Re: [Dx4win] Updating/overriding country prefixes in DX4Win.
Yes, that’s the “exception” to the country list that I was describing. It is callsign, date, and country specific. If the exception is lost, so is the unique mapping for that QSO. 73, Duane Duane Calvin, AC5AA Austin, Texas <mailto:ac...@ac5aa.com> ac...@ac5aa.com From: Ed Stratton [mailto:w...@ymail.com] Sent: Monday, October 17, 2016 3:41 PM To: Duane Calvin <ac...@ac5aa.com>; dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Updating/overriding country prefixes in DX4Win. Re: [Dx4win] FT4JA not showing "W" in Country window?
Yes, FT/J, but if you're keeping your country file up to date, it should fill that in automatically for you. If you're ever in question, just tab to the prefix slot and press "F1" and you'll get the list of countries. Enter "Juan. . . " and by the time you're that far, it is displaying the correct prefix. Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN, LoTW, and the DXCC Award
That is the reason I always used "ac5aa20160229.adi" (for example) as the upload file and "lotwreport20160229.adi" as the confirmation report file downloaded from LoTW. As Jim, AD1C, pointed out recently, as long as your cursor is in the lower part of the packet window, just hit "Enter" three times and you will come up to the "enter callsign" prompt from the telnet server. If you program your callsign into one of the F-key's, then all you need to connect is three "Enter's", and one F-key. After a lot of time I found that it was a problem in my adsl router/modem as when I changed this, I can connect to the clusters directly without a problem. I don' t know if this is your problem but just in case. By the way it would be very good for all of us to use the ve7cc program. My problem with ve7cc, is that many times I get bored to run another program and make the connection routine also. A nice solution would be if a future version of dx4win has an option to run ve7cc and connect to it automatically. Maybe there is an external program do this. Any info? 73 Kostas SV1DPI On 14/11/2015 11:20 μμ, Duane Calvin wrote: > Hi all - I have a peculiar problem that has cropped up. [Dx4win] Cluster connects but no updates after
Hi all - I have a peculiar problem that has cropped up. I can't tell if it's due to an MS update, or from my installing the latest Norton Security software. All has been working fine for some time, but as of the last couple of weeks (roughly since I did the Norton install) I can connect to a cluster, do a SH/DX to list the last series of spots, but then nothing after that and I lose connection. Now, I've got my spots limited to 5-land, and there are not a lot of people actively spotting in 5-land, but somehow the connection gets lost. I don't see any disconnect messages unless I try to send a spot, or do another SH/DX in which case there is no response, and eventually I get a message that the connection is closed. I've looked through the Norton settings but probably don't know what to look for. If anyone can give me some hints, I'd sure appreciate it. 73, Duane Duane Calvin, AC5AA Austin, Texas ac...@ac5aa.com __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] RTTY with MMTTY
Alt-A allows you to post a spot for the station currently listed in DX4WIN. Actually, the current method only requires that the spotter put RTTY in the text field for the spot for DX4WIN to know it's a RTTY spot and cue your rig. But if you're using a Flex, and going thru N4PY's software, I'm not sure how that works. Since I jump around on spots from mode to mode, I'd prefer it not ignore the mode. 73, Duane Duane Calvin, AC5AA Austin, Texas ac...@ac5aa.com -Original Message- From: DX4WIN [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of RadioDen45 Sent: Friday, October 23, 2015 5:22 PM To: 'Dave Perry'; 'DX4WIN Reflector' Subject: Re: [Dx4win] RTTY with MMTTY Hi Dave, I am aware of the issue with DX4WIN selecting either CW or SSB in most cases when you click on a spot... That would solve the problem for all radios Most people know mode they are working so that feature wouldn't be necessary in most cases, like a RTTY contest for example. In that situation it can only go by the CW Cutoff frequency for each band that you set in Preferences and it will either select CW or SSB. However, you will find that if RTTY is in the remarks section of the spot, DX4WIN will change your mode to RTTY. So the answer to your question is that it depends on the spot. If you add a spot using DX4WIN (Control A) and your radio is in RTTY mode, it will add RTTY to the Remarks section automatically. Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Status -- Observations
Strange comments in the last couple postings since I don't think I saw anyone asking Paul to do work on DX4WIN as a free gift. I think we all expect to pay if Paul were to work to include more recent rigs (FLEX is one I'd like to see), modes, and some of the often-requested features. If we all thought DX4WIN was a loser, we'd have moved a long time ago, regardless of the pain. In many ways it still does more for me than some other options, but now I have to work around some of its shortcomings more than ever before. I'd happily pay for an update that solved those, and I think most others would too, tho I can only speak for me. 73, Duane Duane Calvin, AC5AA Austin, Texas ac...@ac5aa.com -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of billriches Sent: Wednesday, October 7, 2015 6:39 AM To: '(K7ZO) Scott Tuthill'; 'dx4win@mailman.qth.net' Subject: Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Status -- Observations Hi Scott, I have been user of DX4WIN since 2009. Before that 8.02 was released in September 2009, 8.03 in December 2009, and 8.04 in May 2010. Second -- to echo other similar comments I am a very long time user of DX4WIN, since the late '90s. The fact is DX4WIN still works and does what I need it to do and does it efficiently and reliably. But, my expectations are simple: keep track of logs and QSL cards, help me track DXCC, and be my day-to-day real time spot processing, logging, and rig control system. The log management use is not to be underestimated: between my K7ZO log, my YN5Z log, and NK7U's logs, the later for whom I have been the manager for 20+ years, I have about 400,000 QSOs to keep track of and I respond to 1,500 QSL requests a year. Certainly there are more things I use a computer for in the hobby, but I use other software for them. I did look at Log4OM a year or so ago as a modern version of a logging program and software suite. It certainly does a lot more than DX4WIN but converting my logs over was going to require a huge amount of manual work if I wanted to retain detail beyond basic QSO data. Yes, some of the Log4OM features could be added to DX4WIN. But, this leads to the next point. Third -- if we really want Paul to add features to DX4WIN we need to make it worth his while. Someone's comment mention how using DX4WIN has saved them from years of upgrade bills. However, this also means that Paul does not have a financial incentive to spend time on DX4WIN. In other words, we are getting what we pay for -- nothing. (Other than AD1C's amazing work which earned him deserved recognition at Dayton.) So we should not complain. And there are some among us who regularly spend way more on various pieces of station hardware who would vocally object to a annual software maintenance fee. The N1MM+ development team, who are motivated by something other than money, have lowered our sense of the value and worth of software. That is fine for them, but it is not fair to expect all other developers to follow the same path. I have no idea how many DX4WIN users there are, nor how much they are willing to pay for a new release of DX4WIN addressing the top requests. I would encourage those that want improvements to DX4WIN to rally the user base and present a financial case to Paul for the work. Other than that, perhaps there is a way to open source the code and let others add to it. And, if Paul rationally does not want to spend time on the software going the open source route might be a great solution for him and for us. Just my two cents worth. Agreed. However, understand that if you plan to move all your QSL info, credits, etc., to a new logger, be prepared to do a lot it manually (whatever you can't recover from LOTW award credits). That, and not finding another logger that can present all the information I need in a very small screen space are what has held me back from moving. Re: [Dx4win] QSL Printing error
OK found the problem - I was using the Custom1 setting, which apparently is the default. I had a custom print setup in my earlier installation, and thought this one was the same. Instead, when I switched to the Avery label setting, all worked fine. I will tweak it a bit, but it is working well now. 73, Duane Duane Calvin, AC5AA Austin, Texas www.ac5aa.com -Original Message- From: DX4WIN [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Duane Calvin Sent: Monday, February 16, 2015 2:25 PM To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] QSL Printing error I'm trying to get DX4WIN set back up again after a couple of years away, and a couple of updates in that time. It sounds like the log are you opening contains other QSOs besides those made in 2015. Using F8 to start your log at 01/01/2015 won't change how the DX spots are processed. [Dx4win] Current manual?
Is there a current user's manual for DX4WIN Ver. 8.0x? I'm finding lots of things new to me that have changed since the last level that I spent a lot of time working with that I'd like to browse the manual about. For instance, just worked a new band/mode/country, and the country window shows the entry as L whereas I'm used to it saying W for worked until it progresses to the next (C = Confirmed) level. What is L? Logged? Why not Worked? And there are other items I'm scratching my head over trying to figure out. The User's Manual that came with my latest level is a 7.x manual, so is missing a number of these. [Dx4win] Notfound reports after LOTW QSL import
I know I've seen this discussed, probably by Jim before, but I can't recall the details. After several years of being off the air, I'm getting back on and trying to catch the log back up with LOTW. I pulled a LOTW report of confirmations down from the ARRL database, and included the last year of my operating through today. When I imported it for LOTW QSL flag updates, I received a notfound report with over 350 entries. I've checked a few of them randomly, and the QSL listed there is in my log, including my detailed information, so I know this data is present. What is not found, and where? My guess was that the QSO information I was downloading didn't find a match in my log, yet they seem to match. Some in the report have an X in the first column - but these also seem to match OK with my log. What's wrong with my log, and how do I correct it? (I've checked the online help but have not found it detailed there.) Re: [Dx4win] Suspending voice announcements temporarily for a specific spot?
Another approach is to set your notifications so that you don't receive spots originating from regions where you don't have propagation at the same time. While that might be useful in understanding how prop is working in general, it often results in lots of false alarms if you're waiting for that special one to pop up. Then again, with the skimmers and worldwide clusters as they're currently configured, you might be better off just tuning and listening yourself! Re: [Dx4win] Migrating to Win 7 from XP
You can install it from any directory you like on Win 7 (I elected to put it in a secondary hard drive since having it in the C:\Programs directory cause it to not be moved by MS Transfer Wizard and I want to explicitly back it up now.) At any rate, all you need to do is to explicitly open the log file from DX4WIN (File-Open), and once you do that it will know where the log file is. I've kept mine in the \Save subdirectory by default so that I know all the ones I need to hang on to are in one spot. But the point is that wherever you choose to save the log file, you can point DX4WIN to it and it will remember that location next time. (Put all your logs in the same subdirectory and you won't have to root around for them when you need to switch logs.) Hope that helps. (Oops, just noticed I duplicated what Jim had already said much more eloquently - but maybe repetition helps?!) If I put it under c:\ upon execution of dx4win it would open a window saying it could not find the log and dx4win ended up minimized in the task bar. From that point I could not open it. So whats the downside of having it installed in program files on win 7 and also is there any downside in installing by copying the directory across and not using the install process which puts entries in the registry. Well the directory location is different...on xp it was under program files and win 7 its under c:\ so it can not locate the log file. Easy, just file | Open and navigate to where the log file is NOW. Then when you exit and restart, all will be good. Or you can write your preferences to an INI file using the old version, copy the directorie(s), delete DX4WIN.CFG, then merge that INI file into your new empty configuration. I am not sure where the path info is kept so it errors trying to find the log and won't even start up. I think I will try just copying the directory over from Xp to Win 7 and try that but if you do that instead of regular install aren't you bypassing the Win 7 registry process and will that cause other issues? -- Jim Reisert AD1C, jjreis...@alum.mit.edu, http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] Ham Call CD's
I've used both Buckmaster and RAC, and I prefer the RAC. Seems to work better in a number of ways. However, through their online auctions, one can usually get the Buckmaster for less money. It's up to you which you prefer! 73, Duane Duane Calvin, AC5AA Austin, Texas www.ac5aa.com -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of n4dsp Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2012 4:21 PM To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] Ham Call CD's What cd is the most popular for call look-up with DX4WIN? john __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
