In the offing, we ended up not providing any capital
to the guy who wants you to shut up. So, if by
not offering you a bunch of capital you didn't need
I caused any offense, please accept my apology. smile

I don't think you could offer any capital anyway.

 The problem will more likely
go away if he's ignored. Meanwhile our team is
 working on a slander suit.

Oh, you're working on a suit. What if I sue you for accusing me of being a
scammer and a thief without any proof?

The only thing I said is that I think your company is not serious. MUCH
worse
things have been said against market-makers and DGC issuers without them
having to spend a penny in lawyers. Your customers are adults able to
judge if they should ignore my posts or not. Winning a suit doesn't
guarantee you'll save your reputation because trials are mostly won by the
one who has more money for lawyers.

I have enough troubles already. Just leave me alone you paranoid!

Alexis.

[e-gold-list] Re: Oh, yeah, that helps

2003-02-21 Thread Alexis Golzman
Jim, for what it's worth, I am amazed how far you went to actually offer
your help to that guy. I mean, in all honesty, I don't know the background
 of the story,

Then why don't you just shut up?

After a number of experiences similar to the one you are just having we
decided to go for a franchise system. In other, more famous words: Show
me the money. Pople who are out of pocket tend to be more reliable and
people who don't have cent to their name might be pretty useless as
 affiliates or reps, anyway.

Yeah, just trust the wealthy. Poor people are all scammers and thieves.
Where did I hear that before?

You guys are just lucky. Someday you'll grow up and learn that you're not
better people for having more money.

Sure, we scale our franchise fees to the market and country applicants are
bidding for and it can be as low as a few hundred dollars.

If I had a few hundred dollars to spend as you say, I wouldn't become
the affiliate of anyone. I would form my own company. At least a small
one.

 But the aim is
the principle of things. You put in the money and the hours to get it all
running, why on earth would you give it away for free, even send
 affiliates working capital.

Sorry Sir, but he didn't put it all running. I made the webpages of
ar.cambist.net . I just needed the capital to start working and it was
denied.

It was clear from the beginning that I didn't have enough funds for
publicity and other costs. And Jim was agree to send me those funds. But
things have changed. I'm sure his company is more little than what it
seems and he hasn't got enough funds to have affiliates around the World
without them being able to invest the initial capital. Sorry, I simply
can't afford it.

I honestly hope that the post of your disgruntled almost-affiliate doesn't
cause you any lasting damage. You certainly deserve better.

Correction: I'm not an almost affiliate. I unfortunately signed an
agreement to become one. And no, people like Jim (If he's really a rich
company owner)
don't use to become damaged.

Alexis Golzman.

[e-gold-list] Re: Oh, yeah, that helps

2003-02-20 Thread Alexis Golzman
I thought my previous one was the last public message I would send to this
list about Cambist, but unfortunately I feel I have to reply the message
Jim sent.

  http://ar.cambist.net was always in construction

So far. It has had existence for a few weeks, and
some things take time. Some things take longer than
 others.

And some take forever. In the meantime, I have to give excuses to
customers until you decide to send me enough capital to start making
business here.

and I still can't accept orders.

I don't think that statement is true. If you were
willing to accept orders from customers the way our
 other affiliates have been doing

Ok, how are you other affiliates doing? They're all wealthy enough for
publicity, banking costs, gold for sellers, money for buyers, etc?

 we'd already be
handling them. And so would you. You can't handle
orders for our customers on your own, with our money
and our gold, and that's just as the written agreement
we both signed envisions the process.

The agreement says that I would act as a fiduciary for your funds until I
could send them to you. It means you trusted me at the time you wrote it.

A few weeks ago, I told Jim Davidson to send me gold
for the buyers and money for the sellers, besides of
advertising funds, since gold currencies are almost
unknown here in Argentina. All this to start processing
orders myself to improve customer service. He agreed.

I don't believe that I agreed. If you had that
impression, it was mistaken. That is not how we
handle orders with our other affiliates, and your
request for twenty thousand dollars was entirely
beyond our expectations. If I agreed to anything
it was to consider your request.

TWENTY THOUSAND? Sorry, but I NEVER asked for that sum. Your company works
with e-gold, e-bullion, GoldMoney, Crowne Gold and 1MDC. If you put $1000
in each of those accounts plus my bank account is SIX THOUSAND. Besides, I
didn't even talk about an amount in my messages.

Maybe you summed all the publicity costs I sent you. That can vary
according to the newspaper. In fact, you didn't even tell me the newspaper
you wanted to advertise on. You told me Ambito Financiero and I asked you
if you were sure, because El Cronista Comercial is read by the richest
people of Argentina. Again NO RESPONSE.

Now, suddenly, you wish to interrupt the careful
process of deliberation with a public rant.

What process? Admit it, you already had forgotten about me. You noticed
Argentina wasn't a simple place to make business in and you just got
bored.

But then he sent me a message telling that he either
  would send gold OR money.

Yes, in fact, I was agreeable to pursue a different
path than we've done with our other affiliates. I'm
still uncertain why that offer was offensive to you.

It wasn't offensive. It was insufficient, because I needed both money and
gold for buyers and sellers. That's all.

I told him that I'll need both, since I'll have
sellers AND buyers. I got no response from him.

Again, that's not accurate. I have responded to
your messages in as timely a fashion as possible.

You sent me no response about that. I had to send a message to this list
to get a reply from you.

Seems he doesn't trust me anymore,

Until you sent this message to the e-gold list, I
had no reason not to trust you.

However you weren't willing to send me the initial capital to start making
business here. Not even the publicity funds.

Advertising at the web page of Ambito Financiero for example can cost more
than US$ 5000 per month. Where would I get those funds? Sorry Jim, I can't
afford that, you should have known I was poor. Otherwise I would form my
own company and become an independent market-maker.

 You had earned
quite a bit of trust by being candid and patient
while we prepared to go forward with the terms of
our agreement. This message you've sent sets
back the trust meter quite a long way.

The trust meter was set back before the message and I still don't know the
reason. Just your paranoia. You believe everyone wants to steal you, even
your affiliates. Well, it's not so easy to steal here.

Like I said in a private message I sent to you:

You have a notarized contract with my ID number (DNI) on it. A simple
phone call to a police station near my home and they can find me.
Especially if I would steal a lot of money from a foreign company owner.
Argentina has not fallen to the Wild West level yet, it's not that easy to
steal here.

You paid me before and I translated the pages. Why would I steal from you
now? I was as desperate and unemployed at the time of translating those
pages as I'm now.

since he's not willing to give me what I
  need to do business here.

I think again you are ascribing an unwillingness
to me which didn't exist prior to your message
 appearing on this list.

If that unwillingness didn't exist, why where you so hesitant to trust me
with some funds and gold?

 I do have

[e-gold-list] Possession of gold in South Africa

2003-01-19 Thread Alexis Golzman
I have written at http://ar.cambist.net/faq.php that GBCs could be the
only alternative in countries like South Africa, where the possession of
gold is illegal (2nd. question, 5th item).

But I have my doubts, so I would like someone in that country to confirm
that I've written the truth, before the site stops being In construction
and is widely advertised.

I'd appreciate any information from the South African members of this
list. If possible, any links to the text of government decrees in official
websites or other reliable source.

Besides: If it's illegal, is it only the possession of gold or also of
other precious metals? What about using it for jewelry?

Thanks in advance for your information...

Regards,
Alexis.

PS: Thanks to those who sent me information about the end of the gold
standard in the US. I finally found out I needed the text of Executive
Order 11615 of August 15th, 1971. The NARA employees sent me a copy by
postal mail.

[e-gold-list] Gold standard for Argentina

2003-01-13 Thread Alexis Golzman
An interesting article about returning to the gold standard:

http://www.fame.org/PDF/Why%20Gold-Backed%20Currencies%20Help%20Prevent%20Wars.pdf

I think returning to the gold standard would be easy for countries like
Argentina, which still have relatively few reserves (aprox. US$ 10
billions, source: http://www.bcra.gov.ar/reservas/eres0100.asp). Just 877
metric tons...

That would make the country independent from US economy and with a stable
currency. Just my opinion...

[e-gold-list] Proof of abandoned gold standard needed

2003-01-13 Thread Alexis Golzman
Here in Argentina many people still believe that US$ are backed by gold,

Could someone please send me some US government sources (URLs in gov.

[e-gold-list] Problem with Latvian card

2003-01-09 Thread Alexis Golzman
I have a problem with a Paritate bank VISA Electron debit card (It's not
an anonymous card). When I try to get a balance report I get a
Transaction Rejected message.

I still don't know if it's the card or Argentine ATMs. I'll ask tomorrow
to my Argentine bank manager if it's a problem of local ATMs. The reason
why I'm posting this message is I'd like to know if anyone else have had
that kind of problem with Latvian cards before.

Besides it calls to my attention that the card's numbers aren't embossed
and it has an ELECTRONIC USE ONLY legend. What does that mean? I checked
the number with a verification software and it's OK.

Do you know some site where I can verify if my card was really issued by
VISA?

So far I'm glad I didn't deposit much money in that account. If I have to
wait for a cashier's cheque every time I have to withdraw, it will be a
little heartburnish. Any recommendations of other jurisdictions where I
could open a bank account?

I'll be grateful for any information...

Thanks,
Alexis.

For now, you just can buy Rest Your Eyes (RYE) with e-gold automatically.
But that may change (Depending on the interest).

I also want to ask all DGC's to provide an Argentine pesos (ARS) to gold
exchange rate. Since they're already providing it for the Brazilian Real,
why not displaying the exchange rate for other Latin American currencies?

I think that would help grow the DGCs usage in our area.

Also, why don't DGC's implement something like what's explained in the
following page?

Just suggestions...

[e-gold-list] Re: Domain for sale and translations.

2002-05-31 Thread Alexis Golzman

 Alexis,

Interesting. How many types of Spanish are there in the world,
and which one do you translate into?

Bob,

There is actually one type of Spanish for every country where it is
spoken!

However, there are usually minor differences, just like those between
American and British English (vos instead of tu in Argentina,
platicar instead of conversar in Mexico, etc).

My mother's tongue is Argentine Spanish, but I also know about Spanish
from Spain, because Argentine kids are tought the original language at
school (Considered the correct version).

Unless the site is dedicated especially to the Argentine public, I would
translate pages to Spanish from Spain (Castilian). The best is using a
neutral Spanish, just like the original, but without the particular
words of Spanish slang. This makes your site readable by visitors of any
Spanish-speaking country.

Saludos y buena suerte...

[e-gold-list] Privacy of offshore US bank accounts

2002-04-19 Thread Alexis Golzman

I'm considering to open an account in the USA, since their banking system
has many advantages for an Internet business (Being able to print my own
US$ checks, some services are only available with a US account, etc.).

So far, I know I would have to get an ITIN (I'm a resident of Argentina)
and send a W8-BEN form to the bank.

The problem is: Is it true that all of my account information will be
periodically informed to the IRS? Even if I don't do anything illegal?

This is the confusing information I got so far:

- I would have to pay a %30 tax (GLUP!).

- If I open an account in a Delaware, Nevada or Washington bank I would
only have to pay the federal income tax (%??).

- I wouldn't have to pay any taxes unless I own a company in the US or
Argentina because of the double taxation treaty.

What are the inconvenients for an individual that doesn't yet own a
company and wants to deposit his (few) web income into a US account? Am I
obliged to to form a company?

Thanks in advance for any information...

I resist myself to shutdown the Golden Raffle, so I made some changes:

You only have to pay US$ 15 instead of US$ 100 to become a sponsor. I
think that's much more affordable.

By being a sponsor you get:

- 100 visitors to your site.
- Your text ad sent to every bettor.
- Your text and banner ads displayed at the Sponsors page.
- And your banner rotated throughout the site.

The prize has lowered to US$ 50 (Still a good prize), but the odds are
much higher: 1 in a 100 instead of 1 in 500.

[e-gold-list] GoldenDir.com shutdown

2002-02-27 Thread Alexis Golzman

Due the few interest, I shutdown the GoldenDir.com site. Seems there is no
space for another directory. And maintaining so many websites starts to be
too expensive.

Those who added a listing and want a refund, send me an e-mail with a
REFUND subject.

From now, my software will be offered from http://www.AlexisWare.com so
RestYourEyes.com and Mastercrypt.net will also be shutdown soon.

Besides, I'll possibly shutdown http://www.GoldenRaffle.com if I don't get
any sponsors soon.

My feeling is the only ones earning money in the gold economy are market
makers and bananagold.com . Besides with e-gold Ltd. not accepting to add
GoldenDir.com to their directory, I conclude that entering the gold
economy is not for us little guys.

Besides I guess people doesn't intend to spend e-gold but to store their
savings in a stable form forever, much like they do when they buy gold
coins. This isn't good for e-business.

[e-gold-list] Re: GoldenDir.com Mistery

2002-02-04 Thread Alexis Golzman

H content and traffic the vicious cycle!
you'd have to send out your own robot for that like
 http://www.sharelynx.net/Markets/Master.htm
But they would be free listings for a time.

I don't intend to make listings free. Come on! Don't tell me people can't
afford to spend $3.30 in a listing.

I mainly auction off Bullions and coins as GoldenDir has it.
But I rather World coins or Global gold coins, Maple Leafs, hobbies, Numismatic
premiums are a turn off to egolders.

I guess the Bullions and coins category it's more than enough, since
companies who sell gold coins generally sell more than one type of coin.
In fact, they also use to sell bullions as well.

But there is no cat for gold stocks, they are a hot commodity, and some of the best
return investment vehicles currently.

No, but there's a Financial / Investing category.

I can market, optimize, host, and design your site to get the sale,
But there is not an Internet Consultant or advertising/marketing category.

There's a Computers / Web / Promotion cat. Did you take a thorough look
at GoldenDir?

But there is not a payment processing category.

Where would a Payment Processing category fit in a directory of sites
accepting GBCs? Does that company accept some GBC?

If that is the case, I can add that category in a minute.

I offer FREE 5 day courses on Affiliates, Info Products, Online Pricing, Netwriting,
and Net Auctions.
But there is not an education category.

What have those free courses got to do with the gold economy? Do you

you would notice that is completely harmless to your system. You can't

[e-gold-list] Re: Please help

2002-01-31 Thread Alexis Golzman

Hi Jim,

Tell your local newspaper about e-gold, and start selling it (at
a mark-up!) to others! That's what I'd do if I were you. Thanks.
JMR

Unfortunately, most of people's money is in the corralito, so it would
be foolish to try to sell anything to someone here. In fact, 25000
businesses have already closed their doors only in this month.

Besides, I'm a little scared of telling people about e-gold. DGC's give
people the freedom of not storing their money in the banking system. I
don't know what the government would do if it finds out about Argentines
buying e-gold. The gov. bastards can do anything, even forbidding people
of buying gold or US$. They were already thinking in forbidding to sell
dollars.

Remember: Argentine government intends to destroy the country and starve
us all. They are not what the average person would expect from a
government, they are the enemy. And it's not only my point of view, ask
anyone here and it will tell you the same.

We don't know what's next. All people's waiting for the minister of
economy to announce the new measures on Saturday. Of course New measures
means The next blow against people.

Also militars are furious, because they aren't getting their wages, so
some people talk a goup may happen.

Now be good and buy a listing OK? It will promote your site a little
*grin*

Market makers can add a listing to the exchangers search engine by going

I would also like e-gold to add GoldenDir to their directory. I hope it's

[e-gold-list] GoldenDir.com security

2002-01-10 Thread Alexis Golzman

Recently, one of the visitors of my GoldenDir.com site refused to add an
exchangers listing because he feared he would have to enter his passphrase
on the site of an unknown person.

I want to clarify that I use the e-gold Shopping Cart Interface (SCI).
This means that when you order something, you will be redirected to the
e-gold site to pay for it. You'll have to enter your passphrase at the
e-gold site, NOT AT MINE. I WON'T KNOW OF YOUR PASSPHRASE.

And credit card payments are done through the ClickBank site; you wouldn't
have to enter your CC number on my site and I wouldn't know of your CC
number.

Today I added an explanation to the F.A.Q. page about this.

If you think something in my site looks suspicious, just send me an e-mail
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and tell me about it.

Kind Regards,

[e-gold-list] About the situation in Argentina

2001-12-06 Thread Alexis Golzman

Answering to the last issue of the Bricks of Gold e-zine:

Argentine Inflation

There's still no inflation! 1 Peso = 1 US$ yet.

They have devalued their currency and are waiting for large loans from
the IMF.

ALL loans coming from abroad (Including the $1.26 billions) have been
denied last night. According to the Clarin newspaper (www.clarin.com) it's
a total of US$ 5 billion that we won't get thanks to our minister Cavallo.

On the other hand, I think this is good, because Argentina would have been
even more indebted.

They have also passed rulings that limit the amount of money which can be
withdrawn from bank accounts and the amount which may be taken out of the
country.

That's true. People is still used to pay for everything in cash and that
has been a sudden violent change, because we will have to pay for most
things with a debit card, which most people doesn't have yet. The
government says they want to control tax evasion and money laundring.

Anyway, half of the working class earns 400 pesos (= US$ 400) or less; so
withwrawing 250 per week is more than enough (If you can survive with
that!). But of course many people who need to make large transactions in
cash are largely affected.

Cavallo established those withdrawal restrictions because all people was
suddenly taking all money out of the banks because they feared
devaluation.

But it really looks like the most probable thing to happen will be
dolarization, NOT devaluation. Just read the news (If you understand
Spanish :)

Alexis.

Did you know that e-metal is a wonderful holiday gift? Avoid the hassle this year!

[e-gold-list] Re: its easy

2001-10-02 Thread Alexis Golzman

(This was about the convenience of using GBCs):

amazon.com does ALMOST ALL the online shopping, and you can use
amazon.com via bananagold.com, as do HUNDREDS of egold users.

Indeed, bananagold even has competition in metalproxy.com, which I
 believe does barnesnoble.com.

EVERYTHING is and has been purchased using e-gold (at bananagold -- amazon) ...

There are MANY Amazon items that can't be shipped outside the US. The same
goes for Barns and Noble.

Besides I don't find much sense in buying e-gold just to buy stuff on one
or two (Or even 20) merchants. You should be able to buy anything anywhere
with a GBC. But it's not the case so far. Most online shops only accept
credit cards.

[e-gold-list] Re: The future for gold backed currency??

2001-10-01 Thread Alexis Golzman

 * Hard to FUND a account - customer has to GO to a MM

It's not so hard; you can even do it with a credit card at some MMs. But
it's MUCH more expensive than making a deposit in a regular bank account.
And it takes more time.

 * Not integrated in existing banking systems

You can integrate it through a Market Maker, or a Standard Reserve debit
card. But this is also more expensive than a regular debit card linked to
a bank account. And you need an intermediary to transfer your money from
e-gold to a bank.

 * No flexible shopping online and offline

If you're trying to buy something from someone that doesn't accept e-gold
(Most merchants don't) there's absolutely NO shopping. If you use an
intermediary you would have to pay:

1. The product's cost.
2. The percentage charged by the intermediary.
3. Shipping and handling.

Point 2 is what nobody likes.

 - i would like to bring up a discussion on HOW we can evolve gold backed
currencies to something the big industys can use

 *Any ideas

Yes. GBCs would be really popular:

1. If you could buy at ANY shop that accepts credit cards, online and
offline.

A nice solution would be something like what's offered at
http://www.now1card.com but with gold instead of US$. I mean: a debit card
for ATMs AND for shopping.

2. If you could draw cheques from your e-gold account. Many people use
cheques as a preferred payment method.

3. If you would go to any exchange-office in the World and buy or sell
e-gold at a REASONABLE rate.

4. If we could hear about e-gold and other GBCs on TV and other media. Ask
anyone here in Argentina about e-gold and nobody knows what it is. GBCs
need MUCH more publicity.

5. If MMs would lower the fees. For example: I don't own a bank account,
so I can't send a wire transfer. If I want to buy e-gold, I would have to
pay:

   1. For a Moneygram or Western Union money order.
   2. The Market Maker's percentage.

And sending cashier's cheques by mail is really slow. If they ever arrive.

6. What about deposits? You should be able to go to an ATM and make a
direct deposit to your e-gold account.

Just suggestions...

Alexis.

[e-gold-list] RE: NWO

2001-09-24 Thread Alexis Golzman

I found this on the http://oneworldorder.org/primedirectives.html site.
This is the site for the illuminati and New World Order proponents.

 Prime Directives

 4. The most intelligent and educated humans are superior to all others
and they must reproduce with others at all costs and must be protected
 at all cost.

Who judges who is more or less educated or intelligent?

 6. No human may hold a superior position unless he or she has obtained
 degrees in physics and biology.

This is because those whom are educated in these fields, posses a
higher understanding of reality, and thus posses an advanced/developed
 mind.

At the contrary, many scientists have gotten out of the lab so few in
their lives, that they don't really have an exact idea of how the outside
world looks like.

That kind of thought is generally published by arrogant scientists that
believe they know all of life's misteries just because they went 8 years
to College.

Scientists can't still cure Cancer, AIDS, Ebola and so many other diseases
and they already dear to deny the existence of the human soul.

It's annoying to notice how arrogant have scientists become lately. Much
like priests in the middle ages. The word of a scientist has become holy.
Even if the speaker is a crackpot.

 7. The population of planet earth must be reduced to 3 billion and
maintained at approximately that number(until such time when our
Enlightened Society is in place and all the family names of our enemies
 are wiped off the planet).

Wow! Who do you want to wipe off now? One billion Muslims perhaps?

The reduction in population is to be done through education of
the need for this. Of course there are other means, and mother nature
and diseases will help us in this regard.

Diseases for population control? Good idea. But I have a faster solution!
You can call Osama Recycle Bin Laden to blow up some more buildings with
6000+ people inside. With that method, you can even raise the price of
your e-gold!

 8. All human females should have their tubes tied as soon as they reach
puberty, to protect them from premature and unwanted pregnancies..

human females? In planet Earth we call them Women.

Unlike some uneducated fools think, women can still have babies, even
with their tubes tied, but not accidentally. Why only women? Because
semen is good for human consumption, it contains a rare form of
protein, and matter unlike anything else, which has strong healing
 powers...

And using condoms is too much trouble anyway. Let's start tying females
then.

 10. Science and scientists must be the only governing body of planet
 Earth and humanity.

This confirms that a group of (mad) scientists is the head of the
Illuminati organization and its philosophy.

This is so that intelligent people compose the ruling class, not
religionists and politicians. What we will achieve with this, is a
system of law and order, not political and religionist mind games.

So you assume here that scientists, unlike the rest of us human beings are
flawless; i.e. they aren't ambicious, they aren't greedy, etc. Anyone can
prove this is WRONG. A scientist as a politician wouldn't be better than a
lawyer.

 11. Politics and politicians must be eliminated at all costs.

This is because in a society of Objectivists, there is no room for
politicians. The society of the future will be ruled by the
enlightened, together with society, which too will be enlightened and
 highly educated.

This means: Back to monarchy. The King and his friends (The Enlightened)
dominating the rest of us poor ignorant devils. Nothing new.

 13. Genetic engineering must be one of the most supported fields.

So you can create a race of enlightened and another of subhumans,
dominated by the enlightened. No thanks.

 15. All lower life forms must be protected at all cost and scientific
research must take this into consideration.

The little detail here is who is considered as a lower life form.

 16. Humans must not be permitted to consume any type of flesh.
Killing other life forms, simply because we like the taste, is
barbaric, and is rooted in savagery.

Plants are also other life forms. What should we eat then? Synthetic food?

 20. Anyone who is against the Prime directives must be neutralized at
 all costs.

Again this reminds me Osama and his friends. You guys are dangerous!

 Interesting reading eh!

What has it got to do with e-gold anyway? I wouldn't like to be the
moderator of this list...

Alexis.

[e-gold-list] Gold and Gambling

2001-09-10 Thread Alexis Golzman

Answering the Rick van Rein comments:

...I am totally uninterested in online gambling, and I suspect that goes
 for more people...

There are also a LOT of other people who ARE interested in gambling.

And I imagine if I would be into gambling, that I'd want to see _real_
 lights flashing, not JavaScripted pixels.

Wow, what a demolishing description of my site. JavaScripted pixels!?

I think you should be more interested in winning a prize, not in flashing
lights. If you want bells, whistles and lights, better watch a TV
commercial.

BTW, the more bells and whistles you put to a site, the more it takes to
load.

Oh, and there's the matter of trust too, I suppose. What do you base your
random numbers on? How can I verify his payout scheme? Online cheating is
 s easy with gambling games.

Did you ever go to the Golden Raffle home page? As soon as you go to
http://www.GoldenRaffle.com you can read a FAQ which explains everything.
Once you read the whole thing you'll learn that is NOT possible to cheat
at my raffle.

Besides, what would you loose? Many people spend $5 in a lottery in which
they have literally millions of times less probabilities of winning. 0.5
grams is not even 5 bucks now.

Anyhow, building a site is fun anyhow, and you always learn a few new
tricks and expand your library of cut/pasteable code... so it's
hardly ever waisted effort. I take such risks all the time, and never mind doing so.
Sooner or later, an initiative pays off bigtime!!!

Maybe you don't mind because you already have a lot of money to waste in
flops until something good comes out. But that's unfortunately not my
case.

Cheers,
Alexis.

[e-gold-list] Online lotteries are NOT flops

2001-07-30 Thread Alexis Golzman

About the recent comments about the failure of online lotteries, I can
give you two examples of INCREDIBLY successful lotteries:
www.freelotto.com and www.fun-lotto.com There are of course many more.

I think only the lotteries/raffles where you have to pay for your
bet/ticket are the ones which fail. BTW, I recently read that is illegal
in the U.S. to make a paid raffle or lottery. It can be maintained by
advertising, but you can't charge for the ticket (I guess it depends on
the state; I don't live in the US, but my sites are hosted there).

When people exited GoldenRaffle.com, a pop-up window asked If you didn't
place your bet, please explain me why, and these are some of the answers
I got:

Doesn't look to promising:
I guess it's because of the amount of players and the uncertainty about
when it was going to close. I hope it wasn't because of the site's
appearance!

I don't want to gamble and loose my gold.:
Seems few people like to spend money in something that is not sure to
return any benefits.

So, I'm thinking about relaunching my Golden Raffle site, with the
following changes:

(1) 100 players/bets instead of 1000. The prize would be lower, but the
wait would also be lesser and the probability of winning would be 10 times
higher. Anyone has suggestions about the prize amount?

(2) Instead of paying for the bet, you would have to visit some sponsor
sites. Anyone has suggestions about the number of sites that bettors would
be willing to visit?

(3) The raffle would close at the end of the month. If the 100 bets goal
wasn't reached, the percentage corresponding to the prize would be donated
to charity (To any charity accepting e-gold).

The BIG problem is getting the sponsors. How do online lotteries get
advertisers when they start up? Do they pay to get sponsors? Could someone
in the gaming industry please answer this question?

And finally: If there is the 1/100 possibility of winning some prize (For
example, 40 AUG), how many of you would be willing to place a bet for
free?

I keep waiting for your suggestions, ideas, comments, etc.

Thanks in advance...

[e-gold-list] Non-resident aliens taxation

2001-07-21 Thread Alexis Golzman

I recently read offshoresurfer's comments about the Asia-Europe-Americas
Bank of Seattle (http://www.aea-bank.com/).

I was interested in opening a US bank account some months ago, but as I
live in Argentina, I'm not sure if I would be exempt of the 30% income
tax. The idea of paying taxes to a foreign government doesn't please me
very much.

At http://www.aea-bank.com/facts.html there's the phrase no local taxes
to pay for non-residents. but is that really so for someone who lives in
a country which didn't make a tax treaty with the US?

Countries who made a tax treaty with the USA are listed here:

http://www.irs.gov/ind_info/treaties.html

if I get money from a business in the US (Like ClickBank), would I have to
pay taxes? Or only if I live there?

I read something of IRS's publication 519 but I think it's pretty
confusing and I'm still not sure of what they really mean.

If someone has any information about this, please send it to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks in advance.

P.S: When I read non-resident alien I always imagine some outer space
monster :-)

[e-gold-list] OSGold = Suspicious

2001-07-16 Thread Alexis Golzman

This is a reply I wrote for an e-mail I got asking to create an OSGold
account (It's below my reply). I finally didn't send it back to the sender
because I prefered to forward it to the e-gold list.

I would appreciate some answers, especially from people with OSGold
accounts...

Hi Marie,

I did create an OSGold account. But I need more information.

I logged into my account and I double clicked on the padlock icon on my
browser's statusbar and there seem to be some problems with your VeriSign
certificate.

This is what appeared in the Certificado dialog box (My browser is in
Spanish):

Este certificado no puede comprobar todos sus objetivos planteados

(Means something like: This certificate can't prove all of its established
objectives)

Besides, browsing through the certificate details I found this:

CN = www.osgold.com
O = Home Entrepreneur Network, Inc.
L = Fayetteville
S = North Carolina
C = US

Aren't you a Panama based company?

I also made a traceroute on your site and it's hosted in... Malaysia!

I also made a whois search at:

http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois?STRING=osgold.com

And the results are a little suspicious. No addresses or phone numbers?

Maybe I should have investigated a little more before creating an account.

Besides, don't you have an Agio fee like e-gold or e-bullion? (Not that I
want it though!)

User friendly shopping cart interface with instant email
 notification of the order.

Where are your SCI's specifications? I couldn't find them anywhere on your
site.

And where are the statistics of how much gold you have on reserve? How do
I know you really have any gold?

I keep waiting for your prompt response...

Kind regards,
Alexis Golzman

[e-gold-list] New site accepting e-gold

2001-07-13 Thread Alexis Golzman

RestYourEyes.com is now accepting e-gold!

Rest Your Eyes (RYE) will help to protect you from overwork, eye strain,
and CRSI on the computer. Simply set your desired work periods and rest
intervals, then choose a screen saver and, optionally, a background sound
file. Minimize the program or place it in the system tray. At the preset
times, your computer will go into screen saver mode and you can take a
break. The screen saver presentation can be random, but your default
screen saver settings will be returned when you close the program. You can
override operation during valuable online time and schedule applications
such as backup utilities to run during your rest period.

And Rest Your Eyes has many other features that contribute to a healthy
computing experience; like customizable RYETips, which are short notes
that pop-up once in a while reminding you to do certain things like
correcting a bad posture.

Or the exclusive time server synchronization feature, which leaves your PC
clock always on time.

You can even get a graph with complete statistics of hours of work and
rest and export the data to an Excel or StarOffice spreadsheet! Perfect to
show to your physician.

Check it out...

[e-gold-list] Re: Australian Banks (rant)

2001-06-10 Thread Alexis Golzman

But don't let that deter anyone from speaking out against the outrages
occuring in Australia, the U.S. or anywhere else.

Of course not.

 To rationalize that a
great outrage here is acceptable because there are far greater outrages
elsewhere is to fall into the two-wrongs-make-a-right trap.

I didn't say outrages are acceptable. I just had the impression that some
people only thinks in their country's problems, not realizing that they're
living in a place that is MUCH better than many others.

I also have the feeling that many people exaggerate the problems in their
countries to scare off eventual immigrants i.e. Don't come here! It's
awful, just because they don't like foreigners.
