Re: [slim] Streaming radio doesn't play on Transporter
Hi, I just tried that link and it played on my Transporter (running LMS 8.1.2 on rPi). I did notice that everytime I stopped, then restarted the station, it would show about 3 seconds of nothing, then start over at 0. But when it started over, it played fine and showed 128kbps AAC stream. It also showed the artist and song title as metadata. *Home:* Pi4B-8GB/pCP7.x/4TB>LMS 8.1.x>Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio (all ethernet) *Cottage:* rPi4B-4GB/pCP7.x/4TB>LMS 8.1.x>Touch>Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (Radio WIFI) *Office:* Win10(64)>foobar2000 *The Wild: *rPi3B+/pCP7.x/4TB>LMS 8.1.x>hifiberry Dac+Pro (LMS & Squeezelite) *Controllers:* iPhone11 & iPadAir3 (iPeng), CONTROLLER, Material Skin, or SqueezePlay 7.8 on Win10(64) *Files:* -Ripping-: dBpoweramp > FLAC; -Post-rip-: mp3tag, PerfectTunes, TuneFusion; -Streaming:- Spotify garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112292 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Streaming radio doesn't play on Transporter
Re-examining this... (I just gave up last year.) Here is the radio stream I'm trying to play on the Transporter, but get no audio. It shows about 3 seconds of progress in the web UI, then the counter resets to 0:00. Maybe someone else could try it? http://kuvo-ice.streamguys.org/kuvo-aac-128 Web page: 'KUVO 89.3 Denver' (https://www.kuvo.org/ways-to-listen/) It plays on my SB Radio, apparently natively. On the Transporter I see this info in the web interface: File Format: AAC Bitrate: 128kbps CBR (Converted to 705kbps FLAC) Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz URL: http://kuvo-ice.streamguys.org/kuvo-aac-128 I'm using the stock convert.conf and types.conf files, no changes to the streaming formats (shown in a previous post). Both faad.exe and flac.exe are in place and are the versions installed by LMS. I'm running LMS 8.2 beta, built May 30. I have a Tivoli PAL and have been using a RCA to 3.5mm from a SB Receiver for many years with no problem. I don't use any Stereo/Mono setting and it sounds OK. The volume level of both SB player and Tivoli volume control might affect quality. I think the "best" level for each depend on which control you'll actually be varying - LMS player control or Tivol volume control bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114473 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Streaming to an old Tivoli Model One radio...
Hi. I've got an old Tivoli Model One radio that, due to the geography of where I live, gets very poor reception from AM and FM stations. So I'm repurposing the radio to play tunes and radio stations from my LMS library via my newly-purchased DAC32 streamer. The DAC32 streamer is connected to the radio's AUX IN socket via an RCA to 3.5mm cable. The audio quality is pretty good given what this mono-only radio is cable of. I have two questions: 1. Is there any reason why connecting the streamer to the radio is inadvisable (I assume not, otherwise why would an RCA to 3.5mm cable exist?) 2. Given that the radio can produce only mono output, do you have any suggestions as to how I might improve the sound (e.g., LMS settings of some sort)? Thanks for any help and advice! radish112's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11591 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114473 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

He might be wrong and the specs are right. In 16 bits mode, squeezelite-esp32 supports 192/24 but samples are truncated to 16. Ive never tested extensively but I think flac and pcm work although the cpu really suffers. The piCorePlayers have been set to hw: for ages, so I think KQED must have changed something about their stream that now requires plughw. Thanks for your help. [slim] Streaming problem
For the past couple of days, I have had a problem streaming KQED from San Francisco: > http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s34804&formats=aac,ogg,mp3&partnerId=16&serial=e0d4fcd27e2805469abd8b7d50071ddb I have 3 picorePlayers, all running piCorePlayer v7.0.0b6, one uses a Pi A+ with analog output, and the other 2 use Pi Zeros with Pimoroni phatDACs (simple TI5102 DAC in squeezelite settings). Apart from the audio device setting, all 3 are set up the same. The stream plays on the A+ system, but not with the Pi Zeros. The only setting I can find that makes a difference is Player>Audio>Audio Startup Time. By default, this is set to 0, and there is no sound, but the playing time increments. If I set it to 0.25, there is a garbled sound output like chipmunks. It *feels* like this problem might be related to the latest LMS update I installed on the weekend, at least I only noticed this problem after the update. [slim] Streaming radio doesn't play on Transporter
My main stereo system with a Transporter was down for a while as my preamp was being repaired. Today I noticed that streaming radio doesn't play on the Transporter. The only other Squeezebox set up in my house right now is a Radio, and streaming radio plays fine on it. I've tried both direct streaming and proxied streaming settings for the Transporter and neither one plays. On the server, the progress bar moves, I get feedback like covers and track info. On the Transporter I see track info, but the VU meters don't show anything playing. The Pi doesn't have audio output directly-only a connection to the LMS via the integrated audio sink. So the errors being thrown are because my admin machine isn't set up for this. If this goes through without moderation, I'll assume the last post was somehow lost... Since most of the automation is running on an RPi3+, I'm trying to minimize the overhead. Since I anticipate most of the Pico TTS outputs to be small files, I can script lame to convert it to MP3 and then stream it. Ideally, if it's possible to get LMS to recognize the Pico TTS-generated wav files, it would save some overhead and act as a template to do allow other possible wav files to be streamed. Re: [slim] Streaming WAV files to LMS over http question
Since the stream already exists - it is a case of describing the current format and then advice can be given. If you're not sure how to describe then play it with mplayer with "-v" verbose and copy the output to a post. It will give all the header and mime and other stream format info necessary to play the stream. Years ago - KEXP used to have a uncompressed stream and there various hacks to play it - all of which are now out of date. For example - one thread of many https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?35028-Connect-to-KEXP-Uncompressed bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110509 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Not necessarily a plugin as something might already cover it but the stream has to be set up so it is unambiguously a WAV stream. LMS also has to know is it is a "Live" stream (i.e. infinite) or a file (e.g. WAV podcast like) with a defined length (WAV header has a max size of 2Gb so "Live" stream has to break WAV headers). The transport protocol also needs to be defined (e.g. MPEg2 over HTTP, MPEG4 over HTTP, plain http). Side issues of metadata also come into view. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110509 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

LMS doesn't recognise the stream and IIRC streamign WAV is not part of standard distribution as there is no "de-facto" standard for streaming WAV so for your stream a new audio type and associated handler may be required. First, LMS needs info to determine the audio format. This info is usually in the Mime of the stream in the HTTP Content-Type header. [slim] Streaming WAV files to LMS over http question
Hi All, I'm not sure this question is in the right place, but as best as I can tell, this is a general question. I recently set up a LMS server, and I love it. I use OpenHAB for home automation, and have run into a curious situation that I'm hoping someone here can help with. OpenHAB as a binding for supporting squeezelite players. It works well for controlling the system and playing anything that's on LMS. However, it also has the option to set a squeezlite player as an audio sink. This is very useful in my situation as I can have LMS stream audio over my entire home and OpenHAB can interrupt the audio and broadcast a message as needed (ie, "someone is at the door") and then resume the stream. Great system. However, when the broadcast is in WAV format, LMS just pauses the stream with no audio output. No problem with MP3, FLAC, or other formats. Since I'd like to have the automation system utilize text-to-speech, and that forces WAV files to be produced, it renders the system unusable. If these files are already in LMS as WAV files, there's no problem. It has something to do with sending the WAV files over http for transcoding. I have had a Home Assistant automation system user confirms this happens with Home Assistant as well, so it's not just an OpenHAB problem. In a perfect world, I'd have a text-to-speech system (in this case, Pico TTS) read a file and output the stream in WAV to the appropriate squeezelite player. However, I'm not sure what's happening in the stream that's causing this. I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction to find a reasonable solution to this situation. Any help is appreciated. IIRC Pandora requires a hardware players as that was part of the deal with Slimdevices/Logitech - I think this is checked using mac address. Gary - Slightly off topic but what do you think of the Audioengine A2s ? I am considering a pair for our Guest Room driven by an O2 Joggler (USB) or perhaps a Touch (RCA) but they do seem expensive compared to other options e.g. Alesis M1 Active 330 USB at about half the cost which have the bonus that I already know they work over USB with a Joggler. On topic. I can't test Chromecast (Phillipe's plugin) with Pandora being in UK but I can't see why it wouldn't work as it is an instance of squeezelite inside LMS but as I say I can't test. I'd put a Chromecast into our Guest Room but I currently have plenty of other spare kit. Note. I use my Chromecast to a small headphone amp at my bedside. Re: [slim] Streaming source for small powered speakers - Touch vs SB Radio
I see, I get what you're saying. While I've spent my adult life in Silicon Valley (and picked up my first SB3 and a few other purchases at the Slim Devices office in Mountain View, and also discovered a former colleague working there on one visit), I'm not an engineer or any other kind of technical person. The thought of cobbling together a Linux-running device from even pre-configured components holds no interest for me. None. I wouldn't do it for myself, much less for someone else's use. As I said, I'll leave it up to my buddy to decide the approach he wants from the conventional choices. I have an old SB3 that I retired from active use some years ago due to erratic behavior. Maybe it's ready for prime-time again? I'll check it out and see if it wants to see daylight again. Thanks for the time to respond. His money, his consequence. Thanks OK. I understand your request now. If it was only sorta complicated, I'd be happy to test output from RADIO headphone jack vs output of TOUCH, both feeding same amp/speakers. Unfortunately, it would be quite a chore. My Touch is connected to my DAC/Preamp/Amp via a S/PDIF coaxial cable. So it is not a matter of simply pluging that cable into the RADIO. I'd need a different cable for the RADIO (and the TOUCH RCA outs instead of S/PDIF), a cable I don't currently own by the way (dual RCA on one end and headphone miniplug on the other). And to insert this different cable I'd have to have a friend come over to help me move a giant piece of furniture away from the wall that holds all my AV equipment inside (with a 65" TV on top of it). Then I'd need to use that different cable to connect radio vs Touch to A/B them. And accessing DACs, preamps, etc. inside this AV cabinet is not that easy. Anyhow, we're talking 3 to 4 hours on a Saturday to get things moved out, tested, moved back in, etc. You get the idea. But the next best thing is I did a search of this forum going back to when the Radios were first released. There were a few threads that addressed using the headphone out of the radio to feed a preamp or powered speakers instead of the TOUCH. The general consensus seemed to be that, although not perfect because the radio output not line-level and a bit noiser, it generally worked just fine for modest listening (although not as good as a TOUCH, which is made for this purpose). The major complaint is that the volume was way lower out of the radio headphone jack as compared with TOUCH line-level outputs (RCA analog outputs). If not for the need for free Pandora, the answer (for me if recommending to a friend) would be very simple. I'd do one of two things. 1. connect a chromecast audio connector to a set of powered speakers and control with smart phone (all playing my own music or internet radio streams from LMS with the appropriate plugin from phillipe to make LMS work with chromecast). 2. Purchase a Rasberry Pi 3B+ with HifiBerry DAC+ hat, install PiCorePlayer (which will then be using squeezelite as the LMS player), and connect the analog outputs of the Rasberry Pi to the powered speakers. This is cheap, but not as cheap as the chromecast audio. But it is current technology. *Home:* VBA 4TB (2.4)>LMS 7.9.1>Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio (ethernet) *Cottage:* VBA 3TB (2.4)>LMS 7.9.1>Touch> Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (Radio WIFI) *Office:* Win8(64) > LMS 7.9.1>Squeezelite *The Wild (no internet): *PiCorePlayer 4.0 on rPi 3B+, hifiberry Dac+Pro, 4TB USB (LMS & Squeezelite) *Controllers:* iPhone6 & iPadAir2 (iPeng & Squeezepad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.8 on Win10(64) laptop *Files:* ripping: dbpa > FLAC; post-rip: mp3tag, PerfectTunes; Streaming: Spotify garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109667 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

You must not listen to many live albums (or things like the Beatles Abby Road (side 2) or Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon). For me, the most annoying is a really nice live album with a cool transition from one song to the next (think Grateful Dead) and then you get the break with a second or two of silence. It is only a second, but is very annoying and definitely kills the buzz *Home:* VBA 4TB (2.4)>LMS 7.9.1>Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio (ethernet) *Cottage:* VBA 3TB (2.4)>LMS 7.9.1>Touch> Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (Radio WIFI) *Office:* Win8(64) > LMS 7.9.1>Squeezelite *The Wild (no internet): *PiCorePlayer 4.0 on rPi 3B+, hifiberry Dac+Pro, 4TB USB (LMS & Squeezelite) *Controllers:* iPhone6 & iPadAir2 (iPeng & Squeezepad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.8 on Win10(64) laptop *Files:* ripping: dbpa > FLAC; post-rip: mp3tag, PerfectTunes; Streaming: Spotify garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109667 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

If there are no other in-the-know responses, I have another friend who has an audio Chromecast, so I can take a laptop over to his house and see what happens with LMS before having my other friend buy the hardware. Yeah, it's cheap, but it'll let me know if the choice involves some use-compromise he should consider and he can decide what he wants. Re: [slim] Streaming source for small powered speakers - Touch vs SB Radio
Id say better than a Boom if your Active Speakers are of sufficient quality. Certainly something like Audioengine A2 would be better. Pandora. I use local FLACs, Spotify & BBC iPlayer. All are fine via a Chromecast (now I know how to set it up for gapless) I cant see why Pandora would or could be any different. [slim] Streaming source for small powered speakers - Touch vs SB Radio
I'm helping a friend set up a small SB location for his bedroom. For alarm, music at a soft setting, etc., Me, I already have an in-place and working multi-room SB home and all's well. Here's the question - a used SB Radio can be found for under $75. A used Touch is $150 or more. I understand the headphone jack on the Radio could function just fine as audio-out to small powered speakers. Or, the normal analog RCA outputs from a Touch of course work too. This is for a bedroom, not for a major listening location and not for profound enjoyment of high resolution music. Keeping in mind the intended usage, is there a substantial difference in sound quality to justify the extra cost of buying a Touch? Assume that the screen display doesn't matter and that input and control will be accomplished using a smartphone app. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you can share. Ah, ok, (and apols for the double post there). I probably need to do some more testing then, again when no one is in the house and turn off pretty much everything excep the media server PC and have another go. I read that footnote sentence as meaning the streaming server being Deezer, not the local logitech media server. But your interpretation makes more sense; why would it stream the same song 5 times? You're mixing bits and Bytes: 2880Mb = (2880/8)MB = 360MB. Bitrate is defined in bits per second, while bandwidth usage usually is counted in bytes, not bits. My calculation was a bit misleading, as my guessed 100MB would have been for a single stream. 360MB/5P = 72MB/Player. wellsi wrote: > I'm using Logitech Media Servier on a windows PC which has my > 'mysqueezebox.com' account info entered. IMHO syncing 5 players using LMS should only pull the stream once from the cloud to LMS, and 5x from LMS to the players. See the footnote about "partial" syncing on mysb.com: "You can sync these, but the audio will most likely not be in perfect sync. The reason for this is because each player maintains its own connection to the streaming server, and may start at slightly different points in the stream." mysb.com can't sync perfectly well, because the players stream directly from the source. With LMS this limitation goes away as LMS is proxying the stream. Can you track down from what source that data came? Trust me when I say nothing is being proxied through mysb.com - the cost would kill us. Are you using LMS or connect to mysb.com directly? The single stream when synced would only work when using LMS (for aforementioned reasons). Re: [slim] Streaming Deezer on the Duet - is data from Deezer.com or Squeezebox.com?
If I stream Deezer on my Duets around the house, am I streaming from Deezer.com (which is included in their deal meaning it's not using up my data allowance), or am I streaming from Squeezebox.com (which isn't, and therefore will eat up my allowance). The audio date comes from the music source, not mysb.com. I don't know how they handle this, as it's not coming from some deezer.com domain, but a CDN they're using. But I guess they've figured that out. Also, (just checking), I assume if I'm streaming to 4 players synchronised, I'm only downloaing data once to mediaserver which is then in turn streamed wthin my home network to the 4 duet players (so Im not using 4x the data when playign on 4 players... Re: [slim] streaming to Squeezebox
This has been discussed in the BBC iPlayer plugin threads. It is DNS related. Due to the way HLS works it sends many chunks of data in sequence. Because HLS support is a hack in Triode's iPlayer each chunk of data requires a new DNS lookup. If you look through (or search) the threads you should find further info and suggested fixes - one of which is to substitute your routers IP address in the LMS servers DNS settings with 8.8.8.8 - Google's public DNS server farm often quicker than your router and its relay to your ISPs DNS server. It works with iPlayer on PC/Mac because HLS is implemented differently and presumably the player software caches theDNS address. *Vortexbox LMS 7.8 music on QNAP TS419p via NFS* iThingys/iPeng/Tablets *Living Room* - SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s - Zone 2 -> Sony TA FE 320 -> Sennheiser RS 130 & B&W P7 *Office* - RPi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes *Dining Room* -> SB Boom *Kitchen* -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones *Bedroom (TV)* - Amazon Fire TV (SB Player) -> Topping TP20 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104630 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, never had any errors with local streaming. And I'm using Devolo Homeplug, not wireless. Network Diagnostics does show the ISP traffic light turn from green to red sometimes, and then back to green in a short or long time (never any need to reboot router/modem). ShairTunes seems to be working for playing local music on my iPad to my Squeezebox. I had a few problems, but I think they were my own misunderstanding. Doesn't seem to work with the BBC iPlayer Radio app on the iPad, though, as I don't think that allows Airplay and so does not allow ShairTunes. Just for the record, using iPlayer Radio on iPad got me a half-hour program with no dropouts. Could be luck, but I suspect that this holds on to the stream better than the iPlayer (and Extra) plugins for LMS. danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104630 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
