[Dx4win] Version 6.01 and Windows XP
I have a possible workaround that works here Interestingly, the Alt-S works if the focus is on the Main Window... Where the file menu is... If You avoid Alt-S and use the File - Save menu... It seems to save reliably... It might be useful if those who have duplicated the problem could verify if this is the case with their computers also... If this is the case... I would recommend that anyone using XP, Win2000 (not ME) and possibly NT avoid the Alt-B and Alt-S shortcuts until the problem is resolved... Since I noticed that under some conditions they work, and sometimes they fail... Remember... If it fails with Alt-S you lose any changes to the file since the last backup... Best be safe... -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of William Liporace - NA2NA Sent: January 31, 2003 6:00 PM To: DX4WIN POSTINGS Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Version 6.01 and Windows XP I will second this... Few of observations. I like the Alt+S save feature in Version 5.03, and I believe that it should be available in version 6.01, but when I enter a contact in 6.01, and then use the Alt+S keystrokes, DX4WIN closes. The whole program closes, not just my log file. I loaded version 6.01 onto a computer running Windows ME, and I can use the Alt+S feature just fine. Anyone else running 6.01 on XP and having the same problem? Also, I have set the map options to Show Spot Country, but I'm not seeing the spot countries prefix or the country being highlighted on the map as spots roll by on the cluster. Again, just me, or is there a problem? Lastly, and I noticed this on both ME and XP, when I merged my .cty files, there were quite a few contacts that had to be cleaned up to get my country counts correct to what I had in version 5.03. FO prefixes, 3X0C/LU, VK9's, some of my K5K contacts, some of my K1B contacts, some FR stuff, VP6DI contacts, etc., had to be cleaned up. [Dx4win] Direct QSL Printing
Hi all Has anyone been able to get the feature which allows you to print = directly onto the card and not using labels working?=20 Version 502 printed perfectly, version 503 switched from landscape = Portrait to after the first QSL. This version 601 switches from portrait = to landscape after the first card. Version 407 to 502 didn't switch at = all. I can solve the problem by creating a fictitious Log entry - AA1AA = and when I print 10 - 20 or 30 upwards etc, it will print the first QSL = AA1AA off the card and then the program will switch the mode from = portrait to landscape for all the subsequent QSLs. When you are in the Callsign field and push F3 the program will try to find a MANAGER for that call. 2. The Callsign / Mgr lookup window pops up and you get the data if available from the CDROM - (GO LIST ?) or not found. 3.When you like to check also on INTERNET NOW push the ENTER button, and your browser will start and gives you the details if they are available. 4.@ this moment the second URL will be checked 5. When you are in the QSL Mgr field and hit F3 the Callsign / Mgr lookup window pops and will try to find the address for this MANAGER. You get this data from the CDROM - (GO LIST ?) or not found. In the Setup Parameter, Ext Data section you can enter 2 URL strings. The first URL string is for the callsign lookup and the second URL id for the QSL manager lookup. When you are in the QSO window and hit F3 you bring up the Callsign/Manager Lookup window. This window has 4 fields, the text area, the callsign, the grid, and the QSL manager. I would expect that hitting enter when the cursor was in the callsign field would bring up a browser and execute the first URL string and likewise hitting enter when the cursor was in the QSL manager field would bring up a browser and execute the second URL string. However it does NOT work this way. Hitting Enter with the cursor in the text field executes the second URL string. Hitting Enter with the cursor in the callsign field executes the second URL string. Hitting Enter with the cursor in the grid field executes the second URL string. Hitting Enter with the cursor in the QSL manager field does nothing. The first URL string never is able to be executed. I have found this to be true on both Windows ME and 2000 Profesdsional machines. On previous versions of DX4Win when you were in the SSB mode the signal report fields advanced automatically to the next fielf after entering 2 characters. On ver 6.01 the field advances after entering 3 digits. Upon trying to enter the QSO you get an error message. I hadn't noticed this before as a beta tester (I guess all 59 reports) but today I was entering a bunch of mobile contacts. This is really not a problem but just a difference which may be accidental and indicitive of some other undiscovered problem. 73, Larry, W0QE ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win

Greetings, For the time being I reversed the fields as I prefer a direct address if possible. Put http://www.qrz.com/detail/ in the QSL Manager field in the External Data window and put http://www.ik3qar.it/manager/man_result.asp?call= in the Callsign field of the External Data window. Check Enabled, save and exit. Now you can press F3 and the Callsign Lookup window will appear. Press Enter and your browser will open and attempt to get a direct address from QRZ. If you want the QSL Manager you'll have to type the callsign in the QSL Manager field of the LooKup window and press Enter. A browser will open and attempt to find the QSL Manager. [Dx4win] Version 6.01 intermittent crashes on Alt-S Save
Since installing DX4win 6.01, the program has quit running three times when doing an Alt-S save. Immediately on pressing Alt-S, the program terminated instantly, with no warning. The first two times it happened, I had just modified the Prefix field of a QSO already in my log, which was incorrect. After changing the Prefix, I did an F10 save of the QSO, and then my usual keystroke Alt-S to save the log. When I restarted DX4WIN, the change to the prefix had not been saved. I redid the change of the QSO prefix, and then tried the menu File/Save command, and it saved it with no problem. The third time happened shortly after I had deleted several packet spots from the DX spots window. I made no changes to the log, but pressed the Alt-S to save, since I saw the black modified prompt at the top of the main Window. Again the program crashed without warning. This is an intermittent problem -- sometimes I can do an Alt-S save with no problem. I'm running DX4WIN on a Dell 2.4 GHz machine with 512 MB of RAM, and had never experienced such a crash under version 5.03. I'm trying to determine if this is an issue with version 6.01 or if there is something about my setup, or other programs running that is creating the problem. Has anyone else experienced this with version 6.01? Thanks for your help. 73, Cliff K0CA

If not, what do I need to do to be sure that they are? Otherwise I can foresee my DXCC count being off. Does anyone have a good, up to date, country list to use? [Dx4win] BUG OR NOT
Hello all Firstb i want to tell i am very happy with the new update. Its now also a complete program for the vhf dxer, with the new rst possibilities. 601 is a mayer update for all vhf dxers. Thanks to Paul and his crew! I thimk this will open the european vhf market for the program! One question. In the note qos from version 407 I wrote 13cm when I made a qso on that band because 407 had no 13cm band capebility. I have uploaded my old log to 601 and I saw I had a qso on 13cm. It seed that a note 13cm in the notes for this qso's screen is seen as a qso on 13cm. Is this a bug or is this done on purpuse so that if you had a not with 13cm in it the program 601 sees it as a qso on band 13cm? Its not a mayer problem, but only a question. best regards Timon pa9kt www.qsl.net/pa9kt

[Dx4win] More on Isolating Cause of Alt-S crashes
I've done some troubleshooting to try to help Paul isolate a pattern of crashes when using Alt-S save, since he indicated that after modifying some code, the issue seemed to be resolved in the beta testing. I have discovered that DX4WIN consistently crashes if I attempt to do an Alt-S save BEFORE doing a menu save using File/Save. If I first save through the menu, then Alt-S will not crash DX4WIN on repeated subsequent saves. In response to Guy ON4AOI's post about it only crashing under Windows 2000 and Windows XP Home Edition, I am running Windows XP Pro (not Home Edition) with all updates on a Dell 2.40 GHz machine with 512 MB RAM, using NTFS file system. I definitely have the under WinXP Pro. I have tried disabling antivirus, backup programs, messenging, and other programs and processes running in the background, and that has not resolved the crashing. I have also tried closing DX4WIN windows, including World Map, packet spots, sunrise/sunset, logbook, and country, zone, and state statistics. Still the program consistently crashes when I do an Alt-S before doing a menu Save using the drop-down menu. If I do one menu Save, then repeated Alt-S saves work as designed. I hope this helps Paul isolate the cause, and in the meantime, maybe others who have observed this issue can see if first doing the menu Save will avoid Alt-S crashes on their machines as well. 73, Cliff K0CA

MY W2Kpro = NTFS But My Windows XP Pro (up to date via windows update) is STILL FAT32 because I didn't convert the drive yet and I don't have the problem Setup is only PIII 850 Mhz 1024 Gb Ram but no IDE drives only SCSI + Ultra160 HDD's Just a suggestion to people who would share there info pse say also WHAT OS you are using and if you have FAT16 - FAT32 or NTFS file system. 73 Guy ON4AOI BAND DECODER and related stuff at http://www.on4aoi.be/banddecoder.htm DX4WIN soft and related stuff at http://www.on4aoi.be/dx4win.htm DX4WIN, WRITELOG, WF1B RITTY CW RTTY interfaces at http://www.on4aoi.be/keyer.htm ARSWIN link and related stuff at http://www.on4aoi.be/web7.htm DXTELNET soft and related stuff at http://www.on4aoi.be/dxt.htm MY SALESPAGE with radioamateur computer parts http://www.on4aoi.be/sale.htm - Original Message - From: Cliff Ahrens - K0CA [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: DX4WIN Reflector Dx4win@mailman.qth.net Cc: KK4HD [EMAIL PROTECTED]; NR4M [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, January 31, 2003 10:15 PM Subject: [Dx4win] More on Isolating Cause of Alt-S crashes I've done some troubleshooting to try to help Paul isolate a pattern of crashes when using Alt-S save, since he indicated that after modifying some code, the issue seemed to be resolved in the beta testing. [Dx4win] Version 6.01 and Windows XP
I will second this... I confirmed it on a XP Professional Will NA2NA - Original Message - From: Don Currier [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Sent: Thursday, January 30, 2003 9:04 PM Subject: [Dx4win] Version 6.01 and Windows XP Hello All, Installed 6.01 on a computer with XP operating system. Might not be a bad idea to check up on contacts with multi country prefixes. 73 All Don ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win
[Dx4win] Printing Bug Still There ?
Paul, Thanks for the info and the patches. Will let thingss settle out a bit for Steve and will then be ordering my upgrade. Thanks for the FB product!! Mike / W8DN - Original Message - From: Paul van der Eijk [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Mike Rhodes [EMAIL PROTECTED]; dx4win@mailman.qth.net Sent: Friday, January 31, 2003 10:07 AM Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Printing Bug Still There ? Mike, I'm collecting the problems I see mentioned and make changes to my code. As soon as the dust settles, I will release an update. To get over the bad first label, you can include a 'method label' in your print, so all following QSLs will be printed correctly. I guess this is also the reason the beta testers and I did not spot this problem. A QSL label printed in the wrong orientation stands out; the 'method label' does not. Paul At 06:19 AM 1/31/03 -0500, Mike Rhodes wrote: So it sounds like the printing bug still exists in version 6 only in a slightly modified form ?? Sure hope not because that would be the primary reason for my upgrading. If it is still there I sure hope a maintenance release is following close on the heels of the upgrade.- Thanks. [Dx4win] Internet Connections
I just want to remind those who use telnet to their favorite node that you can modify your DX4WIN.TCP file. I like to place my favorite node (mine) at the top of the list so that I do not have to scroll through the list every time I want to connect. Just use your favorite text editor! BTW, my node does not need the port 7300 on it. It will accept both ports 7300 and the standard 23. I hope this saves others time. Great job to the Paul, Steve and all of the Beta Testers!! 73 Will NA2NA telnet na2na.homedns.org http://na2na.homedns.org or http://na2na.homedns.org/cgi-bin/spider.cgi with a Java based WEB front end
