[Dx4win] Help importing old version log to 9.09 - RESOLVED
Thanks everyone for your offline help getting my log converted 100%. I had started with 9.03 which had some bugs since fixed in 9.09 and some additional offline editing help from Lee N7NU to get my VUCC fields to move over correctly. And thanks to Bruce WD4LBR for showing me that some bulk editing features are available in the QSO, Multiple QSO Operations menu. And Paul for listening and getting me my new license. I think I am good now, really appreciate all the help! Re: [Dx4win] Help importing old version log to 9.09
- > I'm guessing there is some kind of parsing error with CW because it is only two characters (and a space), where the other modes in the log all use three characters (FSK and PHO). Where can you see the space in mode CW? As far as I know you will need a special program to open a DX4WIN database file. In DX4WIN you can import old DX4WIN versions from version 1.09 and earlier and up to version 9. The tool is in file -> import and then choose the DX4WIN version "1.10 and later". Have you tried that? Is it only the mode CW that is the problem. E.g. is the call, QSO date and time, RST etc. correct for the CW QSOs? -> an error in the notes field saying {Mode=CW } for every CW QSO in the log. A workaround to fix that could be Export the CW QSOs from the old DX4WIN and safe them in a separate DX4WIN database. You could name the file CW112 Now import the CW QSOs in version 9 in a separate DX4WIN file I guess that the file in version 9 has different mode than CW (with or without space) In the version 9 CW file you can choose QSO -> Multi QSOs operation -> change mode and change the mode to CW. Then you safe the DX4WIN 9 CW file and merge it to the other DX4WIN version 9 log. Another workaround is that you in with F8 search for "CW" without " in the notes field. Then you change the mode to CW for these QSOs the same way as described above. -> Been playing with 9.09 in the demo mode. I am not sure how much you can do without a license. If you have decided to upgrade to version 9, you have to buy the license. 73 Joe, OZ0J -Oprindelig meddelelse- Fra: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net På vegne af Brian McGinness Sendt: 22. september 2023 23:22 Til: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Emne: [Dx4win] Help importing old version log to 9.09 Ok your going to laugh me out of the house here, but I am using dx4win version 1.12 (under windows 10 x86 no less) and finally want to upgrade to the latest version. I'm probably the only one, LOL. Had to stay with 32-bit windows 10 so it would run the 16-bit very old version. Been playing with 9.09 in the demo mode. I'm finding a bug in the import process concerning the CW mode. The export from 1.12 looks fine and everything seems to import fine to 9.09 except CW QSOs. They come in as either SSB or FT8 QSOs, and there is an error in the notes field saying {Mode=CW } for every CW QSO in the log. I don't want to use adif because I want to try to keep the dx4win specific dxcc and vucc tallys, which are importing correctly. I'm guessing there is some kind of parsing error with CW because it is only two characters (and a space), where the other modes in the log all use three characters (FSK and PHO). I even tried adjusting the text file from _CW to CW_ and it didn't change anything. I can filter the new log by the error in the notes and just get the QSOs that need fixing. Is there any way to bulk update a field for all QSOs in a filter view? If not, am I doing something wrong or is there a bug importing logs from very old versions? The filter list says it will, but it won't. It can't correctly interpret a CW qso even though the file plainly shows CW as the mode. I even tried making my own filter using a text export/import with exactly the same results. Maybe I could export the bad QSOs with a filter view, fix them outside of dx4win, then import them back in overwriting the old QSO (hopefully) but I can't verify this will work since the demo version won't export (understandably). I don't want to purchase till I verify I can successfully move my log over. Or I can manually fix 2600 QSOs but will take up a lot of time. Any ideas? Re: [Dx4win] Help with error message
I guess I'd ask the typical first question: Have you tried rebooting your computer? If so and that hasn't worked, you may have to download and re-install the application. Make sure you back up your DX4Wxxx directory before installing to be safe. The info on AD1C's website about "Moving DX4WIN to Another Computer" may be useful: https://ad1c.us/dx4win/appnotes/#moving_dx4win -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net On Behalf Of gfi...@maine.rr.com Sent: Thursday, August 3, 2023 9:06 AM To: 'dx4win@mailman.qth.net' ; 'gfi...@maine.rr.com' Subject: [Dx4win] Help with error message I've been using V 9.09 successfully for quite some time but now I get an error message in trying to start the program. Re: [Dx4win] Help
I got the country file back into the program and it works fine now. I made a special note in my DX4WIN loose leaf spiral notebook and will not have to figure this problem out again, I HOPE Thanks to all who responded. I should have remember this issue from another experience when this happened years ago. Trouble is as I keep getting older I forget more. You young'ins will remember that one day. Again, thanks for all the help. It is working just fine now. de John Paul // AB4PP On Mon, Dec 19, 2022 at 7:42 PM Alan Zack wrote: > This has happened to me a couple of times. Re: [Dx4win] Help in searching
I think — what no one knows here — is how to calculate a number of unique QSOs ( different calls) rather than different QSOs. You may be recommended a contest program, justifying the fact that this is a completely unnecessary option for DX-ing. However, everyone understands that this is completely wrong, but just an excuse. This is a very needed feature. And using export to Contest SW or EXcell tables is an extra headache for the user of a linenses and not free logging SW. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but so far I don’t know how many different Russian or US stations sit in my log hihi ! 73’s ! Re: [Dx4win] Help in searching
There are multiple ways to search. Here is another good way - if you press F9 to clear the QSO window, then enter a prefix, such as SM. If you have the country window open, you can click in any of the boxes and all the QSOs associated with that box will appear in the logbook window. For example, if I click on “20” it will show me all my SM 20m QSOs. if you want to see all SM QSOs, double-click in the empty window above “PHO” and left of the lowest band displayed. 73 John K9EL 73, John K9EL On Jan 9, 2022, at 9:31 AM, Luc wrote: Even in the search, you can include more than one criteria, for example mark in Pref. Re: [Dx4win] HELP HELPHELP
Hi Steve, Probably your config.dat is corrupted, I would suggest that you delete or at least rename this file in your dx4win/save directory The message about the lpt ports means that you didn't install this driver, the name is what it is but the driver is also needed for serial Communications (cat etc) this driver can be found in your dx4win/drivers directory. Install this and reboot PC. After that start DX4WIN, It will start like a brand new installed dx4win version. All your settings will be lost but you can import your previous settings if you wrote the configuration under file|preferences|file Guy ON4AOI - OT7K -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net On Behalf Of adell Sent: Tuesday, February 23, 2021 1:03 AM To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] HELP HELPHELP Program working fine through this morning. Alain your question answered yesterday! I believe your lost window is [W-CW]. So reset the position to [W-CW] not to [W-CTY] I copy John's email Close DX4Win Go into your save directory. Right click on config.txt and select edit. Scroll down to [W-CTY] Change to LEFT=0 and TOP=0 Save file. Re-open DX4Win and the country window will be in the upper left hand corner of your screen. Move it to the proper spot. [Dx4win] help!
I am having RTTY problems all of a sudden here. Using DX4WIN 9.0.9.1259 version along with MMTTY 1.68. The stand alone MMTTY program is set up for FSK in the set up menu on COM port 7 . This works great in Writelog and used to in DX4WIN. Now when I hit one of the message keys in MMTTY it just sends a steady carrier checking the setup it shows no FSK available and only SOUND checked so I think this is where my problem is! I see no way in DX4WIN to change this behavior or in MMTTY. I am using a MicroHam 2 with router software and all are set to COM port 7 and up until a few days ago this all worked great Something has changed but I don't know how to fix it. Bug in DX4WIN maybe? Any help/advice would be appreciated! [Dx4win] Help with U.S. diploma County
Hi. It may be easier to do, but I don't see the way and maybe someone can help me. In his day I applied for the diploma of the American Counties, sending in the application 668 Counties (They appear in the DX4WIN in County Summary Checked 668) to qualify for the basic diploma of 500 counties. Now I have 333 new ones that appear in County Summary Submit 333. In total there are 1001 counties. My question is, how can I list those 1001 confirmed counties 668 + 333, to request the endorsement of the 1000 confirmed counties? Well, I must send a new listing with the 1000 counties, not just the new ones. Greetings to all. Re: [Dx4win] Help With Importing WSJT .adi
I run WSJT-X on two different computers within my station. Both PCs are networked. To make it easy to find the log files, I have mapped network drives to each wsjt-x folder on the separate computers. When I go to import either one of the files from within DX4WIN, I go to File, Import, ADIF, and then select This PC. Under Network locations, both WSJT-X folders (on two different PCs) are displayed. Clicking on one or the other displays the wsjt-x_log.adi file that I need for importing into DX4WIN. This approach makes it very easy to find the right file on either computer. It would also work with only one computer. Just map a drive to the file location that Jim described below. I loaded DX4WIN 9.0.3 on my Dell desktop and all went well and I entered about 20 QSL's to be sure it all worked correctly and when it did show the 20 QSL's in the log I assumed all was well so I proceeded to load the same program into my NEW Dell laptop that had never had a logging program on it and after I had loaded the same 20 QSL'S I then I checked the logbook and found over 5000 contacts listed and a spot check showed that at least the ones I checked were mine. How did this list get in there and where did it come from. I am sure Jim does not keep a record of our QSO'S and I am wondering if anybody has ever had this happen. I am hesitant to ask the group for fear they may have me committed since it sounds so crazy but it happened. Any answers, guesses, or thoughts in general would surely be helpful. Re: [Dx4win] HELP dx4win on new win10 computer
Thought I would post my progress. Thanks to Bob and Rick I did work out the problems in DX4win. I tried each alone and learned a bit about the action of the serial ports for one. A little trickier when you don't have a native serial port. I found a nice FTDI converter that has 4 ports which after some experimenting worked well. The other problem was that Windows 10 wants to use Classic Window's theme in which case entries into various preference boxes were not visible giving the impression that nothing was happening. Use of any other theme corrected that problem. All OK now. BTW, I did try another program and was impressed but needs a few more days of trial.Thank you again for the help guys.73,Howard..K2HK > Date: Tue, 3 Nov 2015 06:48:38 -0500 > From: k...@arrl.net > To: ho...@hotmail.com > Subject: Re: [Dx4win] HELP dx4win on new win10 computer > CC: dx4win@mailman.qth.net > > Howard, > Start with trying to solve one problem at a time. Re: [Dx4win] HELP dx4win on new win10 computer
Howard, Start with trying to solve one problem at a time. Your Win10 system can't connect to the Internet and can't connect to your rig. Trying to solve these together makes it harder to diagnose the causes as they're not related. Don't plug in the serial port device. Can DX4WIN now connect to the Internet? If not, try to solve that - perhaps your antivirus or firewall is preventing it. Then, plug in the serial port device. Is DX4WIN still able to connect to the Internet? If no, what error are you seeing? If so, then you've solved the first problem. Assuming that Internet connectivity is now working, what error do you see when you configure DX4WIN to use your FTDI serial port? Without knowing what is not working and what indication you have that it's not working, there's not much to do here but guess. I second Robert's suggestion to use something other than DX4WIN to test the serial port. Device Manager doesn't tell you that the device is working, it only tells you that it's recognized. Counterfeit FTDI devices are widely available and often don't work very well, so you may just have a bad device. (For some of them, the FTDI device driver recognizes that it's a counterfeit and refuses to work.) 73, -Rick On Mon, Nov 2, 2015 at 3:57 PM, Howard K2HK wrote: > Usually can work it out myself but this has me stymied. Re: [Dx4win] Help wanted in moving QSO`s logged in wrong DX4Win log
Glyn, I am sure someone will respond with detailed instructions but, in brief, filter by date to get only the Q's you need to export. Then export them and import them into the correct log. However, to me, the bigger question is, why do you keep separate logs for each year. Obviously that is your choice but curiosity is killing me. I would think that it would make looking up previous Q's, QSLing, etc. into a huge PITA because you would have to keep opening and closing the annual logs. Am I overlooking something? Just curious, Mike / W8DN On 8/20/2015 4:46 PM, Glyn wrote: Hello Dx4win`ers, Greetings from GW I would like to ask for help as I am getting into a bit of a mess hi. Hi Kostas What is the paper of your QSL cards? E.g. 300 gram/m2, 250 gram/m2? Next, File | Import/Export, then in the Import/export window that comes up, File | Export ADIF should be at the top of the list, and selected. When you click on Save, DX4WIN will ask if you want to use the existing filter. Answer YES. All of #2 is explained in the help file (filtering, and import/export). [Dx4win] HELP: Import-export broken version 7.07
Hi to all. I am a very longtime dx4win user going back to version 4 many moons ago. In all this time never had any problems until a couple days ago. A computer crash meant I had to reinstall my version 7.07 software from a backed up directory. All seemed to go well until I attempted to import an adif file when I realised there were none of the usual import options. Literally none!! I have tried just about everything including copying the contents of an older 7.01 "import" directory on the assumption that those files might have been corrupted. Also tried copying contents from another 7.07 backup and also from a version 8 demo. Nothing has allowed me to import or export adif files. Everything else works fine controlling 2 rigs with cw, rtty using mmtty with a microham mk2r+. Problem is I use other software for contesting and use dx4win as my masterlog with a need to export adif for QSL manager, clublog etc. Any ideas? Or is this where I upgrade to version 8? [Dx4win] Help! (Report Generator / Report Editor)
I am a long time user of dx4win. I remember doing this successfully many years ago but for some reason, am unable to get to the proper page to change log book format. (Report Generator) User Guide (I have version 8.04) discusses the “Report Generator” in the following section: [Windows & Menus –>Log Book Window –> Report Editor –>LogBook report Editor]. The User Guide at this point shows a picture of the “Report Generator”. This is exactly where I want to get in my program (so I can pick and choose which elements I want to include in my log book window, and in what order) However – when I try to get there, I can’t. The note in user guide says “The report that is displayed by default in the Log Book Window can be specified in FILE / PREFERENCES / REPORTS & LABELS. When I go through that process I end up with a window called “Setup Parameters” but no matter what I do on that page I can not get to the Report Generator WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? I use a program called SyncBackSE to synchronize that SAVE directory to a separate location on my local network. The computer in the home office upstairs accesses the log from that synchronized network location. Otherwise, it gets all of its other files from its local SAVE directory. Other than having to be careful to re-open the log on the "other" computer when I make changes on one of them, I don't sync any other data files. I use the DX4WIN Data Updater to keep the data files on both computers in sync. I use the "Secondary backup directory" on each computer so that if I accidentally don't re-open the log after a change on the other computer, I'll still have a copy of the modified log (the one I "overwrote") to merge back in if necessary. So far this system has worked out OK, though I wish DX4WIN worked more like the contest logging programs where the QSOs are synchronized across the network. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, , http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] Help wanted to import all my logs into new computer
I have DX4WIN on two separate PC's. When I want to update my log on the second PC I just copy my DXL file and paste it into the seconds PC DX4WIN SAVE folder. But I have always wondered. When I do a SAVE besides the DXL file the CTY and CFG files also show the date/time of my most recent SAVE. I wonder if I should also cut and paste the updated CTY file along with the DXL file. I don't want to move the CFG file because the second PC uses a larger screen and so my fonts are a little larger. [Dx4win] Help wanted to import all my logs into new computer
Hello fellow DX4Win`ers Greetings from Wales GW, I have just purchased a new desktop PC running Windows 7 Pro. What I would like to do is import all my log files from the old PC and there are a lot from various Holiday QTH locations. GM0ANA, GD0ANA, GD0ANA, GI0ANA, EI/GW0ANA etc. I have a copy of the original Save file on a Pen Memory Stick. What is the best way to move them into the new save file and still keep all the individual logs so I can still check incoming late QSL`s against these logs. Should I just cut and paste the old file " Save on old PC" and just paste into the new PC there by replacing the existing Save file? Or is this going to create trouble. Your advice and help much appreciated. Re: [Dx4win] Help with colors
When I moved DX4WIN from Win 7 to Win 8.1, I reinstalled DX4WIN, put in the license file and then run the Dx4WIN Updater made by AD1C. I have all my log files in Dropbox and I can access them from different computers. DX4WIN looks normal after that operation. Do you have some screen dump that you can link to? Re: [Dx4win] HELP Creating Copy of DX4WIN on Second Computer
You could have a problem with the prefs file, depending on your OS. When I ran XP, if I didn't have my USB/COM adapter connected, the program would hang/crash when I opened it. With Win7, it just informs me of the error and I can still open DW4WIN. Hi Andy, The (HOLDING) feature is handy if you want to scroll back up the DX SPOTS to review them and not be bumped to the bottom when a new spot comes in. Yes the INSERT key toggles it on/off. HOLDING is also initiated if you sort the DX Spots window by frequency and is not toggled off when you go to another sort method so you must toggle it of manually. 73 John ZL1BYZ. -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of andyphewitt Sent: Friday, 21 June 2013 23:22 To: andyphew...@btopenworld.com; 'DX4WIN Reflector' Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Help with a small problem please Re my email below.
