) science isn't everything

Rather than engage in this tired discussion, I suggest exploring the
following factors which are more likely to improve sound quality in your
situation:
( ) room acoustics
( ) source material
( ) type of speakers
( ) speaker placement
( ) crossover points
( ) equalization
( ) Q-tips
( ) psychoanalysis
( ) trepanation

Have you specified a static IP for your vortexbox instance? I have
also seen this behaviour, but only when using a static IP (and
regardless of whether the static IP is outside or inside the DCHP
range).

My solution was to change back to IP being allocated by DCHP using the
network manager, then redo the upgrade, then reallocate a static IP. I
do this before every upgrade and it works ok.

As far as I can tell from reading around the subject, the eth0 error
message is an occasional problem with Fedora 10.

Re: [slim] no internetradio, though stream works on notebook

2010-02-27 Thread Siduhe

Assuming that you are connected to the software, not MySqueezebox.com,
have a look at the server.log file (there is a link under
Settings/Information in the web interface). What do you see in the log
when you try to play a radio stream?

The most likely cause is that something is stopping the software from
connecting to the internet - this can happen if the software starts up
before your internet connection is ready or if you have antivirus or
firewall software configured in a certain way, or even if you've put in
the wrong mysqueezebox.com password somewhere. However, some more info
needed on your setup to narrow it down. The log file will help but also
what hardware you are running the software on (PC on windows? NAS?),
what version of the software, any antivirus or security software and
whether you have checked your mysb.com settings are correct in the
Settings page.

The other basic bit of troubleshooting is to stop the software, reboot
your router and let everything reconnect, then restart the software.
Any improvement?

I remember seeing a similar post recently, but now can't find it. The
normal problem with playlists is that the path isn't consistent between
the way that the software sees your library and the way the playlist
sees the library.

As a basic check - can you locate a file which is in the lossless
folder and should appear in a playlist and drill down using the
Squeezecenter web interface until you see the track details including
file path.

Is this path exactly the same as the file path that is in the playlist
to the same track (just open up the playlist in a text editor like
Editpad or Notepad). The squeezecenter software needs absolute not
relative paths.

If the file paths aren't the same - that's your problem. You need to
make the playlist reflect the file path to your track that the
Squeezecenter library expects. Find/replace will do the job but you may
need to change the path you're using in MediaMonkey for new playlists.

If the paths are the same, then it's possible the playlist scanning
isn't following the shortcut for some reason - if so it sounds like a
bug. Can you look in scanner.log and do a playlist only rescan? The
error messages should give an idea what the problem is.

As JJZolx says, the Squeezecenter software cannot alter your files (by
design). You need to remove the files from your Music Library directory
and do a clear and rescan. If you want to ignore all files of a certain
type (i.e. do not include any mp3s in the library) try
Settings/Advanced/File Types/Disabled Audio Extensions in the web UI.

Re: [slim] Cannot Browse Music Folder

2010-02-06 Thread Siduhe

Starting with the basics - I assume you have entered the folder
name/path in Music Library?

Is the path to a folder on the same disc as you are running
Squeezecenter or is it a networked path? If networked, are you using a
mapped drive path or an UNC path?

There was a problem using top level music folders with spaces in the
names or "national" characters, but I think it was fixed in the release
version of 7.4.1 - are you using an earlier nightly or the release
version?

Re: [slim] anti virus software affecting SB3 performance??

2010-02-04 Thread Siduhe

Anti-virus products, particularly those with "on access scanning"
features can definitely affect the performance of the software used to
run the SB3 on a local server.

The most normal problems are with the anti-virus stopping scans from
completing, but your problem sounds a bit different. However, if
uninstalling Rapport fixed the problem, and you want to reinstall it,
you need to look at how to configure it (Rapport) to ignore the
Squeezecenter processes (which may include ignoring Mysql and/or *.myi
and *.myd files).

Presumably because you had the option to keep the MySB.com and SBS

the webUI - I always keep this disabled for that very reason. Should be

What surprises me is that the MySB.com settings overwrote the SBS

Re: [slim] very slow scanning

2010-01-28 Thread Siduhe

A few things could cause this - a bit more info would help as suggested
above. The scanner.log and server.log files may give you a clue.

Are you using itunes or MusicIP integration or just the basic scanner?

If your scan doesn't "take" (i.e. the scan starts up every time you
start up Squeezecenter software) - that may suggest that there is a
problem saving your scan cache. Windows 2008 is a server version of the
software, right? If you go to the web interface, Settings/Information
where is the cache being saved?

The other thing to check (and again the scanner.log should help) is
that you don't have any recursive file references - that can really hang
up the scanner. Enable the d_scan field in Debugging, open up the
log.txt field (at the top of the debugging page) and run a full "Clear
everything and rescan". Keep an eye on the scan as it runs through. If
you have a recursive link, or a bunch of files which are no longer where
you used to put them, or a bunch of playlists which have moved (all
three of which can be a cause of the behaviour you are witnessing) -
this will show up in the log.

The built in (Logitech) Last.fm app only works in UK, US, and DE - as

The limitation is that you have to run the Squeezebox Server software

rotho, I think it is fixed in 7.5.

I changed tracks 4-6 of an album with genre "breaks" to "breakbeat".
Then navigated from Genres/Compilations/Breakbeat (I use Compilations
rather than Various Artists in the software settings)

I then see the album with only tracks 4-6. If I press play on track 4,
track 4 plays. Similarly, if I press play on the album (under
Genres/Compliations/Breakbeat, only tracks 4-6 play.

Think this is the behaviour you are looking for?

So it will make it into the release version of the software when 7.5 is

Re: [slim] Playlists not showing up

2009-12-31 Thread Siduhe

The most common problem with importing playlists created via another app
is that the file paths need to be consistent between the Squeezebox
Server Music Library and the playlist - so if the playlist has as the
path to your music files as "\\mediaserver\site" and Squeezecenter Music
Library is set up to read "C:\site\", the playlist won't work when you
import it.

Squeezebox Server has no way of knowing that the paths are to the same
song that is already in your library with a different file name.

Luckily - there's an easy solution. A playlist is simply a text file
with links to the files. If you open up the playlist in a text editor
like EditPad or Notepad, and find/replace the path in the playlist from
whatever it is to "C:\site\" (in the example above - you will need to
work out what the file path is on your particular setup, and then do a
playlist only rescan.

If you run windows, I have a small script which will semi-automate the
find/replace process for you.

Another issue is if your playlist is set up with relative paths (i.e.
the file paths start with "~" rather than the full path. Squeezebox
Server needs absolute paths AFAIK (there is an open bug for this, but
don't think it's yet implemented).

Re: [slim] Playlist creation

2009-12-22 Thread Siduhe

Before you create playlists using Squeezebox Server, you need to have
entered a playlist directory in Settings and make sure it is
read/writeable by SBS.

If you want to create your playlists in Squeezecenter, see this
thread:

Using Web Interface:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62042&highlight=playlist

You create a playlist using the Controller in a similar way - add songs
to the Now Playlist list, then scroll down to the end of the Now Playing
list and there is an option to save it.

You also create playlists using other bits of software (m3u or .pls
format) and move them into the playlist folder which SBS reads. However,
the file paths will need to be consistent between Squeezecenter and
whichever sofware you are using - so if Winamp (for example) sees the
path to your music files as C:/Music and Squeezecenter Music Library is
set up to read //Music/ or similar, a playlist created in Winamp won't
work. Once you've created your playlist in the other music management
program, move the playlist into whichever folder you've set up in
Settings/Playlist Folder and do a playlist only rescan.

See also the Playlist Manager plugin which I think is working with the
current release of SBS and which extends some functionality.

Squeezeplay can be used to control any of your players, so you need to
make sure you've selected the tracks to play on Squeezeplay specifically
(rather than on any of your other players)? Could that be the problem?

You need to install a bit of software.

There are a couple of options - Squeezeplay (which is still in

for Mac and Windows right now) or Softsqueeze (which is deprecated, but
still works for me).

Glad you got it sorted, kind of...

Is this with local files in your library or using something like
Rhapsody or Napster? I get different behaviour with Napster for example
(and understand this is as result of a combination of bugs).

Also, do you have any third party plugins installed? Some of these may
change the default behaviour for the add button.

Add button behaviour varies depending on which bit of hardware you're
using (and yes, there have been lengthy discussions about this, but it's
a done decision).

I suspect press and hold ADD may work for you on the Boom for add to

Re: [slim] Internet Radio Gone

2009-12-08 Thread Siduhe

Can you access any internet radio stations via Squeezebox Server? If
not, have you tried stopping the Squeezebox server and then restarting
it (alternatively rebooting your server)? What sometimes happens is
that Squeezebox Server starts up before the box running it has an
internet connection available. It is therefore set up to run as if no
internet is available, even though the internet connection has
subsequently become available.

If this doesn't work, what does the server.log file say when you try to
play one of these stations? Could be a DNS issue.

Re: [slim] Split album

2009-11-21 Thread Siduhe

Couple of other things to check:

Are the files tagged with MusicBrainz Picard at all? There is a
specific issue in 7.4 if files have been tagged using an old version of
MusicBrainz Picard. The newer versions of Picard tag your files in a
slightly different way and this is what is now supported in
Squeezecenter. Running the files through the latest version of
MusicBrainz Picard and rescan.

Do the files have Disc tags at all and/or are they compilation files?
If one of the files has a DISC=1 tag and the rest don't, that may give
the behaviour you are seeing.

Finally, are you sure the file is split into a different album - rather
than duplicated in both albums? If the track appears twice , the most
likely cause is that the duplicate track is also listed in a playlist.

When SC scans your music library folder and playlists, it adds all
individual tracks to your Music Library. SC determines what an
individual track is by the file path and name. If your playlists
reference your songs in a different way to your music library folder, SC
does not know they are the same song but assumes they are two different
songs.

So M:/Media/Song.mp3 in a playlist and //ENT/Media/Song.mp3 (music
library) will show up twice in the library.

Easy to sort. Amend your playlists so they have the same file path to
your songs as SC has set as your music library (in the example above
//ENT/Media/Song.mp3). Any text editor which supports find/replace will
do this however (just open up the playlist, amend the file paths and do
a full clear and rescan).

Depending on what the other wireless devices are, it may not be a
complete comparison. The Boom requires a steady, uninterrupted stream
of signal and a low signal strength may be perfectly satisfactory and a
high strength does not guarantee quality. Simply repositioning the
router up a bit can help a lot. A laptop computer (for example) gets
data in intermittent bursts rather than a continuous stream, so will
usually function better and show better signal strength than the Boom
(because it measure the strength differently).

If you're stuck with your router position and already on the best
channel, then upgrading your router may be a good option. I get much
better coverage from a recent Netgear RangeMax (not dual band) than my
old Belkin router.

Re: [slim] Wireless performance on mixed networks: answers!

dsly, before you shell out for a new router - have you tried the basic
troubleshooting steps set out in the wiki? Things like repositioning
the router (higher up better, away from other electronics) and changing
the channel can make a massive difference, depending on your
environment. I have two other wireless networks near me on channels 12
and 13. 1 or 6 should be my best channel, but for some reason, the
channel 7 signal is much better.

I also have my router in the middle of my house (i.e. the middle of 3
floors) which works better than having it on the ground floor where most
of the electronics are.

Many routers will allow you to assign a static IP for certain bits of

everything else. Just make sure the static IP is outside the range you

Can you give us the usual details - particularly what version of
Squeezebox server you are running, and whether you were connected to the
Squeezebox server or mysqueezebox.com when the reboot loop started?

Assuming you have tried the factory reset as well and checked the IP
address isn't conflicting with anything else on the network?

The last time I had this problem (not with an SB3 but a testing unit) I
had been listening to Napster (so a protected WMA stream). When I
managed to delete the stream from the playlist using the web interface,
the reboot loop stopped.

Re: [slim] SB3 bricked? (perpetual reboot)

2009-11-07 Thread Siduhe

Even on a wired network it will still have an IP address (assuming it's
wired to a router) - or is it directly attached to the box that is
running Squeezebox Server?

If you're using a router - may be worth trying powering down the SB3,
rebooting the router, then bringing the SB3 back up with a full reset.

Also, is the firmware that the problem SB3 is running the same as the
others?

That's most of the basic troubleshooting I can suggest -
supp...@slimdevices.com may have more ideas, but it does sound like it
could be hardware if everything else is working fine on the same system.

Re: [slim] SB3 bricked? (perpetual reboot)

2009-11-07 Thread Siduhe

EL, have you tried the factory reset that alcor mentions?

1. Disconnect the power
2. Press and hold "Add" on the remote
3. Reconnect the power
4. Release the "Add" button when you see "Factory reset..." on the
screen

You will lose your settings on the SB3 (menu customisation etc).

If this doesn't do the job, there are a couple of things that may be
causing this behaviour. Couple of things to check is that the IP address
of your SB3 isn't conflicting with anything else on your network
(assuming you're running wireless).

Also, check the power supply is properly seated in the SB3 - do you
have an alternative supply you could try?

Finally, is there anything in the server.log file when the SB3 reboots
(error messages)? If you have an old plugin that isn't compatible with
7.4.1 that might cause a reboot and the server.log file should show this
up.

Re: [slim] Streaming from computer's line out

2009-10-21 Thread Siduhe

There are ways to do this - search for the WaveInput plugin for Windows
and Linux for example which is squeezebox specific. You can also use
Icecast to create a stream which the Squeezebox can tune into.

However, streaming this way will alway introduce a networking delay so
it is usually not practical to use to watch DVD as audio will be out of
sync with video.

If you have a Boom, you could use the "Line-in" port to play audio from
the PC speakers.

There is a possibility of using something like VLC or mplayer which can
alter video/audio relative timing but it is a bit hit or miss.

Re: [slim] New Music

2009-10-20 Thread Siduhe

New Music is determined by the date/timestamp of the individual files.
Many good tagging programs can be set either to modify the date/time
stamp of the files when you update tags or not.

Re: MusicIP - that depends whether you are only using the MIP
functionality to populate your Squeezecenter library or whether you are
combining a Squeezecenter scan with a MIP scan. It sounds from your
description as if you are doing the latter.

If so, Squeezecenter should only go off the date/timestamp of the files
to populate New Music. If you are amending file tags and those songs
aren't showing up in New Music, check whether your tagging program is
set up not to modify the file properties.

Napster have developed an iphone streaming app (as opposed to
m.napster.com which is download only) and are in the process of
negotiating the various rights necessary to release it. I've never had
any problems with Napster support but to be fair I've never had to do
more than use them to convert my account between service levels.

Spotify support in Squeezecenter is a regular enhancement request, and
developers have said they would like to add it. However, the current
released Spotify API isn't up to the job.

It's even worse than that - there used to be an album view, but it was
removed with the last big software update. Huge pushback from UK users
but apparently driven by two things - making it consistent with the US
service and most of their feedback from focus groups was that people
listen to "tracks" not albums. Vinyl vs ipod gen, I guess, but no idea
why they can't just add it back.

In terms of how reliable the Napster service is via Squeezebox? Very

I wish that the Napster Library (i.e. the repository of tracks you've

only view by track or artist) but that's my only minor niggle.

We've had something similar in the EU (not quite so explicit but the
intended effect is the same) for some time, care of the Unfair
Commercial Practices Directive. It contains a general ban on unfair or
misleading advertising practices including falsely or misleading
representing that your only connection to a company is as a consumer.

In the UK the Directive is enacted by the Consumer Protection from
Unfair Trading Regulations and includes a specific prohibition on
"misleading conduct" which is theoretically wide enough to include
failing to mention that you have received a free piece of hardware from
a company.

However, there is also de minimis requirement i.e. the behaviour must
be likely materially to distort or be likely to materially distort the
average consumer's economic behaviour.

A more sensible way to approach things IMHO.

Re the Controller, CharlieG is right. If you go into the screen on the
Controller that shows the entire active playlist (not the now playing
screen), there is an option at the bottom to either Save or Clear
playlist. You do need more than one item in the playlist for this
option to be available. If you only have a single item in the playlist,
you can press the + button to remove it from the playlist.

Perhaps I can add a real world example. I have a whole mix of Slim
Devices hardware round the house - SB1/SB2/Classic/Controller/Boom in
normal use. During the beta testing, I set up the Radio in my kitchen
(taking one of the Classic's out of rotation). I also have a weekly
cleaner, who has never even touched or showed the slightest interest in
any of the previous hardware. Within two weeks she had got to grips
with the Radio (no prompting from me), selecting local music and radio
and (big grrr here) even programming some new presets. She didn't
actually realise it was internet radio at first but instinctively got to
grips with it.

The kicker is that, even after I've shown her how the Classic and Boom
work (i.e. the same way) she won't use them - just doesn't get it. She
carries the radio round the house with her, plugging it in as she goes.
The Radio works for her, period. It may not make a huge amount of
sense, but there it is.

I'm a big fan of the Classic too, but the Touch works pretty well for
distance use. It has a proximity sensor so when you are up close it
uses a small sized font, and when you use a remote (and the proximity
sensor is not triggered) it uses a larger font. Easily usable from 5m
imho for selecting and playing music. Now Playing screen may need a bit
of work for distance use but it's not far off.

When I started using Squeezeboxes, there was no Squeezenetwork at all.
You had to use Squeezecenter if you wanted to connect to internet radio
or similar. If Squeezenetwork was finished as a service tomorrow, you
could still use your existing hardware with Squeezecenter, and if
Squeezecenter was withdrawn tomorrow, you could still use the latest
iteration of the software for as long as your computer hardware would
support it. I know this isn't quite the point you are making, but it's
not true to say the SB's could be reduced to paperweights.

The potential difference is that you brought your Squeezeboxes with the
intention of only ever using Squeezenetwork, which I didn't. That being
so, I would imagine you understood the potential limitations of the
service.

Squeezenetwork is not a replacement for Squeezecenter by a long, long
way - it is essentially a light-featured external server with support
for internet radio and certain music services. Personally, I do wonder
if Logitech should do more to make this clearer to prospective
purchaser. I also agree that Squeezenetwork functionality could be
improved with things like playlists, but I suspect the changes that
would be needed to support individual playlists are not trivial.

I hope this comes across ok - I'm not disagreeing with what you say at
all (well, other than the paperweight bit), but trying to explain why I
expect SN to stay feature light compared to Squeezecenter.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox and Spotify?

2009-09-19 Thread Siduhe

If you search, there is a long thread on this already (and a load more
besides) - will try to summarise my understanding:

A Spotify plugin (third party or native) depends on Spotify releasing a
useful API for developers. What has so far been publicly released is not
an complete API, and is limited to a specific architecture (x86 C) so no
good for Squeezenetwork and certainly not cross platform, so next to
useless for SC (although there is at least one poster who disagrees with
me on that).

I have no idea what private development may be going on with Slim
Devices or anyone else, but SD developers have said it is functionality
they would certainly considering adding if the commercial arrangements
and architecture are there. It has been a regular request and there is
an enhancement request on bugzilla that you can follow for updates.

In the meantime, DSBridge or Waveinput plugins will allow you to stream
output from Spotify to your Squeezeboxes.

Re: [slim] Tweet this album/song option?

Twitter is the only "social network" I use - I like my online/real
personae to stay fairly separate, not least because of the work that I
do and the company I work for.

The best thing about it is that it's an amazing real-time search
engine, and you pick up stuff you'd never hear about otherwise. To give
an example, last weekend I found myself lying on a blanket in the middle
of a hidden park in the centre of London with 2,000 other people, most
of whom had dressed up to suit the theme, watching a cult film I'd never
heard of (to my shame!) and really enjoyed.

Now this may not be your thing, but it is mine, and I wouldn't have
found it without Twitter. I also mainly follow people with interests
similar to mine, not celebrities which makes a difference I think.

Re: [slim] Tweet this album/song option?

2009-09-05 Thread Siduhe

I use twitterfeed to post my recently played tracks (using the Last.fm
RSS feed) - however I have it set up to run every 12 hours, and only one
track gets posted each time. Figure that's a reasonable balance between
putting up music you like against filling up people's feed with info
they don't want or need.

A Twitter app was raised when the Facebook app went into beta testing.
The response from one of the devs was that it there will probably be a
Twitter app at some point in the future, but Facebook was the marketing
department's preference (which makes sense imo - even allowing for
Twitter's amazing growth in recent months, Facebook is the largest
social network).

Re: [slim] Original Squeezebox doesn't work with Apple dual band routers with WPA2?

2009-09-03 Thread Siduhe

Gotcha.

How are the two parts of the network identified? Do both have separate
SSIDs?
Are they on the same subnets?

It sounds like the Squeezebox can "see" the a/g/n part of the network
ok, but just won't connect - is that right? If you unsecure the a/g/n
part of the network, does the Squeezebox connect ok? Sorry if this is
grandmother sucking eggs, but you haven't got any special characters or
trailing spaces in the password have you?

And not just when bringing products in. Doing what you need to comply
with directives like WEEE (and to a lesser extent) ROHS for end of life
stuff adds potentially significant costs to selling electronic
components in Europe.

Re: [slim] Original Squeezebox doesn't work with Apple dual band routers with WPA2?

2009-09-03 Thread Siduhe

I'm a bit confused by your post - and this is probably me not
understanding the TimeCapsule setup - you say that the A/G/N bit you
want to connect to has WPA2 enabled, but then you refer to it as "open"
portion. Does open mean "unsecured"?

Assuming that the part of the network you want to connect to is WPA2
secured, when you say "original" squeezebox, which one?

If you have an SB1 (the Squeezebox of the Hardware comparison) rather
than an SB2 or SB3 (now called Classic), then it only supports WEP. Not
much chance of an update to sort that out, I'm afraid.

If you are using a Classic/SB3, that supports supports WPA Personal,
WPA2-AES and 64/128-bit WEP encryption. What type of WPA2 do you have
set up?

The Touch replaces the Classic which will be phased out (as stock runs
down):

Re: [slim] Help/Sad - SB3 just "bricked"

2009-09-02 Thread Siduhe

The Logitech warranty is "your Logitech hardware product shall be free
from defects in material and workmanship for two (2) years, beginning
from the date of purchase." I believe this is worldwide, but it may
depend where you purchased it (as local law requirements are different
the world over)

It gets more complicated when you've purchased it from from a third
party vendor, who normally only refund or exchange for one year, but the
manufacturer warranty should still be valid for an additional 12
months.

Slim Devices (i.e. the division of Logitech based in the US) used to do
out of warranty repairs for a $90 fee or similar, but not clear if this
is still offered - others outside the US have reportedly been told by
Logitech that repairs are not available. Let us know how you get on
with support and others may be able to advise you.
