Applying simple green seems to do some clean up, but residue continues to

The outside of the chassis is coated with a clear

compromised. I always clean the rust up best I can and coat the chassis with
polyurethane. I am more concerned with preventing further damage to the chassis

I have some replacement meters available for the Drake W-4, WV-4, MN-4,
and MN-2000. The housings of these meters are physically identical to
the original Drake meters and mount with the same hardware in the same
mounting holes. The plastic cover is identical in shape to the Drake,
but the lower portion is clear, not painted black. The meter face itself
is a non-Drake face, the needle is black, not red, and is fatter
 (flattened out) at the end.

Electrically, these meters differ from the originals and require a shunt
(I use 1% tolerance components) to make them read correctly when
dropping them in to the Drake circuitry without having to recalibrate
 anything.

I am offering these meters in two ways:

DM-Rep - Tested replacement meter with shunt, non-Drake meter face,
and clear meter cover. Purchaser installs his own Drake meter
face and cover. Due to the possibility of damage to the needle
or movement by the purchaser when installing the meter face,
there is NO GUARANTEE and NO REFUND on this configuration and
only money orders will be accepted as payment. No checks.

$27.50 + $6.00 = $33.50 Priority Mail (not insured)
$27.50 + $7.65 = $35.15 Priority Mail (insured)
$27.50 + $8.95 = $36.45 UPS Ground (insured)

DM-EX - Tested replacement meter with shunt. Purchaser sends his/her
old meter to me and I will install the Drake meter face and
Drake cover on the replacement meter. I will send back both
the fully configured replacement meter and the unused clear
cover. Payment for this configuration can be via money order
  or PayPal. No checks.

$32.50 + $6.00 = $38.50 Priority Mail (not insured)
$32.50 + $7.65 = $40.15 Priority Mail (insured)
$32.50 + $8.95 = $41.45 UPS Ground (insured)

The UPS Ground shipping costs shown above are for lower 48 US state
addresses only. UPS to AK and HI, and all overseas shipping costs of any
type would have to be determined on a case by case basis.

Please contact me directly at [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you wish to order
 or have any questions.

 Thanks.

Re: [drakelist] T-4XB problem?

2007-11-14 Thread Bill Ellis
Garey,

Thanks for the info. I'll try another 6EV7 as a first attempt at a cure. One
other thing I failed to mention earlier, it may sound trivial, but, I've
noticed that the connecting cables RCA plugs over the years have oxidized or
become tarnished. Should this be a concern for proper operation not only for
this problem, but for general operation?

Garey Barrell [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Bias voltage is relied on to open the relay by cutting off the 6EV7
relay tube and if that voltage is low because of leaky electrolytics or
ripple in the Bias supply in the AC-3/4., the tube doesn't cut off as
quickly. Since you have eliminated the supply, another possibility is
that the 6EV7 is slightly gassy, which again causes tube to want to
continue conducting after it is told to cut off, especially after long
transmissions! Yet another possibility is that the final tubes are
dropping in emission, which requires you to set the bias voltage more
positive to set the idle current to the proper value, again resulting in
reduced negative voltage to cut off the 6EV7. Lastly, there are several
very high value carbon composition resistors in the biasing for the VOX.
ANTI-VOX and Relay circuits that can increase in value with age,
resulting in insufficient cut off bias for the 6EV7.

A rule de thumb is that the bias voltage at the Final grids is typically
-60 to -65VDC for nominal idle current.

Let us know what you find!

Greg,

Considering how old your T-4XB might be and some of
your problems are ones I had, your filter capacitors in the AC-4 powere
suipply may have dried up and need replacing. This affects the bias and there
could be ylour problem. There are others on this list who can give you more
detailed direction. I wouldn't trying to do any more with the rig until you
ascertain this is the problem and get it repaired. This will save your

Hey all, I am new to the group, and would
like to start off by picking the collective brain :-)) I am having trouble
with my T-4XB. I was working CW with it the other day when all of a sudden, it
shot a fuse. I changed out the fuse and started it back up. The new fuse
didn't blow, but when the set warms up, and the tubes start to conduct, the
TX/RX relay kicks in and the plate meter starts to show a lot of plate
current, around .25 to .3 on the meter. The transmitter won't tune, won't key,
won't do anything except light up. I did a visual check underneath, and
nothing is obviously burned. or out of place. I thought it may be the 6EV7
tube associated with the relay, but I have no way of testing the one in the
set, or any of the others I got with it. Anyway, I thought this may be a
common problem associated with this particular set and decided to put the
problem in front of the all knowing ones of the famous Drake list! Anybody got
  any ideas? 73's Greg Gifford / KG4MMY

the braid and one with the center lead. They are then soldered to two
lugs(supplied) and then srewed to the bottom of the vertical. It seems the
only way I can weather protect this connection is with the Acrylic Plastic
spray someone suggested. Any other thoughts?

Thanks for any help,

Is anyone out there doing PSK31 with an R-4B and T-4XB. If so , how are you
connecting your components and are you using any kind of isolation
transformer system on each end. I've received with the R-4B, but have not
tried to to transmit with the T-4XB.

Thanks,

[drakelist] T-4XB and tuner

Hi all,

What would be the recommended tune up procedure for a T-4XB and a MFJ-900
tuner? Not sure if I'm doing this correctly, so I wonder how others do it.

Thanks and 73's
