Re: [slim] Re-buffering

2012-07-30 Thread Zten

After all these years of wireless, I finally killed the beast of
inconsistency. I bought a 50 foot ethernet cable online, drilled some
holes in the floor, and routed the cable from the computer in the den
all the way over to my now ancient SB2 in the family room. Viola! now
flawless, never interrupted music. The WIFI traffic in my neighborhood
is just too congested. No more worries abut the tunes dying when I have
a party!

My SB2 had been working fine for months, now all the sudden it is
re-buffering constantly. like its starved for BW. Any clues what might
be wrong?

Re: [slim] Re-buffering

2012-06-03 Thread Zten

well, I used the Wifi analyzer app in my cell phone and it has a
spectrum analyzer type display. It claimed my channel was fairly free.
There was a signal about 20dB down that would occasionally pop in the
view, but that is all. I am on ch 4. Ch 1 looked completely open, so I
changed the channel to that and now its working fine again. So I guess
there was some interference or something, but its hard to tell for sure.
Thanks!

Re: [slim] The next streaming music solution from Logitech

2011-10-18 Thread Zten

I think it is still a good question. It seems cell phones are now the
competitor and not just a squeezebox remote control.

With ZUMOCAST on the Droid Bionic (aka MOTOCAST on the Droid Razr), my
phone basically becomes a squeezebox. I can stream any and all of the
same songs from my computer hard drive to my phone (anywhere in the
world over WiFi or the cellualr network) -- even FLAC.

Or with all your music in the cloud, you can do the saem thing with
Apple or Android.

The squeezebox guys need some new innovations!

Re: [slim] The 7.6.x lingering issues thread

2011-08-08 Thread Zten

SW is never perfect, its constantly needing improvement. However, I
would agree. 7.6.0 was not ready -- not even close. Like so many
organizations, it seems the squeezebox development community is
scattered around the globe. Still, it all has to come together and go
through some kind of rigorous testing before release. Does that happen?
It seems these gross library scanning issues would be caught by an even
very modest amount of validation testing.

So what is going to be done differently before the next release is
deemed ready?

[slim] The Coolest

2010-03-26 Thread Zten

I have had a SB2 since 2007. I love it. I haven't updated the slim
server in a few years. I had a bad experince in 2008 where a whole
Saturday got eaten up by an upgrade gone awry... I vowed if it ain't
broke, don't fix it and no longer updated the slim server.

Anyway, I have a DROID phone and heard about the free squeeze-droid
app. However it would not work with my very old slim server. So, I
threw caution to the wind and did the upgrade. I am glad to report even
upgrading from version 6.5.something to the latest version went
seemlessly. Then I synced up my droid in 2 minutes and viola, it was
rocking. Controlling my SB2 flawlessly. And so responsive, too. I had
used the nokia N770 for a few years. Its amazing how much better this
works!

So, just wanted to post some good news and commend you all for what you
do. It is amazing when a 4.5 year old peice of HW can be upgraded for
free and be so new and fresh! Awesome!

[slim] Duet Controller or Nokia N770?

2008-03-17 Thread Zten

I use the N770 currently for controlling my Squeeze Box II when I am too
far away to use the IR remote. It works pretty well, except for issues
with latency. I tried many recommendations from the kind folks on this
forum, but nothing really impoved it. Does the Duet Controller have any
issues with latency? Is latency a function of the WLAN Mode? I have a
wireless B/G network, but I think alot of he time it is dropped down to
B mode since I have B mode devices on the network.

So my question is what is better about the Duet Controller than the
Nokia? If it for sure will be fast, that would be a great plus. Any
other reasons I should buy it?

BEST album art.

So my next request will be to do VIDEO in album art so we can see the

Re: [slim] Why is cover art so important?

2008-02-22 Thread Zten

I love the cover art. I think it is in fact one (maybe the only?)
negative aspect of the conversion to all digital. It is a lost art. I
use the nokia as a controller and really enjoy seeing the cover art of
the song I am plying. In fact, since Color TFTs are so cheap these
days, I'd love a SB with a huge TFT display (like as big as the old
12x 12 album would be so cool). Then the cover art would sit there,
huge for all to see, and change as each new song gets played.

It would be just like the old vinyl days (except now the music is
flawless and immediately retrievable!). Ever go to a radio station back
in the day and watch a DJ doing his thing? Or go to a dance club with
the DJ spinning vinyl? They always prop up the album cover for the few
people watching and they can mentally link the art with the song. Its
cool.

Music for me goes hand in hand with memories. The cover art is part of
what brings back the memories

Re: [slim] New York Times Article on Digital Music

2008-02-21 Thread Zten

blakeh;271655 Wrote:
I spent about 18 months ripping each of my 5,300 CDs into FLAC format
and I never really thought of it as much of a chore. I guess I saw it
as a fun way to re-visit my CD collection one last time before I went
all digital. Even if you made a goal of ripping 10 CDs per day (which
would take around 20-30 minutes), you could rip a 3,600+ CD collection
in a year. In the meantime you'd still have your CDs to pop in your CD
 player for listening purposes.

Granted, it took some time to tag them correctly and add cover art (I
had to scan about 1,000 covers in that weren't available online) but
what I'm left with is a searchable, lossless collection of all my music
with catalog numbers, country of origin, record label information and
 cover art.

The Squeezebox has made it so much easier to listen to music. And I'm
eagerly awaiting the new remote so that I can view cover art while the
 music is playing.

P.S. There is absolutely *NO WAY* I would ever send my discs to another
company to rip. That sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. I guess
I might consider it if my collection was available for replacement at
Best Buy, but I would venture a guess that most of us have discs that
are no longer in print and simply cannot be replaced if the ripping
company should lose or damage them.

I must say the ripping was my least favorite part. The second least
favorite part was adding album art and tweaking tags. Adding replay
gain was not so painful since it can be done flawlessly in large
batches

I still think Slim would be wise to include thier own, super simple to
use ripper/tagger/replay gain-er that is fully automated and does it
all in one step.

I talked my neighbor into buying a SB3 a year ago. The ripping and
tagging was a daunting task for him, so he hired his very reliable and
honest son to do it for $0.25 a disc. 2000 CDs. I helped him set up EAC
and at that point, it was monkey work. It cost him $500 and the kid
thought he died and went to heaven. It comes out to about $3 an hour.
I think most everyone on the board is worth more than 3 bucks and
hour... Maybe you don't have a reliable son looking for easy money, but
I bet you can find one if you ask your friends and neighbors.

 JJanis

It will happen, but not for many more years. The BW is available now to
make it a breeze(fiber to the home), its still just too expensive
becuase of the infrasture investment that needs to be made. That is why
DSL and Cable modems have been successfull-- they work on the already
existing infrastructure. I have COMCAST cable service with streaming
service they call ON DEMAND. It streams audio and video over the cable
to my box. Even HD content in 1080i with Dolby Digital 5.1. So,
actually, I think they could even do 1080p and uncompressed 5.1 audio
(I'm guessing it would take twice as much more BW?). They are just
waiting for more widespread adoption of 1080p before they begin to
offer it (and probably charge more for it!) I'd say its still several
years away, so that brings us back to my original point. Why wait?
Players were as low as $299 last Christmas. I got my Blu Ray player for
free with purchase of the TV last month. I bet now we'll see blu ray
players under $200 by summer and maybe even a $129 unit by Christmas...

But a large portion of your life will go by before then. The way this
stuff works is once it reaches a price point you are comfortable with,
JUMP IN -- NO REGRETS. Don't look back for a few years becuase it will
just be a painful experince. First you see your equivalent equipment
drop in price, then you see BETTER stuff at the same price you paid,
then you see better stuff at LOWER prices, and it accelerates down from
there

I got a Blue Ray player and a 52 LCD flat panel last month. 1080p with
uncompressed 5.1 audio is AWESOME. It felt like the day I got my first
CD player. BTW, the day I got my first CD player had larger immediate
impact than the day I got my Squeezebox. Don't get me wrong. I love my
SB, but it was a small step for Man. The CD player was a giant leap for
Mankind.

You guys can wait for 1080p and uncompressed 5.1 audio to stream to
your home. Me? I'll be enjoying it NOW while you keep waiting for the
future... :o)

[slim] Couple Quick Questions on the new Duet

2008-01-07 Thread Zten

Seems pretty nice, but I am wondering if it is an upgrade to a guy like
me. I use my SB2 with a Nokia N770. I have the SB2 plugged into my
stereo in the family room and I use the IR remote when sitting in the
family room. I can switch the music to outside spreakers and use the
N770 when I am outside to control the music. So is there any advantage
for a guy like me? The N770 has a much larger display and supports HTML
and I bought it for only $129...

Thinking about expanding. There is infrequent times (2 or 3 times a
year when I take my SB2 into the basement and plug it into my old
stereo (also, this is where I keep all my old CDs and CD player...!)
becuase I want the flexibilty there for a party. If I was to expand and
buy another SB so I didn't have to physically move this one box, would I
be best to just get a SB3 or would there be an advantage to getting a
duet, given I already have the N770? I could see going the route of
just getting the Duet Reciever to save some money, but it appears
Logitech has bundled the Recveiver with at least one Controller

All comments appreciated!

I found some more pictures of the SBC on the web and I was surprsed how
large it looks in the persons's hand. It seems pretty big. I also
noticed a comment that the SBC has an unused headset jack on it. Will
it soon be turned on so that you can use the SBC like a portable MP3

Re: [slim] Any word of SB4?

2008-01-04 Thread Zten

I think wireless-n support would be good, but for me, the reason I keep
coming back to the Slim website every few weeks, is becuase I keep
hoping for a version with a dramatically upgraded display technology.
The scrolling flourescent green/blue seems so '80s or '90s

What it needs is a 7 to 10 inch TFT color VGA (or even better
resoultion?) screen that will display the album art and metadata. Also
a video out port would be great so you could show the same image on a
monitor or a TV.

I have no idea how much SLIM has to pay for the vacuum flourscent
display, seeing as how hardly any other mordern product in the world
uses it (aside from the Transporter!), I bet it is not cheap. I know
the color TFTs have come down ALOT in cost. Perhaps this upgrade could
be made with little extra cost for SLIM, yet the added functionality of
making it a digitial picture frame as well supplies an excellent value
proposition for the market place.

Just think of the wow factor at your party when the tunes are streaming
over to your stereo and you have big, bright album art and text showing
on the TFT screen. Or then you hit another button to put the SB4 in
slideshow mode so your wife can show off all the photos from your last
vacation (all the while the music keeps streaming...)Or better yet,
show it all on the 52 LCD flat screeen TV next to the SB4.

This is what I think they should be doing next SB4

I do not start it on boot up. First the computer starts, then I right

answer's the question

But now it sure seems like I would rather just have it start up

else. This has been fine for years, but now I am starting to run out of

Re: [slim] Microwave ovens (revisited)

2007-09-04 Thread Zten

So I ended up selecting a channel that was outside of my microwave
oven's operating range and have been happy ever after:

My Microwave oven is running at 2450MHz. This is approximately WiFi
channel 8.5 . Turn out I was using channel 7 on my WLAN. It makes sense
that I get interference from the microwave becuase the WiFi channels are
very wide and actually overlap channels +/- 2 channels away!

So then what channel should I use? To answer that question I took my
laptop computer and used it as a receiver to measure my neighbors WiFi
Channels they are using. I am in ear shot of signals from my neighbors
on channels 1, 3, 6 (several folks on Ch 6), and 11.

So, I changed my WLAN to channel 4. Seems to be a channel that no one
near by uses and best of all, no more drop outs when my wife runs the
microwave oven!

Re: [slim] Nokia 770 $129 on woot.com now!

2007-07-07 Thread Zten

I got my n770 from buy.com today. It has SW version 2.2006.39-14.

Should I upgrade the SW in the n770? How do I upgrade the SW?

I am still seeing about a 10 second delay using the N770 with the 770
SS skin. It is much faster when I use the default skin. I've tried all
of Ben's suggestions except changing my Browser from IE (to some other
kind) and downloading the Canola SW. Do I need the canola SW on the
computer or on the N770?

[slim] Nokia 770 Skin Question - Latency?

2007-07-05 Thread Zten

I am expecting a N770 any day now, but until then I have been playing
with the N770 skin using an old laptop computer. I have noticed
somthing strange with latency. Using the default skin, the SB seems
to quickly react to commands from the laptop, skipping songs quite
quickly (0.5 or 1 second...). But when I set SS to the N770 Skin, it
really seems to slow down. Taking 5 to 10 seconds before it will
actually skip to the next song when comanded. Does this make sense? Is
this the way it will work when I get the N770? Thanks for any
responses.

Re: [slim] Library Scanning problems

michael,
I'm running Windows XP Home with media center. I have actually
re-installed a few different versions of slimserver. Whe n I go into
the windows ad or remove programs it says slimserver is 96MB in size!
That clearly seems wrong (its only like 20MB, right?) so I thought I
would just uninstall slim server to whipe the slate clean and start
over. But when I try to, I get an error message from Windows :
---
Error

The uninstall log file C:\Program Files\SlimServer\unins000.dat is in
a format not recognized by this version of the uninstaller. Cannot
uninstall.

How can I uninstall SS?

Re: [slim] Library Scanning problems

2007-07-02 Thread Zten

So Anoop at tech support hotline was able to help me. I just deleted the
old Slimserver(s) I had and reinstalled 6.5.3. Then I had the same
problem== Once Slimserver starts running, my CPU would whirl off into
space 100% consumed and my computer would get EXTREMELY slow. Stopping
slimserver, then all would be fine. So Anoop theorized my McAfee
Internet Security Suite was the problem. I had McAfee stuff all turned
OFF, but he said that really is not good enough. You have to uninstall
it all and see if that is the problem So I simply uninstalled just the
Firewall first(I still have VirusScan and Privacy Service) and now
ITS ALL GOOD. So it was the firewall. Apparantly the Firewall did not
like the newer version of SlimServer... I had no issues like this with
6.3.0.

Anyway. I am going again with latest SlimServer. Now I just need to
figure out how to have my firewall not puke all over slimserver.

assigned my music FOLDERS as album names. its quite bizarre. Anyone
ever seen this? Any recommedations on what to do?

I have had a CFL (not Canadian Football League) in my Family room longer

enrgy and now they even have the same, comforting hues of incandescents
and they turn on right away when you flick the switch. The mercury in
them is mice nuts compared to the benefits.

[slim] To upgrade or Not to upgrade, that is the question.

2007-06-14 Thread Zten

First let me start off by saying I love my SqueezeBox! I bought my SB2
in October 2005 and it has thoroughly rejuvinated my love of music. I
did a couple SW/Firmware upgrades and all seemed fine, but then when I
stepped from 6.2.2 to 6.3.0, it went haywire where it would never seem
to converge when doing a library rescan. It would just go for hours and
never finish. I spent many hours trying to debug it with great help from
the kind folks on this forum, but in the end, I just cut back to 6.2.2.

Am I missing anything good with the latest SW and Firmware? I looked
through the relese notes and could not find a big driver that should
make me want to upgrade. I do have an issue where every now and then
(once every 2 weeks or so...) the SB just stops. I have to power cycle
the SB2 and my computer/router. If that is fixed in a later code
release, it would be nice.

Do upgrades get tested in upgrading from all previous versions? I would
go from 6.2.2 to 6.5.2. Has that ever been tried successfully? Is there
anuything about an old SB2 that makes it incompatible with the latest
SW?

Should I just leave well enough alone?

Thanks for your expert advice.

Re: [slim] Not all is rosey in Squeeze Box land

2007-03-18 Thread Zten

From an old post of mine when I was seeing random dropouts. I root
caused much of my trouble to the microwave oven:

avoiding Microwave oven and adjacent WLAN Interference

So I looked into things tonight. My Microwave oven is running at
2450MHz. This is approximately WiFi channel 8.5 . Turn out I was using
channel 7 on my WLAN. It makes sense that I get interference from the
microwave. I doubt a the WiFi recevier has that great of rejection to
strong energy only 1.5 channels away, Also, I am no expert on Microwave
ovens, but I suspect the are not the most spectrally pure of noise
generators. Running at 2450MHz, they are still probably pumpin out some
junk at 7 or 8 MHz away.

[slim] Re: Tons of Problems with 6.5

2006-11-10 Thread Zten

Its clear you are frustrated. You do need to keep in mind that most of
the posters on this forum are unpaid, so don't get upset with them. But
you should be perhaps upset with Slim. I tried 6.5 and ran into a host
of problems mostly related to library scanning. A backed down to 6.3.0
and all is fine again. I was lucky after spending several hour of my
own time. I know lots (MOST!) people are seeing no issues with 6.5, but
the fact that there are so many people seeing issues with it, it says to
me there is something missing in Slim's pre-release testing. 6.5 brought
in support for the Transporter, so maybe that is the root cause for many
of the problems?? Maybe Slim should consider having two seperate load
lines (one for Squeeze box, one for Transporter), although I can
understand the desire to hold everthing in one version of code. I know
one thing for sure, I am not upgrading to future SW versions unless
there is some important new feature I want badly, and then it woill
only be after the version is out for a few months and I have scoured
this forum to see how many people have had problems with the new SW.

[slim] Re: What do Playlists mean to you?

2006-11-10 Thread Zten

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29368

Question: What do playlists mean to you?

- Never or very rarely use them
- Not a big problem: use static playlists for parties or similar,
  current features ok
- Use static playlists a lot, would like to see better features for
  managing them
- Want smart or dynamic playlists. iTunes integration and/or plugins
  usable (but could be better!).
- Smart or dynamic playlists are very important, current options not
  good enough, must be improved
- Critical: Playlist handling must be improved or I'm out of here

Ceejay,
I listen to my squeezebox three ways:
1) Search for an Album, play it
2) Search for a Song, Play it
3) Play my favorite songs playlist in random order and just let it
roll.

the third option is the one I do the MOST. my favorite songs playlist
is large with 1380 songs. It took a long time to construct. Then I had
the unfortunate issue happen where when upgrading SS software, my
playlist somehow got deleted and/or SS was no longer able to read it. I
reconstructed the playlist and the same thing happend to me again. That
was bad, so the third time I did it I did it a different way. Intead of
using the SS playlist, I changed the ID3 tag. All my Favorite Songs I
gave them the Genre of Chamber Music. Only songs I listen to when I
am in my Chambers. If somebody else doesn't like them, they can leave
the chamber! :o)

Anyway, this has worked well for me. Now when I want to random play my
favorite songs, I just search for chamber Music and hit play. Last
weekend I had a bad time upgrading to 6.5.0. I stepped back to 6.3.0 to
fix my woes, but I was worried it would somehow smoke my playlist. No
worries, though. Since my playlist is actually strored within each
music file's ID3 tag, there is no SS error that could accidentally
delete or corrupt my playlist. So I am a happy camper now!

I think your best chance of success is to follow Mitch's procedure, but
let me ask this: Why do you want to upgrade? If you don't have a good
reason to do it, then stay with 6.3.1. I upgraded this past Saturday
and ran into big issues with library scanning. Then, searching the
forums, I found several other folks commenting on scanning issues. I'd
just stay on 6.3.1 unless there is some specific fix or enhancement in
6.5.1 that you must have. Not JMO, I think it is the same opinion of at
least a few others in the forum as well.

Oh well, I bet Wunder is right, though. ;o)

I think it sounds great too, dude! I can't say how it compares to other
streaming networked players (as I am spoiled and only have ever heard
the SB on my system), but I can say for a FACT that it sounds better
streaming FLACs than my old CD player ever sounded.

[slim] Re: Squeezebox is great- for bitheads

2006-07-13 Thread Zten

maybe it just should. I feel compelled to comment as a pretty casual
observer. bulk of this is just electronic misunderstanding. If folks
were talking face to face or even just talking on the phone, this all
would have been a non-event. Maybe the simple smiley face would have
prevented the misunderstanding, maybe not. Interesting how no one from
Slim chimed in. They know they have a good thing going with all these
unpaid yet very passionate engineers developing SW and in some cases
even HW for them :o)

For the record, I love my squeezebox and despite its non-idiot proof
setup and usage, I talk it up to all my friends. I have paid the price
with my own time being used to help friends get their SB going. So, I
also am an unpaid consultant!

However, as I posted many months ago, I think the main reason Slim does
not market the product through the mainstream is becuase they realize it
is not idiot-proof enough yet. Their call center would be inundated and
they would have returned SBes coming at them by the truckload if they
got agressive on the price and marketed the SB through mainstream
channels. I bet they are working on pulling together all the great
stuff you guys have done and will one day soon get very rich on a more
idiot-proof SB, although I bet they are doing pretty well even now!
:o)

The brand is KLH. Model number C-180B. Check them out on Best Buy's

Makes me think of Billy Joel. Don't waste your money on a new set of
speakers, You get more mileage from a cheap pair of sneakers.

I am WY too much of a value guy compared to most of the Slim
customers. Don't get me wrong, I have a pretty good amp ($600), pretty
good set of indoor speakers ($1k), etc, but I really cannot see
spending $400+ bucks on speakers that will get rained on. I think for
$45 bucks, these speakers are great for outside. My buddy bought a $400
pair of Polks for outdoor, and they do sound better than mine, but he
already has the plan to only bring them out when he wants to listen to
music outside and that just doesn't do it for me.

numerous commands to refresh. I connect over the internet, not WIFI.
Thanks to EVDO speed, it is manageable.

Wow, your using the cell phone over Verizon's EVDO network just to
control your SB. Doesn't that cost alot of money???

[slim] Re: SB3 runs warm, even when it is idle?

2006-07-05 Thread Zten

The biggest reason it gets modestly warm is becuase of its small size. 5
W to 7.5 W is actually quite a bit of heat. Put that much heat in a
somethign the size of a cell phone and it would burn your skin, but if
it was in a big ol' metal box (like the Audio PA in your system) it
would run cool as a cucumber. Maybe that's why the audiophile guys want
it in a big box, less heat means less thermal noise (kTB). :o)

[slim] Re: Outdoor Speaker Recommendation

2006-07-05 Thread Zten

I never heard of this brand, but, I saw a great deal on them in the
Sunday Ads. I went to Best Buy and bought a pair. They are outdoor
speakers, sound pretty good (definiitely not great, but its pretty hard
for anything to sound great outside). I mounted them under the eaves.
Anyway, they were normally $129 for the pair, but they were on sale for
$60 and you get a $20 gift card with purchase. So for $45 after tax I
bought them. Best of all, I won't feel compelled to run outside and
grab them when a storm comes. Although I might be nice and bring them
in for the winter.

2006-07-05 Thread Zten

Well, Sprint is a lot cheaper than VZW. Unlimited data for my Q on VZW
costs $45. Anyway, using EVDO data to control the SB seems excessive
when you already have a FREE, HI SPEED wireless data setup in your home
assuming you use a wireless SB.

How does accuracy of SB network time compare to the accuracy of GPS

Anybody notice the Slim Devices press release on Kronos from very early

So even though Sean Adams likes to humor the Audiophile guys on the

interesting is homw many people own or rent their own

Now compare that to iPOD owners I bet the averga age is 20 years
younger, 30 to 40% FEMALE and only 10% onw or rent their own

[slim] Re: Synchronization of Soft Squeeze 2.3 with Slim Server 6.2.2

2006-04-30 Thread Zten

I have SoftSqueeze 2.3, SlimServer 6.2.2, and I just downloaded Java
Media Framework (I previously did not have this...) SB is still not
synched with Soft Squeeze. Is there something I need to do specifically
with JMF or do I just need to have it installed on my machine?

I have tried both FLAC and MP3, but soft squeeze still LEADS the
Squeeze box by more than a second. Any other ideas?

[slim] Synchronization of Soft Squeeze 2.3 with Slim Server 6.2.2

2006-04-29 Thread Zten

Glad to see the Tony Muffin fiasco was resolved. So all he had to do was
re-boot his router? So much heat on that one with such a simple fix.
What a shame..

Anyway, I upgraded to 6.2.2, and it was painless. Two things in 6.2.2
caught my eye. One was the release notes say there is an improvement
for people using Actiontech routers. THAT'S ME! Every now and then,
(NOT very often) slimserver would just stop on my system, so now I will
see if this now longer happens.

The second thing was a claim of improvement of synch with SoftSqueeze.
Trying it now and Softsqueeze is still LEADING my SqueezeBox by about a
second. Is there any hope for me?

P.S. No anger here. I just would love to be able to synch up
Softsqueeze with SqueezeBox

[slim] Re: 6.2.2. OK now! This is fun! NOT!

2006-04-28 Thread Zten

This type of thing can be EXTREMELY frustrating. You have this super
cool thing that is more addictive than heroin and now its busted, right
before your party. Yes, tony is pissing off all the UNPAID folks who are
trying to help him, and that is not a wise thing to do. I#8217;m glad
to see the Dean gave Tony a phone number to call. I think Tony should
call it and work through the issues with a LIVE support person.

I love my SB, and like all of you, I am fairly tech savy. When I got
the email from Sean a couple days ago about the SW upgrade, I was
pumped, because I have been wanting a solution to synch up Softsqueeze
with my SB. (I use FLAC almost excusively, so I am all too familiar
with the timing problems) Anyway, I figured I would look in on the old
message board before doing the upgrade, and boy am I glad I did. I
surely will not upgrade to 6.2.2 until the root cause of
tonymuffin#8217;s problems are documented.

Slim Devices needs to be very concerned about these things. It seems to
me the Squeezebox business case is centered on word-of-mouth
communication. I know I bought one based on the recommendation of a
co-worker. I also have influenced 3 other people to buy one. There is
no significant advertising for it and there are no (or at least very
few) major retail outlets for it. All the business is based on
word-of-mouth.

Tonymuffin clearly loves his SBes too. He#8217;s got 3 for
cryin#8217; out loud. If tonymuffin had NOT upgraded to 6.2.2, he
would be like the rest of us; showing it off to all his friends at his
party tonight. But since he DID upgrade to 6.2.2, his whole system came
down and now he#8217;s going to be telling all his friends how
he#8217;s spent 800 bucks on these pieces of junk. That#8217;s not
the type of word-of-mouth Slim Devices needs. IMHO.
